➳A love story filled with romance that is one of a kind and filled with second chances at finding your destiny...
➳J.M. Raphaelle is a new author to me in the sense of reading her romance novels. Being a first timer for me, it is rare to be giving it a rating of four stars. When it comes down to the chemistry between the characters, it is one that I have read upon before but found it rather endearing in a way that is meant to understand that second chances at romances and love at first sight is one that is present and viable to the reader. Though we come to understand the past relationship struggles that the female character had to endure, we also comprehend that the male character has a close relationship with the female's past history that has made her struggle to be in a new relationship. That is the major message on this novel that many novels lack.
➳There is an even deeper meaning to many other aspects of the story as well. J.M. lacks in the department of describing the internal meaning of what the characters are going through or try to decipher. However, when it comes down to interpreting the romance of characters and how they emotional feel towards each other, disregarding their physical affect, JM is great at it.
➳Overall, this is a love story that is keeping me on my toes for the second book for sure. I do hope we get more of the in-depth idea of how the male character feels about the female one. Maybe some chapters on HIS pov? I know I would appreciate that. Thank you to the author and her JM team for providing a copy of this beauty. It is sure a book that I recommend for those who are looking for a romance that is sweet and endearing.
➳Paperback copy given by the author in exchange for an honest review coming soon...
Me encantó!
Finally finished this one graciously sent to me for review by @jmrteam and @jmraphaelle. Romance is not my usual genre but I did enjoy this book and I am a very slow reader because of time constraints, but towards the end I couldn’t put it down. I have already told y’all I am not much of a romance reader but there’s a twist- kind of mystery to it as well. Ellie is heartbroken- her guy Mike ( AKA jerk- and that’s being kind) left her without a word. Not so much as an ‘It’s not you - it’s me’.. she has spent 5 months mourning this loss and grieving and wondering what the H happened and WHY?!?! “I thought time healed all wounds. I’m still waiting...”. Then there’s Jack. He is amazing! AND one of Mike’s best friends. Can Ellie find true and lasting love after all that’s happened? Of course there are some twists and turns along the way - it wouldn’t be interesting if there weren’t- but you do find the characters appealing and the overall plot is one where you feel you HAVE to know what happened. Ellie stands in her own way a lot and at one point she even says” I let my fears of getting hurt again get the best of me.” No spoilers here, but the ending is satisfying. Ellie is totally relatable and you just yearn for her to be happy, but is SHE, one of her friends puts it “...in her own way.” I so totally get it. I will say this is not what I would consider I YA book -for teens anyway. There is some adult language and situations in the book that are very explicit. Not that the reader would mind, very mild compared to the 50 Shades series. All in all- give the book ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I believe if you enjoy this genre, you’d really like this book. I know I did😊
A sweet story of second chances and finding yourself before being willing to love another.
There is a lot of growth and development between the characters within this story and even though their actions may end up pulling them apart at times, it's the passion and drive to achieve the stability they know is there that pulls them back together.
Ellie has just come out of a breakup and is heartbroken, she's allowed herself to become a she'll of herself but when her friends push her to go out and see some light she ends up finding Jack.
Jack is her ex's best friend and even though this may go against some code he can't help falling for Ellie. They build a connection they both cannot deny and with the on going push and pull it keeps you anticipating when the final thread will be pulled.
A recommend read for a short, sweet story of two people falling in love irrevocably and passionately.
Ellie was heartbroken when her first love walked out on her without a word explaining why. She couldn't eat, she couldn't sleep. She couldn't live. But her best friend made it her mission to repair Ellie's broken heart and soon Ellie learned that there was in fact, life after Mike.
This is a perfect romance novel, that every woman can relate to; their first broken heart. The characters are all strong, and very well developed. The story holds your interest all the way through as you root for Ellie to obtain her happily ever after.
Great debut novel. I am expecting many more great works from Ms. Raphaelle.
Ellie was left broken hearted when her first love left her, she didn't know what to do with herself. But with the help of her best friend, Ellie finds exactly what she was missing. This is one book I can highly relate to. There are so many similarities between what happened to Ellie and my own past. This story was just what I needed and it didn't disappoint. The Thing About Love kept me on the edge of my seat and I’m freaking out because I need more from these characters. JM Raphaelle Please let us know the release date of the second installment💖💜💖
So this young woman has just been dumped and is crushed. While her best friend is trying to help her heal she meets Jack. He's handsome, funny and smart! There a catch though, he's known to be a player and he's her exes best friend! This was fun and flirty and a wonderful read. I don't normally read a lot of romance novels so this one caught me by surprise while I kept turning the pages to see what was going to happen! I cannot wait for the next book! Loved it!
Ellie is heart-broken and her pain hits really close to home for me. Saying that she's a relatable character and that I was rooting for her all the way to her HEA is an understatement. J.M. Raphaelle is a talented writer and storyteller, and her debut novel is captivating. I'll definitely read more from this author!

"EMOCIÓN Y ADICCIÓN. SUPER ESPECIAL".

Do you remember your first broken heart? I’m no stranger to love and broken hearts. For a time I thought I would only be destined to be broken hearted. I have dated and loved and lost many guys and I have been in a similar situation as the main character of this book. I was with a guy for 3 years when we broke up. It wasn’t my first broken heart but it hurt the worst because when you spend so much time with someone you become very lost without them, no matter if they were a complete d-bag or not. When you’ve become your own person again after being a unit for so long you tend to go through a period where you’re not sure who you are any longer. That being said the events that take place in this book are so very relatable and realistic. It makes you love the characters even more because of how honest this book is about breakups and heartache. Beyond that the characters felt well developed and were complex as well. This book is definitely one that will make you cry and swoon multiple times.
However, I did feel that the plot was a tad cliché (but I didn’t feel that it was cheesy or annoying) and I felt that the pacing suffered a little bit for the plot. However, it was not as cliché as most romance books are. I’m also not a fan of heavy romance scenes so I didn’t enjoy the more adult actions, but I did feel like the story benefitted from these moments between the two characters.
Verdict: If you’re a fan of romance and want something that a little different than your average Harlequin Romance book then I’d definitely check this book out! This is also an excellent book to read if you want to read about a realistic character who discovers herself and she’s also the type of character who you will be rooting for throughout the whole book.
Los Angeles 2017 – In The Thing About Love... young Ellie Valencia is a shadow of herself, after the man she loves leaves her without an explanation or goodbye. She's lost in sorrow and self-pity. But the universe has plans for her, and she unexpectedly meets the charming and sexy Jack Milian, the antithesis of her ex. There's only one problem, Jack is her ex's best friend. Despite destiny's cruel joke, Ellie is willing find herself again, to heal and give love a chance. But will Jack fight for her against the innate obstacles that arise from falling for his best friend's ex? The turmoil and passionate romance Ellie and Jack find themselves in is The Thing About Love... Set in Los Angeles, The Thing About Love... is coming of age contemporary romance that is engaging, sexy, and inspiring. More than a story of love and passion, the author created complex characters that grow as the story develops. As a reflection of the people who inspired them, the characters are Hispanic and the author pays tribute to her Mexican heritage throughout the story, without making it overtly glaring to the reader.
My Review The thing I love about this book is how relatable it is. At least once in everyone's life they experience this sort of heart ache. It is almost like a rite of passage. A horrible rite of passage, but something that needs to happen for us to see more clearly. To love someone so much, or the idea of what could be that it guts you so deeply. Making ourselves sick over someone who was never supposed to be ours in the first place. Two people that just weren't meant to be anything more than a lesson. Ellie wasn't exactly lucky in love the first time around. It took her 5 long months, her best friend Marie, a book, and a workshop on self-love to bring her out of her stupor. Then she meets Jack. Jack is the it guy. This is the type of man that women stop in their tracks for an stare at, and then proceed to throw themselves at shamelessly. Ellie and Jack's first introduction wasn't very successful. She was slowly making her way back into reality, but still stuck in her own head. The second meeting is when she realizes how lost she was. How in the heck did she not realize this beautiful man's bluish grey eyes? His touches transport you into another universe. His kisses steal your breath away. Being with him is more than just exciting... Being with him is realizing that you never want to know another day without him in your life.
Ellie went through so much heart ache and self-hate. She lost something she never really had in the first place. I believe this book is a revelation for any woman/man going through a similar situation. Maybe they haven't met their Jack yet, but are stuck in lust with the wrong man/woman. It shows women/men that you can be with someone for 3 long years and not realize how wrong that you are for one another. Love should never be a one-sided road you travel down. In life and in love everyone who is participating should be present! Ellie is fortunate to have her friend Marie throughout this awful lesson. At least she had someone to keep her checked into reality and forced her to think about what she was doing to herself. Ellie became this unrecognizable shell of a women she didn't even know anymore. This wasn't how she seen her life turning out. So, she did what we all do in desperate times. She poured herself into her work. Slowly coming back to reality is when she notices this wonderful man, whom she may never have met if she stayed in that horrible state of mind. We all have had a Mike in our lives that has hurt us in some deep way. Everybody has their own way of dealing with heartache. Yes, he (Mike) started out as a dochebag, and it ended with him being the same way. The thing is when you are attracted to someone who may have what you are looking for you go into a state of denial. He will change, so you tell yourself, and he will love me, I just have to give it time… Let Ellie be an example to anyone who hasn't gone through this. I think the author was trying to show women what not to be like. Showing us that we deserve so much more if we only get out of our own way. We are our own worst enemy! To learn to love yourself and figure out what you want from love and from life. It is so easy to lose yourself in throw of things. Especially with a hot guy that makes you feel so good. Even if it is only for little bits at a time. You become so dependent on getting those little displays of affection each time you see each other. Open our eyes women, and when you do, and are able to truly love yourself, you will find what you are looking for. Sometimes you'll find things you never knew you needed. Maybe you'll find your Jack. Not only was this book about finding love, but finding yourself. Thank you for gifting me this beautiful story about love and self-discovery. This was exactly the sort of book I needed. A book to remind me not to forget to love me first. I had my Ellie moment in life. I have my Jack. I was able to relate to her on such a personal level and that was what drew me in.

I'am hands down a romance kind of girl and my go to genre is and will always be romance; I just love and enjoy it so much. I will always go back to reading a good romantic book after finishing an out of my comfort zone kind of book.
The Thing about Love by J.M. Raphaelle, was a sweet, quick and easygoing story about a young girl, Ellie Valencia, who was trying her best to survive and deal with her heartbreak without losing herself on the process. The love of her life, her reason to be and the man she was devoted to, Mike, had left her without so much as an explanation. Devastated and shattered, she closed over herself and let sorrow envelope her, until the day she met Jack Milian. The drop dead handsome and caring man with a touch of a bad boy. Their first encounter wasn’t very pleasant, but as Ellie’s best friend convinced her that she was ready to move on and learn to trust again, she quickly started falling in love with him. The only obstacle blocking them both, was that Jack was her ex’s best friend. But would their love stand a chance in front of the code, bros before hoes?
This book is the first one of The Thing About trilogy, a sequel (which I am quite excited about, since there are still many questions i need answers for) The thing about ever after will be coming out very soon.
i must say that it was cliché on many occasions, i did roll my eyes at the characters, and did want to smack the girl on the head and shake the hell out of her. maybe that is just me, since i get too picky and demanding. So don't get discouraged by my opinion on this book and grab your copies romance junkies.
Me encontré remarcando frases, analizando posibilidades, llorando y riendo a momentos, entendiendo muchas cosas.
Ellie is completely heartbroken when her ex Mike broke up with her after three years of dating without any explanation and reason as to why he didn’t want her anymore. He ignores her and walks away every time she tries to approach him to ask why. If it wasn’t for her two best friends Marie and Rob who knows what downward spiral Ellie would be in. Then she meets Jack a sexy, handsome blue-grayed eyed guy, who is genuine and very caring towards Ellie, but only problem is he is Mike’s best friend since childhood “there’s a guy code never date your best friend’s ex’s”.
It seems like Jack doesn’t seem to care, every time Mike’s around Jack acts like Ellie is just another girl in the crowd and doesn’t pay much attention to her. Which makes Ellie wonder is this even worth another heartbreak since she has falling in love with Jack!?! But then all of a sudden Mike’s coming around and being all nice to Ellie again!
I absolutely loved reading this book, the author made it very easy to fall in love with the character’s and really connect with them on their feelings especially Ellie. I also enjoyed Ellie and Marie’s friendship how Marie sticks by her and what a friend should really be like. This is a romance novel on heartbreak, friendships, love, and finding your true self and learning how to deal with things as they happen to you!
The Thing About Love is a work of fiction inspired by true events of the author ! How cool is that!
Like it. This was my first read of the author and she don't disappoint me at all. Was a great debut novel, but need so much more, the way the characters complement each other is a little awkward. But was a great read.
Sigh worthy! I read it in a day because I couldn't stop. It's a love story, not only between a Ellie and Jack, but of self-love. Ellie grows, learns, matures. And it's beautifully written. I can't wait for Book 2!
