I want to preface this review with saying the overall story was a good one, however it fell short for me in its delivery. My lackluster response to this book stems from several places but mostly has to do with the poor storytelling as well as authors questionable sentence structures. Now don't get me wrong I read this book for what it was, or at least what I thought it would be; a nice little distraction with and predictable storyline and even more predictable ending, and was pleasantly surprised by the fact that it was not entirely predictable.
However I do not appreciate it when I am pulled out of my romance haze, in the middle of a love scene because I just can't a) hold in my laughter any longer or b) feel the overwhelming need to go back and reread aloud (in my most sarcastic and disbelieving voice) the word choices used to describe the parts and byproducts of sex. This was in my opinion one of the most irritating habits of this author. She further goes on to annoy me with her seemingly overwhelming need to cram as many words into a sentence as possible and thereby ends up repeating herself, and/or the aforementioned "creative" descriptions of body parts. My last critique to the writing itself falls in the personal taste category. I am not a huge fan of starting in the middle of the story and then communicating through flashbacks as the main character introduces and monologues the day as an episodic.
As for the characters, they all seemed to lack a little something to connect to.
The heroine is just a little too naive/trusting/stupid (however you want to look at it) for my tastes, as well as disrespectful toward the person she professes for really care about.
The prince's were just basically, forgive my language, man-whores, without a care in the world or a thought to the consequences of their actions. They very actively created a situation in which they were aware of their wrong doings but decided that momentarily pleasure was worth possibly ruining someone's life/relationships.
As for Gordon, really we just didn't see enough of him. It was very hard to understand his acceptance of the situation toward the end other than to just say he is obviously a very well adjusted, enlightened, and forgiving man.
Finally, the ending was just a little too abrupt for my tastes. The conflict of the story was wrapped up in a neat little bow while only skimming the surface of what the whole situation would have done to the characters emotionally.
