Then I had found part 2 of this series. I loved the second part of the story of Alfie. All the adventures a cat can have and how he always finds a way to be the hero of the day. I have read this book in one day just to know the story and I found book 3. Looking forward to it.

Warm and cozy. Actually, Alfie talks a lot of sense and of course, through his generous nature he encourages the readers to be better hoomans. Very lovely. A smile was plastered across my face all the while I read. Highly transporting book!

Alfie è tornato, più convinto che mai a rendere felici i suoi amici umani. anche quelli che stanno in disparte, i nuovi arrivati in Edgar Road, che appaiono misteriosi e "minacciosi" per la quiete della strada.
Certamente non è fresco quanto il primo, i temi trattati sono appena accennati, ma allo stesso tempo non possono essere approfonditi perché la storia ci viene raccontata dal punto di vista di un gatto, il quale non conosce la complessità della vita umana. Alfie è un micetto adorabile, tutti noi gattari vorremmo averne uno così... e che pensi alla nostra felicità ci fa ancora più desiderare un amico peloso simile.

Un libro tenerissimo narrato in prima persona dal gatto Alfie, che già avevo incontrato nella prima rocambolesca avventura. Adesso Alfie è tranquillo, ha diversi umani che badano a lui e lo considerano "loro" e si divide regolarmente tra due e più case. Intanto cerca di risolvere i problemi di tutti coloro a cui tiene in modo gattesco, anche se, naturalmente, la pensa in modo molto più umanizzato di un gatto vero. E, questa volta, è anche alle prese con l'amore...

It doesn't matter whether you own/love cats or not, Alfie is definitely someone who will put a smile on your face. He is witty, charming, friendly and above all kind. He is willing to do anything for his human and cat friends, so if you're into something that is going to make you laugh and brighten up your day then this book is something you must read.

Considering how much I loved Alfie the Doorstep Cat, I was surprised by this book. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I didn't think this book was as good as the first. It felt slightly rushed, at least more so than the first book? The conflict of the new family spent a good portion of the book being built up and then it was all resolved really quickly, too quickly for my tastes.
The romance both amused and annoyed me. I could understand Tiger's frustration, Alfie seemed to be only giving Snowball the benefit of the doubt because he fancied her. Although him getting stuck up a tree was really funny.
Tiger getting a bigger part, Alfie getting stuck up the tree, going to visit one of the families from the first book and Alfie going to the kid's school were the good parts of the book. And it was easy to read, like the first book.
I have to give this three stars. I don't regret reading this but I definitely think it lacked something that the first book had.

tanto como el primero, este libro fue muy lindo. Conocemos a nuevos personajes humanos (una familia con un secreto), y especialmente una gatita que entra en juego, sólo que ella parece ser lo opuesto a nuestro gran Alfie... ¿por qué? No queda más que leerlo, pero claro está que me encantó. ¡Alfie es único!

Questo libro fa parte di quella lista ormai infinita di libri detta “sono un sequel inutile come pochi, scritto solo perché vendevo”. In pratica poteva benissimo non essere scritto, non ne avremmo sentito la mancanza.
Ora, non capitemi male, il libro non è del tutto da buttare via, anzi, è comunque molto carino. Il problema è che però è anche molto più forzato del primo, e soprattutto più irrealista.
Alfie si trasforma da gatto della via all’eroe non solo della strada, ma dell’intero quartiere.
Il problema è che Alfie, rispetto al volume precedente, è molto “cresciuto”, come se nei tre anni passati dal primo volume si fosse trasformato in un vecchio saggio, ma in realtà sembra più che il cervello di un umano sia stato impiantato nel corpo dell’animale dato i pensieri e le azioni che fa.
Le famiglie che lo seguono, poi, sembrano vivere in delle nuvole, e tutto sembrano tranne che dedite all’animale: lo riempiono di moine, sì, ma poi a mala pena si accorgono del fatto che scompaia per un’intera nottata.
La nuova famiglia, gatta compresa, mi è sembrato un gruppo di strambi completi, di quelli da cui è meglio stare alla larga.
Nel complesso, però, è comunque una storia in grado di far sorridere.
Anche se di scarsi contenuti, la lettura scorre via molto velocemente, non ci vogliono più di 2 o 3 ore, più che altro grazie allo stile che è molto semplice e quasi infantile.
Nel complesso, quindi, un libro che decisamente non è un granchè, molto al di sotto del primo volume. La cosa più bella è sicuramente la copertina, perché quel cucciolo è davvero tenero (e lo dico io che non sono un’amante dei gatti!) ed è decisamente meglio dell’originale, e solo per questo il libro si merita una mezza stellina in più.

Ik had hele hoge cozy verwachtingen voor dit boek, maar helaas zijn die niet waargemaakt. Jammer!
Mijn moeder raadde me dit boek aan en zei dat deze prima los te lezen is (we hebben deel 1 niet in huis, alleen deel 2 en 3). Ik kan nu beamen dat dit boek zeker als losstaand verhaal te lezen is, dus wat dat betreft is het wel een fijne serie.
Wat mij eigenlijk het meeste dwarszat was dat ik eigenlijk niet zo goed wist voor welke doelgroep dit boek bedoeld is. Het lijkt er namelijk ontzettend op dat dit boek is bedoeld voor volwassenen, maar ik vond het echt niet geschikt voor die doelgroep. Het verhaal wordt verteld vanuit het perspectief van de kat Alfie, maar het voelde alsof het werd verteld vanuit het perspectief van een kleuter. Ik vond het taalgebruik echt super eenvoudig met nagenoeg geen complexe woorden en zinsopbouw en veel korte zinnen. Ook de manier van vertellen voelde echt alsof er door een kind werd gesproken, die alles aan de wereld nog moest ontdekken en daardoor heel 'simpele' dingen voor een volwassene ging uitleggen alsof dat onbekend was. Tegelijkertijd is het wel echt thematiek voor volwassenen wat aan bod komt in dit boek (samenwonen, baby's krijgen, leven in een community, etc.) en dat voelde gewoon mega tegenstrijdig tijdens het lezen. Als de focus meer op het plot had gelegen en minder op 'de ervaringen van een kat die dingen leert over de menselijke wereld' dan had het denk ik al veel beter leesbaar geweest.
Ik vond de avonturen van de kat dan wel weer erg leuk om over te lezen. Ik heb zelf een kat en ben uberhaupt heel groot dierenliefhebber en vraag me meer dan eens af wat ons beest allemaal uitspookt als hij buiten is. Om dan te lezen over een kat die allerlei avonturen beleeft die net zo goed de avonturen van je eigen kat hadden kunnen zijn, is wel echt heel leuk. Je gaat ook automatisch jouw kat als hoofdpersoon nemen (tot je erachter komt dat die andere katten allemaal heel sociaal zijn tegen andere katten en jouw kat heeft altijd alleen maar ruzie).
Wat ik daarnaast ook erg waardevol vond was de naastenliefde die heel goed is uitgewerkt in dit boek. Wie goed doet, goed ontmoet is echt van toepassing op dit verhaal en dat is een boodschap waarvan ik denk dat het niet vaak genoeg uitgedragen kan worden.
Al met al vond ik het dus vooral heel jammer dat het verhaal op een heel kinderlijke manier werd gebracht aan volwassenen, terwijl het verhaal zelf heel veel potentie heeft. Ik voelde me een beetje betutteld tijdens het lezen en dat frustreerde me meer dan ik ontspannen raakte van de cozy vibes.

Well, Well! I honestly didn't think I would love this book as much as I did. I want to read all of the series now!
I guess being middle-aged didn't stop me from enjoying this delightful, warm, feel good, every-thing-coming-up-roses, book. It's just the thing to make anyone feel cosy.
And what's wrong with cats talking to each other anyway... I'm sure mine do 🤣🤣

Wederom een leuk verhaal. Al vond ik het op een gegeven moment iets te lang duren voordat je weet wat er met de buren aan de hand is. Het idee om het verhaal vanuit een kat te vertellen is erg leuk.

Che libro tremendo…! Non saprei da dove cominciare per spiegare cosa non va. A parte il fatto che mi è venuto il diabete giunta alla 328 esima pagina, fra l'altro con molta fatica. E io sono una che non disdegna la lettura di romanzi leggeri, perché i loro happy ending li trovo rassicuranti, ma così è davvero troppo!
Due cose ho capito sull'autrice: che è una pancina e la sua conoscenza sui gatti si è fermata a Tom&Jerry.
Pancina perché l'idea che passa è che la VERA famiglia è fondata sulla presenza di prole, un tassello fondamentale per essere davvero felici e completi. Un pensiero pericoloso e ridicolo se pensiamo che ci troviamo nel 2023!
Le infinite sequenze di frasi melense e scene da pubblicità della Mulino Bianco occupano pagine e pagine. Persino il gatto non riesce a resistere a questo incantesimo e chiude TUTTI I CAPITOLI (non scherzo) commentando quanto sia felice di vedere tanto amore intorno a lui.
Per quanto riguarda Alfie, ci sono molte cose che francamente non mi sembravano in linea con i comportamenti della sua specie. Proprio perché amo questo animale, non perdo occasione per informarmi sulla sua natura, perché l'esperienza di averli in casa non basta. I gatti, infatti, sono dei predatori, che hanno un atteggiamento diffidente per natura, anche se molto curiosi. Non amano il caos, il baccano, i luoghi affollati, la gente estranea che si prende troppe confidenze ecc.
Dunque, Alfie, mi dispiace dirtelo, ma a quanto pare sei un cane...
Concludo dicendo che la scrittura l'ho trovata così banale, che in alcuni frangenti pensavo di leggere un libro per bambini.
Ma questo me lo merito: così la prossima volta imparo a non scegliere un libro solo perché sulla copertina c'è un gatto!

In questo secondo libro della serie, ritroviamo Alfie e i suoi amici umani qualche anno dopo le vicende narrate nel primo romanzo. Il gattino è sempre adorabile (poi io quando si parla di gatti sono un pò di parte!) e, come al solito, vedendo che gli umani a cui vuole bene hanno dei problemi, cerca di aiutarli (a modo suo!) a risolverli.
Ci sono anche dei nuovi arrivati in Edgar Road, la famiglia Snell e la loro gatta Palla di Neve: stanno in disparte, evitano i vicini e sono piuttosto misteriosi...nascondono un segreto, chiaramente soffrono...Alfie riuscirà ad aiutare anche loro?
E' un libro carino e piacevole da leggere, anche se ha perso un pò di freschezza rispetto al primo della serie. Altro difetto è che, mentre nel primo volume il tema dei maltrattamenti sulle donne veniva trattato in modo coinvolgente, qui quello del bullismo viene appena sfiorato, risolvendo le cose in maniera abbastanza sbrigativa.
Rimane una gradevole lettura, a mio parere però è un pò inferiore rispetto al suo predecessore.

August 11, 2018Il secondo libro su Alfie é carino quanto il primo.
Ci troviamo a circa un anno o 2 di distanza dal primo libro e ci sono stati cambiamenti come il trasferimento di una delle famiglie di Alfie e il matrimonio fra Claire e Jonathan. Polly, che nel libro precedente era quella con più problemi e bisognosa d'aiuto, qui é invece si rivela forte e matura. Penso che sia il personaggio che preferisco in questo libro.
Dalla trama sembra che nessuno sappia del desiderio di maternità di Claire e dei problemi di Aleksy a scuola, ma in realtà lo sanno tutti, non é mica un segreto. Riesce ad aiutare Aleksy, ma può solo stare vicino a Claire mentre soffre. Devo dire che i suoi piani migliori sono quelli improvvisati. Più ci ragiona su e più sembrano campati in aria, per non dire i risultati che saltano fuori... incredibile che alla fine funzionino comunque allo scopo!
Con l'arrivo dei nuovi vicini entrano in gioco anche le faccende amorose per il nostro micio, cosa inaspettata, devo ammetterlo. Chissà se anche nel prossimo libro ritroveremo Palla di Neve...
A proposito di Palla di Neve, la micia mianca dagli occhi azzurri che conquista Alfie (senza alcun motivo per come la vedo io, il classico colpo di fulmine senza ragione e pure a senso unico), devo dire che per la maggior parte del libro la sopporto appena per quanto é scontrosa e solo verso la fine del libro comincia a starmi più simpatica, ma non riesce comunque a convincermi.
Il finale é edilliaco e io non ho niente in contrario, ma il modo in cui é stato raggiunto mi é sembrato troppo... "liscio", diciamo. È un libro senza pretese se non quella di far sorridere il lettore, adatto all'estate, per come lo vedo io.
Ci troviamo a circa un anno o 2 di distanza dal primo libro e ci sono stati cambiamenti come il trasferimento di una delle famiglie di Alfie e il matrimonio fra Claire e Jonathan. Polly, che nel libro precedente era quella con più problemi e bisognosa d'aiuto, qui é invece si rivela forte e matura. Penso che sia il personaggio che preferisco in questo libro.
Dalla trama sembra che nessuno sappia del desiderio di maternità di Claire e dei problemi di Aleksy a scuola, ma in realtà lo sanno tutti, non é mica un segreto. Riesce ad aiutare Aleksy, ma può solo stare vicino a Claire mentre soffre. Devo dire che i suoi piani migliori sono quelli improvvisati. Più ci ragiona su e più sembrano campati in aria, per non dire i risultati che saltano fuori... incredibile che alla fine funzionino comunque allo scopo!
Con l'arrivo dei nuovi vicini entrano in gioco anche le faccende amorose per il nostro micio, cosa inaspettata, devo ammetterlo. Chissà se anche nel prossimo libro ritroveremo Palla di Neve...
A proposito di Palla di Neve, la micia mianca dagli occhi azzurri che conquista Alfie (senza alcun motivo per come la vedo io, il classico colpo di fulmine senza ragione e pure a senso unico), devo dire che per la maggior parte del libro la sopporto appena per quanto é scontrosa e solo verso la fine del libro comincia a starmi più simpatica, ma non riesce comunque a convincermi.
Il finale é edilliaco e io non ho niente in contrario, ma il modo in cui é stato raggiunto mi é sembrato troppo... "liscio", diciamo. È un libro senza pretese se non quella di far sorridere il lettore, adatto all'estate, per come lo vedo io.

Gosh, if you're a cat person, u definitely have to read this series 😭 It's soo hilarious and heartwarming. We got Alfie, the doorstep cat who thinks every house on Edgar Road happiness is his business and always needs to make sure that everyone is happy and content. Oh, how I adored this cat, and his other friends and his relations with his humans. This series is written from Alfie's pov, so everything is entertaining, to say the least. Even if you aren't a cat person, I guarantee that you will enjoy this series.

A Cat Called Alfie is the second book of the Alfie series by Rachel Wells. These are entirely enjoyable books and Alfie is a darling who wants everyone's life to be perfect and sets about solving everyone's problems both his cat and human friends.
I adore this series and will continue to read them, when I am in the need for lighter fare.

Every cat lover needs to read a light and cute cat book from time to time. Nothing serious just some relaxing entertainment while your own cat is sleeping next to you. Alfie series is good for this as the main cat is so adorable and always has a plan to save the situation.
I liked this book a bit less than the first one. One thing I liked was that there was a bit of mystery added. In such books one always know the end but in this one we had the strange behaving new neighbours. Reading towards finding out what their secret was adding to entertainment. Although I am not too crazy about how it ended.
I didn't really like Alfie's love story. I love the cat but this made him lose a bit of his catness. The story was just like a simplistic romance novel one gets all the time only with cats instead of humans. I rather see Alfie be more of a cat observing people dealing with their issues.

The continuing tale (tail?) of Alfie and his life on Edgar Road (as told by Alfie himself).
In this one, new neighbours move in to the street in a rather secretive way, and keep themselves to themselves, which sparks the curiosity of the other people on the street and in particular a fairly nosy couple who run the local Neighbourhood Watch scheme (and take an interest in everyone's comings and goings).
Alfie is smitten with the cat belonging to this new family and tries to make friends with the cat and the family, to no avail for most of the book.
As usual, Alfie comes up with a hair-brained scheme to get the family out of their shell and help them fit in to the street once he has established their reason for their secretive nature.
By the end of the book, Alfie is getting on famously with their cat (a pure white one called Snowball) and has introduced the family to the other people on the street and seemingly solved all of their problems.
Overall, a nice charming read which is easily recommended to any cat lovers.

Het boek begint ongeveer 3 jaar nadat kat over de drempel is beëindig. Alfie is nog steeds zeer gelukkig met zijn huisjes en kattenvriendjes, maar nu 3 jaar later staat er weer van alles te gebeuren. Er komen nieuwe buren en zijn baasjes zijn niet zo gelukkig als dat het lijkt. Alfie moet dus weer ingrijpen en zorgen dat alles weer goed komt.
Alfie blijft een heerlijk personage, hij is super lief, zorgzaam, slim maar toch ook wel wat eigenwijs. Hierdoor komt hij steeds weer in bijzondere situaties terecht. Ik vond het ook leuk om nu de andere buurtkatten beter te leren kennen. De afwisseling tussen de katten en de mensen zorgt voor een leuke dynamiek.
Dit deel leest weer heerlijk vlot weg. De verschillende situaties volgen elkaar vlot op waardoor ik geïnteresseerd bleef om door te lezen. Het plot is wel wat voorspelbaar maar dat maakte voor mij niet uit. Het is een heerlijk feelgood om even lekker bij weg te dromen.

A simple, enjoyable tale but written by a cat! My neighbour lent me her copies of this series and was keen for me to read them but for that I wouldn't have chosen them. Despite my better judgement (and the writing is completely juvenile) I kept reading if only to see how the story would unfurl. I've given it 3 stars as the story is strangely enjoyable- but if you're used to a more intelligent read (and you couldn't get less intelligent than this) save it for when you're feeling poorly and can't quite cope with anything industrious!!
