Rate this book
When Grace Hastings dashes home to Rock Field, Maine, to the bedside of her critically ill niece, she never dreams she will see Alan Stewart—the man who almost destroyed Grace’s life fifteen years ago! Despite his vows to love her forever and to come back to her, Alan deserted Grace when he joined the army.

But there is no question of totally ignoring the handsome, sexy Alan. In spite of her best efforts, Grace is still attracted to him. Besides, he is the surgeon who saved Daisy’s life, and the young girl wants him to continue treating her. Daisy’s well being her first concern, Grace agrees to let him provide medical care for the girl.

When Alan asks to speak to Grace, she makes it clear to him that the only subject she will discuss is Daisy’s treatment.

Grace also wonders why Daisy’s health is so poor. A wealthy woman, Grace has sent a great deal of money to Daisy’s family each month to help the family, so ample funds were available for the girl’s health needs.

At a party, Alan approaches Grace and asks for one hour of her time. When she refuses, he drops hints that he may know her secret. Panicked, she reluctantly agrees to speak to him him. If her secret is revealed, Grace will not be the only person to suffer. She owns numerous businesses, and a scandal could affect thousands of employees. Furthermore, Daisy could be gravely hurt.
