Being healthy in this crazy, busy, modern world is not easy.
For journalist Shannon Harvey, finding a solution to this problem became personal when she was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease that had no known cause and no known cure. After being told by her doctor that she could end up in a wheelchair, she realised she had to take action.
This inspired a ten-year journey, where she spent more than $30,000 on conventional and alternative treatments, searched through thousands of scientific papers, and traveled the world to interview dozens of pioneering health researchers from leading institutions such as Harvard and Stanford. On her road to getting better she met people with remarkable stories of recovery, discovered the truth amidst conflicting medical advice and sorted the quacks from the experts. She has now compiled the latest evidence and her personal experiences into one book to help you find the answers to good health.

As a journalist and filmmaker she spent many years working for leading news organisations such as the ABC and Fairfax. She’s the recipient of the National Press Club of Australia’s “Health Journalist of The Year” award and now produces a popular blog and podcast, whilst balancing her health and being the mother of two adventurous boys.
Whether you are enjoying total health (and would like to keep it that way ) or are experiencing a less-than-healthy condition of any kind, this is a good book to read and work through. I have purchased the book after watching Shannon's incredible documentary The Connection: mind your body (theconnection.tv), because I wanted to know more. The book did not disappoint. Every chapter, every major point of the book is backed by well-researched material, quoting numerous scientific studies and ongoing research. The book references the author's personal experience, but also provides keys and access to wealth of additional information and tools. I would definitely recommend this book to everyone for general awareness, deeper understanding of each point (if one chooses to study and research further - there are tons of references!) and just to reinforce the principles of health and happiness that most of us have heard about, but perhaps did not realize the degree of their significance and true impact on the quality of our health.
I loved this book! As a person who has been fighting Fibromyalgia for over ten years and has done a lot of research, I have found most of the lessons outlined in the book, but also further avenues to explore.
The blend of research and personal story makes for an easy to read, compelling, evidence-based case for following the steps in The Whole Health Life.
If only sleep for me could be achieved by following these easy to follow steps as it did for the author. Nevertheless it is well worth the read if you are facing a chronic illness or just want to invest in your health - don't get dragged into ill-health by our culture's fast paced, burn out risking standards. Start meditating, prioritise sleep, go for a walk, have a snuggle with your partner or have an apple at morning tea time today, just start!
Shannon's documentary, blog and book have been incredibly powerful in helping me make dramatic shifts in not only my own health but also that of my husband and children. The way Shannon researches and checks every fact makes this book very credible. There is a gold mind of valuable information in here and it is presented in a very easy to read format. I read this book twice and am constantly recommending it to people unknown who want to improve their health.
