Former fashion model, and now tenured professor at a small college, Annabelle C. Doyle ("Acie") is part of a group trying to establish a wildlife sanctuary on a donated parcel of land. When the donor dies under unusual circumstances, the land endowment is put in jeopardy.

Unwillingly, Acie and fellow professor Ike Adler are pulled into the investigation. But when the donor’s heir is found dead—after arguing with Acie and Ike—they're suddenly in the spotlight and under suspicion.

Amidst the investigation, Acie is coerced into coming out of retirement to work on a fashion shoot on campus—a shoot that turns into a real "shoot," with Ike in the crosshairs. Acie may lose not only a chance for the love of her lifetime—she may lose her life.

This is an excellent read if you love animals; enjoy small town college America and like romance as the driving factor in the story.
Can I say I enjoyed everything written about the cats and dogs in this book and found the story being set in this college town was very interesting but I didn't care for the sloppy stuff. Not that it is content with just kisses and claims of undying love.
I was attracted to the unexplained deaths of Charlie and later his niece. I thought the character of Dr Doyle was engaging and the book never threatened to stall when she was in the narrative which is most of the novel.
The mystery isn't that difficult to comprehend. It does reflect badly on the local sheriff and law enforcement agencies. However, on the face of it the two deaths were seen as natural causes.
I like that the relationship development between Dr Doyle, Acie and her Mom was realistic and believable and it was amusing to see what Mom and Aunt Sherry in their 80's.
The writing is of a high standard and filled with literature humour that makes this always an entertaining read.
It is my fault as it is billed as 'A Remembered Classics Romance'. A note about the author. J L Wilson writes mysteries touched by romance, time travel mixed with romance and romantic paranormal fiction. clearly they do not write with me in mind but I am delighted to have read it.

A great mystery with older main characters. From the start this book is completely unexpected. The main character Acie is a model possibly in her 50's. Adler is a bit of a dark horse in the beginning, but as the story unfolds his role becomes clear.

This book had me guessing and jumping from one suspect to the next. I enjoyed every minute. It had loads of humor and memorable characters as well as many nail biting moments. I would love to read more books by this author. Highly recommended!

My Review:

There was little to appeal to me about this book until I read the description which is why I placed it above. The Classic Romance part made me imagine an old sixties romance which was fine when I was thirteen, but not today. The Cover made me think of the old Earl Stanley Garner covers on his Perry Mason novels. Again adequate at twelve, but not any more. Then I read the blurb above and it piqued my interest and I took a chance. I am glad I did. There is a romantic element, but the core of the story is the mystery.

Mature characters that are well established in life and their emotions lead the cast. Their are younger characters as well and a few moments of comic relief. On the whole I found the book flows smoothly and quickly. The plot was well done and thought out. I would definitely read another book with these characters.

What a great cozy romance. With a older couple leading an investigation into a murder they set the tone for a classy story. 50+ year old Acie is a professor at a small hometown college and has her mother and elderly aunt riding shotgun into the murder of a man donating a fortune to the school. Ike is a fellow professor who provides the strong romantic interest. Well written, I can't wait to read more by this author. Billed as a classic romance, the mystery is equally as important in this book. Animal lovers will enjoy the addition of the canine help.

A great read that had me hooked from start to finish. A killer plot that keeps you guessing, and characters like Acie and Adler whom are hard not to be fascinated by. 100% recommend!
