“You know, I’ve been thinking about what I can do for Seirin when I get back. If the team keeps up the fight, going forward they’re gonna encounter punishing teams like Teiko, who just might break them. Or dangerous opponents like Hanamiya, who might threaten to hurt them. That’s why I decided. If those first-years’ are on the verge of losing the will to fight, I’ll be the pillar that’ll hold them up. And if our second-years are getting hurt, I’ll be their shield. I’m ready to sacrifice myself for anything. I will protect Seirin! That’s why I came back!”

Teppei is the freaking best.

From the moment he was introduced, I liked him, his quirkiness and genuineness are infectious. However, knowing the full story of everything that happened, I can only say that he is the kindest soul there is.

On the other hand, Hanamiya is freaking sleazy and he should be banned from the sport.

Having a complete volume just to deal with the founding of Seirin and all the events that gave the second-years the resolve they have was really interesting and I deeply appreciated it.

That being said, the game against Kirasaki Daiichi infuriated me to no end with their ways, something I was not expecting from this series.

“Given the special entry rules this time around, this year is probably the first and last time that all of Teiko’s superstars will be there together, including the phantom sixth man. This Winter Cup is gonna be host to an all-out war between the members of the Generation of Miracles.”

At the time of this review, I have read volumes 9-18 in the omnibus volumes. With that said, I will now review volume 6 omnibus.

Kuroko's Nickname and Style of Play
In this volume, we get to see Kuroko's new drive in action, which we know must somehow relate to his talent/skill of misdirection. This leads me to the thought that Kuroko's individual style of play is of a con artist or a hustler. He fools, misleads, and deceives to make his plays, which is very much in line with these street magicians. Those performances work based on preparation and knowing the human psyche. Without those pieces, the performances do not work that well. If Kuroko was not a basketball player then I would say he could make very good magician and fit right in with the four horsemen in the movie Now You See Me. If Kuroko ever got into professional basketball then it would be cool if he gets a nickname that gives a nod to his street magician-like way of playing. How about Tetsuya "The Hustler" Kuroko or Tetsuya "The Magician" Kuroko? What do you think?

The Hyuga and Kiyoshi Story
We finally get the backstory about how Seirin's basketball team got started and it all starts with Kiyoshi and by extension Hyuga. This was interesting backstory. During this backstory, we get a line that I really like, which is also reminiscent of Naruto's line: "I mean give up on...giving up basketball." See? It harkens to Naruto's line about giving up.

It also shows the interesting teammate relationship/friendship dynamic that Hyuga and Kiyoshi have. Can guy friendships act like this (p. 155-156) or is this just a rivalry? When is a rivalry just competition between friends and when is it animosity? Also Hyuga was giving me some Bakugo vibes with a pinch of some of the boys from Haikyu!!. This dynamic is interesting and I do not think Hyuga has that much animosity towards Kiyoshi as seen on pages 201-202, unless that is just what being captain means. You are aware of your teammates' condition, but that does not mean you are friends. I just think this is a friendship based on this dialogue:
Hyuga: "If you don't think we can be the best in Japan...that's too bad. I'll just have to believe it for you. So hurry back soon. Dummy."
Kiyoshi: [Crying] "I'll be back soon."
Hyuga: "Stop apologizing, dummy. We're teammates, after all."

The Next Game
Oh, this was scary at times. Scary, smart person messing with our team! Boo! Yet, we got some gems in terms of lines.
1. "I'm also angry at these guys. But...the way we help out our teammates isn't by throwing punches. It's by winning this game of basketball."
2. "That's why I decided. If those first-years're on the verge of losing the will to fight...I'll be the pillar that'll hold them up. And if our second-years are getting hurt...I'll be their shield. I'm ready to sacrifice myself for anything. I WILL Protect Seirin! THAT'S WHY I CAME BACK!!" Talk about a hero moment! I will talk more about Kiyoshi later.
3. "I need to stop trying to play as part of the team." This line and what it means plus the commentary on pages 325-327 once again is proof that Kuroko is a street magician that channel those skills into basketball.
4. "I don't have an older brother...but when you were talking about protecting us, I felt like I did. It made me really happy. I want you to KEEP protecting us...so we can't have you crippled by this game."
5. YER REALLY MAKING ME MAD!! JUST LEAVE THE REST TO US!! AND SIT YOUR BUTT DOWN!! YOU REALLY THINK WE'D BREAK OUR PROMISE?!" There's our basketball Bakugo.
6. ("The rest...is up to you...") "Of course it is, dummy. Now wait there like a good boy. Because we'll be back soon...with your ticket to the winter cup." I just like this line, due to how I read it. This also reminds me of something else, but I cannot put my finger on it.
7. "I realized that the Miracle Generation's way of playing basketball was wrong...so I decided to fight back. But at the very least...they're not a bunch of sneaky cowards like you!!" Burn!!!
8. Our dreams are riding on this. Our senpais' dreams. AND SEIRIN'S DREAMS. SO...GET OUT OF OUR WAY!!" YES!!! GO!!!

Kiyoshi, Iron Will-Protector
When Kiyoshi was talking about being Seirin's protector, it reminded me of Kita and Daichi from Haikyu!!. Daichi was Karasuno's foundation, which you can say is similar to Kiyoshi being Seirin's pillar of strength. While both teams can play and win without Daichi and Kiyoshi, they are stronger with their influence. Kita does his best to provide support his team with what he can do, which is slightly difference in the sense that Kiyoshi is a prodigy of sorts.

What's Next?
I was going to write out this good line, but then I realize it could be a spoiler. What I will say is the line makes me think that the line from Haikyu!!'s final volume about "an extravagant family quarrel" is pretty accurate here. Just saying.

Verdict: So good!

I think that this Manga is very suitable for those who like sports or basketball to read. In this Manga, the author used the real basketball rules which makes it more realistic. I love to play sports and basketball, so when i read this Manga, I see them playing against some strong teams, I will feel like I am one of them and I will cheer for them. So I strongly recommend this Manga to everyone who like sports or basketball, this Manga will definitely make your blood boil.

Ugh, I started reading these out of order again. I caught my mistake when I was about 25% of the way through Vol 7, wondering what the heck they were doing at a hot spring. Anyway, this was a terrific volume. We get insights on how the team was formed, Kiyoshi's injury, and a dramatic basketball game against a dirty playing team.

This was for sure a good read I wouldn’t see my favorite other series but definitely an intense and fun time the Shutoku matches are always intense and they are so even throughout the series that it’s amazing to watch, this one’s definitely meant to build the anticipation and I’m all here for it. Overall, a solid 4/5 build the anticipation for the oncoming games and has exciting matches.

Kiyoshi is such a golden retriever to Hyuga's cat. ^_^ They're adorable. Also Hyuga attempting to become a punk in high school XD

Aomine being...a little tiny bit regretful...we can barely see his face but...yeah.

Loved how our boys kept working around the nasty team. Kuroko got angry!

Let just say the match between Seirin and Kirisaki was awesome!!

The other good thing about this volume is the fact that it shows us the backstory of how Seirin was founded.

Loved the backstory and character stuff in this volume. I also loved how they had to deal with the team that made them loose Kiyoshi. Such a great volume definitely one of my favorites.
