Not all hospital wards were built to heal people... A grieving Robert Watts has little down time. Though he now has a house to live in, and friends new and old to join him, his financial woes have not been resolved.
And he has yet to come to terms with the things that he has seen... and experienced.
That is until Rob, Shelly, and Cal receive a visit from the mysterious Sean Sommers who offers them another job. Only this time, it's not a haunted estate that they are commissioned to purge, but an abandoned hospital ward... The Seventh Ward, a place that has been locked for decades, trapping more than just a horrible history within.
This time, Robert finds himself narrowly tight-rope walking between life and death, the living and the dead. The problem is, Robert isn't sure which side he falls on anymore...
True story: I used to cut up bodies. No, not for fun, you sickos–for work. After reaching the age of majority and fleeing the clutches of an overprotective mother, I went to university like a good boy.
More than a decade later and an alphabet soup of letters after my name, I found myself looking down the double-chamber of a microscope at an eyeball. Feeling ironically introspective, I decided that it was time for a change.
After seventy plus novels and more than a million copies sold, I’ve found my true calling, one that also includes a plethora of letters. Hopefully you see something in my catalog that you like, something to feast your eyes on.
I also have two spooky podcasts that are appropriate for ALL ages, so long as you like to be scared: P.T. Logan's Five Minutes of Terror and Camp Fear. Both are FREE and available on all podcast platforms. For MATURE audiences, I've created two fiction podcasts, Nightmare Residue and Bad Priest.

A wildly imaginative second installment in a wildly imaginative series, SEVENTH WARD showcases some really scary characters, both alive and not, and monstrous. Following the horrific events of SHALLOW GRAVES, the trio are "summoned" to clear the seventh ward of isolated, abandoned, Pinedale Hospital, of its specters. Not that easy. Very dangerous, very terrifying, a knockout ending.
This was a disturbingly chilling horror and I had a great time reading it. As usual the author has a very vivid writing style and I do love the detail that makes the story come to life. Robert, Shelley, and Cal, go to the seventh ward (psychiatric) of a closed up clinic to battle dead and living forces from within. I was totally engrossed in the story and wondering what was going to happen next. Sometimes I found myself wanting to speak for Dr. Mansfield since he always seemed to say the wrong things to the crazy patient who was once a medical student(Andrew Shaw). I mean, he could have at least been a bit more patient with him to placate him somehow, but I guess what Dr Andrew Shaw ended up doing was inevitable. It was well written, very imaginative and moved at a smooth, steady pace. Overall, a spooky and unique thriller. :)
I have enjoyed both of the first two books in this series. They are good, spooky stories and pretty imaginative. I look forward to the next installment.
I must be honest and say I didn't read it all the way through, only about 3/4. Too much unnecessary gore and not enough paranormal. The word "quiddity" popped up on every other page until I wanted to scream and decided enough was enough! Too many GOOD books out there.
Patrick Logan returns to his Haunted series with the second installment which deals with creepy goings-on in a former mental institution. The narrative flashed back and forth between the Ward's dark past and the investigation in the present and Logan manages to keep the reading guessing throughout. The well worn "They were a ghost all along" trope is nicely turned on its head- We know someone is a ghost, the question is who. It's a bit like a murder mystery only trying to work out who the victim rather than the killer is.
Readers should be warned that the author assumes the reader has a good recollection of the events of the first book in the series, which is a bold move as I didn't find it memorable enough to stay with me in great detail 12 months later. There were some moments which would have had greater impact if I'd jumped straight from book one into book two and were diluted by the amount of time it took me to recall what happened in the previous story.
Logan's writing style isn't what you called "finely honed" probably because The Seventh Ward is one of seven books he released in 2016. He clearly churns them out at a great rate but I think I'd prefer it if he slowed down his output and spent some more time giving his characters more of a unique voice. Another edit also might have reduced the repetitive descriptions (a nurse in this book is very fat. Really, she's a large woman. I know this because Logan reminds us constantly. Every time she's mentioned).
I'd give the seventh ward a 3.5 stars. I'm keen to read more to find out where the ongoing story is going to end up.
The first book in this series was a very good book, fun to read, and enjoyable. This book was kinda creepy. Not as much fun involved but much more of the creepy factor. The premise is the terrified trio are living in the formally haunted house, which Robert inherited, and have formed a ghost-hunting business. Their next assignment takes them to an abandoned psychiatric hospital to clear out the ghosts that inhabit it. Once again the ghost-hunting trio have a wicked time clearing out the ghosts with each of them having terrifying experiences to deal with that puts them in peril that they miraculously overcome. Unlike the first book, I didn't find this book as interesting to read because of the environment in which it took place. I guess I find a psychiatric hospital a little to cliche for a haunted environment.
That was one hell of a story! Well paced, horrible without being overly so. The prologue send shivers up my spin and the ending left me wanting more. Robert's adventures are far from being over.
Is it creepy, yes, yes it is. Is the story so horror one will have nightmares? No, not really (and yet you won't see me lurk around closed hospitals any time soon... but that might be because it's probably because it's illegal and not in fear of gruesome ghosts). Would I recommend it to those who are into this genre? Absolutely!
That said, why the 4 stars and not 5? Because there were some tiny parts of it that bugged me like mistaking mascara for eyeliner and so on but that's purely me and would most probably not bother another reader.
I tried, I really did. I waded all the way through this novel thinking, "This *has* to get better"! After reading the 'teaser ' for book three, my optimism died. I sat here for fifteen minutes trying to put this nicely, and I can't. The syntax, the spelling, the slang all seem very juvenile. He appears to have limited access to various, nouns, verbs, adjectives, pronouns, etc., as he is forced to use one word for all of the above categories. Maybe a thesaurus would help? I was married to a Canadian hockey player for twenty - five years and I didn't hear f*** this frequently. I'm sorry, I just can't handle this writer any longer.
Although parts of this book, like the first book in the series, were cheesy and cliched, it was strangely addicting. I flew through it and now plan to read the third book. The funny thing is that horror is not usually a preferred genre of mine, unless it is blended with fantasy or paranormal romance. Trust me, there is nothing romantic about the ghosts in this series. For some reason though, these books are like crack to me, lol, and I feel compelled to read the next one.
Really creepy book! I love books where spirits wrongfully taken are given freedom. It seems this series will have other spirits that have been wronged. I am not sure what to think about the “Marrow” only that it does not sound like a good place to be. Now that Robert found out some personal information from Sean, what does this mean? I am moving on to the next book to find more answers to my many questions.
This book left me with way more questions than answers. T started off really good and I love a good psych ward creepy story, but this was something else entirely. Gruesome, demonic, zombie stuff. I couldn't put it down though! Still confused the hell out of me, and left feeling like wtf did I just read?! I originally thought I'd read all the books in this series, but probably won't now as this one just seemed a little too out there for me.
Another scary read! After Book 1, I thought this would be a similar plot but I was wrong ... It was better! 3 of the characters from Book 1 (Shallow Graves) appear in Book 2 but under different circumstances and have to think afresh how to sort out 'another fine mess' they are faced with! My kind of nightmare!!
Thoroughly enjoyed this one much more than the first. Disappointed at the continuous mentioning of Justine's size. Want to know more about The Marrow and The Goat. Hoping for some romance between Robert and Shelley.
This is my second time reading this book. I think I read it for the first time back in 2018 and I really enjoyed it. The way PL describes each scene in the book helps me to visualize them like a movie. Each book in the series gets creepier and creepier. I love it!
You will like this if you are a fan of a genuine ghost story. This book will keep you interested you never know what is going to happen from one book to the next, it always keeps guessing.
This series just keeps getting better. This book is the continuing saga of Robert, Cal, and Shelly. Robert has inherited a huge, run down mansion and he and his friends move in. As with the first book, this is about the paranormal. I would highly recommend this series.
I don't typically like the 2nd better than the first, but I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I found it easier to read through than the first. I can't wait to read the next one!
