Luv Singh is a hired gun; he carries out assassinations for an underworld don. The clients are anonymous, so are the targets. Out one night on a job, he awaits his target to climb out of the car that's just arrived at the scene. As he looks through the scope of his rifle, his finger on the trigger, he sees his target accompanied by one of the most gorgeous women Luv has ever Zoya. Zoya Merchant was Luv Singh's girlfriend back in college, almost two decades earlier. He fails to take a shot. He's betrayed Zoya once before; he cannot assassinate her husband. Knowing that the mafia doesn't condone failure or dissidence, he still pledges to save Zoya's husband from whoever's calling the shots. Nothing Else Matters is a riveting tale set alternately in the criminal underworld and Zoya and Luv's college lives, and about making choices that impact lives forever. It is crime fiction, but it is also a heart-breaking romance of a love that never dies. Come, fall in love with its flawed characters that cannot be forgiven, but will always be loved.
This is a classic example of such paperback mysteries which had earned the dubious reputation of having "a cover that shows somebody shot, and a back that tells you what is the plot". For a reader with some experience of noir and hard-boiled styles, this one read like having milk gone sour. The mystery quotient was nil, while emotional stuff lay everywhere. Only saving grace, for whatever its worth, was the lucid prose, which allowed me to get this over with. Not Recommended.
story line in the description has made me read this book. This book story is a different one never heard of. The way story Ends Is good. This book has kept the expectations as mentioned in the story line. How the main male protagonist life changes doing a wrong thing which he does only for extra bucks. In all this book is a GOODREAD...
Cover Page: The cover is apt for the book as per blurb, that there is a sniper, and his lens lands on his ex, and the same are conveyed on the cover. So Kuddos.
Review: The story is about two college lovers who thinks their love will blossom through time and just like a cliched Bollywood movie, the girl from a rich family and boy from poor falls in love. And then lie sets in. what happens is what the story is about.
The positives in the book I liked the bifurcation in the story and it’s ending the other one.
The negatives in the book are its dragging start, which I got bored. The ending was quite predictable from the start. If you are looking for a book that keeps you on your toes with what will happen, this book ain’t for you. The book just describes and jumps from past to present.
I had heard so much about Vish Dhamija that I just had to pick up one of his books. But unfortunately, I was sorely disappointed. Either I just happened to pick the wrong book or his books are just not for me. I am yet to find out which it is and so I may just try another book by the author to give it a chance.
I was surprised to see that this book is among the lower rated books of the author. I actually loved the book. I wonder if the negative reviews were because the readers expected something else because of the author's other works. Looking at this work in isolation, absolutely there are minimal thrills and edge of the seat moments, it is not even a thriller in my view. It falls in the romance genre where the boy in love is actually an assassin out to shoot his lover's husband. And he hesitates, then there is a back story not just of the two protagonists but also involving the other characters. All of the characters were believable. It's tough not to like the flawed hero Luv - even if things don't happen to everyone the way it happens to him, the flaws themselves are so relatable. The female protagonist is not particularly flawed, at least not superficially so, easy to like her and very easy to believe how pretty she is (excellent descriptions). But for me the best character is the villain. The things he does are so cringeworthy, I would not mind reading a book written from his POV. Going against the wind, this is probably my favourite of the author's works.
Unique lead protagonists and the charm of Mumbai made this book quite an arresting read. The author, while going into details of the life of a paid assassin, does not venture too deeply with respect to character sketches apart from the leads. Even the bad guy is straight bad without shades or depth. Having said that, the chemistry between the leads and also the author's nuanced prose made this a worthwhile lead
Every time I read a book of Vish Sir, I found it better then the previous one. Thrilling.... Climax was too good and build up is awesome. Kept me tired to the very end
This has to be one of the worst books by the author. Mumbai college students caught in the drug mule business and the improbable sequence of unfortunate events involving families. While other books of the author are well written best avoid reading this one.
Sir has a very great talent of writing multiple plots simultaneously. Every story shows that talent to us. Talking about this again a very well written and described. So many surprising elements. Full of drama n thriller. Ending totally unexpected and brilliantly written.
Thrilling, Suspenseful, one of the best I have read. Back and Forth in time story reveals one by one. Till the end you imagine something or think of a climax, it never happens. Wonderful read on a stretch. Can't put it down. Vish Dhamija, you have made me read all your titles now. Loved it.
