Mothachail has a secret, kept even from her. Fenix has a duty that's about to change everything.
After the death of her adoptive mother, Mothachail's life is turned upside down. She spends one last night out with her best friend before moving home to console and care for her devastated father but her plans are dashed when she unknowingly walks into the cross hairs of a mysterious admirer.
Explore the magical world of Gaia as Mothachail is abruptly thrust into the Four Kingdoms - tucked away from human eyes - where she will be faced with the truth of her world; truths that are impossible. After being kidnapped she learns the dark Incubus Prince to blame has a shocking connection to her past and her uncertain future.
Can she handle finding out monsters and myths are real? Will she survive a life where magic can be both a gift and a curse or will her human ignorance kill her in the end?
After recently reading so many types of supernatural and magical books, oblivious by bri Amari was SUCH a breath of fresh air. I loved connecting with the main characters, and seeing each viewpoint. Mo was very relatable, and the development of her character was great to see throughout the story. I cant wait to learn more about the magical lands contained in the four kingdoms.
Im not one who is thrown off by cliffhangers but i was happy that this one didnt have a HUGE cliffhanger, just enough tocleave you wanting the next book in the series. The story was wrapped up neatly in a nice little package and presented with a beautiful bow. I promise what is inside is just as amazing as the outside.
An enchanting story of a girl who learns that she is much more than a shopkeeper, but not before she encounters a man who turns her world up-side-down. If you like fantasy, you are sure to enjoy this read.
How did I wait so long to pick up this book?! This has been on my "Priority-Reads" shelf for months and I finally found the time to grab it and read, and DANG am I happy that I did! This was such a fantastic and unique little story, and I was captivated from the first line:
'Life was the illusion of living, but dying a little bit everyday, since the day you were born.'
Can you say jaw-dropper?! Amazing. What an inspired read, and there's more where this comes from!
I loved the original names of the majority of these characters (even if most of them were impossible to pronounce and it took me FOREVER to settle on one for Mo). And while Mothachail may have given her namesake truth in the beginning, by the end of this book she had overcome everything that her name intended her to be, "Oblivious." And Mo is such a captivating character! She had me cry-laughing throughout this entire book. That woman is blunt and tough as nails. She doesn't take crap from anyone. Go Mo!
So, there were a few things I didn't particularly care for or understand when it came to this book. Firstly, the instant attraction/adoration that literally EVERY GUY seems to have upon meeting Mo (I'm looking at you Iann). I get that she's a Succubus and possessing an even sexier attitude than she does body (which sounds pretty great to start with), but COME. ON. What is with Iann's super-crush on Mo? Where does it come from? It bears a striking resemblance to Fenix's devotion to Mo, except that Mo doesn't feel the same way like she does for Nix. Yeah...that bugged me just a bit.
Another character that I was grateful for and bothered me at the same time: Diamas. Isn't it convenient that everyone seemed to see her for the crazy that she is just when Mo pops into their lives? I mean, she was going to be their QUEEN some day. And everyone treated her like she was some evil creature while her dad seemed completely oblivious (hehe) to her darker nature.
I am thankful that Diamas was there though. We needed at least ONE PERSON (preferably someone close to the family if not family itself) that was having NONE of Mo. everything looked far too fairy-tale-esque without Diamas there. However, I was severely disappointed by her 'Master plan' at the end of the book. Kind of anticlimactic after hearing about what a warrior she was.
Only other thing in this book that I am sinning is the grammar. Too many errors to reasonably ignore, and it confused me at times trying to decipher what was meant to be said by the author.
Other than that, FABULOUS. The Four Kingdoms of Gaia: Urisk (fae-demons), Bajang (shifters), Leviathan (giants/water-creatures), and Incubi/Succubi (sex-demons). Plus the humans who were oblivious (hehe) to their existence. Very well-done. However, I did not see much of that dramatic split between the Kingdoms that everyone said was there. Maybe because Mo was already bringing people together after first appearing; though I would have liked to see some of that feuding to truly grasp the peril that the Four Kingdoms were at with one another.
All in all, I was very pleased with this little story, and I liked the multiple POVs used throughout the story too (most of the time). It helped to broaden the character traits of our main characters and get a sense of what everyone was feeling, especially with MO's arrival. Very intriguing. I would highly recommend this boon to those with a love of the paranormal and a desire to try something a bit unorthodox from your typical YA Paranormal/Fantasy reads.
This is the first book I've read that has had multiple POVS in first person. It's interesting to say the least but I'm not sure if it works. I felt like some of the character's personalities were identical and not unique.
The story itself is well crafted and has a good pace. The world Bri has created is special. I always enjoy seeing magic and a range of different cultures. I look forward to reading the next books!
Wow. Wow. And wow. I am blown away by the creativity and use of the multiple character viewpoints in this book. All the tidbits, including the mysteries, secret worlds and everything that makes a good book... good. Well , this is exceptional. It is fast-paced, it is wonderful , and I cannot wait for the next book.
First off all this was to good and the MC inadvertently dealing with segregation just by marrying on of the prince from the other races noice. Like always there's someone who wants to shit on it all but hey such is life.
I know that people say I am tired of troupes but the truth everything, every situation has been written (I mean human written existence has been long) and the only thing that writers can do now is put their own spin on the story and us as reader be grateful for the stories they give us.
Oblivious is about a woman named Mo who knows she was adopted by loving parents but finds out she is really a big part of a magical kingdom. Mo is funny, sassy, caring and creative. Mo and her best friend Jazz own a store where they make their own goods. They are really close with each other, they are everything you think of when you think of best friends and I love them together. One night Mo gets abducted and that is where everything begins.
I loved this story, it drew me in and I couldn't wait to pick the book back up again. The world, the characters and story was really interesting, at times I found myself laughing out loud. The only problem I had was that a really big event happened near the end of the book and it was just kinda glossed over and not resolved. I think an extra chapter could have been written in order for everyone to come to some kind of resolve. Also those names, I know I was pronouncing them correctly and that was kinda irritating but that is what writers do, they give us unpronounceable.
Oblivious was magical and funny, with family and friends, fights and friendship. I wasn't even half-way finished with Oblivious when the next book in the series, Opalescent, came up for pre-order on Amazon and I clicked the buy button. I can't wait to read the rest of this series.
Amari's plot and twists had me laughing out loud in the first half of the book. The author has created an intricate world of paranormals with a one-of-a-kind spin on jewels, and her unique ability to create such a wonderful plot is something I want to see more of. That being said, as a reader, I feel like I am looking at a beta copy of this book before any proofing or editing. After the fifth missing possessive apostrophe, I started to get a little agitated, but knew I had no right to leave a review if I stopped reading (Also, not ruling out that English is a second language in this instance). Let us remember that Amari has done something that others have only dreamed of in writing a book, and I am convinced this debut writer has talent for creating fresh new ideas. I would love to see a second edition or revision of this book, and think it is most necessary. The second half of the book moved far too quickly, and I think the initial story could have been two books. It's a royal fantasy world but there are still smurfs and Jack Daniels, and it feels like watching the Shannara Chronicles on MTV with how modern ideas are brought into the royal and otherworldy setting. Four stars for fresh ideas, two stars for incorrect Latin (Magna Cum Laude, National Latin Exam winner, and I won't even touch my own translations), and I remind you that practice makes perfect, and Amari could be one to watch. This review is intended to help. I will amend this review to reflect any future editions. I think Amari will write great things.
I stayed up all night reading this one. I really liked it. Storyline was unique, at least to me, character were thought out and developed well. Definitely plan on reading the rest of this series. Things I liked most were the uniqueness of the world, the humor, and Mo... I'm more of a suspense or mystery reader. I enjoy being engaged and thinking during reading. There was some suspense but everything seemed to wrap up nice and quickly. With that in mind, I had trouble focusing and staying with the book. I'd highly recommend this book. Loved all the characters, the world, the humor, the little bit of action, and I can't wait to read the next book to see how Bri Amari continues to develop these characters and the world!
Bri Amari did a fanstatic job with her first book. She really makes the world of the four kingdoms and its people come alive. The MC is fierce and doesn't take sh*t from anyone. That's especially impressive because she is uprooted from her life (sorta kinda kidnapped, in fact) and thrown into a magical kingdom. I love how she owns her newfound powers, even though they scare her at first. I don't want to say too much, you just have to read the book for yourself :) Just one more thing: eI specially liked the ending. The story was wrapped up nicely and yet there is still a little cliffhanger, not enough to make you groan in book-addict frustration but enough to make you even more curious about the next book in the series :)
Well I didn't expect this book to be so good? There are debut novels that you read them and go eh but this one falls under the can I have the next one now category. It was so greatly written and the action and plot so fluid and I have a feeling that in the next books when everything goes down Mo and Jazz will be badass!!
I loved this book! Quite a mixture of characters from incubi to dragons set in a realm just out of sight from our own. I look forward to the continuing story in the next book!
I really enjoyed this book. It did take me a minute to get into it but once I did I was unable to put it down. The characters are great, and not just the main characters but the secondary characters as well. The story line flows effortlessly and switches view points so you get a feel of how each character thinks and sees whats going on. There is not a real cliffhanger ending, which I am happy about but there is enough left open to leave room for the next book. This is a paranormal book that features different races with action, with a little suspense and romance, add in some comic relief and it makes this book a page turner and a must read. I look forward to the next book in the series.
I was hooked from the first page, could not put the book down. Learning about the different races and kingdoms was fascinating. Will definitely continue the series.
I was given an ARC of this story to read and review.
While Ms. Amari has got an interesting set of bones for this story, the execution leaves room for improvement. There are too many fantasy stories, and too many romances in the market, and this one needs to shine to be noticed.
The story contains too many cliches - everyone is beautiful, a lot of 'wow, her butt looks good', info dumping about what the MC is wearing, instant love, etc. The storyline could be stronger. And the characters could be developed to a greater degree - especially the siblings - and especially the antagonist. The pacing was a bit off, which is probably why the character development felt stilted.
With a great editor (technical and content), Ms. Amari's story would be much improved. I hope she continues to write, and adds a fantastic editor to her self-publishing team. Good luck!
If you are looking for a book that is a breath of fresh air, and completely different than what you are use to from paranormal and fantasy books, then this book is for you.
Bri Amari has created a world that I could not get enough of.
The characters and the world was unique and had me hooked.
I loved all of the different point of views. I got to see what everyone was thinking.
I loved the MC, Mo. She was so bubbly and different.
I couldn't get enough of this world. I eagerly await Bri's next book.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It contains lots of fantasy, a young lady with a unique name with a rather profound meaning, and a additional concealed family unit she had no idea existed, until she meets Prince Fenix. I loved all of the characters in this novel, and think it's a great read for fans of the fantasy genre.
