Firstly, thank you to Net Galley, the publishers and the author for an ARC copy, and so sorry for the delay.

Digging up the past can be deadly...

After years of running from her ex--a vicious Mexican drug lord--and his subsequent death, Kate Jones is ready to bury the past and try to piece together a new normal. But first, there's a loose end to tie and it involves digging up old ghosts that are best left alone.

Unaware her actions have attracted the notice of a powerful enemy, Kate is plunged into a deadly fight for survival, as both her life and the lives of the children of a man she once loved hang in the balance. And, with the possibility of an informant inside the DEA, she doesn't know who she can trust.

From the emerald green shores of Seattle to the lush Yucatan jungle and unforgiving Sonoran desert, Kate Jones must once again face her past...and hope she survives.

Firstly it is important to mention this is my first book by this author and my first in the series of books with Kate Jones, although read as a stand alone a lot of the book mentioned the history of Kate Jones, not always easy to follow.

In A One Way Ticket To Dead, Kate goes back for the stash of money she had stolen from the drug lord. They thought she was dead, she had been cautious, changing her appearance and keeping a low profile. She thought this would be her last trip here and she was happy for it, take a step away, start a new life, she’s determined to change her life for the better, no such luck.

New battles as old faithful enemies Anaya and Angie resurface and she is drawn back into one more survival test with her time tested companions, Quinn, Cole and Sam whom she can always lean on, an amnesiac Cole, and untrustworthy Luis.

Action, twists, well paced, all I can say best to read this series from the start, which I should have done.

An enjoyable read. Between a three star and four star 3.5

The Kate Jones series is a literary espresso…a strong one! The novels give you a buzz, a fix, a wake-me-up as well as the real caffeinated stuff.

This novel is the seventh Kate Jones novel. Unsurprisingly, her efforts to try and lead a normal life after years running from her evil drug-lord ex-boyfriend after one teensy little error of judgement (stealing rather a lot of money…) still hit rocky ground. Just when she thinks she can put the past behind her and allow a glimmer of hope to brighten her future by settling down, reality comes back and hits her with a jolt, in the form of an enemy from her past. And this time, not only is it close to home, the children of a former lover are involved. This time, the pressure is really on.

I love Berkom’s thrillers: they’re packed…to the brim…with action, heart-in-your-mouth suspense, thrills and chills, and are sheer delight from start to finish. Kate is sassy, resourceful, level-headed, funny and good-looking. Too good to be true? It might be if it weren’t for one thing…looking over her shoulder constantly is not funny. Will she ever be able to settle down with the love of her life and two point four children?

Selfishly, I hope not. The end of each Kate Jones book has me hoping avidly for another.

D V Berkom asked me if I wanted to read A One Way Ticket to Dead. I had just finished reading Yucatan Dead and had met Kate while she was tearing through the jungle on a mission. I loved Yucatan Dead, so of course, I jumped all over A One Way Ticket To Dead. I was ecstatic when the package arrived and I opened it. Take a gander at this sweeeeet cover. Blood, guns and money, oh my.

I must confess that the book stared at me for a few days before I gave in and said OK already. I love holding the pretty book in my hand, turning the paper pages instead of virtual ones. :-)

We are going on another adventure with Kate. If you don’t know her, let me tell you a little bit about her. She had been young and impulsive when she made the biggest mistake of her life. She had been paying for it for ten years and so had anyone who befriended her. She had been kidnapped and chased through the Mexican jungle in Yucatan Dead and I knew it couldn’t be over yet. YAY!

I began reading the series out of order and you can to, but if this is your first DV Berkom novel, you might as well start at the beginning. I love these so much, I am sure I will work my way through them all.

My anticipation and tensions are high. I’m waiting for something to happen, you know, the proverbial shoe to drop.

In A One Way Ticket To Dead, Kate goes back for the stash of money she had stolen from the drug lord. They thought she was dead, she had been cautious, changing her appearance and keeping a low profile. She thought this would be her last trip here and she was happy for it. She’s determined to change her life. It’s time to lay all her cards on the table and hope the truth will win out.

But, she was wrong. She brought doom to all those close to her. Kate was determined to finish this, once and for all, to get Cole’s, her new husband, kids back come hell or high water.

I love the hint of Alaskan shamanism heritage. It adds that extra element that takes a book to a higher level.

Why would she jump from a perfectly good airplane? HALO 21,000 feet High altitude low opening . I am terrified just thinking about and so was she.

A One Way Ticket To Dead is my favorite kind of book. A fast paced adventure of a thrill ride. The suspense builds from page one, when I found her back in Mexico, and never let up. The sex and romance is light and the action heavy. Perfect.

DV Berkom knows how to create tension and suspense in a simple yet masterful way. Her writing flows smoothly and the pacing kept me turning the pages, unable to put the book down.

I’m wondering where HE is – Quinn. I feel sure he will make another appearance and I can hardly wait to see him again.

The fortune teller told her – Danger surrounds you. Be certain of your enemies even more so of your friends. You will soon have reason to fear.

A One Way Ticket to Dead picks up Kate Jones’ story shortly after events in the previous book in the series, Yucatan Dead, ended. An error in judgment many years ago has forced Kate to live on the run and under the radar, hiding from her ex, a Mexican drug lord, who was determined to kill her. Now he’s dead and Kate’s ready to settle down in one place and get on with her life. It turns out that her ex isn’t the only one looking for a pound of flesh. By the time Kate realizes she still isn’t safe and can go to ground, her new nemesis has kidnapped the two children of an ex-lover, forcing her to do whatever is necessary to insure they’re returned safely.

Those who enjoyed Yucatan Dead will find this new installment in Kate’s life just as good. Although the stakes are different, the action is in the same vein, with Kate putting herself in harm’s way in the jungles and deserts of Mexico in a no-holds-barred quest to meet her goal.

I am a fan of series books and followed the adventures and misadventures of Kate Jones from beginning to end. I've enjoyed watching Kate grow as a character and the inner strength she shows in this last book is well-developed and takes her to yet another level.

Berkom has filled the series with fascinating characters: hot heroes, heinous villains, and colorful friends. Throughout the books Kate is hunted and finds herself in danger that she can never escape. In this book, the reader is right there with her when she decides to make a stand against her pursuers.

As always with Kate Jones books, the settings are engaging, the characters intriguing and the pace is fast. If you like stories with a strong female protagonist, then this is a great series. You don't have to have read the books in order. I can say with some surety that if A One Way Ticket to Dead is the first one you read, you'll immediately want to read the rest.

Another great read by DV Berkom. I don't usually read this far into a series because they tend to get kind of boring after the first 2 or 3 books. Not so with the Kate Jones Thriller series. They are always well written and the action and edge of your seat suspense just keep coming...and One Way Ticket To Dead was no different. I couldn't put it down.

All of Kate's men make an appearance in this story, except her former drug cartel boss lover, the one she killed. Shaman trained and college educated Sam from Quilete, Alaska, who loves her still. Cole, the Arizona Sheriff who doesn't remember her or the love they shared. Anaya, Mexican cartel drug lord, who wants her back for the secrets she may know. Luis, her DEA contact. And Quinn, mercenary extraordinaire. Even Angie the assassin is involved in this story. Once again, Kate struggles to survive in the jungles of Mexico as she tries to protect the men she loves from those who are trying to kill or capture her, Fast moving intrigue, adventure. I would highly recommend this book to readers who enjoy a fast-paced book with strong, interesting characters.

One Way Ticket To Dead is a fast-paced thriller with a storyline that never lets up on the action. The female lead really carries the story, and I liked how she came across. Although she's strong and independent, she's not above making errors in judgment.

I haven't read the other books in this series and the heroine clearly shares a history with many of the other characters, but even without that background I found the story easy to follow. Anyone who reads to get their adrenaline going will likely enjoy this book.

Review disclosure: I won a copy of this ebook in exchange for an honest review.

Berkom’s writing and Kate’s character keep getting stronger with each book I read. Kate is still Kate even as she matures: complex, caring, passionate and willing to take risks most people would run from. She makes some impulsive mistakes, but she also acts with extraordinary courage when she heads back into cartel territory to help save two young hostages—the daughters of someone very close to her. If you like thrillers, I recommend you read this whole series from the beginning. I’m hooked on it, and I think most thriller fans will be, too. It’s different enough to stand out, while fulfilling the genre’s promise. When it seems the danger can’t get worse or the tension get higher, it does.

Strong and determined female character is my favorite part of this writers series. The story keeps me on edge, and I can't read fast enough to find out if she survives her dangerous mission. I really like how she realized that the mistakes she made in past has put her in this position but is willing to risk her life to make it right.

A fun story that moves at a very quick pace. While I don't think I've read any of the earlier ones, I jumped right in and loved it. Some of the side characters seemed familiar so somewhere I"m sure I've read a book or two by the author and look forward to reading many many more!

This series has got me hooked. I've managed to read them in order, and it just gets better and better. You've got to love Kate for all her flaws. Lots and lots of action, but you never feel confused about the plot. Absolutely love these books!

Sometimes you can only push a girl so far before she will turn and fight back and then you had better watch out because no one is safe.

When the love of her life's daughters are kidnapped and the men holding them will only deal with Kate, she has no choice but to head back to Mexico and deal with her past. The only problem is the father doesn't remember the year they spent together (after suffering a head wound because of Kate but that is a whole other story) and the new man in her life adds to the complications. Why doesn't anyone understand that she just want's a quiet normal life but when its a drug lord boss that wants what you have, it leads to anything but a quite life. Plenty of acton, old friends and new ones its sure to lead to a annihilation.

Once again a brilliant story and great narrator and I just love this series

A ONE WAY TICKET TO DEAD by D V Berkom book # 7 in " Kate Jones " thrillers. So many years of running, and not having a normal life, from having made so many bad choices. Kate, tells herself the past is dead, leave it alone. The eleven year old mystery won't rest. Her ex drug cartel
Is dead. There is an informant in the DEA, they thought she was dead. This throws her once agin in a survival mode and hopes she makes it. With the help of Quinn, Cole and Sam. Another thriller plot, and chase, with Kate, as the past threatens her, and children. Readers will love this book, and will want to finish it in one setting. Given ARC for. my voluntary review and my honest opinion.

Kate Jones still finds trouble wherever she is and whomever she is with. Since Cole does not remember her she seeks out another former love hoping for normal. Old enemies find her and threaten her and new friends. They are looking for information Kate has found and two precious people are kidnapped to lure Kate into the hands of her enemies.

How are her enemies able to find her no matter where she goes. Find out in this book.

Another great story from D.V. Berkom.

It's hard to get out of a quagmire when your knee deep.

Her nemasys is dead and she has the money back. Kate thinks things might be ok... wrong. They have found her again. Like all of the previous Kate Jones book there is action, suspense, thrill, and betrayal to keep you on your toes.

Thank you Netgallery for the opportunity to read One Way Ticket to Dead by DV Berkom. This is the first book I have read of Berkom's and it is part of the Kate Jones series.
It really helps to have read previous novels as there are reoccurring themes and characters that would have made this a more satisfying read.
Kate Jones is an interesting character and I think Berkom does a great job with this female lead and that is what I like the most about this novel.
Female characters like Kate Jones are interesting and are not typical - she is complex and flawed.
I liked this book and will try the others in the series to catch up.
Recommend.
