*I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.*
I wanted to like this book, I really did, I just couldn't get into the characters. Ethan I disliked from the very beginning, while I felt for Violet. Maybe I want a fairytale instead of real life, but I'd like to think that two people who are really, truly in love are willing to do whatever it takes to make their relationship work. Ethan was completely unwilling. Violet got accepted into a Master's program, which meant that she wasn't going to be able to follow Ethan and his band around. What does Ethan do when she tells him about her acceptance into a really fantastic school/program? He throws a temper tantrum. Violet even suggests how they could work. She'd still be able to spend some of the summer with him and the band, then she'd have to go to school, but she could visit him on breaks and he could visit her. She had it all thought/planned out. Ethan, however, was having none of it and gave her an ultimatum. Either she lives his dream or walks away and lives her own. Personally, I'd have thrown up a peace sign and walked out the door and moved on with my life. I get that this was a second chance love story, but the reason for the breakup, to me, didn't have me wishing they'd get back together. It was due to an adult who didn't get his way. I didn't feel like Ethan ever really loved Violet, because what does he do? Goes out and bangs any woman that shows interest. I get it, everyone deals with things in their own way, but it just reaffirmed to me that he needed to grow up and I spent a large portion of the book wishing Violet would find someone who deserves her. He redeems himself in the end, but I felt like it was too little, too late.
I gave the book three stars because I absolutely loved the supporting characters. I think this may actually be my least favorite book in the series. And yes, I plan to read the rest. I'm looking forward to Kit's story, which is coming next. This was the first book I read by Crystal Caswell, but it won't be my last. She's a good author, this book just didn't do it for me, mainly due to the main characters.
