THRESHOLD

Rate this book
It is the eve of All Soul’s celebration and honoring of the departed. . . In the darkness of a moonless night, the ghost cat creeps across the U.S.–Mexico border and through a farmer's field just as a small child wanders into its path. Not far away, Sonya Morales, a border agent, struggles to escape from her drug cartel kidnappers. In Tucson, Arizona, confronted by crisis in their own world—climate scientists, politicians and residents face the biggest challenge man can encounter—no water, anywhere. In the city’s barrios, families and community leaders band together as they face unbearable heat and the crushing weight of the gangs that intimidate them. Amidst the turmoil, three teens navigate adolescence to become leaders in a new world. With shifting sand underfoot, characters follow their intuition and learn new skills as they chart a way into a viable future. ‘Threshold’ will make you think while it celebrates the enduring nature of communities as they search for what is lasting and true.

Very well written book about a serious problem that is coming to us here in the desert Southwest like a tsunami wave. Actually wished the book was longer because the author created characters in difficult positions that I cared about and would love to have seen developed a tad bit more.

Great writing about a problem that is just going to keep getting worse as the climate changes grow due to humanities' wretched excesses. What makes this writing so good is that it is not "preachy" and provides clear-eyed solutions to a looming tragedy.

I recommend this book and this author highly. Perhaps a look back in 20 years is in order. Could very well be "The Sand County Almanac" or "Silent Spring" of our generation. Rock on, Susan Feathers. You got the talent, Lady!
