I was initially a bit bummed that no Disney worlds are featured in this volume, despite it being the lengthiest volume of the four, but I was pleasantly surprised that they took the epilogue montage featured at the end of the game over music/credits and transferred it to the manga, but with dialogue this time. It was a nice way of connecting everything back to the Disney worlds and characters, which is the biggest draw for me with Kingdom Hearts.
It's taken me many years but finally I am able to complete the manga collection for this one. After the first three volumes were released in fairly quick succession, and no news on the fourth, I was starting to think it was going to be abandoned and my collection left incomplete. But I digress...
I've always loved the Kingdom Hearts mangas, and finally seeing the conclusion to this one in manga form made me very happy. The Kingdom Hearts 2 manga seemed much more 'grown up' than its predecessors. This could be because the original fans were older, or they just decided to remind the readers that behind all the fun and silliness of the characters, there is a very deep story behind it all. I love the depth of story that Kingdom Hearts possesses, and these four books really held onto it without losing any of the fun. It's a delicate balance - maintaining a light-hearted focus while telling a deep story, and they nailed it just right.
I'm really looking forward to the first of the Kingdom Hearts 2 novels coming out this month, and hoping this does the same as the mangas.
Holy lord my poor heart! This one hurt so bad man. I've played all the games and the Organization is my favorite cast of characters. I think it may have been even worse in the manga...and considering the fact that I've read tons of fan fiction on them and everything. Axel is probably up there with Itachi as one of my favorite characters of all time. I love how the manga explores the characters even more than the games. It gives them all more personality and spunk. Especially here with Demyx (and the scene in the kitchenette with "the water that never was") just these little details to add more fun to the story. Again, I recommend playing the game or else you will probably be lost in some of the manga explanations, but this volume especially was masterfully done. It serves up all the emotion you would want from a story about heart above all else. Perfect.
The manga showcases there is a great and emotional story in this franchise, and I still say it’s the best way to enjoy said story.
It fixes plenty of the issues, changes just the right amount to work better, and it has the right idea of actually ending instead of continuing for the ego’s sake.
This is Kingdom Hearts, story wise, for me. I still love the games for I and II, but I’ll prefer the manga when it comes to the full story.
The conclusion to the Kingdom Hearts II manga. This final volume of the omnibus sets is grand and had many differences from the game that made it enjoyable.
