Sometimes it's good to sit down and read a book just for the sheer enjoyment of it. This book had action, suspense and romance. It didn't take long to read because the story moved pretty fast.

I liked the characters right from the start and by about midpoint through the book, I really really like Dillon.

I do wish there had been more of a description of him, though. All I really got out of it was that he had pale blue eyes.

Good read!

Dillon Savage has just received an early release from prison by the same cattle inspector who put them there. Why? To help her find and bring to justice a group of rustlers she thinks are still working under his orders. But Dillon thinks he was framed the first time and he has no idea who is stealing the cattle this time around. How can he convince Jacklyn Wilde? That's the real job he faces.

But what he has to keep under control is his attraction to the law enforcement officer. Then, they begin to uncover clues that convince him that the rancher who took the neighboring ranch from his late father. But who is the leader? Gradually Dillon begins to eliminate the former friends who could have set him up.

And when first one and then a second local rancher turn up dead, the stakes go sky high. It's no longer cattle rustling; now it's murder. How can Dillon and Jacklyn get to the bottom of the mystery before they, too, are done away with?

Dillon Savage was serving time in prison for cattle rustling when he was released early to help catch a new group of rustlers. His early release was orchestrated by stock detective Jacklyn Wilde in the hopes that Dillon can help find the rustlers. All of the ranches have lost cattle except the large ranch owned by Shade Waters and Dillon and Jack think Waters is the rustler. Dillon finds dead calves in one of Waters’ stock trucks. Each had been shot in the head and their ear tags and brand removed. He saw the truck headed north, back toward his old ranch. Now they have to find proof.

I like reading books with Montana land marks. Good plot, kept me guessing until the end. I will be looking for more B J Daniels books.

big sky standoff

This also is a very good read. It was a little slow for the first chapter or two. Once I got into it I couldn’t put it down. Looking for another of her books.

I love B.J. Daniels' stories....usually. This is the only one of her books that I remember reading just to get through with it, rather than to get to the end. One of the reasons was that the couple just didn't seem to match. She had her reasons there, I guess, for why she thought they worked, but it just didn't work for me. Neither of the characters seemed to be as real as her others. The mystery was far too easy, I knew as soon as I was introduced to the character that they were the villain. And throwing in a casual reference to another one of her books (one of my favorites, the one that started it all for her books as far as I'm concerned) did not help and was completely unnecessary. (In fact, I'm STILL not sure why she did it.) Bottom line, this author is a great author, but unless you're just dying for a B.J. Daniels fix and have read EVERY THING else she's written, I wouldn't waste my time with this one.

I love how BJ Daniels isn't afraid to kill people off. Her stories are always action packed with badass female characters. I couldn't put this one down until the end, which just sucked... I hated the sappy end and the blatant tie ins to other books. Maybe this is a harlequin thing? Probably. I think I'll imagine my own ending. Jack is no relation to Hud, and Jack and Dillon don't move to Whitehorse. Shade left the farm to Dillon instead of slicing out Dillon's old homestead to a ranch for troubled teens. Jack keeps her job and she and Dillon enjoy a nice steak dinner every Sunday with the child(ren) they may or may not have. Shade's ghost haunts the place for a few weeks, knocking things over and putting bulletholes in the side of a barn until reda's ashes are scattered in the old swimmin' hole they used to skinny dip in. Reda's ranch becomes a ranch for troubled old ladies that like to gossip while they go horseback riding. Take that, harlequin!

Jacklyn Wilde arrested Dillon Savage 4 years ago for cattle rustling. Now she is getting him released in order to help her capture another gang of rustlers in his old territory. Jack believes that Dillon is the mastermind even from prison. Dillon is a really intelligent guy, with 3 college degrees to prove it. Bad blood, nasty neighbors and a son who can't seen to win the approval of his father.

Why don't they just put chips in the cows? You chip a dog and you lojack a car. At $1,000 a pop it would seen to be a good investment. But, I forget, this is a romance and things like technology and common sense are often not involved.

Good cozy romance story and a passable mystery.

The Big Sky Standoff by B.J. Daniels tells the fictional story of Dillon Savage who has been in prison for cattle rustling and cattle inspector Jacklyn Wilde who had put him there in the first place but now gets him released so Savage can help her catch another group of rustlers. For anyone who likes cowboy romantic this is a great read just like most of B.J. Daniels books. There are no real surprises, the story moves fast and has the happy ending everyone expects. Nevertheless it's enjoyable to read on a cold winter night in front of the fire place.

The book was ok. I think what I liked the most from the story was how Dillon often teased Jack. Jack on the other hand was a little hard to understand. Her feelings regarding Dillon were confusing and I got really annoyed how she kept saying Dillon was running the rustling and how forcefully she would say it.

This has a slow feel to it as a lot of the B.J. Daniels books have to them. There was some action but not a lot of excitement.

I found this book at a bar and took it home to read. Daniels gives great descriptive visuals, you pick up on the character's personalities immediately. The book was fun to read but the romance in it was a bit of a turn off. The chemistry between Wilde and Dillon was entertaining but Wilde was just too paranoid about their "relationship". I was hoping for more of a tragic ending but sadly this one ends happily. Overall, good read to pass the day.

Jackyln Wilde obtains an early release from jail for Dillon Savage so that he can help her track down and arrest cattle rustlers. Jacklyn suspects that Dillon has been running the cattle theft operation from jail. Set in Montana, this is B. J. Daniels usual well-written western romance.
