Adrienne never knew vampires were more than myth until she woke up as one. Problem is, she's alone, with no explanation for her newfound senses and abilities.
Thankfully Nicholas finds her before it's too late. He offers to take her under his wing and teach her all she needs to know--an offer she can't refuse. Now all she needs to do is keep her fantasies about her new maker to herself.
But, a budding romance with Nicholas is the least of her problems. The vampire who Changed her is back and he's not afraid to hurt those closest to her in order to get what he wants.
Can they find this mysterious vampire before he finds Adrienne? Can Nicholas keep her safe until the threat is eliminated? Or will outside forces tear them apart?
This book contains sexual themes that are intended for audiences 18 and older.
Heather MacKinnon is a USA Today best-selling romance author living in North Carolina with her husband, adorable son, and three trouble making dogs. She grew up on Long Island and spent her young adult years living in various states in New England. This led to her subsequent addiction to Dunkin’ Donuts lattes and her gratuitous use of the word “wicked”. After a lifetime of enjoying other people’s words, she decided to write down some of her own.
Changed was fast-paced, thrilling and full of awesomeness.
I love Vampire novels and Changed was just the type of book that touches your heart.
With awesome characters, catchy dialogues and writing style, Changed was an unputdownable read that I finished as soon as I could. I even almost missed my bus stop, I was so engrossed in the book!
This book was time well spent and smiles well deserved, if that makes any sense at all. ;)
Book started out well but went down hill fast. It is a insta love where neither of the main characters have substance. Neither one has any real interests. The main male character is never really described other than being hot, the author puts more emphasis on him wearing a T-shirt and jeans rather than how he looks. The “judicial” system is a freaking joke. The main male has some high standing there but for what ever reason his word holds no weight as a witness. They have a 2 min court case of, the big bad going “yeah we’re in love give her to me” like she’s a freaking object: the main girl is like “no, he beat the shit out of me and changed me against my will and left me to die” and the court still went, “yeah were forcing you to spend 2 weeks with a random person you’ve already accused of abuse and breaking our law of going through a process, also it’s your word against his so your shit out of luck.” Then without knowing any information on this person force her to go with him. They didn’t bring up the badly beaten roommate or the fact that they don’t even have a way to enforce there policies other than the honor rule. This lack of world building or any intelligence from any character just ruins the book. By the way trigger warning for as soon as they are alone he proceeds to ruthlessly torture her like everyone knew he would.

Blood Debt is more than a vampire, paranormal romance. It's more than the love story between Nicholas and Adrienne. Seemingly, the book has a different take on the vampire world but there was something so familiar about the vampire world building in this book.
The romance between Nicholas and Adrienne is sweet and sensual. One blurb stated that "a budding romance with Nicholas is the least of her problems. The vampire who changed her is back and he's not afraid to hurt those closest to her in order to get what he wants." It continues by asking questions: "Can they find this mysterious vampire before he finds Adrienne? Can Nicholas keep her safe until the threat is eliminated? Or will outside forces tear them apart?".
I was left with other questions. Nicholas was a powerful vampire in this new world yet unaware of what her maker, Massimo, was capable of doing. Why did he think that giving her a phone and putting a tracking device on her would keep her safe? What was the vampire council thinking when they didn't sentence Massimo to death after his ruthless, vicious physical abuse of Adrienne? They knew he had no respect for human or vampire life? Why didn't they know that a vampire as old as Massimo had to have other made vampires who would do anything to help him? Those questions weren't clearly answered. There were so many other questions.
Blood Debt is not just part of a series of books but was almost a cliffhanger in spite of the HFN ending, which is not as definitive as a HEA. Finally, why would the next book be about two characters in Blood Debt that had no backstory? Nothing make a me want to continue the series!
Unfortunately I found this book a waste of time. Not for me. Writing could be juvenile with the main character's inner monologue. Most bland, tame, safe, nothing-emotionally-challenging is happening vampire story I can imagine until The part I really liked was the two seconds of explaining the vampire love interest's backstory and if that had been fleshed out than I think I would have been genuinely interested in him as a character, but alas it was just the two second backstory exposition and then not explored further.
The whole book spanned about a week and a day. Insta love definitely happened within that timeframe. Well, even before the week was up. From strangers to in love in just about a heartbeat. It was painful to read.
There was nothing to draw me into the characters at all. I didn't care about them, barely knew them, and barely learned anything about them.
The plot was so thin and unsubstantial that it didn't matter.
This whole book was basically about that insta love. Anything else was pushed to the side or just added to the insta love.
I don't know many people that like that.. but if that's your thing, then this is the book for you.
Adrianna left a club and was walking home when she was attacked~ She woke up in a basement with no recollection of what transpired. She was running around when a man named Nicholas stopped her from making strange accusations. At first, she did not understand what was wrong…then she found out she was a vampire~ She had no idea who turned her and left her. Nicholas adopted her as a progeny. Everything was going along great until the one who turned her showed up to contest Nicholas’s claim. She is to spend up to two weeks with the original one who turned her…but at what cost? What will he do to her? He already attacked some others looking for her…and they do not know what else he has done or what he is capable of…can Nicholas save her? Whose progeny will she end up as?
The first half was good and then it went straight to horrible. This author has been through the horrors of our judicial system...which never embraces justice, especially justice for children...or they've been close to someone who did. The trauma of such injustice was too well catalogued to be anything else...WHY WOULD ANYONE ENJOY WRITING THIS...MUCH LESS CALL IT ENTERTAINMENT. I don't know is wrong with this authors....but something is very wrong here. I don't recommend this book to anyone. I finally began skimming through once I realized this went from a good story to the fear and trauma of abuse at the hands of the judicial system. Heather MacKinnon, get help. This is not entertainment. How very disturbing...
Nothing like a great, steamy vampire romance novel to start a vacation. I purchased the Changed series from Heather a while back and I'm so glad I did. I binged the whole series in 48 hours. While I definitely want to go into detail, I won't because I don't like spoilers. But here's what you need to know. The whole series is phenomenal and spans 3 different relationships but characters are mentioned in every book. They're smaller stories but packed with action, romance, and intense plots that keep you on the edge of your seat. I definitely recommend this series, especially if you like to read in "bite-size" chunks. *pun intended*
------ This was a good story to read, fast and simple, I enjoy the premises of the book, the characters and the ambience, but would love it if the Massimo story was a little bit more explained and not over so fast. Definitely going to read the rest of the series.
First off, this is not the typical “YA” vampire story. This is about adults doing adult things. Sometimes these things are sexual and sometimes they are brutal. For awhile I thought I knew how it was going to end up but then the story shifted a bit and I wasn’t sure. I knew how I wanted it to be resolved but I wasn’t convinced that it would happen that way. Read it for yourself and figure it out. It’s well written with a good story but it could have used a bit more character development.
Great fast paced love story with mystery and suspense. Kept me captivated right from the beginning. Loved that it wasn't a typical storyline. Read a lot of vampire books and this author made it believable. Can't wait for next book because I have to see what happens next with this couple. I would definitely read more books by this author again. The book doesn't end of a cliff hanger which is refreshing !
This has a different twist on it but it just doesn’t feel realist enough for me. Signing papers, asking for permission to be changed just doesn’t seem natural. I just could not get into it and the author just did not hold my interest. Other love it and I am sure more will but for me the author lost me and I couldn’t be bought back. Please take a chance and give it a read there are some very good parts, an interesting romance and some new twist.
It was good as far as stories go but it felt like there was alot of over explaining things. I mean it was fairly predictable where it was they where headed but it took them till the last 30 pages to admit they love each other. Also, I don't really understand how this is supposed to be a prequel, would make more since if it was simple book 1 in the series. Lastly it would have made for a way better book if you got to read Nick's point of view.
The book has a great story line but a few inconsistencies that were hard to get over while reading. One in particular was in the beginning it was said it took 3 days for the change to complete but later it was said, if she had still been in the basement past dawn she would of been dust. Other than the couple of inconsistencies this book was awesome. It will be interesting to see how book 2 develops.
I’ve not found a vampire book that’s kept me glued to the story line for ages. Fantastically written. This book got: Suspense, romance, lust, friendship, abuse, violence, hope, and love. It’s dark in a few many places but written so well that you’re gripping for the next line to read. Definitely reading more written by this author. I am hoping book 2 is written just has amazing.
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and it's new take on vampire society. I do wish there was more to show how this one differed from other vampire societies I've read about, but I appreciated that she made vampires seem relatively normal. I can't stand it when some go overboard and make it cheesy. I look forward to reading more!
This book is intense and action packed! I love that the story flows so well. You never know what will happen next. Adrianne and Nicholas are the sweetest. His manners and language compliment his age well and allows the reader to understand his experiences. She is just such a novice but takes life one day at a time. Can't wait to see what happens next for these two!
I have enjoyed reading this book. It was well written and kept you interested in the story line. I found it hard to put down and I look forward to reading more about these characters and their story. If you love a great vampire story you will find that in this book. I am looking forward to reading more from this author.
I really enjoyed this story of how she became a vampire and all that enfolded afterwards. The one that turned her is a truly evil one and I look forward to when he is removed on a more permanent basis. I look forward to reading more of these stories as I found this one quite captivating.
It started out promising but then it ended up super slow. All the training was interrupted by slow romance. The romance was interrupted by them running around and court politics. It was a little frustrating with all the jumping around. It was entertaining up until a point then it just fell flat. I wasn't really impressed.
This story had a large amount of detail to it. Just the right amount. The whole story takes place in about 2 weeks. There are a few unrealistic parts but they play well with the desperately in love thing the main characters have. I guessed that the HEA might not last and the fact that there are more books seem to support this theory.
This was fast paced and exciting for me I've read a lot of vampire stories and this one was a lot different to others I've read a story that captured me from start to finish I loved it can't wait to see what this author brings out next I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book.
I love a good standalone and this didn't disappoint.. I find that the author is amazing at dropping you in a supernatural world that is so natural. Thanks for the read
Changed will have you begging for more, Heather Mckinnon has written an excellent book with bite. Full of passion an mystery that let's your heart skip a beat.
Loved the book. It puts a whole new spin on vampires. The author did a wonderful job of portraying the vampire society and the vampires world. The characters were amazing and there is even a love story that will make you smile. Great job.
This book was so intriguing. Nicholas and Adrienne are a wonderful match. I loved watching them grow closer and the ending! Oh my goodness I can’t wait to see what happens next!
Totally the BEST vampire story I've ever read 😃. Truly intense emotions, Fabulous storyline, insane maker, yummy sexy scenes and a Wonderful hero 😊. Thanks so much Heather, I'm completely looking forward to reading more of this series 🤓.
Awful. Awful. The plot made no sense as it progressed, especially when she was literally put in harms way and everyone sort of agreed to it. That's not a hero I wanna read about. And generally speaking, the story/plot was very weak.
