I've loved books since I was 3, and the library was a highlight of my childhood. I've been fortunate to be able to find great joy in what others have written and sometimes to give this to readers. I follow my own muse, because it leads me on interesting adventures. I began my writing career with "Prism of the Night: A Biography of Anne Rice." I had a bestseller with "The Vampire Companion." Since then, I've published 69 books and over 2,500 articles, reviews and short stories. I have also been an executive producer for "Murder House Flip" and "BTK: Confession of a Serial Killer." From ghosts to vampires to serial killers, I have taken on a variety of dark subjects, mostly in crime and forensics. I hold graduate degrees in forensic psychology, clinical psychology, criminal justice, creative writing and philosophy. Currently, I teach forensic psychology and criminal justice at DeSales University. My books include "I Scream Man," "How to Catch a Killer", "Confession of a Serial Killer", "The Forensic Psychology of Criminal Minds", "The Mind of a Murderer", "The Human Predator: A Historical Chronicle of Serial Murder and Forensic Investigation", "Inside the Minds of Serial Killers", "Inside the Minds of Sexual Predators", and "Inside the Minds of Mass Murderers". My background in forensic studies positioned me to assist former FBI profiler John Douglas on his book, "The Cases that Haunt Us", and to co-write a book with former FBI profiler, Gregg McCrary, "The Unknown Darkness", as well as "Spree Killers" with Mark Safarik, "The Real Life of a Forensic Scientist" with Henry C. Lee, and "A Voice for the Dead" with James Starrs. I speak internationally about forensic psychology, forensic science, and serial murder, and has appeared on numerous documentaries, as well as such programs as The Today Show, 20/20, 48 Hours, NPR, Dr. Oz, Coast to Coast, Montel Williams, Larry King Live and E! True Hollywood. Currently, I'm working on a fiction series, The Nut Cracker Investigations, which features a female forensic psychologist who manages a PI agency. "I Scream Man" is the first one.

I am proud to admit "I love me some CSI" and forensic information. It was interesting to read the true events that influenced episodes of CSI. I liked how there were short chapters, each devoted to a particular episode. It was not terrribly tech. driven. But it wasn't meant to be a textbook.

Library only offered this book in large print version, which seemed very remedial--both physically as well as content. Takes some adjustment.

I was familiar with some of the cases, having followed them closely on Court TV when they occurred. They were covered fairly well here, so I have to trust the rest for veracity.

I especially enjoyed the little blurb in the beginning of each story: "C.S.I. version (for a program adaptation)", then an excerpt about the "real" story.

An interesting read but I do not think that she did a very good job editing. There were several mistakes (Like getting Jonestown 11 years off) and a few typos. Also I do not believe that she even watched the episodes as she had several synopses incorrect. Other then that it is entertaining.

I read the book true stories of the C.S.I. This book is a very good true crime book and is very interesting and was very hard to put down. This book is about the minds of criminals and investigators. You read different crime cases and learn throughout the book about different types of crimes and different ways that detectives solve these cases.

Many of the crimes portrayed on the show are based on real cases. All of the crimes in the book are actual real crimes that have been committed around the world. It is very interesting to explore the minds of the criminal and how highly skilled detectives solve these murderous cases.
Throughout the book, you read different cases that have happened around the world and you see how investigators solve the mysteries and how they are different from the television show.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves true crime and mysteries. This book was very entertaining and very mysterious. This is one of the best true crime books i have read and I have found it very interesting and very informational. This book is very good and I highly recommend reading it if you like crimes.

I love the TV show C.S.I. and I swear I watched every season like a gazillion times. So of course I had to read this book.

I honestly had no idea how many of the shows episodes where based on real cases. Cases I’ve never even heard about. Super interesting! I shall go down the google rabbit hole later.. 🤣

I do think the cases portrayed could’ve been more detailed in the book. It’s basically a summary of the cases. I wish there would’ve been more. That would’ve been amazing.

I loved how this book was set up, with a new chapter being a different case. It made it very easy to read in quick settings. I would have liked it more if the author went over more about the CSI episodes, like a reminder of how they twisted the real case to fit the plot as I forgot a lot of what happened in the episodes so it was hard to remember.

Katherine Tamsland has wrote a great book with many good stories in it that makes the reader think about the life outside of their safe little home. Ture stories of C.S.I. has many different cases written out that Ph.D's have had to go through and solve them. Each story gets your mind guessing on who was the killer or how the crime happened.
There are multiple different cases but ill write about one of my favorites. It happens to be the very first case which I think was a great idea because this case got me very attached to the book. There was a woman who had fallen down her stair way while her husband was home and blood was splattered all along the walls down the steps. The Ph.D's then helped solve the crime and who was the killer of who was in the house. The woman had gotten a knife jabbed in her before she fell down the steps and with them knowing that, they found out who the killer was. If this makes you wonder who it was, you should read this book.
If you like mystery books, books with voilence or both, this book is the right book for you. I would recomend this book to young adults or older due to the fact that there is killing and other things in this book. You will definetly love this book as the suspense builds up to who caused the crime. There will not be one thing in this book that disapoints you. If you like any kind of mystery, this is the book for you.

Katherine Ramsland has created an amazing book that I really like. These are true stories that have been made into TV episodes. True Stories of CSI is truly amazing at showing the thinking behind all of these cases.
There are many different people in this book that have truly gone through these situations, but have had their names changed for safety reasons. These cases are very interesting and very cool to be able to understand what the professionals are thinking and how they are figuring out. There are some cases that go unsolved so there are some cliffhangers and it makes you wonder what really happened.

I believe that young adults who are interested in crime tv shows, movies, and books/stories. There are many interesting stories in this book that transport you into the people's lives. This book really makes you think about what people are going through and how badly things are going. Overall this book really draws you in and makes you stop and think.

Are these just bizarre plot twists invented by a creative team of writers - or genuine headline-making stories? In True Stories of C.S.I., they're both, as renowned forensic specialist Katherine Ramsland revisits some of the most absorbing episodes of the phenomenally popular C.S.I. television franchise.
Katherine Ramsland follows the evidence and looks at some of the episodes, and explores the real-life crimes that inspired them. She also looks into the authenticity of the forensic investigations recreated for the dramatizations, and the painstaking real-life forensic process employed in every one of the actual cases. From notorious mass-murderer Richard Speck, to the massacre of Buddhist monks in an Arizona Temple, to a baffling case of apparent spontaneous combustion. I thought that the book was well written, but I just wish there had been a little bit more detail because some of the stories didn't have the same amount of detail as others.

I picked up this book because it looked interesting and there were a lot of the cases I had never heard of before, but many of them seemed like they were glossed over and not overly researched. Katherine ramsland can do much better.

A lot of these were famous cases molded to fit a CSI episode. Some of the episodes I remembered, but others I confused with the Law & Order episodes. Dick Wolf and Anthony Zuiker must be reading the same headlines.

Several accounts of the cases behind some of the CSI episodes. Only a few lines on the CSI t.v. episode it relates to and no new insights on the fairly well known cases. Feels a little bit like a cash in book.
