I originally read this novelette in the Where the Light May Lead anthology, and I quite enjoyed this rom-com featuring a humorous heroine who's self-conscious but also self-aware. Beauty and hotness come in all different packages, folks!

I read through this really quickly and it kept my interest. Admittedly, this is not my genre, but I found it a nice character piece, introducing two people and hinting at a future together. I liked the open endedness of it. It brought them to a believable place and then leaves the rest up to your imagination, which I think is nice.

I would have liked this if there were actually a plot... Tessa meets Tim at a bridal shower and she seems to constantly miss the signs that he's flirting with her. He helps to repair her car. The end.

Seriously?

The couple: Tim and Tessa

Romance genre: Christian romance
Length: 158 pages

Plot: Tessa is supposed to go to a baby shower for a co-worker and she is not looking forward to it. Happily and unluckily at the same time, her car breaks down in the parking lot. Tim is also in the parking lot about to go to the baby shower, and he's able to help her with her car. They start to bond and Tess takes her car to Tim's house for some more help.

Commentary: I did not know this was going to be a Christian romance. I probably wouldn't have read it, and in fact did not really enjoy the conversations about the blessings of God and going to church. Other than that message, there wasn't too much plot despite the length of the book. But then, I doubt I'm the target audience, so there are definitely people out there who would like this a lot more than I did.

I thought it was a novel when it piqued my interest but it's pretty much a short story. A lot of detail about the monotonous daily regimens fleshed it out so it wouldn't be classified as too short to publish.

During that time, she gained thirty pounds, which I'm assuming causes people to become overly critical of their weight and other people's weights, not to mention they must constantly obsess over diets, food, and clothes that don't fit.

This story has no plot . . . really. It just spends two days in the life of our MC and 15% of the book is her getting dressed Sunday morning (her cat didn't help her up after she fell while changing in the WC, bad Bootsy) - ugh. The only "flaw" the author gave the MC was a little extra weight and then made it seem like Tessa was a beached whale. If you need to drop less than a hundred pounds (a little under 7 stone), you're not fat, you're just overweight, but it's manageable.

I thought I was in for a cute rom-com novel, but it ends rather abruptly with her taking the guy she's known for two days to church - no idea what happens after that. The Christian tones make me think that's probably the equivalent of the MC getting her happily-ever-after. One guy sees beyond her extra weight and it's wedding bells time.

Will authors ever write more than one non-jerk character in a story? Just because they're a decent human being and not a wish-fulfilment LI for the MC? No? Well, a guy can dream.

I'm not sure about the author's own experiences with weight problems, but it's pretty rife in fiction (both written and filmed) that a 200-250 pound person is gargantuan (sitcoms handle this extremely poorly just for cheap laughs). No, not really, unless the person just happens to not carry it well or is child-short (or a child). If someone is over 5 ft (150-ish cm), then considering the average weight for that person is 130-180 pounds, they're not going to start "growing double chins" until they hit 350+ pounds. And that depends on whether they have muscle tone or not adding to weight, since muscle packs on weight more than "fluff" does. In today's society, do people no longer know how to read weight on someone? It's like 200 lbs is the new 400 lbs - society is horrible and I want to apologise on behalf of society: to anyone who feels like they're struggling with weight, for the love of mother nature, just tune the negativity out as much as possible. You do you, peeps!

Kick back and enjoy

This book is light-hearted but filled with morals. We've all probably been in many of the places Tessa finds herself faced with. Would we react the same?

A short love story a messages it says about being a Christian you don’t need to follow weird rules which is true but you do need to follow God’s rules which are his commandments. The books invites you to go to church and believe in God I would of liked it to say more though about God’s love. The story ended a bit too soon given that the relationship just started then the story ends but overall a good quick good read.

Good Story

I love clean romances. Tessa has money issues. When she goes to a bridal shower and realizes she left the gift at home, she decides to leave. But her car won't start. A very kind man who witnessed her anxiety offers to help. And he is easy on the eyes! She is attached to him, and apparently Tim is attracted to her. Tim is a good man. Very spiritual. I really enjoyed reading this.

Parts of it was funny and parts of it was sad. I was bothered by her making fun of herself and her low self esteem. Everyone is deserving of love. This book was a hard truth and a very realistic picture of someone most of us may know. I think it could've been developed a tad bit more. I needed more information. I would read her again though.

That's How She Rolls was a sweet story! Although, in my opinion, novelettes always go by way too fast. It felt like I was just getting to truly know Tessa when the story came to an end. While fun and a quick read, it just wasn't quite my style. Nothing bad, just not me. I'd recomend that you decide for yourself. :)

I originally read this novelette in the Where the Light May Lead anthology.

I've wanted to read this story ever since I saw the cover. I thoroughly enjoyed it and was totally disappointed at the end to discover that it was over! The author's writing is wonderful and polished and the story contains the right balance of humor and romance. I want more though! Can we please get a sequel?! :)
