I claim three great accomplishments in my life: my family, my medical career, and my writing.  They are in, I am certain, their proper order.  My family, includes my perfect wife Karen, my wonderful children (adults now) Chris and Kim, my sweet grandson Jonathan. And now you! From family, I draw strength, love, and meaning.  What humbling gifts.  I am almost as proud of my incredible career as a physician (no, not that I'm incredible, it's that the journey was).  I'm an Internest and have worked in ER's, hospitals, clinics, homes, and most places between.  What a rush!  When I say it's an honor and a privilege to be a doctor, I truly mean it.  My writings, provide me a powerful creative outlet and so warms my soul directly.  In my wilder dreams, I hope my writing is of sufficient merit and so benefit you too in an impactful manner.
Know me by what I love: Dickens, Orwell, and Bradbury; Milton, Donne, and Blake; Coltrane, Davis, and Desmond; Picasso, Michelangelo, and Renoir; Astronomy, Biology and Geology; Doctor Who, Star Trek (original TV), and Doctor Who (yeah, I love it that much); Avedon, Doisneau, and Arbus; burger and fries, coc au vin, and pizza-pizza-pizza.  Have I left anything important to me out?  Just one, the most important: God.  I'm an ex-Catholic wondering if churches are device of men and are necessary at all.  More importantly, I wish I spent more time seeing His wonder in the world (I'm not evangelizing, just passing along info; this is a bio, n'est pas?).  Oh, and this has never come up, but there used to be a series of magazine ads where sexy looking people were asked a series of questions about what they liked.  A standard query was: "What's your favorite word?"  So, this really stuck with me (I know, I need to get out more, don't I) and now I can tell someone, you, my favorite word.  Oneself!  I love it.  It means 'on your own' right, but it also refers to the elf you own!  Brilliant word.  Now, where'd I put that elf.......

The story is okay and the banter is decent but what dampened the fun of reading this book were the constant spelling errors and the ever-increasing inconsistency...
1) The Devorian are described initially as having 3 arms and 3 legs, but later the author describes them as having 6 arms...
2) the lifespan of Kaljaxians isn't considered properly as in the previous book it's mentioned at 30 years and then the MC's wife gets near 30 and is barely described ONCE as looking a bit older and that's it.
3) The fish people pop in a couple of times then they disappear from the story.
4) At one point Ryan captures an enemy Berillian, and imprisons her in his cube ship then days and weeks pass by without him saying anything about his prisoner...

Too many holes in the story, the author would benefit IMMENSELY by getting a decent editor to proofread his work. Even if your writing is at Asimov or Tolkins level, if the grammar is lacking and the plot has more holes than a strainer then your writing will only ever be mediocre... I'll give the next book one last chance for the series and that's it...

This, the 2nd book in the series, was better than the first.
I almost gave up on the first book, but as I had the first 2 books in the series as one on Audible I went on with it, despite being tired of the main character. Also, I was awaiting my monthly membership credit for book 4 of The Expanse series 😉

Book 2 in The Forever series, was better than the first. The main character is still annoying me, but some of the aliens introduced where interesting enough to keep me listening till the end.
If I'll go on to book 3, might be down to weather or not I can get it for free.

Now back to The Expanse 😁

Still too wrongly US focused...

By this, the 3rd book, the US slant has become beyond boring to the point of down right annoying. The UN is more completely forgotten despite being the saviour organisation & provider of the original world ships, far far too much time & energy is wasted yakking about what no reader ( out side the US) wants to know. A promising series is losing the battle to keep the reader interested, instead annoyingly returning again & again to a US only view of humanity. With any such mass migration of humanity the tired old nation states would abandoned.
Time for the author to grow a real world view...

Where do you go when you're character gets too powerful too quickly? You make a more powerful enemy, and just simply forget all about the poor sappy threats you introduced in the first book (those silly fishies)!

Robertson continues to write himself out of holes by inventing bigger holes, which is fitting for someone obstinately determined to never fact check himself. We have humour here, bombast, and a deep-seated arrogance. It can be entertaining if you're prepared to blindly ignore the obvious flaws.

John Ryan is a family man these days. We follow his Kaljaxian family as they face a new alien threat. The ending is upsetting.
Three stars because of the ridiculous plot twist with the president. We are supposed to believe a lesbian impregnated by his great grandson is somehow in love with him? Like all the interactions between John and women of any species, it reads like an old guy’s fantasy rather than reality. I suspect the author was going for a Hans Solo vibe.

Why Am i Reading This?

The only reason I can think of is that I have to finish what I start. The characters are two dimensional and the attempt at multi-character plot lines are just as flat. I really don't have too much to say on this series except that there must be something that keeps wanting to torture myself.

A barn burner!

Where book 2 was a bit of a snore... this one is a rollicking ride! Thoroughly enjoyable and fast paced. Does the space opera genre proud. The dialogue is is crazy good and is as snappy as it comes. Definitely a worthy effort.

Heroic and Tragic

Continue development of characters and theme, makes this book very good. The tragic end brings reader's interest to peak, and is great juxtaposition of great victory.

Do mot care for this author.

I don’t care for this author; he uses too much profanity that is not needed. I just fast forwarded when the ignorant bad aliens started start to talk.

Another good one

If you liked the first 2 you will like this one. With there was more Al in it, love that banter. But still was good.

This 3rd book follows Jon Ryan in the next stage of colonization for the humans once earth is destroyed what he doesn't realise once he and his broods mate settle there is that other aliens are watching and thinking he is an alien with advanced technology too want payback for old wars.
This is quite a painful book to read but thankfully not Craig's last in the series!
Jon has a lot to deal with but the plot flows smoothly and we get a good feel of what's to come next.
