"In a Daze Work" is a choose-your-own-adventure book for adults. As a kid who grew up in the 80s and 90s, I loved, loved, loved choose-your-own-adventure books! Even without having to pick the next page, books have always felt interactive to me but the CYOA books always had that extra oomph of super interactivity that I loved. I was excited to see what a CYOA geared for adults might look like!

So how does this genre work for adults? Well (if you have Siobhan Gallagher's wit and adorable illustrations at the helm). This book takes us through a normal day of either work during the week or (relative) pleasure during the weekend. Adventure may be a bit too cheery of a description for what for most adults is just life. Gallagher makes us laugh at ourselves though, which is really where the true beauty of the book lies!

I could see this book being a good gift for a friend that just needs a good laugh. I had fun going through the book a few times just to see if I would find something new to laugh at during my journeys (and I did). This book is a lot of fun!

This book was so much fun to read. It was a nostalgic take on the old "choose your own adventure" books from my youth, which is a fun and interesting twist! As I was reading I was thinking, "How does she know me so well". It was like she was in my house with me. I was dying laughing when I came upon the page about the pimple (the struggle is real). What a great book and one I will certainly read over and over because I can make different choices along the way. Sheer genius and so much fun! I highly recommend this book for yourself or for your coworker as a fun and unexpected gift. In love with this book...seriously in L.OV.E.!!!!!

A very cute book that might make a fun present for someone if you're in need of one. A bit more emotionally resonant and specific than I was expecting, which was fun. Really cute illustrations and a unique take on the ~ 20-something millennial ~ life.

This was fun to go through. I read many choose your adventure books in elementary school so this was a great reminder of those. I didn't relate to the scenarios in this book and might have enjoyed one more that was more relevant to my life situation, but it was fun nonetheless. The drawings are great!

I can remember when I was younger sitting in the library for hours just reading "choose your own adventure" books. The best part is that every experience was never the same. You had so many options to choose from with the end result being different. We need more of these types of books for adults. Thus the reason, I was intrigued to check out this book.

Author, Siobhan Gallagher provides a fun twist to the daily life of adulting. The situations presented in this book are realistic. Everyone from twenty somethings to older can relate. Have fun reading this book and making choices (not going to say "good choices) as you navigate through this book. Heck, be lazy or hang with friends. The options are endless. In a Daze Work is just what you need in your life. Pick up a copy for your friends as well.

I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway. I was a child in the '80s and grew up checking out Choose Your Own Adventure books from the library. This is a similar concept, except those were big on fantasy, and this book is reality. My favorite part about this book is the illustrations; they are simple at times, and amazingly complex at times. The "daze" I have gone through so far are pretty boring, but they do seem to reflect what might be a typical day in the city. I don't live in the city, so I can only relate through what I've seen on TV, read about, or imagined. I think this book will be a lot more fun in 10 or 20 years, when it turns into nostalgia for what life was like in 2017 for the single working city-dweller.

I love choose-your-own-plot books, as they are so engaging and fun. Every time I end up reading every page so that I can know every ending. And this is no exception.

From small talk to dating to death, in a daze work is an exciting, playful new spin on the minute and mundane decisions that make up your daily life. Each flip of the page put you in control of the story: Will you wake up now or sleep in? Will you stay in or go out? How will you navigate a bad date or a party full if cookie-cutter couples? More importantly, where will your decision take you?

All the endings are quite fun.

This book is like the adult version of those pick-your-adventure books we used to like in our childhood.

It's cute, the illustrations are really good, and some outcomes made me laugh. But I just expected it to be a little bit more encouraging. I know adulting is harsh but for me, it can be exciting too. In this book, adulting is sort of portrayed like it is boring and monotonous like no matter what choices you have, it will all end up with almost the same outcome.

I picked up this book for my no-agenda agenda read. 😊 I found myself snorting at the sarcasm/humor of the character. At times I can relate to the train of thoughts. Haha, oh yes because it was me who's deciding its fate based on the options I choose. Fun and very light, just something to relax the mind.

Choose-your-own-adventure kinda books just throw me back into nostalgia. A fun book, which makes a hilarious gift for a friend. Some parts hit close to home, like the socialising bit, which were illustrated with quirky, relatable characters and scenarios. My only grouse is that it’s too short!

Love this book so much! It's a simple interactive story about going through your day, but the illustrations and narration have so much charm and humour in them that one can't help but read it over and over again.

This book is pretty much a choose-your-story book. But for adults. And for every day life. It's really great. Take your time reading it, and read it several times.

Some funny storylines in the vein of "choose your own adventure" but overall depressing choices and outcomes.

Should have read a Goosebumps...

As a child, I was a huge fan of choose-your-own-adventure books. It feels like just about every time we got to order from Scholastic, one of those books would end up on my list. I still remember successfully escaping from aliens. (And also dying several times first!) So I was super excited to read In a Daze Work as soon as I heard about it. Seriously, how awesome is it that someone wrote a choose-your-own-adventure book about real adult life?

Siobhan Gallagher hit every note in the new adult symphony. The reader must negotiate the snooze button hazard, the morning commute, squeezing in lunch, goofing off at work, relationship stuff, and what to do in the all-important after work hours. Plus, there are extra adventures if you choose to wake up on a weekend morning rather than a weekday.

Although Gallagher’s writing is sharp and her illustrations amusing, I did not enjoy this book the way I expected to. The tone was unrelievedly disheartening, and no choice led to an actually happy outcome. It reminded me of the comic strip Cathy, but without the funny parts. Given my reading experience with In a Daze Work, I think I must not be part of her target audience. For me, this book was worth two and a half birdies, but I’m bumping it up to three because I think part of the problem may be with me as a reader.

IN A DAZE WORK is clever, hilarious, and spot-on. I loved that as I "chose my own adventure", a new option or obstacle presented itself. And as days have passed and choices are made, I still haven't seen all that this book has to offer. This reveals a bigger picture that, maybe I need to make some new choices and take some chances in my every day life.

I appreciate the humor depicted in every day life or making seemingly simple choices and were that can lead you. What's really funny is that I see myself as a social person, but with every path I choose, I avoided people at every turn. Now I wonder, is that what I do in real life?!

Favorite Quote:
"Hit the snooze button you know you want to" - pretty much how I start EVERY DAY

This book cracked me up. I love the subtle gems of humor, the illustrations, and the nostalgic feeling of reading a "choose your own adventure" book. IN A DAZE WORK would make a great gift for friends who enjoy office humor, friends stuck in the daily grind, and friends who just need a good laugh.
