Why on earth would you read in German?
Even Mark Twain said, “When a German dives into a sentence, you won’t see him again until he emerges at the other end with the verb between his teeth.” So, isn’t reading German just frustrating and tiring, making you want to rip the pages out of the book?! Well, it doesn’t have to be. This is where books like the Einfach Deutsch lesen series come in, which prove that reading can boost your language knowledge and be enjoyable at the same time.
What is our motto?
Plot and characters always come first. Offering stories the room they need to evolve is paramount to creating depth and to breathing life into the characters.
Vocabulary and grammar are then adapted to the level indicated on the book cover. These levels are based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Familiar vocabulary is reinforced and new words are gradually introduced in context, without causing the reader frustration.
What can you await from the Einfach Deutsch lesen series?
You can
engaging stories with twists and turns that will keep your attention until the very last page
three-dimensional characters you can laugh and cry with (mostly laugh with, though)
realistic and authentic dialogues
reinforcement of vocabulary through subtle repetition, while allowing you to pick up new words as you go along, in stories that are written entirely in German
German-English translation of new and important words at the end of each chapter or, in the more recent books, at the bottom of the page
free downloadable vocabulary, comprehension and grammar exercises (with solutions), which can also be used as teaching material in classrooms
lots of giggles and heaps of fun – most importantly!
Have you been memorizing hundreds of words on Duolingo? I'm so happy that I've read this book, because it's finally made learning German fun. All I want to do now is read books like these. I'm definitely going to read the other books by this author and then gradually move on to more difficult books. Reading this book has been a major breakthrough for me in terms of grammar, vocabulary, and understanding German culture.
The story itself is fun and engaging and easy to follow. The various situations throughout the book give opportunities to learn an assortment of vocabulary.
A Series of Scenes This is the next in this series of this German graded reader series, at level A1/A2. The scenes are interesting on an adult level of learning, and are filled with surprising twists along the way.
Again there is much variety here in this one book, with many new key vocabulary which is reinforced throughout, but in the normal everyday way we use language. This creates not only interesting phrases the German speaker will want to use in the real world, but it makes for some very funny situations. I really enjoyed re-reading many whole paragraphs because of the phraseology.
I recommend this series for anyone learning German, and I think it will appeal to adults of all ages. Like all of the graded readers, I've read the whole thing through three times, and will probably read it a few more times. It is a charming story and very reinforcing for new language learners.
I read this in my German studies, and honestly, for a book written for learners, this book went above and beyond. Cute story with a satisfying ending. It was really well written! I love when these learner series actually make books GOOD instead of just a means for a quick cash grab. Absolutely loved this cute and quick read! Nothing too profound but for what it is supposed to be, I think it's nearly as good as it can get.
Dynamic plot of a detective peppered with nitty-gritty words and details. The reading was a breeze. My heartfelt hat-tip goes to Jenny (germanwithjenny dot com) und an Die Autorin.
Entertaining storyline with simple sentence structure makes this a great book for intermediate German learners. I'm in the process of reading everything she writes
I didn't enjoy it as much as the two Frauenschuh books by the same writer, but I have really enjoyed being able to read a book in German without help. This book is perfectly written to make it entertaining and easy to read for a relative beginner.
Wow just wow! The stories are very interesting. I got so engrossed in them, I didn't check vocabulary much , I didn't care for it. I cared about the characters. I am so glad Petra didn't get back with that blöd Jürgen. I loved this book.

I think it is a good book to start reading in German. The words used are not so artistic and unusable in real life. Unfortunately I did not like the plot so much. And I failed to feel myself attached to any of the characters. Their behavior most of the time seemed cringy, to my taste.
La descripción de diferentes historias a través de un bolígrafo perdido. Algunas de las narraciones resultan inverosímiles o absurdas y al final del libro descubrimos el porqué. Muy divertido libro para practicar mi alemán.
First German book! An easy read (but I took some time 😅). Felt proud that I actually can read a German book and understood what was happening. 🥲 Story was kinda whimsical.
I have read 7 books by this author and I really enjoyed all of her books. Actually I read them not only once but at least two times. The first time I read just as a novel, but the second or third time I read them to learn new vocabularies.
Ich habe dieses Buch gern gelesen. Die Geschichte ist sehr gut geschrieben und hat mich bis zum Ende gefesselt. Ich habe mit Kindle und dem Hörbuch zusammen gelesen und dabei viel gelernt.
