This book is really like sitting at a treasure kist filled with photos, love letters, bus tickets and all the things that made up the life of Ingrid Jonker. So, the layout is FANTASTIC, the text substantiated and the author tries to interfere as little as possible (for fear of being biased). You can come to your own conclusions about the events, e.g. what happened between Jonker and André P. Brink, or between her and Jack Cope. The actual letters were scanned, so you even get a taste of Jonker's handwriting and the emotions she might've had at the time of writing.
I'd recommend it to anyone wanting to find out more about this special Afrikaans poet.
I have to put this book aside because it makes me far too sad for this nice Summer season. Reading this (beautiful edited) book simply is too much for me, it grips me by the throat. (And I thought I was a tough cookie....;-)
