In terms of practical astronomy books, I highly appreciate this book. Observing the night sky with just naked eyes is not an easy subject to write, because the author doesn't have many things to discuss, and the readership often finds it boring. However, Bob King did it very well. I have read some books about sky observing and amateur astronomy, but this book also brings me something really new. I love the useful links he provides in each chapter and his personal experiences with the night sky which makes me feel like I am chatting with him rather than just reading.

This book has an amazing amount of astronomical information in it for those of us who are looking at the heavens without all of the equipment. Down to earth, steeped with resources and websites to find out more. Great illustrations and pictures throughout. I learned so much by perusing this book. Bonus, the author, Bob King, is local and resides in Duluth.

Has the basics. The kind of introductory text I may give a kid. It has ideas like the phases of the moon, the orbit of the earth, and the movement of constellations through the seasons. I mean it isn't advanced but it isn't bad for what it is.

Good reference book with practice exercises to learn more. Eg - how to use your hand to measure distance.

Have you always wondered about things you’ve seen in the night sky and wanted an easy explanation? Have you always wondered why stars twinkle, where to find the constellations (and what ARE constellations, anyway??) and what that bright light moving across the sky is (it’s probably NOT a UFO!), Bob’s book “Night Sky With the Naked Eye” is the perfect ‘explainer’ and companion. The book’s subtitle, “How to Find Planets, Constellations, Satellites and Other Night Sky Wonders Without a Telescope” provides a hint of what you’ll learn, introducing you to how you can start to enjoy the beauty of the night sky in new ways.

Besides information and explanations, the book includes fun activities, great graphics and beautiful images. In a year where there’s been divisiveness, anger and unfriendliness, Bob’s lovely book is a reminder that we’re all under one sky and all in this together.
