Over the winter of his freshman year, Cody Canada accepts a baseball scholarship to a small Christian school in Oklahoma sight unseen. He soon meets Brandon St. Andre, who goes by Saint, a 'Good Will Hunting' meets Mickey Mantle type who might earn himself a pro contract if he can navigate through his final college season. During that spring in Oklahoma, Cody meets his mentor, the love of his life and learns about baseball, Copenhagen and why triples are better than sex. This could be the last season for the Southern Christian Eagles, an underachieving program with a bawdy reputation on campus. Can they beat the cocky rivals at Oklahoma Nazarene in that final spring? The Eagles are rowdy, rag tag bunch with one win a conference title for their aging coach Red Rumbaugh. See the story of Saint through Cody's eyes as he adapts to the virginal culture of a Christian college that contrasts with the R-rated machismo of a college baseball team. This is the story of small college baseball in its purest sense as the narrator comes of age with Saint starring as the devil on his shoulder.
