Smoke has been captured by the Drake and is being turned into a shifter. This is the one plotline that really doesn’t make sense despite a pretty serious effort on the part of Halloran to make it so. Apparently there are so few shifters that they want to cultivate all possible shifters, trusting in the process to corrupt them. But with Smoke and Sydney actually successfully killing shifters—including a really big one in the last book—that doesn’t really make sense. What it seems like is that Halloran wants to give Smoke a cool new set of powers and he certainly does that, even as much of the focus reverts to Sydney and the coming baby.

Towards the end of the book, we learn about the source of a great secret of the Drake that looks like it will somehow be critical to the conclusion of this epic. The ending of the book is little more than a set up for a prolonged (book long?) final battle between Smoke and Sydney and all of the surviving bad guys in the final novel. It’s going to be tremendous!

A great continuation of a fun series! John Smoke is missing in action and Sydney is determined to locate him. While trying to raise a child, Sydney is still in a dilemma of finding her lost husband. The Drake has kidnapped him and no sign of him is in sight. Meanwhile, Smoke is trying to resist the temptations of the Drake and the power to be attained. The characters are still fun. The story is entertaining and provides a great continuation of the series. I'll continue to read them and keep Craig Halloran on my to-read list. Excellent narration by Holly Adams for the audible version.

What felt like another transitional book; leading up to the finale. Again it felt very short, and likely this could have been combined with the next book to be one larger read.

We see how Sidney is coping with Smoke having disappeared. We find out what's been going on with Smoke.

I knock off one star because again it felt pointless to have such a short book to transition. Also, because this book didn't have any "action" or "fantastical" sequences we've come to expect. The closest thing is Sidney tangling with a singular deader, and a Man-bat shifter crashing into the hood of a car.

Excited to read the next book, and see where/how the series ends!

Tying up ends and setting the scene for the final book. These books are a great length with short chapters for an easy read. Filled with new twists and lots of action I’m excited to read the final book and sad that it is ending.

Scary

This one is scary. I hate to know what happened to Smoke. Youve got to save him but I have faith. He is the hero after all. And I always knew not to trust Cyrus Tweel. A real dweeb that one. Yuck! You're going to have to work really hard to get them out of this mess.

Audiobook review- Likable characters. Entertaining storyline. The narrator did a nice job bringing the story to life. I received a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Smoke and Sid.......Power couple of the supernatural

For a minute there, I thought Smoke and Sid were doomed. Whatever form Smoke takes is fine by me. His personality take great shape in any form. Sid need him and he needs her. They best come out on top in the last....wiping tears...book.
