A letter to Rod Stewart resulting in a Cinderella birthday for her daughter sowed the seeds of New York Times and USAToday bestselling author Jean Brashear's writing career. A lifelong avid reader, at the age of forty-five with no experience and no training, she decided to see if she could write a book. It was a wild leap that turned her whole life upside down, but she would tell you that though she's never been more terrified, she's never felt more exhilarated or more alive. She's an ardent proponent of not putting off your dreams until that elusive 'someday'—take that leap now.
Over fifty published novels later, the five-time RITA finalist and RTBookReviews Career Achievement Award winner has accumulated a whole passel of war stories to swap and loves nothing better than talking writing and books with readers and fellow writers.
And she'd still take that leap, war wounds and all.
There were 4 books in this box. Three books starting a series about the Gallaghers of Sweetgrass Springs, a very small town in Texas and the 4th book was a Christmas novella about the same town and people. Discovered this is a big series. Don't know how many books are in it but I did purchase a couple more of this because I do like series. Will read them and decide if I want to get more. They are light and easy reading. First book was about the 70 something owner of the cafe in the town that is dying and she is fighting to save it. Her daughter ran away from the town when she was 18 and she never heard from her again but her granddaughter she did not know she had showed up. She had just found out when her mom died she had relatives. They are not long novels, about 200 pages long but I did enjoy them.
Jean Brashear is a new to me author. I happened to pick up this boxed set of Come Home To Sweetgrass at a great sale price. I normally don't care to buy my books in sets like this, but 1) the deal was too good to pass up, and 2) the books were set in my beloved home state of Texas. Every book was enjoyable and definitely kept me turning the pages. I laughed and shed tears in each one. Only complaint is that the free Christmas novella at the end is actually a huge spoiler if you haven't read more than those first three Gallaghers of Sweetgrass. I am one who hasn't, although I still definitely plan to. Besides, I had already guessed part of the spoiler. LOL
A young woman discovers her grandmother and runs to her when her life is in danger. They have a common talent, a love of cooking. Her grandmother is the heart of a dying town. Can she help, can she love the cowboy, can she accept help, and can she stop running. Two others in the town find love too and a family.
What a great series of books. Heartwarming, I laughed and cried. Cheered them on. God Bless Ruby for saving the town...well it was great to see everyone working together like the good old days to save the town and help others with their homestead. I can't wait to read Jean's other books.
Please see my review above. Love Jean's books the Sweet grass boxed set was spectacular. I laughed and cried. Heartwarming to say the least. I can't wait to read more.
This is 3 books packaged as 1. 3 love stories of family, love discovered, love lost and refound, and pain transmuted into joy. Each of the 3 couples in these stories start from pain and loneliness and discover family and it's meaning. Through it all is small town Texas and the ties that join them all together.
I might have preferred a different combination of Jean Brasher's book in this package, but each of the books brings a relationship to each other that is quite satisfying. I think I'll go on to read more of her Texas series.
