Cinema and the Invention of Modern Life

Rate this book
Casting aside the traditional conception of film as an outgrowth of photography, theater, and the novel, the essays in this volume reassess the relationship between the emergence of film and the broader culture of modernity. Contributors, leading scholars in film and cultural studies, link the popularity of cinema in the late nineteenth century to emerging cultural phenomena such as window shopping, mail-order catalogs, and wax museums.

kniha by sa mala volať modern life and the invention of cinema lebo cinema bolo v knihe zmienené o 70% menej než by človek vôbec čakal od tejto knihy.
polku som prečítala s plným vedomím a so sklamanim. tu druhú som radšej preletela.

This book is an excellent, comprehensive account of the ways in which photography, film, the image, and the scholarly critiques of each have helped mould our culture. To its credit, this book is too detailed (yet clean) to spoil with simplification. If you're into film theory and/or cumm studies, this would be a great read. Otherwise, it might seem a bit dry and academic.
