It's time to take a chance

Evie Hamilton has big plans for Starlight Point, her family's amusement park. Determined to prove she's more than a by-the-numbers accountant, Evie is all set to open a brand-new marina and renovate the century-old Lake Breeze Hotel. She's planned for every possible roadblock…except the handsome, infuriating new fire inspector.

Firefighter Scott Bennett doesn't want to be the bad guy. But when he looks at Evie's plans, all he can see are the potential disasters. He wants to help Evie build for the future, but letting go of the past feels dangerous. Almost as dangerous as trusting Evie with his heart.

Third in the Starlight Point Stories, and it was a joy to get reacquainted with the sibling trio who are doing so much to bring this resort back to its former glory. This time, we watch as Evie Hamilton lays out her plans for renovating the big hotel with improvements that are driving crazy the current firefighter and fire inspector Scott Bennett. He's convinced he has to protect even the stupid from harming themselves, all of which hints at a backstory that serves as a reason why he became a firefighter in the first place.

The big problem is the attraction these two people feel for each other, even when they are combatants during the evaluation process of Evie's big plans. When several people are hurt in the course of the summer season, each learns a bit more about the other, but Scott knows he can't sign off on something that he's fearful may kill people--especially Evie and/or his little sister, Caroline, now a rookie cop.

How all this ends brings to a satisfactory end the series, too. Which is too bad. I'd love to read more of these great characters.

I did really like the behind the scenes look at the complexities of owning and running an amusement park. There are medical emergencies, fires, fights, malfunctions. We are rarely aware of these goings-on when we visit amusement parks. There’s so much happening during a typical jam-packed amusement park day, and I found myself thinking about how it’s at all possible to operate one smoothly. I wished the romance between Scott and Evie was as inspiring as the amusement park details.

Meet Me on the Midway was a good, wholesome read. But I have to admit that it wasn’t my favorite of the series because I thought the romantic element was lacking. However, I still enjoyed many parts of it, and I’m looking forward to reading book 4 in the series.

3.5. Engaging and entertaining but still light.
