I have mixed feelings about this book. On the one hand it was a page turner...I wanted to know what happened to Jewel and how everything was connected. On the other hand the author drowns the book by preaching about Christianity. I have no problems when writers incorporate faith and God into their writing after all religion has been a part of human history from very early on....but to try to sell your reader to a specific religion...the book loses its universal appeal. There is Frida Kahlo painting that depicts her painful turmoil after a miscarriage. The painting is one of the most powerful pieces of art I have seen....and the reason is when people from every background and walk of life see the painting they perceive the pain. The painting is a universal piece of art that we can all relate to whether you are from a specific religion, an agnostic, an atheist, or someone who doesn't know what they are like my boyfriend. My point is you reduce the potential of a good book by taking away that quality of universality....something that we can all relate to. So I am assuming the author only wanted a specific group of Christians to enjoy this novel.
This is one of the best books I've read in the past few years - and I read a LOT. I was pleasantly surprised by how this story grabbed me and pulled me into different worlds. The author deftly handles dimensional shifts between time and her character development is absolutely spot-on. I despised Hundson, rooted for Jack and Jewel, and found myself in the old South with Addie and Culpepper. And the old house that Jack is refurbishing...well, I was right there with him. The writing is so descriptive that I watched it all unfold like a movie. The plot twists kept me engaged and guessing. This is one of those novels that you can't wait to get home from work (or shopping or whatever), so you can get back to the story to find out what happens next. And the ending is superb. Very highly recommended! This is an author to watch!
This book was absolutely fabulous!!! The authors story telling abilities are amazing. From the very first pages I just couldn't put the book down. A must read !!!
This is actually the second time I read this book and if possible, it's better than the first time! First, this book reads like a true life experience. I do t usually read anything with the words "time travel" in the description o n but the reviews enticed me. I'm so glad I went with my gut feeling and got this book. It really is on one of the best mysteries I've ever read. You know, the kind of book you can't putt down-literally. I took it with me to prepare my meals and while I ate. I didn't even watch my favorite tv show. The only complaint I have is that the story ended. This is one I wish had more books to read following up this story. You can be sure I'll be looking up this author to see if I can find more she has written. I'm certainly a fan for life. Plenty of other reviewers have outlined the plot so I won't go there. I will however, tell you that this book is a must own. Reading this story is so enjoyable and entertaining. You find yourself experiencing all kind of emotions and thinking about the book long after you put it down. You won't know what you're missing if you don't get it but you definitely be on cloud nine if you do. I dare you to read this captivating book. HIGHLY RECOMMEND ! :)
I rarely give 5 stars but this is a 5 star if ever I read one! Wonderful story! I was glued the whole time and loved all the characters I was meant to love and hated those I was meant to hate. Amazing story telling! Write more books please!
This was a fantastic time travel mystery that I couldn't put it down. Jack Vines sees a 'ghost' in his house and it isn't long before he's in contact across the time continuum with a previous owner of the house, Jewel Wiltshire, from 100 years ago. There are three stories seamlessly woven together in this book and the writing is beautiful. All of it leads to an astonishing conclusion that I did not see coming!
Wow!!!! The most enthralling story that I have read in a long time.I couldn't stop till I finished and now I'm sorry that I did finish I wanted more! Thank you so much for such a beautiful story I lived every moment of it along with you. 😍👼💓💎
I chose this rating because I enjoyed it so much that I couldn't put it down and now that I've finished it I wish I hadn't I wish there had been more!!!!!😍👼💓💓💓💎💎💎💎💎
Basically a good story, too long and convoluted and yet the ending was truncated. There needed to be more between the last two chapters. The revelations are made but it does not go into enough detail on how it affected the main characters.
I wanted to sit and delve into this story all day instead of doing my work! The ending was surprising and satisfying; can not wait to read more from this author.
This has to be a personal record for sleep lost over a book. I stayed up till 8AM and got 60% through and had to stop only because my Kindle was dying, and I couldn't keep my eyes open. After a nap, I dived back in and finished. And let me tell ya, what a ride. I have so many thoughts so this will be longish and contain hidden spoilers.
I bought this a couple of years back and finally decided to give it a go. I wasn't 100% sure what direction this was going to take but right from chapter one I was sold. It instantly reminded me of the movie From Time to Time the way the past and present blended and characters were able to communicate across the years. I love this kind of plot and find it so fascinating. I'll talk more about that later.
I'll go ahead and touch on the characters first. There were several and each unique. Let's get our villainous sicko out of the way first. Hunsdon. He was just... the definition of evil and a creeper and there's not one good thing I have to say about him. Jewel was a timid and sweet MC who endured so much. Her beauty was constantly referred to, to the point that it was redundant. Jack was interesting enough. Determined, passionate, and kind. I didn't like Sam at first. I thought she was a needless distraction because I wanted to focus more on the time-travel stuff. Turns out I was wrong, lol. I liked her enthusiasm for history and all-things vintage. There is a ton of other characters but if I were to go through all of them, we'd be here a while. My favorites had to be Jeff, Cindy and their kids.
There were a number of Biblical references, moments of prayer, and acknowledging God. I read other reviews that stated this book was on the preachy side. While I do agree that there were a lot of Christian themes and such, as far as I can recall, the Gospel was never shared. There were no mentions of salvation or repentance. So, while there were a ton of references and characters crying out in prayer or declaring their trust in Him, it never went as far as to preach salvation. Actually...I have an issue with Jewel's dad....
As for the time-travel/duel timeline thing, it really worked at first and kept the story moving at a good pace, but later things got confusing. The communication between Jewel and Jack was really neat and intriguing! There were parts that gave me literal chills.
The romance wasn't bad. Some kissing is about it.
And the ending...the big reveal...was not what I was hoping for.
Overall: I could not put this down and was thoroughly invested. While it had its moments of confusion and unsatisfactory conclusions, I did enjoy this. If you like historical mysteries, unsolved murders, time travel and dual timelines, you'll probably like this.
CONTENT WARNING: Domestic abuse! Early on there's a scene that might be uncomfortable for young or sensitive readers. Beatings, drugging and murder. No language.
This book made no sense. While the writing was very eloquent and descriptive and the storyline intriguing, I was put off by the plot of time travel as it is not explained whatsoever by the author. At no point did the author even attempt to explain the mystery and the ending, where it could have at least been explored, was cut extremely short with a lazy effort to tie it up nicely and neatly rather than make the same effort shown throughout the rest of the book.
Not to mention the constant reminder of Christianity shoved down your throat the entire book. I understand if that is the author's religious identity and wants to express that through her writing, but it was too much and too often. It definitely took away from the story and was very distracting as it took me out of the story and away from the characters.
Two stars for the imagery and intrigue- everything was clearly imaginable, although some phrases were repeated too frequently, and I did want to find out what happened, which is why I continued the book until I completed it.
I loved this book from start to finish. The twists and turns were great and I could hardly read fast enough. I loved the bit of time travel mixed with an unwavering faith in God. I highly recommend this book and hope to read more from this author.
The plot and the characters were riveting. Author Michelle Kidd's story was one of passion, hopelessness, possession and caring in a setting which spanned decades and dimensions. More than a love story, it dealt with the emotions and actions defining good and evil. It was hard to put down.
I wanted to give this book 5 stars because when I started reading it I just couldn't put it down. There was so much happening in it and the characters were so well written. Somewhere around the middle I started to get bogged down. When there was another 'section' if you like brought into it I thought, what the!! The physical and mental abuse got a bit repetitive after a while, (I'm not trivialising abuse of any type by any means), it got a bit wearing. And oh my was there way too much God in it!! The first two thirds especially was littered with it. It broke the flow of the story for me every time it appeared. I'm not nonreligious myself but there's a time and place for every thing and a novel is not one of those places. I read Christian authors, Julie Klassen is one of my favorites and she knows how to write them without over whelming the reader. Even though I thought the book was a tad too long, it ended too quickly. There were no real explanations of how all the revelations (nonreligious) affected everyone. Still it was a good read that could have been brilliant.
This book is one of the best I have read lately. The plot flows along effortlessly. Several times I was so involved in what was happening I could not put the kindle down. I can't wait for more books.
This is one of the most intricately written time travel novels that I have read. It was quite the mystery! I was intrigued until the very end. I am impressed with this author and look forward to reading more from her.
The characters were creatively intertwined with the past and present and future. The plot was fascinating and a real page turner. I highly recommend this book to any who enjoy mystery with a love story twist.
This is one of the better books I’ve read in a long time! I love a book about time travel and then throw in the twists and suspense, I loved it! It starts out a bit slow but once I got into the storyline I flew through it!
Ok this book had some nice moments, some suspenseful moments but overall it was incredibly predictable. The main reason for the two stars however is that the time travel component was never truly explained. Perhaps I am spoiled from reading the Outlander Series however just leaving it open, or rather “to the mysteries of God” was too simple. It felt a bit like the author couldn’t figure out how it happened and therefore afforded it to the almighty. Yes, this is a Christian book however it fell flat without having some type of explanation.
The storyline was good, though the time jumping back and forth was a little confusing at first. My only problem with the story itself was wading through all the bouts of abuse against women. Could be very triggering for some, which was the case with me. Because there was so much of it, I finally started skipping over those scenes. So, while it could be a depressing read for some- because it seemed like the main character never got a break, it's worth it to finish. The ending was good- surprising and good.
It has always been my opinion that a novel that can hold your interest throughout does so because of the story. Right along with that, the characters need to be so strong they will create an intense like or love for how they are portrayed. Timeless Moments fills this order in so many ways, I was amazed at the twists and turns to the tale. All the while, there were characters that were so well defined, I felt I knew them and had great empathy for some. Others, not so much. I got so angry at others I wanted to smack them. Author, Michelle Kidd has a way of rousing my emotions with her writing. I certainly did feel entertained.
I don't want to give away any of the details of the story since I believe you should read it for yourself and agree that this is truly a fascinating piece of fiction.
Michelle Kidd’s Timeless Moments grabbed me, and the mesmerizing story engulfed me until the end. I took only one break while reading it. Jack Vines glimpses a distressed young woman in his garden who disappears after she dashes into his house . . . or does she? The author weaves the fabric of time between the past and the present with the precision of a skilled seamstress. The mystery and intrigue of this fascinating novel involving Jack in present day and Jewel starting in 1915 is masterful in plot, characters, and pacing. The thread of gold further enriching it is the use of scriptures as well placed accents; each verse used warmed my heart and provided hope for the characters. I love jigsaw puzzles and this story comes together much like one—no spoilers here. If you like a well-crafted story full of characters who will touch your heart, read this five star novel.
Any book that can keep me from putting it down, I couldn't put it down, I wanted to hurry up to that ending, but I didn't jump the gun and peek. This book was well worth the time. I absolutely loved and enjoyed reading this book. I liked every part of this story, I just couldn't read through it fast enough!! I highly recommend this to teens and adults! It makes me want to read more books by Michelle Kidd.
Was a quick easy read. Needed something light and enjoyable to read, it certainly was all that. The ending was alittle surprising and I had to read it again after I quickly read it because I wanted to see how it ended.
One of the best mysteries I have ever read. It kept me turning the pages until the end. This is a time travel book with three different times. I never got confused, but I was wondering the whole time what is going on? There is a bit of a romance. I really enjoyed it and recommend to any mystery lovers.
