I really enjoyed this collection, particularly the title story which was a classic isolated closed circle mystery. I enjoyed the author's sensibilities, and I will definitely keep my eyes out for more from her

Vuelve la reina del 'cosy crime' con una colección de relatos con personajes del universo Fjällbacka. Como siempre, encontramos entornos acogedores y cotidianos y problemática social como el acoso escolar o la violencia de género. La autora es muy hábil y con un lenguaje muy llano y tramas sencillas satisface al lector que busca ecos de los clásicos del género.
El mejor es el primero, que da título a la antología. En Tormenta de nieve y aroma de almendras Martin, el joven policía de Fjällbacka, viaja a una isla cercana para pasar las Navidades con la familia de su novia. El adinerado patriarca del clan aparece asesinado y los invitados quedan aislados en la mansión hasta que amaine la tormenta. Y uno de ellos ha de ser el asesino...

I purchased that book having in mind that it would be something like Agatha Christie's "Mr. Poirot Christmas". I also must mention that I love all of Lackberg's books. Well, except for this one. I was really disappointed. I was really let down. Generally it was " flat", with no tension, not any particular twist. Only the general idea was good. Some people on an island, a murder and a potential killer among them
But that was it.

Una serie de relatos (alguno enmarcado en el universo Fjällbacka) que se dejan leer. El primero era un poco a lo Agatha Christie y el resto son anécdotas demasiado cortas para ser poco más que una pequeña sorpresa o un guiño.

Bueno pues en verdad son unos cuantos relatos misteriosos que se leen rápidamente y que entretienen sin más. El primer relato en el que Martin es protagonista hay un claro homenaje a las novelas de Agatha Christie y a Sherlock Holmes... esa es para mi la intención de la autora y no está mal ver su propia versión. El relato del “Café de las Viudas” ha sido mi favorito la verdad, por ese relato tiene tres estrellas este libro.
Ahora deseando que llegue primavera para la publicación del siguiente libro de la saga.

A molti questi racconti non sono piaciuti perchè tropo brevi, invece io li ho adorati per il medesimo motivo. Sono dei concentrati di suspense, di febbrile attesa, e mi sta bene così. Mi è piaciuto molto ritrovare un giovane Patrick, ma ho adorato il racconto su Martin: è uno dei personaggi della serie che preferisco! Consigliato.

Cinco relatos que entretienen y que incluso logran intrigar. No todos son igual de buenos, pero ninguno llega a ser malo. Esta obra forma parte de la saga de “Los crímenes de Fjällbacka”, pero no es necesario haberse leído esos libros para poder entender los relatos. Lo único que comparten es que los hechos ocurren en Fjällbacka y que salen algunos personajes de esa saga, pero no es necesario saber nada sobre ellos para entender su papel aquí. Cada relato presenta un caso diferente y todos tienen un final cerrado.
A continuación, comentaré brevemente mi opinión de cada uno sin dar spoilers.
”Tormenta de nieve y aroma de almendras” (120 páginas)

Es el relato más largo, pero no diría que es el mejor. Al más puro estilo “Diez negritos”, aquí vemos como una serie de personajes se ven obligados a desconfiar unos de otros tras el asesinato de uno de ellos durante una escapada familiar en una isla aislada. Martin, el protagonista, es un policía que acude a pasar el fin de semana con la familia de su novia, a la cual ni soporta demasiado. Creía que tendría que estar aguantando dramas familiares, pero todo se complica cuando el patriarca millonario muere envenenado durante la cena y él se ve obligado a ejercer de investigador.
Los personajes están bien presentados y es fácil quedarse rápidamente con quién es quién. Aunque la base de la historia no sea novedosa, la autora sabe aprovecharla y hay un buen toque de incertidumbre ante la resolución del caso. El problema es que el desenlace no impacta tanto como debería porque los acontecimientos finales se dan de manera precipitada y ni siquiera se ahonda bien en ciertas reacciones.
”Un día de perros” (16 páginas)

La historia más floja. El protagonista es un niño que sufre acoso escolar y que verá cómo la crueldad parece no tener fin. Al mismo tiempo, veremos a Patrik, policía de Fjällbacka, hacer un descubrimiento personal inesperado.
El tema del bullying podría haber dado mucho de sí, pero pierde fuerza por el modo tan surrealista con el que se suaviza la actitud del protagonista al final. Solo diré que no me creo que una mini conversación pueda aplacar tanto la furia y el dolor de alguien.
”Una muerte elegante” (16 páginas)

Buen inicio y mal final. Una mujer asesinada sin ningún motivo aparente, una hija desolada, otra hija pensando en la herencia y un desenlace que resulta algo descafeinado.
El desarrollo es correcto, no es que enganche a loco, pero genera la suficiente curiosidad como para leer con ganas. Entiendo que por la brevedad de la historia era complicado perfilar bien a los personajes, pero costaba aceptar que alguien pudiera tener cierto impulso y no sentirse culpable… no digo más para no hacer spoiler. Además, el cierre fue brusco porque no se llegó a aclarar al 100% si toda la verdad sería descubierta. Lo mejor fue la manera en la que se vio el “castigo” que sufrió un personaje… hasta se podría decir que fue gracioso.

Un relato absolutamente perfecto. En este caso, cualquier cosa que diga podría ser considerada spoiler, así que seré muy escueta: se trata la violencia de género y lo que una cafetería aparentemente inocente puede esconder. Claramente, lo que el bando “bueno” de esta historia hace también es un delito, pero no puedes evitar sentir cierto conflicto moral porque se comprende la razón de que alguien llegue a esos extremos.
Atrapa desde la primera página, se ahonda correctamente en cada aspecto de la historia y el final tiene un giro inesperado inmejorable.

Mezclando paranoia, delirios y hechos que pueden generar desconfianza, este pequeño relato acaba sorprendiendo más de lo esperado. Vemos a un matrimonio haciendo un viaje para intentar salvar lo que queda de su relación, pero reflexionar sobre un suceso del pasado hará que la protagonista empiece a cuestionarse el comportamiento de su marido.
La autora sabe jugar tanto con los personajes como con los lectores. Es complicado no pensar que todo es muy obvio, pero, al mismo tiempo, eso también te hace dudar de lo que aparentemente ocurre. El descubrimiento final me dejó con la boca abierta, dudo que alguien pueda vivir con la culpa tras algo así…
Si buscáis una lectura cortita y que, a pesar de su sencillez, deje una buena impresión, os animo a darle una oportunidad a este libro. La media de puntuación tras valorar cada relato me da un 3,4/5, pero he decidido redondear al alza porque, en términos generales, acabé bastante satisfecha y valoro muy positivamente algunos giros argumentales.

Este libro se podría haber titulado "Como hacer un libro malísimo solo para ganar dinero". Qué manía le estoy cogiendo a la Läckberg! Ya se le está viendo el plumero con tanto hacer libros como churros solo por vender y sin ningún contenido. Y este es el peor de todos. Con lo que me gustaron los primeros! Ya debería pensar en un final de la serie digno y dejarse de engañar a los lectores. Odio a los escritores que se hacen un nombre y se basan sólo en eso para hacer libros sin sentido.

Antología compuesta por cinco relatos sobre crimenes de Fjalbäcka, algunos con la presencia de Martin, Patrik o Erica. Son tan cortos que no dan mucho juego, pero no están mal para matar el gusanillo entre novela larga y novela larga, porque esta serie crea adicción.

Four stories in which the first, and longest, was the best one. But it reminded me too much of Agatha Christie's books and writing style. It was not that original.
The other three were just so flat and I don't get the purpose of it. They were really, really short and didn't give me a thriller vibe.
I am a little disappointed in this, but will definitely check out Läckberg's other books because I think I will enjoy them more than this short story collection.

Libro estructurado en 4 relatos cortos. El más largo es el primero, que da nombre al título del libro. Martin (policía de la comisaria de Fjällbacka, donde tiene lugar la serie de Erica) es presentado a la familia de su "novia" en una isla, aprovechando las navidades... Una época estupenda para juntar a la familia bien avenida, con un abuelo millonario y que se siente decepcionado con toda su familia... En medio de la cena, el anciano fallece. Ha comenzado una tormenta de nieve, se quedan aislados en la casa.. Así que, que mejor que guardar el cadáver en la nevera... Qué suerte que Martin está en la casa para resolver el caso.. En fin... Secretos de familia, odios, envidias... que en la época en la que se escribe la historia es cuando hay que decir... que se armó el belén...
Las otras tres historias son más cortitas... Me ha gustado mucho la tercera "Una muerte elegante"..

Libro con varios relatos cortos, donde aparecen los protagonistas de los anteriores libros, una lectura entretenida y rápida de leer, aunque hubiera preferido que se centrara en un solo caso, ya que al haber varios, da la sensación de un final rápido sin nada de misterio. Con ganas de que vuelva a publicar sus novelas de siempre.

Having been a fan of Camilla Lackberg for several years, was excited when I came across this short story collection. The first story was the longest ( about 2/3 of the book), and the other three stories were relatively short. All well told with an element of suspense. I liked The Widow’s Café the most.
A quick enjoyable read~ 3.5 stars from me.

I am intending to begin reading Camilla Lackberg’s series set in Fjällbacka, Sweden and featuring detective Patrik Hedström soon and I wanted to gain a flavour of the author’s style of writing in preparation. Knowing that several of her regular cast make appearances in this collection of stories (a 134 page novella and three short stories), I chose to begin here. Having read several other reviews since completing The Scent of Almonds and Other Stories I suspect I would have been advised to dive straight into the series with this collection mediocre at best. For originality, suspense and unpredictability this compact collection would not score particularly highly.
The Scent of Almonds
This novella is obviously inspired by the Agatha Christie classic ‘And Then There Were None’, and opens with rookie detective Martin Molin in apprehensive mood as he ventures to a small island off Fjällbacka ahead of spending the weekend before Christmas with the wealthy family of new girlfriend, Lisette Liljecrona. Feeling like a fraud given his relationship with a woman he isn’t particularly serious about he soon finds himself in the midst of bitterness and acrimony as long held family tensions are aired at the dinner table, only for the uncomfortable situation to become far worse when a blizzard and snowstorm leaves phone lines down and makes leaving the island an impossibility. When Ruben, Lisette’s imperious grandfather, and the oldest member of the clan who built the family business and turned it into a successful worldwide empire fires off a volley of insults he vows to change his will and disinherit the whole family only to then drop dead midway through his meal tensions abruptly come to a head. Soon the families of Ruben’s two sons, Harald and Gustav, are at loggerheads with a second death, of Ruben’s youngest grandson and Lisette’s brother, Matte, having repercussions throughout the group. As the only one to show any genuine grief about Ruben’s demise and seen as the likely recipient of choice to inherit the family wealth, Matte’s death evokes some surprising responses and it is down to Martin to uncover just what went on.
I did not think Martin showed himself as a competent or gifted investigator and his series of questions seemed akin to stumbling around in the dark. Together with the overly familiar snowstorm and thunder claps masking gunshot scenario and a solution revealed as taken from a Sherlock Holmes novel I wasn’t particularly impressed. Given the premise has been rather done to death in mystery novels it simply felt like a poor imitation of the original. Needless to say Martin’s burgeoning summer romance with Lisette is well and truly over by the end of the story!
An Elegant Death
Seamstress Lisbeth Wåhlberg has realised her lifelong dream and after her husband’s death she has used their remaining finances to move back to the village where she grew up and open a small vintage clothing shop with living accommodation above. Having been in business for several weeks only Patrick Hedström is called to what at first looks to have been a robbery gone wrong that has left Lisbeth dead. But with the crime scene evidence of a murder committed in a fit of uncontrollable rage, Hedström suspects it is more personal and as funeral preparations begin the spotlight turns towards the deteriorating relations between Lisbeth’s eldest and rather condescending daughter, Tina, and subdued youngest, Linnea. Although eminently predictable this pithy little story raises a smile from the satisfaction of seeing two very different daughters and someone having got their just desserts!
Dreaming of Elisabeth
A short take on a psychological thriller with Malin sailing with her husband, Lars, and musing on their marital problems and an atmosphere full of uncomfortable silences and barely concealed tension. As Malin drifts in and out of reveries she remembers the first wife of Lars, Elisabeth, who tragically fell overboard when sailing and analyses the miscarriages which have left her devastated and created a divide with her husband. A quirky story with Marianne having opened her cafe three years previously after she was widowed by an abusive husband whose reign of terror is never far from her mind. When the Widows’ Cafe is spotted to be the connection between the deaths of several men it brings the attentions of DI Eva Wârn who ends up getting plenty more than she bargained for at the start of her enquiries! Amusing and satisfyingly tense with an unexpected conclusion.

This novella is obviously inspired by the Agatha Christie classic ‘And Then There Were None’, and opens with rookie detective Martin Molin in apprehensive mood as he ventures to a small island off Fjällbacka ahead of spending the weekend before Christmas with the wealthy family of new girlfriend, Lisette Liljecrona. Feeling like a fraud given his relationship with a woman he isn’t particularly serious about he soon finds himself in the midst of bitterness and acrimony as long held family tensions are aired at the dinner table, only for the uncomfortable situation to become far worse when a blizzard and snowstorm leaves phone lines down and makes leaving the island an impossibility. When Ruben, Lisette’s imperious grandfather, and the oldest member of the clan who built the family business and turned it into a successful worldwide empire fires off a volley of insults he vows to change his will and disinherit the whole family only to then drop dead midway through his meal tensions abruptly come to a head. Soon the families of Ruben’s two sons, Harald and Gustav, are at loggerheads with a second death, of Ruben’s youngest grandson and Lisette’s brother, Matte, having repercussions throughout the group. As the only one to show any genuine grief about Ruben’s demise and seen as the likely recipient of choice to inherit the family wealth, Matte’s death evokes some surprising responses and it is down to Martin to uncover just what went on.
I did not think Martin showed himself as a competent or gifted investigator and his series of questions seemed akin to stumbling around in the dark. Together with the overly familiar snowstorm and thunder claps masking gunshot scenario and a solution revealed as taken from a Sherlock Holmes novel I wasn’t particularly impressed. Given the premise has been rather done to death in mystery novels it simply felt like a poor imitation of the original. Needless to say Martin’s burgeoning summer romance with Lisette is well and truly over by the end of the story!
An Elegant Death
Seamstress Lisbeth Wåhlberg has realised her lifelong dream and after her husband’s death she has used their remaining finances to move back to the village where she grew up and open a small vintage clothing shop with living accommodation above. Having been in business for several weeks only Patrick Hedström is called to what at first looks to have been a robbery gone wrong that has left Lisbeth dead. But with the crime scene evidence of a murder committed in a fit of uncontrollable rage, Hedström suspects it is more personal and as funeral preparations begin the spotlight turns towards the deteriorating relations between Lisbeth’s eldest and rather condescending daughter, Tina, and subdued youngest, Linnea. Although eminently predictable this pithy little story raises a smile from the satisfaction of seeing two very different daughters and someone having got their just desserts!
Dreaming of Elisabeth
A short take on a psychological thriller with Malin sailing with her husband, Lars, and musing on their marital problems and an atmosphere full of uncomfortable silences and barely concealed tension. As Malin drifts in and out of reveries she remembers the first wife of Lars, Elisabeth, who tragically fell overboard when sailing and analyses the miscarriages which have left her devastated and created a divide with her husband. This collection holds four short stories by Lackberg based on the characters she has created within the Patrik Hedstrom series. Each tale is a stand alone story that combines her skill as a crime writer with mysterious circumstances and intriguing characters and situations. The title story is very much a mystery story of the more traditional Sherlock Holmes style (although being familiar with Conan Doyle meant I did manage to figure out the twist before Martin did), while the next two stories were more in keeping with Lackberg's other work. But by far my favourite was the last story, The Widow's Cafe, which I shan't tell you too much about so I don't spoil it but I will say I was cheering happily to myself as I read the final pages (it's this that pushing the rating to 5 stars in my opinion). A great little collection that offers a great introduction to Lackberg's writing if you haven't tried it already and is a fabulous stop gap for those between books in the Hedstrom series.

This was very much a classic style whodunnit -a family group trapped on an island in a storm & one of them is murdered,all very Agatha Christie....even down to the let's go down to the library...oh & the pistol shots coinciding with thunder.
An Elegant Twist
This story of the death of woman has a nice twist at the end. Okay you'll spot it coming a mile off but it was still a satisfying conclusion.

Resumido en una palabra: mierda.
Resumido en dos palabras: puta mierda.
No sé si nunca en mi vida había leído tremenda basura (y sí, he leído un invitado inesperado).
Inesperada ha sido esta trama, de lo mala que es. Para empezar, las historietas esas sin ton ni son no las entiendo, el propósito de estas será amargarme la vida para no poderme terminar nunca este libro de mierda.
Respecto al primer relato, qué decir, pensaba que no podía ser peor teniendo en cuenta que ponen de amantes a unos PRIMOS, sinó que, además, resulta que el asesinato es un suicidio y nos han intentado "hacer el lío".
Ja, ja, mira como me río. Ostras, que nos la han colado!!!!!!!🙂
Poco más, solo añadir que creo que tendríamos que dejar de escoger libros tan tremendamente horrendos para el club de lectura y empezar a tener buen gusto porque yo era un poco feliz antes de leer este libro, y ahora creo que no podré serlo nunca más.

This is a collection of short stories - The Scent Of Almonds, An Elegant Death, Dreaming of Elisabeth, The Widow's Café.
The Scent of Almonds was the longest story and the one I enjoyed the most. It was like a locked room murder mystery and there was a good amount of twists.
Truth be told, I find the stories here are just okay as they feel familiar to me and somewhat predictable.
This was my first book by this author and although it didn't give me that wowza feeling, I will still be reading her other books. I always feel that short stories are a hit or miss and not always an accurate indicator of the author's other books.

Está más que claro que esta mujer sabe como crear suspense e historias que te dejen con ganas de más. Y eso es lo que me ha pasado con esta serie de breves relatos que nada tienen que ver unos con otros, está claro que te imaginas que pasa después pero... ¿por qué no contarlo y dejarlo como si de un simple borrador se tratase? Por no hablar de lo absurdos que son algunos, donde parece que además el culpable sale impune :s no, eso no me ha gustado nada. En serio, muerte a los malditos finales abiertos.

I have never read Camilla Lackberg before and the first story in this was very interesting and introduced you to Martin. I truly did enjoy that story and would say that the first part was a definite 4 star read. The second part of this I just didn't enjoy and would say 2 stars. An average of 3 Stars.
I will pickup more books by her in the future to read them as I think that these stories shows a lot of promise and I think that she has a style that works well.

The first story was a through back to a Sherlock Holmes story until Martin figured it out. I liked the last story the best of all because of the detective. Read why? I really appreciated the story of Malin and Lars, it was very telling.

Libro que recoge varios relatos relacionados con los personajes de la saga principal y más conocida de Camilla Lackberg, “Los crímenes de Fjallbacka”.
Me da pena darle está puntuación, pero es que después de ser una fan de la autora me esperaba algo más de su estilo y lo que me he encontrado han sido relatos que a veces no entendía demasiado bien el mensaje que quería transmitir.
De las diferentes historias que componen este libro me quedo con la primera, la que le da el nombre al libro y es que Martin, un personaje que ubicamos en todas las historias de Fjallbacka es el protagonista de esta.
Muy al estilo de Agatha Christie (dándome vibes de Diez negritos), esta historia es la que me ha mantenido pegada las páginas de estos relatos. Pero el resto me han dejado un regusto amargo sin llegar a entender cuál era el propósito de sus palabras.
Encontramos todo tipo de mensajes insertos: maltrato, bullying, familias desestructuradas, venganzas, entre otros tantos.
Pero, aunque la autora ha intentado insertar diferentes giros de guion, eran demasiado esperables y nada sorprendentes.
Me duele dar tan mala puntuación a la autora porque me encantan sus historias, pero esta no ha habido por donde cogerla.

Debo reconocer que tenía altas expectativas respecto a este libro cuando inicié a leerlo. Al comenzar se me hizo como la narrativa de Agatha Christie en sus relatos policiacos. Sin embargo me terminé perdiendo. Este libro es un conjunto de relatos donde no se les encuentra un final claro.
Pero no todo fue malo, me gustó mucho el Café de las Viudas , aunque me hubiera gustado comprender el desenlace al 100%.
En el caso del relato de la hija con su madre, me hubiese encantado conocer que pasaba después con la hija, ya que sentí que el relato se quedó cortado.
Le doy 100 puntos al narrador del audiolibro que escuché, realmente me encantó.
