The only thing more shocking than getting sold by my boyfriend? Who he sold me to...
JUNE: Over the years with Razo, I've learned to keep my mouth shut. Learned not to fight back. Learned that talking only makes it bad…fighting only makes it worse. I shut down my feelings long ago. Because it’s the only way to survive.
But then Razo sells me…
…to a dangerous biker with zero morals and a sick upbringing. A psycho who makes me feel like I have a flock of ravens inside my stomach. He never hesitates to remind me: I belong to him now.
And he'll do just about anything to keep me.
Crazy. Psycho. Killer.
MASON: I know I'm crazy. I know I'm scary. And I definitely know I don't got no business buying some girl off a gang leader I'm supposed to be selling guns to. Fact is, her kind and my kind…we ain't never supposed to mix.
See, I know all this. But I don't care.
She belongs to me now. Don’t matter how I got her, only that I'm keepin' her. And no matter what it takes, I'm going to make her mine in all the ways that count.
Nobody and nothing is going to keep us apart.

Oh my goodness, another excellent 50 loving States story!
Mason, the SFK enforcer and the most hardcore of the Fairgoods was my favorite brooding hero. On first impression, he was a very unlikeable anti hero guy but Mason immediately grew on me and changed for the good to become a very devoted and passionate hero. June, the quiet and abused heroine -- well let's just say her silence spoke volumes due mainly to Theodora Taylor's creative use of symbolism and the ingenious craft of her tats and love of Jordan. No spoilers here about sweet Jordan!
As with all Theodora Taylor's heroes and heroines you see their transformations from page one till the epilogues but for me with "His to Own" June and Mason left me with goosebumps because of their haunting pasts and how they help each other so daringly to become a strong and memorable couple!
So readers, I strongly recommend "His to Own" and give it 5+++++ memorable stars!!!!!!!!!!
1. It was a decent read, but it could have been a lot better. 2. I did not like the way it made me feel. 3. Because it was part of Theodora Taylor's "50 Loving States" series, I stuck with it, but I must say that I did skip past some of the grittier parts in the last 25% of the book. 4. The pornalicious dialogue was over the top. (When will these authors ever learn that too much graphic sex is unnecessary???!!! The measure of one's talent shows up in the pacing, plot, character development, and captivation factor of a book. Sex is just one dimension and it is supposed to season a story, not overwhelm it.. Can we have more story please???!) 5. The epilogue should have been different. Enough said.
I l♥ved this story. Mason is a l♥vable brute, gentle giant and a mean mfr and I don't mean manufacturer!
I thought it was really clever how Theodora sets up Mason's story to take place at the same time Dixon's story is happening. Though the ending distracted me and I wished that it ended solely with Mason and June in a quiet reflective moment, I still l♥ved the book and it will go on my Top Ten Favorites Book List.
L♥ve this couple and I hope to catch a glimpse of them in upcoming books.
Firstly, I wanted more of the rough, pseudo D/s dynamic between Mason and June. I was waiting for Theo to take it there. That seemed like a natural development and would have been stellar. But, again, I think this author is tired and needs some rejuvenation.
Secondly, I'm still not comfortable with this new reformed white supremacist lover sub genre, even though Theo works her way around it. But still, disturbing AF. Where the hell is this trope coming from? Does any other group do this? Like are there Auschwitz romances between a Nazi and a Jew? Anyway...
Not a fan of white supremacist turned non-racist trope. Confounded by Mason purchasing June like a slave. Then, I found the inclusion of the kid an unnecessary plot device, and he was more annoying than cute.
Also the end felt rushed. Not sure why the author chose to write herself into the story. It added nothing to the storyline.
There was just too much pain in this book for my liking. Too much realism and not enough escapism. 3.5 stars
Would have given this a 5 Star had it not been so short and rushed. Storyline was good as fuck until it rapidly ended with a weird ending. So wanted the scene in the hospital. A crying Jordan who would run out and see that the only woman that he's known as a mom lying there bleeding and not responsive. A Christmas where all of the Fairgood men and wives meet. The process that June went through to conceive. The move from Arkansas. I just anticipated more and feel extremely cheated. Theodora is a great writer, but I feel so let dowm from this sto
Review on its way! ********************* His to Own is the story of Mason and June. If you've read “Them Fairgood Boys” or the standalone “His Forbidden Bride” you'll recognize Mason as the cousin of “D” and Colin Fairgood. You'll also recall that Mason is a homegrown white nationalist. Yup, this is the love story of a racist white man who falls in love with an African-American woman and the little boy that she cares for. Intrigued? Disgusted? Confused? Believe me, I felt all of these things too. The funny thing is, I actually liked the story.
By now you've read the blurb. Racist Mason runs into sweet and abused June while doing “business” with a Mexican gang. He can't quite take his eyes off of her and before you know it he's bought her and the little boy from her boyfriend. That's right, a racist man buys a black woman. Brings thoughts of slavery to mind don't it. Yup, it triggered my “fuck nah!” response as well. But I was determined and kept reading. The result? A story about two people who overcome obstacles and go through fantastic growth and change to find love. As implausible as that is Theodora Taylor makes it work.
As usual, Theodora brings the drama. This is a book that you can't wait to find out what's going to happen and how the couple is going to make it work. I loved June and the fact that she was a fighter. Despite all of the bad that happened to her, she ultimately remained strong as a person. The character of Jordan was great. He the soccer loving chatterbox to June's silent endurance. Jordan held onto his good spirit no matter what. Mason was a strong character with a soft and somewhat broken center. I expected him to be a little harder than he actually turned out to be and I wish that he had been something other than a racist.
I'm sure you're thinking “but you loved His Forbidden Bride” and you're right. I did love it 100%. The thing is, I didn't know who or what Dixon was. I came to love the character so forgiving him and believing his journey was easy for me. He met Anitra with his prejudice filter turned all the way off. He was able to see her without having to gaze through the veil of his racism and preconceived beliefs. Mason didn't have amnesia. He knew who he was and how he felt. His thoughts were quite plain and vile at the beginning. The part of me that can't turn off my disbelief finds the idea that he could so quickly fall in love with June and become a hero is just too unbelievable. While it isn't 100% impossible, it isn't likely to happen. Not with someone like Mason who was raised to hate. My feelings are complicated on this subject because racism is such a pervasive problem and the idea of racist buying and owning a WOC just hits me the wrong way. Even if it is just fiction.
Despite my hesitation on the racism part of the story, I love Theodora Taylor's writing and if anyone could get me past my concerns regarding Mason and his past it was her. Her writing flows and you won't want to put it down. That said, I recommend His to Own if you feel you can get past the idea of a racist owning a WOC. I know some won't be able to do that. But it is a good piece of fiction if you can and ultimately you won't be disappointed, even if you do wish Mason were something other than a racist. The message, I suppose, is that anyone can change.
I'm giving His to Own 3.5 to 4-star rating. * I received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review*
Mason is the enforcer for a notorious biker gang with extreme alt-right viewpoints. In the middle of a shady deal with the leader of a street gang, everything changes when he sees her. Circumstances find June raising a kid in an abusive relationship. She thought things couldn't be worse, until her boyfriend sells her on a whim to a dangerous stranger.
The Good: 1. Though it threw me for a loop at first, liked that this book tackled deeper social issues than others I've read by her.
2. Also appreciated the heroine being a tattoo artist, very different, and added a cool factor.
3. Mason was very scary in the beginning, and his depiction was realistically unflattering.
4. This could have gone to a very dark place, but happy the writer reined it in a bit.
5. This unlikely couple ended up very believable.
6. The slow burn was an excellent way to meld everything organically.
7. The kid added to the story, and humanized the hero a lot.
8. Black hair realness is strong in this one. In the beginning she wore a weave, and then wore it natural. Though one had to wonder how she got the money to buy hair, when the ex was barely feeding her. I do know abusers will gladly pay for things that visually stimulate them, over taking care of basic needs of their partners, so going with that theory.
The Bad: 1. The epilogue featuring the author is supposed to come off cute, but this reader was too annoyed by the almost-cliffhanger to appreciate it.
2. This works as a standalone read, but some of Mason’s issues obviously happen in another book. I’m still confused about a lot of the things regarding the club. *Luckily they are included as bonus features in my copy of this book.
Final Thoughts: I really enjoyed this despite the lackluster ending, can’t wait to read more in this series.
Mason an SKF Enforcer only knows a couple of things How sell guns to gangs His love of bikes And how to stay with his on kind Well, that is until he meets June... Seeing her with an abusive asshat of boyfriend has him doing the unthinkable.
At first I wasn't sure if I wanted to read this story. Ms. Theodora gave out warning that it could be triggering. So of course my mind went to "Oh boy not another asshole of a alpha read." But that wasn't the case this time around with the hero. The problem lie more with Razo and his awful treatment ofJune. And also with Mason home life with his parents as a child. Being in some some type of abuse; be it domestic violence or growing up in that type of environment. I feel this book could be a trigger warning and glad that Ms. Theodora put that warning out there.
I really enjoyed this book and Mason is probably my favorite Fairgood now. Sorry Colin you been dethroned. Of course with most Theodora books you already know you're going to get good meaty development for the h/H and it did not disappoint. Well... not to me anyhow.
PROS -It was 3rd person (I freaking love those the best). -The sex was HOT. -I like the way Ms. Theodora paced June journey throughout the book. -Jordan❤️❤️❤️
So obviously this is my new favorite thing. I loved June and Mason. So fantastic. Growth and depth all around. TT is my favorite, but this is one of my favorites out of everything she's written. Steamy sex! The epilogue was a little weird to me, but that's okay. 5 stars! No 10 stars! All the stars.
Still absolutely love this book. I think I loved it even more this time. I did notice the racist language in the first couple chapters more this time, so please note the beginning is a bit distasteful, but stick with it and I promise you, it will pay off.
-----------
The focus here was less on Mason being a White Nationalist, since Mason walked away from that life fairly early in the story for reasons mostly unrelated to June. It was more on the relationship between the two that had to grow from a foundation built on Mason 'buying' June from a Mexican gang leader. Once you get past that horrifying start, this story is just everything. Loved the pacing, loved the fact that June didn't just fall into Mason's arms, that he didn't expect her to or even ask. No kiss, no unwanted touching, no demands. He did for her and Jordan, giving them the ability to build a life and care for themselves, and June did just that. I loved the tattoo angle. I loved how they came together. I loved that Mason had that issue of not being able to be in rooms with closed doors or windows, and how both June and the kid helped him overcome that. This story made me happy.
The author weirdly injecting herself into the epilogue was just, no, but it's definitely a story I would read again.
Strong entry to Ms. Taylor's "50 Loving States" series. Readers first met Mason in Dixon's story, "His Forbidden Wife" and his own story did not disappoint.
Mason is rough around the edges and due to his horrific childhood, has several issues related to race and violence. He's a big guy who can put a hurt on someone but at the same time, he's loyal to those he loves. June also comes from a place of pain, years spent being a punching bag and degraded daily. She's a quiet soul whose light was snuffed out by a monster.
I really enjoyed the relationship between them. There is instant chemistry between Mason & June but it took time for them to give in to it thanks to circumstance as well as to grow from their initial reservations and confusions toward each other. By the end of the novel, you can see that these two are totally soulmates.
It starts off slow then the characters starts to develop, then the book becomes really interesting then it abruptly ends leaving you hanging....really? Then there is one of her older books...which I read already. So disappointed
For as far back as he can remember, Mason was taught to hate anyone that was different from him. So why is he about to make what he considers to probably be the biggest mistake of his life, and to do anything he can to remove a woman and child, who couldn't be more different than him, from a situation that he knows is not safe? June promised Jordan that after both of their mothers died that she would always be there for the little boy, but how could she take care of him when she had no means to take care of herself. Their current situation wasn't any where near perfect, but isn't it better to stay with the devil you know rather than be sold off to the devil you don't? Well, they are about to find out. I have to admit, after being introduced to Mason in a previous book, I wasn't sure that I would even want to read his story. But I'm really glad that I did. There couldn't be two more different people who were better off together than they are apart than June and Mason. These two help each other heal and grow in ways that neither could have ever dreamed of. It was more than chemistry that worked with this couple, it was they way they complimented each other and helped the other to realize that damaged souls and broken hearts, with the right person, can truly mend. After reading His To Own, I have to say that although I have loved all of the Fairgood Men, that Mason is definitely my favorite. I'm giving this one 5 heart melting stars!
I can't say how much I enjoyed reading this couples journey. Separately they had such issues, such a deep-rooted issues. Both learning at a young age how very hard life can be. By chance these two damaged souls meet, and not under the best of circumstances. June thinks she's jumped from the frying pan into the fire when she's purchased from one devil, by another. Mason can't figure out what made him buy a black women, given his views on "things" but he can't seem to ignore his need to own her. This was one of my favorite TT stories. Just the openness between them, it took them a minute but once they got it, they got it. They realized both of them were damaged, all three really, but they did their best to help the other let go of the past. Mason was a huge surprise for me. He was a huge, sexy, delicious surprise and he made an already lovable and strong June and Jordan seem that much more special. This was a hot one too and I enjoyed every bit of heat coming off my iPad. If the bath didn't grab me, dragon talk sure did. This was a fantastic story, and it's always fun when Theodora drops in. I'm already on reread mode, that's how much I love this couple and their love take flight.
This is June and Mason's story. Mason is a white Supremacist who sees June who is being ill-treated by her current man and he has feelings for her and buys her to get her out of the hell she is currently living in.
I enjoyed this story because it shows how the love/trust grew between the two. They both come from broken lives and they heal each other. I really enjoyed reading their story. I would highly recommend this story.
This book here! This was entertainment at its best. I was so into this book, I had go back and read some parts twice. At first, I didn't know about Mason, but he turned out to be my hero, and June, this poor child here; went through pure hell and somehow Mason dragged her through it and pulled her out of it. Ms. Theodora Taylor put her foot in this book. Great, highly entertaining read that I could see myself reading again. Loved it!
Theodora Taylor just became one of my favorite authors. I've read three of her books for three days straight and not only did I not want to put it down I'm about to buy everyone she's put out! Her writing is impeccable, her stories are thought- provoking and the depth is to be admired! In awe and really at a loss of words. Keep writing Ms. Taylor!
Okay, so I really do not get all the love this book has received. It, in all honesty, just was not all that great a read for me.
It had a great premise and starting point, but it lacked everything to turn it into the poignant tale the author was clearly reaching for, considering the main characters/plight; but failing to deliver... Much fell flat and too much felt forced.
I can however get why those who still loved this book, hated the Epilogue. Because it was cringe worthy to say the least. Come on Ms. Taylor. What you wrote in the Epilogue could have easily been conveyed through the characters themselves. SHOULD have been told through them. Especially after the way that final chapter had closed. Inserting YOURSELF into this story, in the manner that you did was just lazy, poor taste, and wrong. I felt cheated out of what could have been at least, a possibly decent ending to this saga.
Now I've read this one out of order, because based on the reviews and the teaser, it was the one I was most interested in reading immediately. I rarely do this, but in this case I'm glad I did because this book was a disappointment to me on many levels. The 2 star rating is because it somehow kept me curious to see how it all would end and I was still secretly hoping this book would flourish past the potential it carried, but sadly it didn't.
Did I like the characters? Yes. Was I rooting for them? Absolutely. Mason and June... were not the problem for me. Their story, or rather how it was told was the problem. The way it was executed just did not do them justice. I literally saw 6 different avenues as I was reading, that this book could have gone in. And it would have been a 6 star read for me had it gone in either of those directions....
Still, with all that being said, I want to read books 1 and 2. And I'll continue on with book 2 and work my way down to 1, since 3 is where I started.. Hopefully books 1 & 2 goes a much better way for me.
But I wouldn't in all honestly recommend this read. If you're reading the series in order, then of course you're going to want to finish it with this one. Just don't expect much or to be blown away with book 3. Especially if books 1 & 2 were great reads for you.
This is my review and how I see it. In His to Own, author Theodora Taylor, this interracial tale where a white racist falls for a black woman. She explores the story of Mason Fairgood whom we first met in ‘The Forbidden Bride.’ This story [my opinion] runs of parallel with Dixon’s story as they are both selling arms for the SFK. Don’t get it twisted the differences between Mason’s and Dixson’s story are visible.
Mason is an alpha male with a heart of gold and he proves it in this story. Mason is selling arms to Razo when Jordan (a kid with a soccer ball) hits Mason’s prized motorcycle. June jumps in front of Jordan thinking Mason is going to shoot Jordan (well maybe he was), for her trouble June is punished by Razo. Mason ask Razo how much does he want for June (Mason really can’t believe what he is doing) and Razo makes him an offer which includes Mason motorcycle to sweeten the deal and Razo adds Jordan with the deal.
Mason/June: Both have had a hard knocks life and have in their own way dealt with abuse from others yet they final find comfort and love with each other. It was a rocky road that leads them there. When Mason comes back after being gone for months and their sense in the bathroom when June cannot resist bathing him is one of my favorites in this story.
June/Jordan: They tragically lost their mothers to drugs at the same time and became prisoners of Jordan’s cousin Razo for six hellish years suffering his abuse only to be freed and later brought back to their nightmare again.
Theodora: who did not see that coming. At first, I was like huh, wait a minute, what happen to June, Jordan and Mason.
Ms. Taylor, you did that with the epilogue. If you don’t like interracial of white racist who falls in love with a black woman, this book is not for you. If you believe that love can conquer all, even hate and a white racist can fall in love with a black woman then this is a book for you to read.
If you want to know what happened with Mason in L.A. you will need to read the Dixon’s story.
Complimentary copy provided by author for an honest review.
I think Mason is my favorite Fairgood. This story is just...everything. I love all the Fairgood stories equally but Mason is my favorite guy and that's saying a lot since Colin and Dixon are just yummy. Please keep the magic coming Mrs Taylor and I will continue to read it.
Mason is one of my favorite heroes. I loved this story so much even though when I read the description I did not expect to like Mason but I was so wrong. I couldn't bring myself to take a break once I started reading this story. It was so good.
This book was really good although there were times when I wasn't sure if I liked the premise. The anti-hero, Mason, was featured in some earlier books in the series. He belongs to a white racist nationalist group and is the cousin of Dixon, who was the lead character of a previous book. Like Dixon, Mason begins to have a change of heart about belonging to the group when he stumbles on June, an African American woman who is being held captive by a Mexican gang and Jordan, the little boy that is a relative of the gang leader but who June takes care of. When Mason sees June being beaten by the gang leader he buys her from them. Now, I know that modern day slavery exists and human trafficking is rampant world wide but I still wasn't in love with this theme.
But the characters slowly but surely start to grow on you. I couldn't fathom what June saw in Mason but as the story evolves, you can tell that Mason is falling in love with June in a macho, Neanderthal kind of way. They both have a ton of baggage, but that also helps them connect in ways and understand each other in ways that most folks would not get. I do applaud the author for tackling the racial issues since most romance books won't touch this topic with a ten foot pole. It was also nice to see June become more assertive and find her own voice, something that Mason loved and really encourage. It was also nice to see her finally be fulfilled as a whole woman both emotionally and sexually.
Shout out to Theodora Taylor for reminding why I first fell in love with her work. I've been critical of Ms. Taylor's last few stories because the men were pretty abusive towards the women due to their own damage and upbringing. This time Ms. Taylor does an excellent job of illustrating love that doesn't have to be abusive just because the person comes from a damaged past. Mason goes out of his way to prove to June that he's not his father and that he can be a better person. June was so sweet and had a hard time expressing herself in words but is able to express her love in actions towards Mason and Jordan who she sacrificed her life for. This story has become my favorite in the series, I love it when authors bring new stories and characters to their readers. Kuddos again to Ms. Taylor
First, let me say I was introduced to this author thru her Russian billionaire series (loved it) so I quickly gave this story a chance...stories about motorcycle clubs are always hot. Also, the book offered up the two other Fairgood guys to read about so I thought it was a win/win situation. But June and Mason were all that! They were meant to be together; their love was complicated and simple at the same time. Nothing beats an Alpha male manning up and changing for love. The added bonus...the love they both had for Jordan. I was not so much a fan of Colin and Kyra (Blue, Purple, Green, Liz). Their story (His For Keeps) did nothing for me like His to Own. I didn't feel a true connection in their story. His Forbidden Bride was so far out in left field that I couldn't help but enjoy it. Still chuckling at John/Woods and Doc/Nitra (amnesia, reality tv, and white supremacists groups)...wow. I'll continue to be a fan.
Mason and June's love story starts out in dismal circumstances, but their love sprouted into bloom. I loved it! They fit together like puzzle pieces despite having nearly an impossible beginning. Couldn't get enough of these three. Such a heartrending story that makes you fall for the characters. I'm not completely satisfied with the epilogue, but I adore these two characters and their little family.
