Is survival worth any price?
Cast out of the Norm, Lib must fight for every second of life among the Rogues in the desert wasteland that is now her home, scavenging in abandoned cities known as the Empties. With the help of fellow Glitch Skye she hopes to hack the AI that will allow them to return to the city and save her family. There’s just one problem: Lib’s memories are missing.
Lib isn’t like other Glitches. Her ability to merge with technology is causing a rift in her newfound family, and putting them in danger. Soon she’ll have to choose whether to return to the Norm or stay with the people she’s come to rely on in the Outside. When her desire to know the truth about herself forces her to return to the Norm, handsome Rogue leader Wolf Tracker insists on accompanying her to the lion’s den.
There, she meets an old friend—but Lib is no longer sure they can be trusted. When she learns a horrifying truth about the AI and her mother’s part in it, Lib is shaken to the core. Now, she’ll have to decide if humanity’s survival is worth a bloody cost.

About the author

Ramona Finn

Ramona Finn writes about courageous characters who fight to live in broken, dystopian worlds. She grew up sitting cross-legged on her town's library floor - completely engrossed in science fiction books. It was always the futuristic world or the universe-on-the-brink-of-extinction plot lines that drew her in, but it was the brave characters who chose to fight back that kept her turning the pages.

Her books create deep, intricate worlds with bold characters determined to fight for their survival in their dystopian worlds - with a little help from their friends. And, of course, romance is never out of the question...

Like young-adult dystopian books? Then you're going to love Ramona Finn's "The Glitch" -- set in a futuristic world where an Artificial Intelligence rules, Lib wakes up in a barren land with one thought lodged in her mind: "Find the Glitches".

Although I only gave the first book 3 Stars (which is still a good rating for me) Im getting excited for this sequel. Ive been more into scifi lately so I think I might like this sequel more than the first book because Im in the right mood for it.

The Empties by Ramona Finn is book Two in the Glitches Series. As with the first this a great novel. It is not as fast paced as the first, but like all second novels it has a lot of information to get to the reader. A lot of times I feel as if I have to read the third book before I know how I feel about the second novel. This one is good, I already know how I feel about it. The author may have slowed things down a little to give you information, but most of the relationships did not suffer, or you have some closure on the individual situations before the book end.

I cannot wait for the next in the series!!

My review of The Glitch (The Glitches #1)

CHARACTERS

The character development in the second installment of The Glitches is really wonderful to see. Lib, the protagonist did annoy me a bit at places but it was interesting to see her realizing her faults and evolving throughout the story.

The Empties does not focus on as many characters as The Glitch and I found many characters melting into the background. I did enjoy seeing new faces among The Tracker clan. I also enjoyed the fact that many questions I had pondered over after the first book were answered here. In this book, the readers are told more about the AI and her abilities.

PLOT

I think I liked the plot of The Empties even more than that of The Glitch and that is saying something considering the fact that The Glitch was a 5 star read for me! This series is really unique with it's slightly complicated but intriguing story. I enjoyed delving a little deeper into the relationships between The Tracker Clan members. I also enjoyed getting to know about the Norm and the world before the Norm. This book isn't as fast paced as The Glitch but there is so much more information in The Empties. But despite the fact that the book isn't fast paced, there is a sense of urgency as the people on the Outside are facing a huge threat to their existence.

WRITING

The book is extremely well written and as with The Glitch, the imagery is beautiful and I was completely pulled into the book. Despite the large amount of information provided in the book, there is no info dumping.

WHAT I LIKED ABOUT THE BOOK

-EVERYTHING

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE ABOUT THE BOOK

- NOTHING

WILL I BE READING THE NEXT BOOK IN THE SERIES?

A huge, resonating YES!

CONCLUSION

This series is a must read for those who love a dystopian world with advanced technology and an intriguing mystery.

The Empties is the second in a distopian series where the AI Connie, who runs the controlled environment where most humans live, is pitted against those who survive outside in the desert. At the end of the last book, The Glitches, Lib found out about Connie's plans to take "The Norm" and leave earth, taking all the natural resources with her. Now accepted as a part of the Clan, Lib throws herself headlong into defeating Connie, the AI, in the way that seems best to her, re-configuring the technology that comes from the Norm to make weapons and enhancements. Tension grows as some in the Clan oppose Lib's use of technology, blaming the technology for everything that goes wrong. As Lib continues to pursue answers in how to defeat the AI, her relationship with Wolf, the clan's head, is strained and she finds herself wanting to strike out again on her own - to solve the problem and make things right. However, what Lib has forgotten is that they are stronger together...

The Empties presents a unique distopian world with life-like, likable characters. The main character discovers much about herself in this novel and grows as a person... maybe not too much, but a little.

Still worth a read

This second book wondered around not going anywhere until almost the end. I'd still say it's worth a read but will have to see how the next one goes. So many authors can not do a decent job of writing a second book with the same excellence of the first just to stretch it to a third book. You would be so much better off just writing 2 great books rather than 1 great book and weak book and many times an unread 3rd book because you have lost your readers.

So many typos. Not enough plot movement in this in view of the weak characters. I'll still finish the series just to see what happens.

Unique and thought provoking

This series checks all of the boxes for fans of the dystopian, futuristic, and post apocalyptic genres, while bringing a unique idea. I love the characters and imagery. Every time real life interrupts my reading all I can think about is getting a minute to read just one more chapter. Definitely a must read for fans of this genre!

Great book

She is a natural story teller. The world she has created is 3-D and the characters are well rounded. I can't put it down which is why it gets 5 stars, some typos but nothing that takes away from the journey. It leaves your predictions in the dust each time you think you know the path. I will read more of Finn's work for sure.

I really liked this book. The story line was very good. However, it needed some editing.

Great second book

I really enjoy the author's writing style. There is more than enough action to keep me engaged and enough suspense to keep me guessing.

Beautiful end to a wonderful series

So sad it's over but if you haven't read the series put it on your to do list. Its a extremely easy read but it makes sense if the characters are almost back to being cave men. So take a day and read it. Its worth it

Captivating new series with an awesome main character who takes no prisoners. Lib lets nothing stand in her way in her quest and takes the reader on an interesting ride down memory lane as she sets out to discover her past. Intriguing back story and world building that will drag you in and only release you when you have finally turned the last page.
