When his army helicopter crashes in the Himalayas, killing his comrades, Jordan Williams loses much more than his friends. He loses the use of his legs, and his bear. Two months later, he is transferred to Bear Bluff, where he grew up, but he isn’t interested in life. Not until Skyla walks into his hospital room.
She’s his mate. But how is he supposed to deal with that, when his life no longer makes sense? With his bear gone, and unable to walk, what kind of man is he? How can he provide for her like a bear shifter should?
He should just let her walk out of his life. Hell! If he had any sense, he would push her out of his life. However, in a short space of time, he realizes she is his own hope of salvation. She brightens up his world, which has become dark and soulless. Can this curvy woman pull him out of the darkness and back into the light?
Harmony Raines loves to write romance filled with magic and love. Her men are usually not so alpha, but they know how to treat their fated mates, or alien lovers well.

Just my way of saying thank you for giving my books a try.
There are times when a Shifter Romance is so much more than an entertaining Paranormal escape. Times when the author clearly gives us the character’s animal, but the focus is more on the human side – and the very real issues and difficulties that many people face. Black Bear Down is an excellent example of that blend of human and shifter animal in conflict in one man’s body.
Jordan has been injured in a helicopter crash that took the lives of his team. As the only survivor, he was badly injured enough that he could not help any members of his team, and that weighs heavily on him. To make his situation even worse, he cannot sense his bear any longer. Now paralyzed from the waist down, without his bear Jordan has no idea how to survive this accident. His doctors can find no physical reason why he cannot move – he’s not lying but he also cannot make his legs move no matter how hard he tries. He’s set to be discharged from the hospital with a nurse / therapist / caregiver to arrive any minute. One more blow to his already overloaded life – Skyla is his mate.
Skyla had always intended to one day move to Bear Bluff, this particular job made that dream come true – well, for a little while at least. She is human and had grown up with her best friend who was a Shifter, so she knew more than most about these amazing people. She’d also been there when he met his mate, and she so wanted that type of love for herself. Taking a gamble, she thought one day to move here and explore that possibility… never expecting to feel an instant bond with her new patient, a man who clearly knew what she was to him… and was doing his best to push her away. Not happening at all.
Black Bear Down touches on some very interesting aspects of a physical trauma that causes a temporary loss of sensation and movement and the physiological effects of that reality. Add in survivors guilt, and the loss of half of yourself in losing his bear and you can see the turmoil that Jordan is facing. Now he’s found his mate. How can he protect her and their children if he cannot call forth his bear. It’s an extremely interesting plot, well thought out and presented to us in Skyla and Jordan’s romance.
Watching Jordan work through all of this, the the growing bond with Skyla combined makes a lovely romance, an interesting story and a touch of reality that fits here in their story perfectly. I enjoyed this one, and would definitely recommend it to any Paranormal or Shifter Romance reader.

Jordan was in a Military Helicoptar accident, where everyone else died. Jordan lost the use of his legs and his bear. Skyler is his live in nurse and physical therapists. She walked in and they both recognized mate. Jordan through a hissy fit and said he didn't need her. Skyler told him that he is the center of her universe, get used to it. She took him to see his new home. He drove his VW that had been fit to work with his disabilities. The house was perfect. It was set to work for wheelchair access. Jordan liked the full length window in the downstairs bedroom. He could see his mountain. He liked it so much, he wanted to go back to the hospital. He wanted to be checked out and spend the night in the new home. Does he accept the life he has or work for more? Does he accept Skyler as his mate? Does he find his bear? I volunteered to review this ARC book using entirely my own opinion.
Sweet story with a much needed happily ever after.
Jordan is in desperate need of something to believe in again. After a military accident that took the lives of all his men, he has found himself without his bear or the use of his legs. Skyla is hired by the Army to be his nurse and help him to start rehabilitation. One look at her in the hospital and Jordan knows that he has met his mate.
This is a wonderful, short love story about two people getting through their own pain to find eternal happiness with each other.
I did not like how a paralysis medical issue was "overcome by love". Even if it was a mental block, it felt like this entire book trivialized ptsd, medical paralysis and mental health by making it something that could be "fixed" with emotion. Don't do that. There's a lot of work, effort, time and medical involvement that was just... swept under the rug for romance' sake. It was gross.
Wao! Fantastic read with a amazing storyline. Jordan is a bear shifter, a soldier and only survivor of a crash. He lost the use of his legs and he list his bear. He is a broken man with nothing to look forward to. Until he comes face to face with his fated mate that pushes him o try harder. Love this story. Highly recommended
I love the whole premise of the story, feeling lost from his bear and his legs and cock. seemed he used his original trauma and his brain couldn't let his bear or his legs be a part of him til he met his mate.
Black Bear Down (Return To Bear Bluff Book 3) by Harmony Raines. Surfing an army helicopter crash, Jordan has not only lost the use of his legs but can’t find his bear either. Then his caregiver Skyla turns out to be his mate. Will love conquer all.
To read this story really was something else. Jordan was lost to himself and to his bear. He just wanted to be left alone. Then Skyla enters his life and he hated that it had to be that moment when he found his mate. They were compliments to each other. It held great banter between the characters and a story that love surpasses all. Loved it.

CAN SKYLA HELP JORDAN GET PAST HIS ANGER AND FIND HIS BEAR?
Harmony Raines ROCKS!!!! She is the QUEEN of the PARANORMAL ROMANCE!!!!!! I love her work. “Black Bear Down” is about Jordan and Skyla and road to happiness. Jordan was in the army and his helicopter crashes and kills all his buddies except for him, but leaves him paralyzed, and his bear disappears. Two months after the crash he transferred to Bear Bluff where he grew up. Nothing matters to him anymore. He has given up on everything. Enter his new therapist Skyla, and BAM…. she is his mate. He ignores the attraction between them because there is no way he can support her since he can’t walk. Skyla is a therapist who takes care of special cases…. Shifters because she knows about them. When she first meets Jordan, she notices the odd look he is giving her. She wonders if the stories are true about shifters knowing who their mate is at first glance? She doesn’t want to get her hopes up, so she continues to treat him as a patient she is to help. But it isn’t long before Skyla start to realize that her feelings for him are more than that of a caring therapist. But what if she misread the signs and she isn’t his mate? Dare she hope? Jordan himself is starting to realize that she is his best hope to living life even if he can’t walk or feel his bear anymore. Can he dare hope? Can Skyla be the one to pull him out of his funk?
No Spoilers. Advanced Reader Copy read with sheer enjoyment!!!!
Jordan's first meeting with his mate was in a hospital bed.
Skyla was hired to help Jordan learn how to live independently since his legs no longer worked and he had lost his bear. But they found they were mates and life is crazy.

Ms Raines has done well writing a book that is about something too many people have had to deal with, survivors guilt, albeit lightly. A well written interesting story that deals with a disabled soldier who has lost the use of his legs and also seems to have lost his bear half as well. A double blow to any shifter male. Skyla arrives to be Jordan’s nurse therapist and turns out to be his mate. Jordan of course tries to deny this rather than tie Skyla down to a disabled man but her positive attitude helps Jordan to get back on a good path in his life. Lovely how Dylan was written into this story and the pass it on message was superb. Cannot wait to see what happens when we go to the ranch Jordan’s family lives on. This is my honest review of this book.
I have all of her books and got this one as soon as it came out. Like all of the others books in the series I fell in love with the characters and I love seeing old friends from her other series in every new book. You have to buy them all Bear Creek and Bear Bluff series and this new series from Bear Bluff. I can't wait for January's book release with the next one in the series. I found this author by accident and I am so very glad because I love her writing.
A stubborn patient but a more nurse who got your Timberlake a good story
Kayla might not be a bear shifter but she knew the instant she seen Jordan he was her mate. She's been around enough to know. That's why she took this job as a nurse to help rehabilitate them. Jordan didn't want her to be with a broken shifter. His bear was gone and he couldn't walk. He wondered why he was still alive and his comrades died when his helicopter went down. He could not save them. But fate had a way of saving him for his mate. This was a fast pace but a really good story.
A nurse comes to Bear Bluff to settle in an take charge of her patient little does she know she's about to get shocked when she connects with her patient by looking into his eyes an realizing he's much more to her .
A soldier injured in a helicopter crash doing humanitarian duty in the army . He's the only survivor an he feels guilty for surviving the crash . Psychological paralyzed from the waist down he receives a new nurse to help him to get healthier an stronger . 18+
I am a fairly new follower of Harmony Raines but I've loved every one of her books I've read so far. I can't say that about many authors. Add into the mix that her books are about bear shifters and I am newly hooked. Very well written and easy to follow.
Skyla and Jordan are perfect together. Jordan is broken and needs someone to put him back together. Skkyla is the one to do it. They work together to make that happen. They have a couple of bumps in the road. In the end it all works out. Can't wait to see what comes next.
What a truly heart warming story. This is another Harmony Raines hea's. If you have read any thing by her you know this is a keeper. If you are a new reader, you will love her work.
A very good story, liked that though she was human she knew immediately that they were mates. And the way he was able to get his mobility and bear back. Can't wait for the hot CowBears.
This was great! I loved it. So many have handicaps and we tend to give up. Once Skyla enters Jordan's world he doesn't give up. He hopes for a miracle. One that will return the use of his legs and his bear. A great story.
Another great book takes place in Bear Bluff. Where a Sergeant loses his mates in battle and his bear, or has he. He finds his mate, but is he ready to face his fears and let the bear out or will he keep him hidden in fear like he is hiding in life? Must read :-)
I loved it. This book was very entertaining and enjoyable. The story line was right up my alley with medicine versus love and what works best. Sex was pretty darn great too,
Love can move mountains or I should say legs.Skyla was Jordan's nurse. He was in an explosion in the war and lost the use of his legs.Little did they both know that forces of nature were hard at work to bring them together.Very well written love story.
Great book. Always a fan of our veterans. This is such a sweet story of a hero losing use of his legs because he survived and his comrades died. Of course true love not only wins the lady but he gets much more than his heart back.
Love this story, hard to read about the pain that he went through, but the love that came to both Jordan and Sky was so heat warming that it just made you feel the love and joy of their being mate's. Real nice read. Give it more that 5 Stars .
I couldn't believe how this book tugged at the heartstrings by dealing with a problem many face today, that of a soldier coming home from the war injured. While things turn out okay in this instance it does deal with how important it is to support our soldiers.
This was a great typical shifter story but it was way to short. Due to the length of it of course everything happened way to fast. I am glad it was only .99 because I would have been disappointed if not.
Out of all the books in this series, this my favorite. I felt like I was reading about a true story. Looking forward to the rest of the books and new one coming this month. I have all of the books that are in the Bear Bluff stories. Thank you for your wonderful stories.
