Once again Hope Callaghan has done it again! She has made this delightful NY / newly transplanted Savannah residences into crime sleuthing neighbors. I usually get bored with series and often find myself sticking to novels but not so with this series! This ex-Mafia Family trying to escape from the mob, is full of entertainment! This book was a wonderful escape and I love following Carlita and her daughter, Mercedes on their latest adventure. In this book Carlita, Mercedes and Tony (Carlita’s middle son) find a secret tunnel in their basement as well as a few other surprises.
This series is so good and clean that I even got my 10 year old son to listen to the first 3 books on audiobook. He loved them as much as I did!
The only thing missing from this book was the audiobook version. I listened to the first 3 books on audiobook and the narrator was brilliant! I have been waiting for several months for this fourth book to be made into an audiobook with no luck. So I finally decided to read the ebook on kindle unlimited. I still really enjoyed it and even read it with the narrator, Valerie Gilbert’s voice in my head as Carlita spoke.
Carlita Garlucci is thrilled that her son, Tony, has arrived in Savannah to help with the opening of their new pawnshop, "Savannah Swag." They discover a trapdoor to the cellar under their property. The cellar led to a tunnel and in a poorly hidden alcove, they discover underground passageways rumored to have been used by pirates to smuggle their stolen goods into the historic city, which led to other peoples properties. After they had opened the entrance to the network of tunnels, they found that someone else was getting into their property, obviously looking for something. It was probably the things they had found, but the Garlucci family were not going to let them have it. They had found it and are going to keep it.
Carlita Garlucci and her family are about to open their new pawn shop, when they discover a trapdoor to the cellar under their property. The cellar led to a tunnel and in a poorly hidden alcove they made a grim discovery. The tunnel led to other tunnels which led to other peoples properties. Separately, they made a much better and more profitable discovery. After they had opened the entry to the network of tunnels, they found that someone else was getting into their property, obviously looking for something. It was probably the things they had found, but the Garlucci family were not going to let them have it. They had found it and were going to keep it.
What does this all add up too? Another Hope Callaghan mystery, thats what. She moves to Savannah to get away from the Mafia, or did she. Did it follow her to hunt her and her family, that she is so desperately trying to get them all far away from. There's danger and treasure, with Criminals all around them. Not to mention a crazy nosey attendant to keep Out of their family business, along with quiet mother and daughter hiding from her cruel ex husband. Who's still looking for them. Well you're just going to have to read it yourself to find Out the answers to this mystery. Debra H.
I believe I have read nearly every thing hope Callahan has written! It's amazing to me how within one book you can become so attached to the characters in a series that when that series ends , you start missing these characters as though they are your friends. This book is no different. The family is starting to come back together the pawn shop is up and running and questions asked so long ago are finally being answered. I just purchased book number 5. Got to go reading awaits!
Tony telling his Mother that Vinnie her oldest was on the run from the mafia. He gave one of the don’s a lousy insider tip. She was going to open her shop soon, and trying to think of a name, Love the meaning of the name for the pawnshop. It might make people curious about the hot items, and come, and even the police. Checking out the building, curiosity as to what was behind a cabinet. With tools Tony explored and found an item, now what. Another unique puzzling plot to figure out. Enjoyable and nice easy to read story.
I bought this as part of a collection of this authors various series. An enjoyable entertaining cozy mystery. Carlita Garlucci mafia widow has moved to Savannah with her daughter to get away from the life. When giving her son a tour of her new property they stumble on a trapdoor that leads to a tunnel and a skeleton. A well written story from a good storyteller with excellent characters, a decent mystery and the usual cute pets. I have just bought the first three books to catchup with this series. Highly recommended
I highly recommend this series. Good characters, entertaining plot, and at least one side character that I love to hate. Plus it is a quick and upbeat read, just like the other Callaghan books I've read so far. There's no gore, no foul language to speak of, and no steamy scenes, so if those things bug you, you're safe with this one and the others of the same series.
I've read the Garden Girls series and Cruise Ship series and loved every book. The first couple Savannah Series book were good too. This book started out good but I found it hard to keep reading. Just felt thee storyline moved slow and it wasn't as exciting as the others.
Awesome story full of weird and wacky characters! Love all the characters especially the crazy neighbor, everyone knows someone just like her! Lots of fun, misadventures, mystery, and chaos! The family is starting over, and the she is trying to keep her promise to her dead husband! Wacky and fun plot, what a refreshing book!
Now this is a nice layed back cozey the colourful caracters and comic relief here and there made for a fun mystery ,I also always enjoy fallowing the mundane family drama behind all the intreage. If you enjoy a nice leisurely read you've found what you've been looking for. 🙄 Kat
The fourth in the Savannah Mysteries, little by little Carlita is getting her and her families dream of opening their pawnshop. Discovering the underground tunnels opens the adventure and midnight uninvited guests takes the reader through this one. Her two sons Tony and Vinnie join her and Mercedes in experiencing this family adventure.
I waited tio book 4 to really decide if I liked this series and I do! The family is captivating the friends are great the mysteries are real. Still not sure why about Elvira ugh but I guess every clan has one of those types. Mystery, humor, bonding, story development, character development. So now I continue onto #5!!!
I just started reading this series two days ago and now I'm hooked. The characters are wonderful and quirky. The storyline is fast paced and keeps you guessing. I am really enjoying this series, it feels like a vacation from life for awhile.
This is my favorite of the series by far. I love the hunt and exploration that goes on in this story! It will leave readers questioning who it will be and just when you think you know who it is a twist that brings a different possibility to light!
These are cute stories, but I don't like them as much as her Garden Girls and Cruise Ship books. There are inconsistencies in these, and the mystery isn't as realistic to me.
It seems Savannah is built over a large maze of underground tunnels, and Carlita and clan has found one under their property, complete with precious gems and a dead body. Keeping people out, including her terrible tenant, is becoming a full-time job.
I have read #1, #3, and now #4 in this cozy mystery series. They were all Kindle freebies. I think I've given up on them. They are entertaining, but they are a little too simple. I don't really care what happens to the characters; not much depth there.
Again I was not disappointed. Entertainment from beginning to end. Racing to read the end to see what problems the family would have to solve, but also to finish this one in order to start on the next story. Fun and enjoyable reading.
Two down two to go. With the pawn shop up and running one more family member has made the move.nonly two more to go. Trying to run a business and rent out apartments keeps Carlita busy but not busy enough to stay out of trouble.
I enjoyed reading this story about Savannah and the Garluccis. I visited there last year and loved the city. I always enjoy a good mystery, and cozy mysteries are always good.
Finally all of her family are out of Queens and in Savanna. But trouble is still filling their lives. Giving us a good story. Though the whole thing with her sons and the new women in their lives introduced by their mother and sister was predictable.
