Fans of post-apocalyptic science fiction and zombie movies are going to love this sci fi comedy with a little bit of heart.
After the world collapses when a zombie plague sweeps the nation, a three time father has two choices. Stay hiding in his house or go hunt for his children with their mother and step-father just to make sure they're safe.
How tragic would it be if you had no idea what happened to your kids when a disaster occurred? No amount of survivalist training can prepare you for a break down in society when all the tools we use to stay in touch are no longer available.
When Dad decides to take off from Florida to Arkansas to check on the safety of his children, he discovers Z aren't the only awful things left in the world. The survivors are just as ruthless, just as deadly and the only way to really survive is with off the cuff gallows humor.
Fast paced with laugh out loud moments and maybe even a sniffle or two this book would be good for fans of Harry Dresden, even if there are walking dead involved.
This is the first in a series of six books about a Dad's hunt for his kids and answers after the end of the world. If you head over to Chrislowrybooks.com, you can sign up for a free sci fi novel and get all the latest release details
He hadn’t been the model husband-twice, nor was he the perfect Dad, but this average Joe will become a man on a mission when the Zgeddon strikes and the world as we know it no longer exists. Get ready to fight zombies, the neighbors and a crazed military faction alongside a ragtag group of survivors as our hero recounts his journey to find his children and keep them safe, if it isn’t too late.
No, we aren’t talking about an over-the-top, trained warrior, we are talking about a rather sarcastic, yet painfully realistic accidental leader with anger management issues that are finally going to serve him well. Told in the voice of our “Dad,” prepare for some dry humor, common sense actions and even some amazing acts of heroism in the face of a world caught up in total devastation.
Chris Lowry’s BATTLEFIELD Z is a slightly sideways look at one man’s quest to be all he should have been, to be the protector of his children and nothing will stand in his way as he begins a perilous journey from Florida to Alabama. Nothing is going to stop this man, not roving zombies, cultists sacrificing women to appease, well, heck, I’m not sure who, exactly, because it was drugs that started this whole humanity imploding disaster.
With just the right touch of tension, darkness and urgency, Chris Lowry creates a pretty darn good tale that, should we actually face Zgeddon, we can feel confident that we do stand a miniscule chance of survival. Our hero can be acidic, and certainly being inside his head lets us know he is pretty regular, pretty messed up and pretty unprepared for what he is facing. I have to hand it to him, he wings it well and I was completely entertained from start to finish! You may want to take notes on how to kill a zombie and how to run across the tops of cars, because apparently there is a right way and a wrong way for both.

The idea for the story is compelling - a single father searches for his children during a zombie apocalypse. I liked the main characters drive and determination, but the murderous groups they kept running into were way over the top for that early into an apocalypse. Only a few weeks into the disaster, and the landscape seems to be littered with lunatics with nothing better to do than chase after this guy, and his group.
The writing is solid with decent editing, though could have used a final polish. I'm trying to come up with something that lifts this story above average, but I'm not finding much. It's not terrible, and if you've read enough zombie fic, you know terrible, but I wish there had been something to give this one spark.
Two ex-wives, three kids being raised by other men, child support payments, a middle management job in the 'burbs of northern Orlando - when the Zgeddon starts, our erstwhile hero is probably secretly relieved he can release a lot of his pent up anger and aggression on real threats. Told in the witty, first-person narrative of our estranged Dad, "Battlefield Z" recounts his journey to find his children amidst the threat of roving zombies, crazed cultists, and of course, the local yokel militia from the Great Trailer Parks of Northern Florida. This is the first in a proposed series of books, and the second book, Children's Brigade, is already out. I'm stoked to read it, and that feeling of anticipation for a good read has been missing for me for a while.
For an indie book, this one is well done. There are some grammatical issues, mainly with the consistent misuse of that damn apostrophe that many people struggle with. Its v. it's, and of course, understanding that there is no apostrophe when you are just making something plural. These boo-boos were infrequent but annoying enough to pull me from the narrative of the story. Overall, a job very well done, and a good read!
This is a great book! First in this exciting zombie series! Well written, a bit violent but always warranted, good ideas & plot progression!, I do recommend this writer's work!
Kindle Unlimited, normally don't read a lot of zombie books, here and there but overall not that often, but ended up with some on freebie days and also have ku so reading though these, because as you can tell from the blurb not the normal for these days walking dead type one{s}. Read 1, 2, 3 as part of a 3 part collection, and read 4, 5, 6 as part of a 3 part collection. All books listed below.

I used to despite zombie stories of any sort. After real world Ebola and bath salt maniac conspiracies, however, I've taken a shine to them. I enjoyed this novel thoroughly. Just a regular guy doing what he has to do to survive and find his kids. I feel like there's probably quite a few latent "heroes" in the world today that one faced with terrible animosity would be able to keep getting back on their feet and pushing forward. This book needs proofread again though. I found a good many errors.
When the zombie apocalypse breaks out a man goes searching for his children. They live in different places and he wants to find all three kids. He ends up meeting up with other survivors and they are forced to work together to escape the state of Florida. Many of the survivors he meets on the way sidetracks his search for his kids as he can't stand idle when others are threatened. There are some interesting characters in this story and the action keeps the plot moving forward. I recommend this series for fans of the genre.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review
First off, this is a book about zombies;but it's written from the perspective of the struggling survivor's and the different situations that they are exposed to to survive. It is bloody, gross, and intense in some instances and thoughtful in others. The characters are well thought out and developed, situations intense and complex, and the interplay between characters interesting. A good book to read
I do not know how I have managed to miss Chris Lowry! He writes with a clear voice that is interesting and amusing, in a hard to put down way. This was a darn good read with a fascinating main character and a tight storyline. A hero who isn't, a dad who is trying to make up for lost time by finding the children of his various marriages, a man who is clearly seeing himself and knows what he can and can not do. I will not be 'missing out' on Chris Lowry any longer!
Pretty good to start to what I assume to be a pretty good series. No overt sexualization [rape is mentioned but not described in detail]. For the most part there is no bad language though "damn" is scattered about fairly generously [most zombie novels drop "f" and "s" bombs like rain drops] but not out of character [I prefer none but I want to be honest in my review]. Pretty good story line. Good humor, nice action, irritating bad guys [humans].
End of the civilized world with zombies eating everyone and mankind turning on each other. Typical writing with some appreciated humor and good character development as a group of survivors come together and move to stay alive and try to find family over 1000 miles away. I just may pick up the next book!
Well, it kinda is, but the protagonist is more real. He is not a hero, but does the heroic when it is necessary. He would rather run than fight, but if a fight is required he'll fight like the third monkey on the ramp to the Ark, and brother it is starting to rain!
I have read plenty of zombie apocalypse books to be bored by cliches. Nonetheless this novel’s main character made all the difference: his flawed personality, his killer instincts, and his desire to be a better person crash into each to make for an adventurous trek through Florida where the Zs aren’t the worst things to chase them.
Another great story set in the new Zombie apocalypse world, a father looking for family and the true to life struggles encountered on the road. If you like zombies and apocalyptic stories, try opening Chris Lowery's Battlefeild Z series!
Almost gave this 3 stars because of typos & length of the story. However, I really enjoyed the fast pace and characters. I'm debating on buying the next book. I probably will have to see how they're doing and hope an editor was hired beforehand.
It was a fast paced keep you on your toes read!!! Can't wait to read book two!! I hope he finds his family but face it it's the zombie apocalypse so he might not!
Another great ZA read, short but fun one here! I really enjoyed this one set in Florida by a f'd up divorced dad with anger issues, which come in handy in a ZA!
