3- 4 Stars

I wavered between 3 and 4 stars personally. I enjoyed the start of the series and thought it looked very promising but somewhere in the middle I was disengaged with the characters and the storyline.

For me, I didn't care where the middle of the story went to, I didn't like it and Stella actually kind of turned me off a bit. When Sin's brother got "involved" in the storyline, it was too much for me and that's when I lost a connection with Stella's character.

I did enjoy the ending, it was a great wrap up of their story, it was the middle that I didn't care for and/or connect with:(

My first read by this author but it won't be my last because as much as I didn't fall in love with this story, her writing was very good, it was the execution of the storyline that didn't quite work for me in places!

This is one read that'll give you one massive headache. Celia Aaron has become one of my favourite dark writers and I'm not into a lot of dark stories but this one really had me at the edge of my seat with WTF did I read face.

I have to say that I like the storyline and it's one that you wouldn't tire of cause you're wanting to know what happens next. Let's just say that Sinclair is one total f**king ass and as for Stella I do pity her in a way but I grew to like her, for she didn't take any thing sitting down cause she gave it as much as she could and at times my heart broke for her. It's different, it's bad, Sin is yummilicious, it's twisted it's angst to a whole bloody new level but it's so effing good.

3.5 "Get me an impressive monster" stars

Something was missing here and I can't put my finger on the exact thing. 😕

This story was good with a lot of suspense and twists. The Acquisition trials especially were pretty demented and entertaining 😈🖤. It also had good smut.
But, the ending was extremely unrealistic rushed and boring.

##############################
🚨🛑🚨 SPOILER 🚨🛑🚨

############################

Plus, with the amount of trauma Sinclair put Stella through, I expected a lot of grovelling. There was some, but it wasn't to my heart's content. Also, after some time, Sinclair just put a stop to any kind of grovel and made up with Stella with a simple sorry and a good fuck. I really want to ask her if a few orgasms were worth her dignity and safety😒😒

She wasn't a doormat but she also wasn't a strong enough for me to love.

I didn't love Sin either cuz he went from this :

"I didn’t want to leave. What I’d wanted to do was grip her shirt and yank her into the car. Kidnapping her in broad daylight wasn’t an option, unfortunately. But if I had, how long would it take before she screamed? Before true fear overcame the steel lining her spine?
I didn’t know, but I wanted to find out."

To

"At that moment in front of the fire, I wanted the fairy tale. I wanted to be her knight instead of her demon. I kissed her like I meant it, like I felt something more for her than ownership."

this so fast. I wanted to strangle him cuz WE REALLY NEED SOME GOOD PSYCHOPATH'S IN OUR LIVES!!!!! Well, atleast I do.
Sigh.

An absolutely stunning series~ One of the best dark romance series I've read. I love the classic edge to this series! Each book is quick to read with a lot of action, passion, and suspense. I was also pleasantly surprised that each installment got darker & darker. Trust me- the ending to this series is phenomenal and wicked! I cannot recommend this series enough!!

★☆ ★☆ ★☆ ★☆ ★☆ ★☆ ★☆ ★☆ ★☆ ★☆

Counsellor
Counsellor Sinclair Vinemont, the ruthless attorney in Louisiana, is sure of his conviction against Mr. Rousseau. Stella, Rousseau's daughter, would do ANYTHING to protect her dear ol' dad including agreeing to becoming property of Counsellor Sinclair for a period of one year. Little does she know, Sinclair has much bigger plans for her.

Magnate
There were a few twists that I didn't see coming but I appreciated the deep detail in this book. It was almost as if book one was a Prologue- I found this installment much deeper and detailed. Onto the last one soon!

Sovereign
It’s time for the final trial- with so much on the line it works better when Sin and Stella team up. But being the acquisition of a dark and brooding man isn’t easy- Stella has to become the strongest she’s ever been in every way-mentally, physically, and emotionally. With a promise that the worst is yet to come Stella sets her sights on redemption and will do anything to get it.

I ❤️ it

OMG! Such a ride with book and story. Seriously I don't know what to say just I loved it. Characters and everything was perfect. Sin is one hell character. Strong and fearless. In my opinion she is the main character in whole series. I loved Sin too but sometimes I hate it him because of his actions. Other characters were awesome Lucius and Teddy and the rest.
Truly enjoyed reading this series. Keeps you on edge and guess what coming next. Read it and you will love it.

Almost Perfect

This story was almost perfect. To say it is dark is a vast understatement though. If you have any triggers, just pass this one up. Surprisingly, the only thing it didn't have was om/ow, but everything else is there. Not all of the bad things happen to Stella though. Everyone in this book seems to suffer tremendously. It's not an easy ride, but if sure is a satisfying one in the end. I loved that ending and the epilogue was nice too. I love me some HEA after going through all that muck and darkness. It's the only thing that makes it worthwhile. Now you may ask yourself why I didn't give it 5 stars if I love it so much. That's simple. Lack of research about simple things. Mint Juleps have powdered sugar and a dash of water in them too. But the one that drove me crazy is that everyone in this book pours alcohol on every cut, slash, hole, scrape, whatever. If it's bleeding they all, even doctors douse it in alcohol. Considering the violence in the story, someone was getting doused in alcohol every other chapter! Now first off, alcohol is more painful than the injury itself. That's like torturing someone after they have already been beaten and whipped, it seems unnaturally cruel. Especially since the reason for all that pain is that the alcohol is eating away healthy tissue!!# Never, ever put alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, iodine or macuricome on an open wound. They all damage healthy tissue, but alcohol is the worst and the most painful. The best thing to do with an open wound is run warm water over it making sure it is clean, then stitch if necessary and cover in antibiotic ointment and cover it. Keeping it moist and covered to help heal faster and reduce scaring. That's it. Just water. Stella in the bath was ready to heal up until he took her out and poured alcohol on everything! Dang the girl was tortured enough without being tortured to treat the torture! If you are giving recipes or writing about medical procedures, please do your research first.

wow. Just wow. I finished this at about 1 this morning. And if you know anything about me you know that I am usually in bed and sleeping by 9. I just couldn't quit turning the pages. I even ignored my family as they yelled at the tv during the Alabama LSU game.

This was dark and angsty and my stomach was in knots while reading. I hated Sinclair and I loved him at the same time. And I did nothing but love Stella through the whole book. I cried for her and cheered for her and just wanted to hold her and tell her everything would be ok. I loved the ending (and I'm not saying anything else so I don't give it away LOL)

This was very similar to the Indebted series by Pepper Winters: crazy rules from a traditional family, horses, a threatening brother, destruction of the crazy rituals, and a captive romance situation. This 3 parter is like a baby version of Winter's work. It started out strong but got fizzled at the end. Strong work from Aaron however who I'm excited to explore more as a dark writer. Her themes of strong characterization and pacing are evident, though I'm not too much of a fan of the unexplainable insta love on the hero's side.

Sinclair Vinemont is a lawyer made of stone. He does not cry. Does not feel. And does not give a damn about anything other than his family and his money. He lives the lifestyle of the rich and famous and will do anything to keep his life the way it is. Whenever he finds out he has been chosen for the Acquisition trials to become the next Sovereign. Luckily for him, he knows exactly who is going to be his Acquisition. Stella Rousseau. Her father is being convicted of fraud and Sin can use this to get what he wants. Hopefully with a fight he will have his Acquistion and his title as Sovereign very soon.

Stella Rousseau has been fighting, ever since her mother committed suicide, to keep herself alive, happy, and in the now. Unfortunately, the hits keep coming whenever her father is being tried for investment fraud. It doesn’t help that the lawyer who is trying to get her father behind bars is the sexy and evil, Sinclair Vinemont. She would do anything to save her father from this fate that could surely be the end of him. Possibly even accepting a deal from the devil.

This is my first book by Celia Aaron and let me just say, I aint mad at it. Acquisition is one of the darkest reads that I have read in a very long time and it’s beautiful in all of it’s blackness. I have been amazed by this book from the very first page and could not put it down. Im not kidding, ask my poor husband and son how many times I yelled at them to leave me alone so I could consume the pages of this novel. Celia, YOU MA’AM, are a literary genius. NOW GIVE ME MORE!

Holy Moly! What the heck did I just finish reading! I've read several books by Celia Aaron....from her sports themed books to her short & sexy holiday themed books (enjoying them all). This series was a HUGE switch from her other works I've read. It is darker and more twisted. When I started the series, it completely sucked me in. I spent the weekend connected to my Kindle unable to put it down. It is one of those series where you wonder what is going to happen on the next page, what will happen down the line and makes you nervous to turn the page. There were a few times while reading I was squirming in my seat a bit (and not in a good way) but that's what made it so freaking twisted. I loved it! I enjoyed how strong Stella was throughout the whole story. To handle what she was put through and still make it out whole.

I wouldn't mind reading more about Lucius, Teddy or even her friend Dimitris.

A top 2016 read for me!

This is seriously my favourite series of the year! I cannot begin to put into words how amazing this series is. It's dark and sexy and has all the feels.
Sinclair Vinemont is the man you love to hate. He is confident, forceful, demanding and cold. But Stella Rouseau, his acquisition, somehow manages to break down his walls and see a different side to him. One that cares and feels remorse.
The acquisition trials are ghastly. Think sexy hunger games. I was literally sitting on the edge of my seat throughout this entire series. It was so gripping that I couldn't put it down. I had to know what was going to happen. I had to see if there would be any kind of redemption for the acquisitions.
I really can't say too much without giving things away, but honestly, this is one of the most compelling stories I've read.

Aaron knocks out a Romantic Thriller for the ages

This was one of the best compilation series of books I've ever read. It has everything you can imagine in the book. There is love, lust, betrayal, friendships, enemies, blackmail, secrets, lies, partnerships, hidden emotions, happiness, sadness, grief, anger, etc. So many things that make Sinclair and Stella's journey so exciting with Lucius and Teddy along for the ride with Rene and Laura for confining for Stella as she leads a year long journey that she can't believe she gave up her life to save her dad from prison. It's an amazing pageturner that you can't put down and when you're done you've fallen for the characters that you just want more of the story.

Five stars WOW

I have to admit I'm ashamed I didn't find out this serious let alone this author any sooner .I had this book on my read list for a while but my cousin recommend it. This series is a lil bit of everything, from twisted and dark to witty and butterflies Celia perfectly blended them. Not to mention how emotional I was throughout the whole story, beautifully told and stunning. It will take you over to the edge until you're out of air,the hatred and the angst, the challenges and risks so powerful yet so weak. This author has this odd and dark sense of writing that pulls you in from the very first page until northing existed. This won't be my last dive into Celia's works this is the beginning and I'm so ready,FIVE AMAZING WELL DESERVED STARS.

WTF he didn't just say that!!!!!
He said something like he’d let hundreds of men rape her if that meant he wins!!! It doesn't matter what he's trying so hard to win. Yuk... Disgusting asshole.
Mixed feeling, one min he's Acting all possessive then asking her to strip in front of his brothers and maids. Not only he’d punish and torment her, But He also Let other men sexually assault and abuse her then get mad that his brother shows some interest in her!!! He's like a younger brother to Jethro from debt inheritance! This story is also very similar to the indebted series.

Dark as the Swamp

Don't know how to describe this other than weirdly dark. Reminds me a bit of Anne Rice, though that might because of the Louisiana setting. It had that strange alternate history feeling. I can say that I hardly stopped reading until I was finished. This author shows herself deserving of 5 stars, top ten best selling and any other award that shows she has broken out of her genre into a writer that everyone wants to read.

This is one of those stories that I can try and review, but no matter what something will be missing, some thought not expressed correctly. I will try my best to hit the major parts that I think are important for any reader who is thinking about this story.

First, read all the stories! Do not stop and do not think that one book is enough to judge this story on. I HIGHLY recommend this boxed set as it makes the reading experience so much more. Each of these three stories is an integral part of the whole and cannot be read as standalone. You must also read them in order: Counselor, Magnate, and Sovereign. The stories each have a different vibe and contain different aspects of the story that the readers needs to view the whole story.

Second, understand that yes this book is dark, the dark scenes are not for the light of heart, but they make this story everything that it is. You need those emotions, that darkness to truly enjoy the HEA. Going into this story I was prepared for loads and loads of darkness but I was surprised that there was way less darkness than expected. There are four major scenes that contain about 95% of the darkness and the rest of the story is about the connection of the main characters, their development of their relationship, and the bonds of a family. The dark was DARK, but the light was there also.

Third, do not judge these characters until the very last word! Trials and tribulations, heartbreak and healing, you must take it all in before you form your opinion of these people. Before you question their choices try and think about what you would do in their position. This was a very emotional story and it takes the entre set before the reader understands.

Lastly, when reading a story I like to be a step ahead of the characters and know things before they do. I feel like this helps me to digest the characters choices better as I can spend more time on understanding them and their choices rather than trying to “catch up” with the plot. In this story, as a reader, I did not learn anything about the acquisition or the rules until the main character Stella did. I liked to be prepared to the next step in the story, but I can understand why the author wrote it the way she did. It kept me on the edge of my seat and wholeheartly involved in the action.

I hope this review helps a little. It is my opinion that you just have to read the story to understand. I LOVED this story and it will be in my favorites file. I will read it again in the future. If you have any questions that you would like answer I am more than willing to give out any answers I can, just message me. Happy reading.

Shattered Like Glass🍷 Against Stone

I started reading this compilation book after 📚reading the first book, Counselor, Sinclair's🐺🍌🌋✋ story. So my review won't cover any of that.

Stella💋💃 is the Acquisition in this twisted, sadistic, continuation of the Vinemont family legacy. Of Three brothers, the oldest is Sinclair👿🍌🌋✋, a psychopath and the local corrupt parish DA. The middle brother is Lucius🐺🍌🌋, not far from his brother in mental health issues, plus his ego issue with thinking he's God's gift to women. He runs The family's extensive sugar cane business. The youngest brother is Teddy, he is still in college and is clueless about the whole stinking mess.

Their mother is the root of all the evil in their lives. Twenty years ago she was the Sovereign👑. The horror, the debauchery, and the sadism that goes with the 👑crown broke her mind. The current Sovereigns👑 time is up, and the competition for a new one has sucked the Vinemont family back into the cesspool of crime, sadism and debauchery that marks the transition.
Only three corrupt and wealthy old southern families are in the competition for Sovereign👑 at one time, and thankfully, it only takes place every ten years. Four separate competitions take place over a years time. All of them are marked with drugs, crime, orgies, and extreme physical and mental cruelty to the three acquisitions.
This is a hard book to read because it unfolds like a slow motion train wreck🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃. Unstoppable and moving forward, destruction imminent, but we're afraid to jump off and save ourselves, so we ride it through to the end.
The Acquisition destroys lives, not only the three chosen acquisition's lives, but many of those around them will also be destroyed in the process. People will die.
In the meantime, Stella💋💃 and Sin🐺🍌🌋✋ ( how appropriate!) have 🔥hot naaasssty, rough sex often throughout the book, even though he is relentless in his duty to see her through the entire acquisition process. Can they win? Then what?
The ending was somewhat of a let down after the high intensity of the rest of the books.
Sin🐺🍌🌋 is a biter👄, a binder, a spankster✋✋. He's a rough naaasssty, twisted man👹 in an expensive suit.

YEHAW! Ride Em Bareback🍌, Cowgirl! 🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎

🖤😈🖤😈🖤😈🖤😈🖤

😈In the heart of Louisiana, the powerful people in the south living behind elegant gates and green trees have great and powerful control.
In the same company, once every ten years, a tournament is held to determine who will be the ruler and this is determined by the type of acquisition, ownership claim and participation in a type of twisted game.
What exactly does this mean? You will need to read to understand.
Just saying it was a kind of love letter, written for a time when barbarism was enshrined in law.

🖤 #Sinclair #Winmont is a candidate to claim leadership.
There is only one way to win even the key to doing so through his "purchase" and that is #Stella #Ruso.
In order to save her father, Stella agreed to become a Sinclair prisoner for a year.
(Does it remind you of a movie that became a hit on Netflix ??)

Although she's at the mercy of the cold and treacherous #Sinclair (I have many more nicknames for him that out of respect for the team I will not write them), #Stella does not give in willingly and when she and Sinclair fight each other and at the same time the ticking clock can not know how it will end.

ינSinclair has 2 more brothers, who are also eager for Stella.
How will Stella take advantage of this?

😈The book is classified as a dark romance.
Contains #violent content and elements of #slavery and #BDSM
The book is suspenseful, fascinating and shrouded in mystery and of course also contains super hot sex scenes 🔥🔥🔥

🖤I read this trilogy within two days it swept and threw me into a world where the old nobility, with laws that fit another century collides with our century.

😈Everyone who loves the dark and special stories in the genre of enjoyment here is guaranteed !!

Acquisition: The Complete Series by Celia Aaron
Would you sell your soul to the Devil to keep your father out of jail? This is exactly what Stella thinks she is doing when she signs the contract. She becomes Counsellor Sinclair’s acquisition. Sinclair needs an acquisition to become Sovereign and to rule the depraved elite. The ordeals that Stella goes through are not for the faint at heart. They are meant to test ones strength and endurance. The trials are mentally and physically taxing and will push Stella to breaking point. The spectators and players are vicious. Can Sinclair and Stella save one another? Are the elite too blood thirsty? This story is gut-wrenching and gruesome. There is so much suspense and deception that you really don’t know in which direction the author is taking you. The secrets are kept to protect a few and yet they seem to break a whole family. In the midst of all this darkness there is a love story. It is not your usual love story and at times I really did question Sinclair for allowing Stella to endure what she did. Stella was a strong character and loyal to the bone. Secondary characters played a huge role in this story. Some of them you will like and some you will despise. The plot was full of sinister influences. The writing flowed and the pace was moderate. There was plenty of building climax and overall I was captured by this very immoral story. This is not for the faint hearted but if you like dark and decadent, then this one is for you.

Killer series

This series reminded me as it went along as a very dark, very adult Hunger Games. Not exactly in the same way, but it involves a pretty violent competition between corrupt Southern 'nobility' in selecting their next ruler, Soverign or really puppetmaster of all things in their lives for 10 year spans. Three 'Acquirers' chose 3 'Acquisitions' who participate in 4 'trials' in a years time after which the reigning Soverign selects his or her successor. There are 7 rules they must follow as they participate, but twists thrown in by the Soverign can be (& are) just about anything. This books main characters were the handsome, cold & corrupt district attorney, Sinclair Vinemont who finds himself pursuing, basically hunting down the spitfire daughter of the man he is prosecuting, the lovely Stella. The more Stella hates 'Sin', the more he wants her. She is forced into becoming his Acquisition for a year, becoming his to do whatever he wants, however he wishes during this time. This is an explicit series, lots of violence, sex, betrayal but boy it's so good if you enjoy a great, dark story that just grabs you & doesn't let you go until the very satisfying ending...whew, LOVED IT! Well done Ms. Aaron, your books are so addictive & un-put-downable.

Wow...What can I say, I feel like I've just come off a roller coaster ride.
You know when you're standing in line to ride a roller coaster, you feel excited and a bit afraid, there's a huge sense of anticipation. You get to the head of the line, walk to and sit in your coaster car, the adrenaline starts to build, butterflies in your stomach, fear. The car starts, it slowly grinds up the first incline you're perched on the top then the car drops over the edge. You scream and scream and scream, stomach in your throat, adrenaline spiking, you take a deep breath then you go up the next incline and it starts all again. Finally the car pulls into the end, you look back you say to yourself "OMG" then you get back in line and do it all over again :)
Needless to say I loved this series, dark, gritty, fantastic character development and story line. I don't want to give too much away. A story about abuse of power, lack of morals and corruption. A love story....yes but not your usual type. Be warned it is very "black' and there are issues and scenes that could be triggers for some. But I want to do it all over again!

This was my first Celia Aaron and it made me love her. I feel like this book may not be for everyone. It seems kinda twisted at first and to be completely honest is twisted at first and plenty of other times but that’s also what I loved about it. It got under my skin, seeped into my mind. It bothered and worried me at times, just the story itself. That’s how you know it’s a good story though. It makes you hate people than love them. It takes hold of your feelings and emotions and manipulates them. Total emotional control and I love that in a book or movie for that matter. It makes you invested in the story like you really care what happens to the characters or in the story. I like the symbolism in this story too. How the elite are living breathing darkness like money is the root of all evil so the people who have a lot of it are evil too. I like how one man decides to step up and tear down decades and decades of tradition. It shows how powerful we can be as individuals. The story is wonderful and suspenseful AF! It has a beautiful HEA but a bumpy, rocky, confusing ride there. Love this series !!

I had Counsellor on my Kindle for the longest time until I decided to start it. I didn't think it would be as amazing as it was and I didn't think I would love this series as much as I did. Celia Aaron has become one of my favorite authors. Her writing is just...amazing. There is no other way for me to describe it. I loved Stella. She was a badass but she was also humanly vulnerable and Aaron was able to balance these two characteristics in such a way that one never overshadowed the other. Sin was another beautifully flawed human. I really hated him at the beginning but grew to love him just as Stella did. I was sad that . I actually got a little teary-eyed.

This is the only series I've ever given 5 stars and they are well deserved!

Wow Just Wow

The sick and sinister world of the rich and maybe a bit in-breed of this fictional aristocratic group was just down right scary. The twists and trials of the vinemonts as they went through this year was just a lot. But the love and devotion to true honest goodness and love by Stella healed a family in more ways than one.

The way they almost brought down the group without any family blood shed was amazing. Lives were changed and strengthened, we saw little and love win in the end which is what is the most important thing. Evil should never win but at times over the three books that spanned a year I feared that it would.

Definitely need a strong stomach to read this series as it is not for the faint of heart.

Modern oligarchy

Really well-written book. The pacing is quick and enhances the tension between the characters. The plotting is intricately woven, but not so much that we question the previously developed characterization. We're let into the secret early enough to appreciate the characters' choices and sacrifices. The violence doesn't feel gratuitous, but part of the culture. Most of all, the heroine holds on to her smarts and her moxie, and I liked her more as the story went on.
The ending stretches credulity just a touch, but by that time I wanted the bastards to pay, so I let it roll.

An original intriguing storyline. Celia Aaron has written a suspenseful, mysterious dark romance. She is talented and has a vivid imagination. I'm happy I read the box set, I honestly don't think I would have liked it as much if I had to wait for each book to have been published. I detest cliffhangers. Her characters are well developed, the emotions real, the violence impactful but not unpalatable (at least for me). I couldn't help myself from liking Sinclair even as I hated him. I liked the heroine. This book is well edited and formatted, a real plus for me. I found the world Aaron created fascinating. A great read.
