Silenced

Rate this book
As a young child, Killian Foster survives the unimaginable. Silenced and scarred, he keeps to himself, spending his time with his notebook in the woods behind his aunt’s house.

Until Rylee Anderson…

When Rylee spots Killian hopping over a fence next door, she follows him, unprepared for the boy she’d find—or the relationship that would unfold over the next seven years.

Or the silence that would follow.

Fighting between the hate of his past and the promise of his future, Killian must make choices—ones that would affect more than himself. Choices that would test the lines of right and wrong. Decisions that could break the bond of the only love Killian knew.

Hate or love.
Revenge or forgiveness.
Silence or his voice.

Leddy Harper had to use her imagination often as a child. She grew up the only girl in a house full of boys. At the age of fourteen, she decided to use that imagination and wrote her first book, and never stopped.

She often calls writing her therapy, using it as a way to deal with issues through the eyes of her characters.
The decision to publish her first book was made as a way of showing her children to go after whatever it is they want to. Love what you do and do it well. Most importantly Leddy wanted to teach them what it means to overcome their fears.

Leddy Harper delivered a touching, emotional tale that really broke, but also warmed my heart. A story about love, finding who you are, forgiveness and second chances, 'Silenced' is fast-paced, intense and gritty at times. I was lost in this story from the prologue and I couldn’t put it down for one minute. Leddy’s newest release will definitely make you feel.

“Being with her just gave me…happiness. Peace.”

Killian is just a little boy when his life is shattered. One night night changes him completely and he is left scarred, both physically and emotionally, choosing not to speak to anyone any longer. His aunt takes him in hoping for Killian to find some stability under her care. He keeps mostly to himself, preferring to draw…until he meets his next-door neighbor. When he meets Rylee, his life is turned upside down again in a way. He is drawn to her from the very first moment they meet, enjoying her comfort and company, liking how she talks with him without expecting for him to talk back. She never judges him, accepts him exactly like he is, without questions. The lovely, honest friendship between them blossoms into something more over the years, but everything between them changes when Killian turns seventeen and makes a decision that will change their lives completely.

Years later, Killian and Rylee meet again. Both of them have changed, both of them having so many regrets regarding their pasts. While for Rylee everything had changed between them years ago, for Killian nothing had changed. In his eyes Rylee still is still "the one" for him and he will do anything to have her back. But he has secrets that have the power to destroy everything that is good between them.

“If I could, I’d steal the moon from the sky. I’d still the earth and keep it from turning into day. I’d stay here with you, talking to you, listening to you…kissing you. Forever.”

I really liked this one! With an interesting premise, an engaging story-line and a well-developed plot, this wonderfully written story, like I mentioned above, sucked me in from the start. I liked the pace of it a lot and how the events unfolded. The story is gritty and angsty, but not overly so, at least for me. I liked how these two aspects were blended as the story progressed.

My favorite part of the story was the connection between the two main characters. It was fantastically done, so very touching and palpable. I liked their friendship as kids. They were so sweet, some scenes between them being so heart-warming. Even after so many years, the connection between them was very strong and tangible.

“You’re mine. (…) Always were, and always will be.”

The two main characters’ portrayal was well done. Both of them were flawed and, I think that’s why they felt so relatable. Killian was such a lost, tormented soul as a kid, but also as an adult. My heart broke for him at times and I felt his fear, his frustration and all his anger. It was such a tragedy what happened to him. I liked how he was with Rylee when he was just a little boy and later, as a man. Killian, the man, was as tortured as before and he loved Rylee as much as he loved her as a child and a teenager. I felt his love for her as much as Rylee and, even if at times, he felt like a little too much, I enjoyed his character a lot.

Rylee was simply wonderful. I loved how she accepted Killian when they met as kids, how he was there for him no matter what, how sweet and caring she was and how she simply listened even if Killian wasn’t "saying" anything.

“He took every ounce of oxygen around us until there wasn’t enough left for my brain to function properly. Logic didn’t exist. The where, when, how, why, wouldn’t translate. It was him and me. Me and him. No one else. Nothing else. Just us.”

All in all, 'Silenced' was an emotionally raw and heartbreakingly beautiful read! If you are looking for a unique, wonderfully written second chance at love story, don’t hesitate and pick this one up.

“We were one. Always had been. Always would be.”

I don’t really know what I expected when I started this book, I just wanted to just read a book to calm myself after a stressful day at work. No matter the case, I really enjoyed this one.

We all have scars, some internal where no one can see and others on the outside for the world to see. Killian has both. He has permanent wounds on the outside that anyone who looks at him can see but it’s the internal ones are where his real damage lies. Part of that pain also becomes apparent when Killian refuses to talk to anyone, ever. He just goes radio silent for years. I literally feel his pain seeping through the pages.

When he was only 8 years old he watched his parents being murdered and that changed him as it would do anyone else. Throughout the book you see this broken child through each and every part of who he is, even as an adult.

Rylee was everything you could want in a best friend and lover. She was caring, giving, understanding, loyal and non-judgemental. Rylee never asked Killian for anything he wasn’t willing to offer. Their relationship was pure. Rylee was Killian’s calm in that head of where so much pain lived. The honest friendship that they build is breathtaking and I was in awe. It was astonishing watching these two grow together. It’s the kind of love and friendship we all dream for but most of us never find.

They met as children, fell in lust as teenagers and fell in love they grew up together. It doesn’t get any better than that. Killian knew from the beginning that his forever was with Rylee, there were no if, and’s, or but’s about it. There was no Killian if there was no Rylee.

As Killian grew up he only communicated through writing so he carried around a notebook and pen whenever he went. When the two of them met, they literally get to know each other through paper. Kind of like us book lovers. Rylee never pushed for him to share his voice with her, but when he did… OMG! I wanted to cry myself. I felt like he had spoken to me.

Their conversations were just the cutest when they were growing up.

Have you ever kissed anyone before?

“No. Some of my friends have. But I haven’t. Have you?”

No. But sometimes I want to kiss you.

“Sometimes I want to kiss you, too.”

Is it bad if we kiss?

“I don’t think so.”

Then maybe someday I’ll kiss you. As long as you’re not grossed out by what I told you.

As their love grew, so did Killian’s inner demons, until one day those demons made him leave her, for five fucking years. I was so fucking livid with Killian for doing that to her. I wanted to smack the shit out of him.

After everything they went through and all the love that they shared for him to just up and leave one day. It was bullshit. And when they found each other again Killian at least realized that he could never leave Rylee again, but she wasn’t sure if her heart could take that risk again, but Rylee wasn’t trying to hear that shit.
“Too much time has passed, too much has happened between us. You hurt me too much. There’s no going back. Maybe had you come back a year ago…two, three years ago. But you didn’t. It’s too late now.” – Rylee

“You said you never wanted the next day to come. Well…congratulations, Killian. You stole the moon. You took it with you and left me with nothing be endless days without you. Time stood still, just like you wanted. Except instead of trapping us together, you left me alone.” – Rylee

Repairing a love that deep is no easy task and a huge part of me wondered the entire book if they could come back from that. I was just happy this book was done from both character’s POV, otherwise I don’t think I would have been able to fully understand Killian’s view of this. The man runs deep. Like really, really deep.

Their honesty to one other amazed me. I often find myself getting irritated with character’s when their drama could be easily fixed if someone just told the damn truth. In this book, the truth was always on the table, there were no secrets, which made Killian and Rylee’s love story so painful to read sometimes. I found myself thinking, “Well, if you didn’t tell them that you wouldn’t be in this situation.” But in the end it was that honesty and unfiltered acknowledge of their love that made me fall in love them more and more.

Killian loved the shit out of Rylee. No matter what he did to her, you knew that. That’s what made it so hard to be mad at him for his stupid choices and actions. Men are stupid – that’s a fact that no one can deny. Saying “I’m sorry” for the stupid shit you do doesn’t fix anything. As much as Killian loved Rylee, he hurt her just as much. The man who left her her 5 years ago looked nothing like the man who had returned.
“I’m sorry – “

“Don’t you dare apologize to me like one word could possibly make up for the years I had to face without you. I finally got to a point where I wasn’t dying, where I no longer felt like I was drowning in the pain of your absence. And here you are, bringing everything back. Bringing all the hurt to my front door. Well, no more, Killian. I won’t let you destroy me again.”

When they spoke to each other, I swear I felt like I was standing right there next to them feeling all of the pain they felt. That’s some amazing writing right there. Yeah…Leddy did her shit with this one. Hats off to you ma!

I like second chance romance books if they are done right. I’m not big on that whole – let me forgive them really quickly kind of thing or let me forgive a complete asshole kind of shit either. Silenced was neither of those. Killian did make an asshole move but Killian was broken and for good reason. His thought process was all fucked up. To him, he did Rylee a favor and even though we know he didn’t, knowing him helps you understand his frame of mind.

Rylee was so strong in such a quiet way. She wasn’t loud with her statements but her statements had huge impacts. I just adored everything about her and she was truly made for Killian.

This scene killed me…
“You’re killing me. Breaking me. I never thought in a million years, even after you walked away, that you’d be the one to smother the life out of me.” A hiccup got stuck in my chest. “You don’t love me, Killian. If you did, you never would’ve gone after them. You never would’ve believed you needed to get revenge in order to be whole. You’ve had your voice this entire time. They didn’t take it from you. You’re the one who silenced yourself.”

I felt that conversation in my soul. I felt like I was walking in on a very personal moment that I wasn’t allowed to be apart of.

Reading this review might seem like I gave away the story line but trust me, I didn’t. Their story goes way beyond the few paragraphs here. I am recommending this book to those book lovers who like a little anguish but not too much and a beautiful HEA.

Silenced will touch your heart in many ways. Once I started reading, I had a hard time stopping. Along with the characters, the writing is pure, delicate and so very touching.

This is a wonderfully written story about a boy, Killian, suffering the traumatic effects of a double murder and an attack that left his face scarred for life when he was eight years old, who has chosen not to speak since that horrible night. He meets a neighbor girl, Rylee. These two find solace in each other's company and a deep relationship develops that soon blossoms into romance. I felt the connection between them. She can calm him. They find themselves drawn to each other and are unable to stay apart. There’s something very beautiful about this couple. It’s like fate has put them together to be each other’s rock. Killian’s silence may seem like a challenge at first but I guess, it was the reason that made them much closer.

The storyline is good, not great, could use some work but still good. Loved how the two main characters evolved and most of all how their romance didn't seem forced, but genuine. Overall, the story sucked me in deep and didn't spit me out until I read the last word. It's not an easy story to read, dealing with dark subjects and two people who hold each other together. But it's a beautiful story of survival, bravery and love.

In short:
Hero 5/5 | Heroine 4/5 | Plot (Point, Originality) 4/5 | Writing Style 4/5 | Steam 4/5 | Romance 4/5 | Angst-Suspense 5/5 | Darkness 3/5 | Humor 0/5 | Secondary Characters 3/5 | Drama-Conflict 4/5 | Mystery 3/5 | Twists 4/5 | Pacing Steady | Action 4/5

Overall Opinion: This is a hard one for me to rate tbh. I liked it. I thought it was a unique second-chance type story. I just had some issue with the believability of it all, and I was really confused by the h's behavior when they reunited. BIG SPOILERS HERE, so please don't click if you don't want to chance it being ruined: . So, even though I did enjoy it at times -- I don't think I can justify giving it more than 3.5 stars.

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Rylee and Killian's story. They meet out in the woods outside their houses when they are kids. Killian experienced a really traumatic event that left him mute and living with his aunt, who happens to live next door to Rylee's family. They form an instant friendship, and through the years that friendship develops into love. There is something that causes them to separate for about 4 years, and they are reunited in an unexpected way. There is some past drama that comes up, some sexy times, and some sweet moments...and they do get a HEA ending.

POV: This alternated between Rylee and Killian's POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Good. I never skimmed, and I thought it flowed well.

Instalove: No, they've known each other since they were 9 and 11.

H rating: 3 stars. Killian. He was messed up because of his past, but he had a sweet way with the h. I did feel like he was motivated with his other head a little too much at times.

h rating: 2 stars. Rylee. She was ok, but she really confused me and even ticked me off when she pushed the H away so much and stayed with the OM.

Sadness level: Low, no tissues needed (but does cover some heavy issues)

Push/Pull: Yes

Heat level: Good. They have some good tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story.

Descriptive sex: Yes

Safe sex: Not really

OW/OM drama: Yes

Sex scene with OW or OM: No descriptive scene

Cheating: Yes

Separation: Yes

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This had pretty good closure. It had a cute epilogue with a HEA ending.

How I got it: It was part of my kindle unlimited subscription.

Safety: This one is a tough one, but I would say that it'll probably be either Safe with exception or Not Safe for most readers depending on personal preferences.

SILENCED: Killian Foster at the tender age of 8 was diagnosed by the school’s counsellor as having a photographic memory, his parents tried everything from pills, therapy, art classes to medicine to make him better, but nothing seemed to work.

A night that will forever be cemented on his mind at 11.20pm on on a school night he’s startled from near sleep from a thud and a scream from his mother, getting out of bed and making his way to his parents room and opening the door will forever be etched on his mind, a scene that will forever haunt him..

Now he’s living with his twenty six year old aunty Elise

They took so much from me. My parents. My childhood. My voice.

(Aged 11) After witnessing the gruesome double murder of his parents at the age of eight, Killian’s life is forever shrouded in silence, he has withdrawn into himself, due to the severe scarring on his face scars on his cheeks, they start from the corners of his mouth and extend towards his jaw about two inches on either side, creating an illusion of a smile he communicates via the written word on a notebook that is always by his side. He has no friends, until one neighbour befriends him these two have such a beautiful bond, she calms all his anxieties down and in it’s place creates happiness and a feeling of peace.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic I’ve moved around a lot, and not many people want to be friends with someone who looks like me. I scare everyone away.

Now and then he would leave letters tacked outside her bedroom window, shorts notes telling her about a dream he may have had or something he saw that day that he wanted to share with her, now and then he’d even draw her pictures from his memory.

If I could, I’d steal the moon from the sky. I’d still the earth and keep it from turning into day. I’d stay here with you, taking to you, listening to you…kissing you.

(Aged 13) This brought such profound sadness, a boy lost in his own head, scared of the changes his body was going through, thinking something was wrong with him, through words written down his friend calmed him and set his mind at ease about the birds and the bees in her own words.

A first kiss followed by many more

(Aged 15) Slowly we see a scared mute boy come into himself as he gets older, his one constant companion Rylee by his side, they share their first kiss, their first love, they lose their virginity together

(Aged 18) Then at the age of eighteen when things become too much for Killian after begging Riley to run away with him and her declining he takes off in the dead of the night. Heart broken and left behind Riley struggles to forget the boy from next door.

FIVE YEARS LATER: The only thing if I was being ultra picky about this book would be the 5 year gap when he’d walked away from Riley, he still hadn’t progressed to how I would’ve liked him to have. His communication level was still non existent, at this stage in the book I was hoping for more, not only on a personal level for himself but emotionally & professionally being that he was in his 20’s at this stage I was hoping that he’d made something of himself.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic You’ve been mine since the day you followed me into the woods. And no matter what you say and do, you’ll always be mine. I’ve loved you since the moment I laid eyes on you and I’ll never stop.

The storyline flowed perfectly, flitted through the ages from eight to twenty three effortlessly, spoken in ‘Dual Perspectives’ Overall I would highly recommend this, in some ways you could state that it’s a second chance romance, after many years apart these two find themselves back to each other again.

Silenced is the heart-wrenching story of Killian, who's life was changed the night he saw his parents murdered. The same night he stopped talking and walked away with scars on his face. He was moved in with his aunt when no other family could take care of him and that's when his life changed yet again. When he met Rylee.
"If I could, I’d steal the moon from the sky. I’d still the earth and keep it from turning into day. I’d stay here with you, taking to you, listening to you…kissing you."

The story progresses from when Killian and Rylee are young and then skips five years after they turn 18 and have a bit of a falling out. I liked that we got to see their relationship prgress from childhood friends to more and it was really intriguing to read. I honeslty don't think I've ever read a book that was that involved in the main characters' younger years, but I'm a fan of how this author did that.

I do have to say though, the book lost my interest just a little after that time jump when I was trying to pick back up with the characters and their lived. Though for Killian, his character wasn't much different.

I don't want to say too much about this book because I feel like it's something best experienced without too much prior knowledge of what's to come. What I will say is that I think if you can handle a little darkness, then this is a story you really need to pick up. It was captivatingly haunting to watch these character grow together in the wake of destruction and I'm so glad I got to experience their story.

I was nervous about this book. I read one Leddy Harper book and LOVED it and I read one and hated it. I love angst and Harper knows how to write a pull-your-hair out book, so I went into Silence cautiously.

I didn't know anything about this book except for the fact I knew the author and I liked the cover.

The first 50% of the book

The book was broken into two parts in my opinion. The first 50% was the two main character's when they were younger.

Killian is a troubled boy. He witnessed his parent's murder and ever since then he hasn't been able to speak. Not only he can't speak he has a scar on his face because of it. I really enjoyed Killian's character. I found him really complex and you just wanted to wrap him up in a big hug and never let him go. He's sweet, he's troubled and very lovable.

Rylee is the girl next door and she and Killian become fast friends at the age 11 and 10. From there they seek each other out and soon realize they need each other than they knew. Honestly the first half of the book was my favorite part. I love young romance and I love the relationship between Killian and Rylee. I felt like this part was 5 stars for me.

The second 50% of the book

The second half of the book everything shifts and this is when things get serious. The two characters aren't young and innocent and there are more problems.

All the angst was in the second half of the book. I was okay with this, but what frustrated me the most was the Heroine. I couldn't understand some of her actions and at some parts I felt like she was really hard on Killian. It was as if she didn't understand where he was coming from.

Even though they had issues what I enjoyed most about this book was the love the two had for each other. Gah, that was the most romantic aspect of the book. I love the over-the-top you-are-mine kind of love.

Overall, I really enjoyed Silenced and I will continue to read more Leddy Harper's books.

The beginning of Silenced is promising. With a broken hero and young heroine who saved his days. I thought it will be epic.

The story continues until they are adult. Only then everything goes downhill. The push and pull between Killian and Rylee is just annoying. Miss Harper does not give us a glimpse of why/ reaaon for their push and pull.

I lost interest toward the end. The ending is also absurb and rushed.

Well, moving on. It is going to be slow to posying another review due to lockdown.

"If I could've, I would've stolen the moon from the sky.
Held it hostage.
And kept her with me."

Bravo to a woman who never ceases to amaze me!! Leddy, hands down to your versatility and talent as an author. Having been following your career and books, every releases shows how you keep getting better and better at what you do. Silenced  proved that. This book broke me and healed me. Thanks to your writing, you really awaken my deepest emotions.  But then again.... give me a warning will 'ya? Just a BEWARE will suffice!!! You might be laughing that evil laugh of your's right now... go laugh at your victory, because even with unexpected scenes and the tears I shed what with emotional torture I experienced, I admit I am so in love with this story. It topped my love for Eminent Love.

True, I love this book so much and I might have been bracing myself reading this book, because as a Leddy fan, this woman is just so hell bent on making me cry. However though, with the course of my journey with Rylee and Killian, I never expected the turn of the events. I cried both tears of joy and sadness, I was on the edge reading page after page and I ached for a man that has been damaged and broken form the events of the past, trying to let go of it, finding himself again on the ways he only knew. Safe to say, with Silenced I was on a roller coaster ride of emotions.

First few pages, and it had me captivated with the story. That Prologue, had me even gripping my reader wanting to turn the pages fast enough because I cannot contain my will to know the rest of the story. Started narrating when they were kids, I love how every scenes was written in a way that made me love the characters immediately. I appreciated that we were given opportunity to know the characters well enough when they were young, not just getting glimpses but fully given how the story started, the significant events, everything and I mean everything we wanted so we can appreciate more the story as it progresses. And even then, I ached for Killian,  I ached for a child that has been with a traumatic experience any child doesn't deserve. I feel the pain and it hurts so much but I was given hope through Rylee. My God, this kid had me wanting to bottle her up. I love that she complemented Killian so much. I love how she make his walls crumble. They were just a pair and filthy as it seems I have been rooting for this kids even when they were still young. Damn Leddy for portraying such forbidden and taboo scenes with these kid that even how wrongly people will see it, she has written it artfully and holy hell I enjoyed their scenes so much.

But please don't get me started with the rest, because that's one hell of another story better read than me spoiling you. Scenes are way hotter and filthy and it had me guessing and looking for answers because with every turn of the pages is another intense and raw scenes.  But what really made me love with this story aside from how it is flawlessly written is the growth of both the characters. It was portrayed perfectly and even with flaws, these characters journey, their history, how they surpass every bumps in the road is heart warming and awe inspiring. I admit, I have been so broken really, I just really cannot fathom a tragedy and event that will definitely scar us for life. That's why reading this book had me wanting to really root for their happiness. Had me wanting for a closure and had me wanting to please oh please heal a broken heart and a damage soul. Greatly, Leddy did that and what an amazing resolution and closure it was.I may have been broken but in the end I was fixed.

And oh, that cover!!! Whoa!! I am a cover hoe, but damn!!! That masterpiece!!!It speaks so much about the story. I've been so curious about it even then, and when I finish reading the book, everything just made more sense. It's so beautiful and once you read the story you'll appreciate it even more.

To sum up, Silenced is a beautiful story, poignant, raw, angtsy, heartbreaking but will definitely leave you with heart warming feels. It is not just about a story of love but a persons growth and healing so beautifully and artfully written with sexiness and heat.
“I’m impossibly yours.”“Always.”“And forever,” I added.
“Until the sun stops rising in the east.”
“And stops setting in the west.” She took my hand in hers.
“I love you.”
I had it all. Everything. Whether I deserved it or not, I had it.

"My heart needed her, and hers needed me. She was the air I required to breathe, the nourishment my body demanded to keep going, the strength that kept me alive. She was the reason for everything I did. Whether she ever believed that or not didn’t change the truth."

Surely it’s not the last time I read Harper’s books! I enjoyed this one and it was interesting. Everything was perfect. It was a little fast-paced but it was more than okay with me!

When Killian was eight-year-old, his parents brutally murdered. They scarred Killian and silenced him. Three years later, he met Rylee. Their relationship quickly took shape. It was an easy relationship and they were good to each other. They learn every thing with each other. But when Killian was eighteen-year-old he put her behind and went away to find his voice. He needed to find it. now after five years, they meet each other again but every thing has changed. She has moved on and he has secrets that can’t tell any one.

I really loved both characters. Actually, I adored them. They were well-defined. The story is well-written and I recommend it to every on!

Oh well this book was plain amazing. Really.

It was my first Harper book, so naturally I was kind of intrigued by the blurb when I first saw it, and dove right into it when it came on my kindle. I have to say- she delivered.

The very beginning of the book struck us with a tragedy, and we kind of had an inkling about what had happened, but it wasn't until later into the book that we are given a clear picture of the horror that Killian had witnessed on that fateful day.

Which brings us to Killian.

The first time we meet him, he's just an eight-year-old baby trying to come to terms with the fact that he had a photographic memory- which we soon learn becomes his curse. The chapter abruptly ends when he walks into his parent's room, and the next time we see him, he's an 11-year old boy with scars on his face, and no voice.

And raise the curtains for Rylee.

She's a 10-year old introvert who sees Killian and is completely intrigued by him. As a child, I really loved her because she never judged Killian, and never forced him to talk or mocked him. She just accepted him and loved him for who he was.

It was a childhood romance story- they both develop a friendship which then slowly morphs into romantic love as they grow up. Those are always beautiful to watch/read. But this was better, because you are not only treated with the golden sweet moments of a budding love, but also the scary parts of it- the hesitation of a new relationship and the terrifying moments when you discover your sexuality as a teenager. And as one, I really related to those feelings Rylee had.

Rylee's constant support and love allows Killian to speak, if only just with her for years. But even then, she was shielded by Killian from the true horrors of his past.

And man was his past haunting.

It's never easy to deal with such a past, but add a scarred face, and teenage hormones to the mix and you've got yourself a really insecure boy with attachment issues. And that was exactly what happened to Killian. He was scared of forming any bonds with anyone other than Rylee, and because of that, he never spoke about his past to anyone.

Until all that suppressed rage came bubbling over and he left-his home, his aunt and Rylee- burning with revenge.

The story fast forwards to 5 years and we see a grown-up Rylee in a kind of abusive relationship with a boxer named Josh. And god did I hate Josh. He was literally an asshole and Harper made me hate him from the very first time his name was mentioned in the book. And trust me, I didn't just hate him because he was the side relationship that was stopping Rylee from going back to Killian, no, I genuinely hated him because honestly there were nothing good about him. At least not one that Rylee saw. So it was a real frustrating thing as to why she stuck with him- especially when Killian comes back.

And come back he does, a completely changed man, and I kind of hurt because the last time we saw him he was just a kid with ghosts in his eyes. But 5 years later, he grows up into a real alpha, possessive jerk who wants whats supposedly "his" back.

I had a love-hate relationship with this part of the book. I kind of really loved Killian because I'm a total sucker for alpha tormented assholes such as himself, and at the same time I was really frustrated with Rylee because she she kept rejecting Killian for Josh (who was also an asshole but I didn't like him one bit), even more when it became apparent that she was in a relationship with a man who obviously did not respect her.

I couldn't bring myself to like Josh, even when we come to know of his sob-story. Something about him always felt off to me, and it was a complete surprise that Rylee never saw it until the very end.

But the ending was really good, exactly what I wanted and expected. The way all those secrets came out, and the manner in which everything unfolded was a complete joy to read. I desperately wanted an HEA for Killian, because it felt like it was long over-due and I couldn't be happier with the way Harper concluded the book.

This book is a must read if you want to read something sweet, with a tormented hero, and come of age story. Harper's writing was enthralling and pulled you right in, unwilling to let you go up until the very end.

Ohhh my goodness Leddy Harper!!! You captured my heart, shattered it and pieced it back together one piece at a time. That prologue gutted me and I knew I wouldn't be the same!!

Killian's life was forever changed in one night and because of the pain and loss he experienced it causes him to become a different person. Yet little did he know that being different would bring her into his life and would help to heal the pain that he's experiencing.

Rylee's life is as normal as normal can be...that is until that one hot day that Killian appeared on her radar and forever changed her way of viewing life.

I loved how patient Rylee was with Killian and his stubbornness. Though he thought that she would turn away once she took one look at him he was completely shocked to see that she wanted to get to know him, the "real Killian". Seeing them grow up and make memories that belonged to them only brought a big smile to me and I knew it would be okay, until it wasn't!!

Killian & Rylee's story was beautiful & unique like their names. The experienced so much together that I knew what they had would help them heal and return to each other. I don't want to give more than I have to about this beautiful story.

Be ready & hang on because this will be a bumpy ride and you will want to throw your tablet a couple of times!

Ms. Harper, your stories are absolutely breathtaking. Thank you for sharing them with us and allowing us to get lost in them! -Kara, 6 Stars <3

ARC kindly provided by author VIA Give Me Books Promotions in exchange for my honest review.

This book will probably be in my top 5 for this year even though it's only January.
Silenced could possibly be Leddy's best work so far. Seriously, she is the BOMB!
I have a huge book hangover.
I can't stop thinking about this story of love, heartbreak, second chances and redemption.

Don't read the blurb. Just go for it, you won't be sorry.
Yes, it has some dark scenes, and they were not easy to process, but this book is so freaking amazing!
I kept flipping the pages like a mad man. I couldn't get enough of it. I literally devoured it.
There is trauma, awful trauma no child should ever experience.
First few chapters take us back to the time Killian and Rylee met. She was a normal 8 year old kid, and he was her first door neighbour. From the first page, you realize that he is different. Home schooled child who won't talk, likes to draw and has some pretty bad scaring on his face. But although he has visible scars on the outside, ones on the inside are much deeper.
They become inseparable, and Rylee becomes only person he talks to.
Over time, their relationship becomes so much more... and they fall in love.
I don' want to reveal anything else, you just have to read it!
At one point there was so many twist and turns, it kept me on the edge of my seat.
It was just so many emotions packed in one book.

I highly recommend it!

***** 4 Stars *****

When Killian was a young boy, he witnessed his parents being murdered in his childhood home. On that horrific night, one of the murderers left him with a Glasgow smile and told him to be silent.

Ever since then, Killian didn't speak to anyone and only communicated by hand written messages. None of the kids wanted to be near him because of his scar. But Rylee changed his life. She was the only person he'd talk to. She was the only person that had his complete trust.

Killian and Rylee grew up together and became sexually involved, but Killian knew that in order for him and Rylee to have a future, he needed to find his voice. So he leaves her while she was still finishing up high school.

Rylee doesn't hear from Killian for 5 years. She has a new boyfriend that is into competitive fighting, and her heart is finally healing. Her life freezes when she realizes that Killian is another fighter going against her boyfriend.

I really liked this second chance romance. The story was erotic and steamy. The only thing that had me a little disappointed was Killian's method of finding justice. I feel like the 5 years apart was unnecessary and could have all been avoided.

"If I could’ve, I would’ve stolen the moon from the sky. Held it hostage. And kept her with me."

WOW! What a heart-breaking, tragic tale of revenge and everlasting love! A breath-taking love story that will fill you up.

I close this book with tears running down my face, fluttering in my stomach, and goosebumps down my legs. I fell in love, absorbing these characters with all my heart. This Isn't my usual genre. I have never read this author before. I clicked this book simply because of the cover. TBH I didn't read the blurb. OMG! I'm so glad I took a chance.

There's a connection from the start, it's a build-up that had butterflies in my belly. The innocence. The growth. The passion. Gawd, you'll have to feel this story for yourself. I mean, I'm not big on romance, but this book made me wish for the stars and moon. IT WAS BEAUTIFUL! It's a bumpy road, angsty at times, and a hint of dark. I need that slap in my books and I got it. Love is never easy when revenge is clouding judgement.

I don't like to compare books, but if you liked Archer's Voice by Mia Sheridan or Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover, you'll definitely love this one. It pulls you in, touches your heart, and leaves an lasting impression.

From day one, Killian and Rylee have always loved each other. Their connection was always simple and without words. They just understood each other.

As each day together grew a kindred spirit between Killian and Rylee, she also learns why Killian doesn't speak. Killian witnessed and survived the horrible murders of his mom and dad. A murder that would haunt Killian for most of his life. A life that he lived inside himself to try and fight of the demeons that horrible night plagues him with.

Rylee always being the shining light for Killian stands by his side, never pushing for information Killian is not ready to give. Never pushing to make him into the person he is not ready to become.

After years together, Killian is at a standstill in life and knows he has to move on. But Rylee can't leave and Killian can't stay.

"I realize I am your secret. I'm still stuck in this hole, the endlss abyss of reminders. I need to escape."

Before goodbyes can be said, they are interrupted and Killian takes off and just like that, the life both had planned for each other is gone.

Moving on 5 years, Killian and Rylee meet again and life for the both of them is about to shaken to ground with revealed secrets and truths that will be hard for either to grasp on to, until one miracle changes the way things are looked at.

This was so good! It was emotional, steamy and a little suspenseful with twists and turns I didn't see coming. I really loved Killian - he was a really unique hero - he was hurt and his story is heartbreaking. I liked Rylee but she did frustrate me at times. I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read more by this author.

Silenced. What does that word mean to you? I guarantee it means something quite different to a child who has witnessed a horrific event.

No spoilers... Not the way I roll. I will say, this is a dual POV novel, that spans years in the lifetimes of our main characters. You'll grow up right along with them. Ms. Harper has a knack for getting us right into the head space of our hero and heroine; although, sometimes you almost don't want to be there- because it's a dark and painful place to be. You'll be happy, mad, sad... uh, excited... *wink, wink*

Not a paint by numbers romance, thank the Gods! I love that she keeps us guessing and never lets things be too predictable. And let me be perfectly clear, this book, was far from predictable. I don't think I *ever* would have guessed from the beginning chapters where we would end up at the end of the book...and that is definitely saying something!

Loved this one, it hooked me right from the heartbreaking beginning where Killian endures a horror no child should have to witness and suffer. The friends to lovers story between Killian and Rylee from children through to their late teens was so, so sweet.

There's a long separation which I totally got - he needed to pull his life together so he could move forward instead of living his childhood horror over and over again. I love how the author did this, but what I didn't like is Rylee. What the hell?? She went from this strong and supportive child/teenager to a bloody plonker of an adult. Seriously?? Until her crass stupidity at the whole Josh fiasco this was definitely going to be a 5 star read.

My favorite Leddy Harper book has always been Lust, hands down, no question about it - Lust topped the chart for me...until Silenced. I have adamantly refused to relinquish the number one slot to any other LH book. Then came Killian and I was lost. This is the most out of the box book I've ever had the pleasure of reading. It's beautiful, poignant, and will make you want to rip your hair out and in the next breath have you desperate for healing. If you never read another book, put this at the top of your TBR list. Don't pass go, don't collect two hundred dollars--just get the book!

Silenced by Leddy Harper
5 ⭐️ Read

Emotionally Raw, intense, and heartbreakingly beautiful. An absolute masterpiece, that I could not put down.

I have tears in my eyes.

Silenced is one of those books that I will never forget. A story that has touched my heart, and it will always have a special place there. When I heard about this book, I could not wait to read it. I just knew this would be a highly emotional read for me, so I went in blind, didn't read the blurb....nothing. When it landed on my tablet, I dived right in. Killian and Rylee's story have left a huge mark on me.

Killian was a young boy who was very unique. He experienced the worst kind of tragedy you can put on a kid. He stopped talking, and living. Going day by day alone.

That is except for Rylee.
His one and only. His everything.
She is the one to pull Killian from the darkness.

Together they are stronger.

Silenced is a love story about letting the past go and finally start living again. So much heartache and sadness.

Killian - your story broke my heart! I want to grab you from within these pages, hold you tight, and stroke your hair until you believe that everything's going to be okay! But, I guess that's what you've got Rylee for! I gobbled this book up in less than 24 hours, and although the story wasn't perfect, it had everything I love - a broken man, a bright as sunshine heroine, angst, impossible situations, something driving the two apart, and a nice little twist (that I truly did NOT see coming and sat there dumbfounded for a few minutes while I chastised myself for not figuring it out).

I've read a few books from this author and this was certainly my favourite to date.

At the start although I thought it started brilliantly I wasn't too keen that it started with the main characters being so young (this is only my opinion and doesn't take anything from the story). However I had faith in the author and read on. I found myself absorbing the words and forgetting that I wasn't keen on the age at the beginning.

My heart broke for Killian. His story wasn't an easy one and he wasn't dealing with it very well. Until Rylee. She changed everything and gave him a reason to live. Unfortunately his past was holding him back and happiness seemed so far away. That is until fate stepped in. Can Killian be strong enough for both of them?

I was amazed at the way this story went. I had quite a few omg moments and did actually grab the alcohol. I had goosebumps reading parts of this story.

This was written in such a way that I couldn't put it down. I read this in an afternoon and enjoyed every word of it. I'm looking forward to seeing what else this author comes up with. I loved this story.

I loved this one so so much. This book is amazing tbh. Been long since i read something that had me staying up the night to finish. This book has everything right, the characters, the plot, the language, the turning of events, everything. I liked leddy harper style, and this one is quite captivating. If I wasn't busy with uni work, i'd have have finished it in mere days.
4.5/5 bc i felt the characters were extremely sexually active lol!

This book started out promising, I easily felt the characters in the story, especially Killian. Scarred from what happened, I totally get it why he acted the way he did. Because he was still a child.

However, as he became an adult, then I couldn't understand why he continued to do so. Granted that it was because of the past... as a child, I understand. As an adult, ummm no!

When they were kids, I enjoyed the time they spent together. As teens, well all they ever did was play around as they continue to explore their sexual preference.

I'll be honest that from then on, I was not that invested anymore. Also, as they became an adult, I cannot help but notice that there were less talk and then they have sex. It was tiring.

No need to guess "the who" as it was a given. I'm also not that sold to the idea of what "actually happened" between the bad guys. Rather, it only make my eyes roll because of its coincidence.

Silenced is a heartbreaking and gut wrenchingly tragic in parts, A story of a broken boy living with a heartbreaking past and also has the scars to prove it, and the best friend he finds comfort with next door.

Living with his aunt, Killian's only means of communication is writing everything down in a sketchpad, when he befriends the girl next door Rylee, a wonderful friendship and love begin to blossom.

An emotionally charged story of survival, bravery and love. It tugs on the heart strings and it made it so easy to fall in love with Killian and Rylee and I'm sure I had glassy eyes from time to time. A beautifully well written story by Leddy.
