In a fading town, far from anyone he knew or trusted, a young Lemony Snicket began his apprenticeship in an organization nobody knows about. He started by asking questions that shouldn't have been on his mind. Now he has written an account that should not be published, in four volumes that shouldn't be read. This is the first volume.
Lemony Snicket had an unusual education and a perplexing youth and now endures a despondent adulthood. His previous published works include the thirteen volumes in A Series of Unfortunate Events, The Composer is Dead, and 13 Words. His new series is All The Wrong Questions.
Being a huge fan of ASOUE I had a feeling I would like this series and I was right! It has the wit and charm of the original series and is much more mystery oriented. Very excited to finally sit down and read these books.
A children's mystery -- and it was wonderful. "Snicket" really has a way with words and descriptions! The mystery was intriguing, the story was interesting, and the characters were endearing. I love this for an 8-10 year old, and I plan to buy the series (4 books) for my goddaughter.
I adore Lemony Snicket, so honestly, I’ll devour anything he writes: good, weird, confusing, whatever. His whimsical writing style always feels like stepping back into my childhood school library, and that alone makes his books special to me.
As for the plot… it fell a little flat. I expected each book to have its own mystery, but this one ends in a way that makes everything feel like one ongoing puzzle. There are about three different mysteries tangled together, and none of them wrapped up the way I hoped. It felt strangely unresolved and even though I didn’t expect everything to be wrapped up in book one (because it is a series) I definitely thought one mystery would be solved.
But even with the storyline being a bit flat, I genuinely loved reading it. The whimsical, quirky writing carried the whole book for me and made the experience worth it. Snicket’s voice is just magical like that.
I’m excited to continue the series, not because the plot blew me away, but because I’ll follow Lemony Snicket anywhere.
I really love books this book by Lemony Snicket. He is a very good author and I'am looking foward two reading more of his literature. have mysteries and interesting plot twist, and this book is the exact thing that i love reading. I really truly recommended this book for the people who love reading mysteries. This book was extremely interesting and i just couldn't put the book down.
Although it plainly states this is just an excerpt, being the first four chapters, I was still disappointed. I don't think this is a good way to market a book.
