God declares us righteous, not based on obedience to the law, our behavior past or present or our religious affiliation. God declares us righteous by faith in the finished work of Christ. Our righteousness is a grace gift from God which He paid for in full! This is the gospel. Being righteous is not about living apart from sin, it is about living life the way God created us to live it, living life to the fullest (John 10:10).
