Read it for the #48HourJapaneseReadathon.

Wow, this volume had a lot of sexual undertones for a shounen manga. Especially considering the past volumes.

There are a couple twincest gags that are very thinly veiled, and there's a... I'm not sure what to call it. It made me a little uncomfortable, but it was ultimately harmless I guess?

So... yeah. Like I said, this volume gets a little more mature than past volumes, but nothing too out there. Kato-sensei said that it's because so much of this volume focuses on Shura.

Rewelacyjny tom. Mnóstwo się działo. Fajny wątek z przeszłością Shury i wyprawą ratunkową Rina i Yukio. Yukio wymiata! Tyle czekania :(

A mini arc focusing on Shura that also helps the twins to work on their communication with each other. You know, in one of the earlier volumes Kato said that while her readers tend to associated the series with summer due to the early arcs, she actually associates with winter. And you can really tell how much drama - and even joy and cosiness - she can find in a winter setting.

Also I assume she must be lurking around fanfiction on her series because who includes the twins being mistaken for partners (played off as a bit of a joke) and also a couple of instances of an-obvious-choice ships (where they are outright called out as inappropriate) in a couple of consecutive chapters - though, admittedly done not in a corny way.

That being said, I enjoyed the scenes between Rin and Yukio, as well as between Shura and Father Fujimoto. They managed to showcase more of the love and respect each of those characters have for each other. But also, oh, a wink towards the twins' mother?

Oh, backstory on Shura - I like!

I like to get to know more about Shura and woha, having that sword hanging over you since you've been born? Yeah, makes some of her behaviour and decisions more understandable.

I love seeing Rin and Yukio working together. <3

Two things I didn't like - Mephisto sends the brother to find Shura because she's a woman?!? o.O Hello, what? o.O And, the scene when the snake-thingy had both Shura and Yukio under its mind control. :(

Other than that - I like it and I'm curious what will happen next.

We finally learn more about Shura's past: where she came from, how she met Shiro, as well as the origin of her tattoo and sword. I was glad to see Yukio and Rin spending more time together and I hope Rin's words can get through to Yukio. I wonder what is next for Shura and whether Yukio will step away from his dangerous path.

Read like a bad fanfiction. Shura's backstory was really dumb and it felt like unnecessary fan service. Bleh.

Rin and Yukio made this volume great. Just saying...

Sorry, but the backstory felt way too rushed and was over way too fast.

This volume was pretty great--lots on Shura and what her story is, which is really interesting and weird and sad. Plus, some excellent humorous Rin moments, and seeing Rin and Yukio working together is always fun. Didn't really need to see Shura's boobs, but I'm sure many fans of this series were A-okay with that!

No ♡ Kato-sensei no. I mean I'm glad that Shura's situation wasn't seen as ok, but I guess I just hoped that a woman writing shonen wouldn't do something like this to one of her female characters in the first place? She kept some of the details super vague considering the age some of her readers are but like..... you know. And I know.

This volume touches on some REALLY heavy and delicate themes that shonen manga is typically terrible at. Thankfully the execution here turned out fine. Not great, but not bad either, and not nearly as terrible as I was fearing. The tension of waiting for the writing to screw up really, REALLY badly like every other shonen manga in existence added an extra layer of discomfort to the entire arc, so this volume will probably be better on a reread without that same worry hanging over my head.

While the series is still very good, I do not like that Satan is not the main antagonist anymore. This volume was rather unimportant and only created more angst between the two brothers.
It seems like Yukio has become the main character when the whole series is about Rin. I'm hoping things get back on track soon.

Shura's past! While I personally preferred Impure king and Iluminati arc, I appreciate that we get to witness learning about Shura's ancestor and childhood.

This volume definitley had darker and a bit of sexual elements to it. So, as other reviewers have said depending on your likes and dislikes this volume may be uncomfortable. First off, we have Mephiato send off Rin and Yukio to find Shura, but also to relax and enjoy themselves. They check into an inn where an older woman believes Yukio and Rin to be a couple. So, there is humor and poking fun at incest (which makes me wonder if the author is aware of Okumuracest shippers, which they probably are aware. Lol). Personally, I loved these scenes. I found it hilarious and I'm a big softie for the Okumuras. So, I just really enjoyed them going on a mission together just the two of them
Especially since Rin has always wanted to fight demons alongside his younger twin. Meanwhile, he continues to ask Yukio if he's okay and that he can tell him anything and depend on him. Alas, Yukio is stubborn to a fault. Have to thank Mephisto really for sending these two off alone.

So, yes. The first uncomfortable thing is the poking fun and incest jokes.

The second is basically all of Shura's backstory which was revealed this volume. Essentially, her ancestor made a contract with a demon because she wanted to become stronger. So, in order to wield a demon sword and gain this strength Shura's ancestors along with her descendants would live short lives to the age of 30, but before they die, they must bear a child since this demon became infatuated with Shura'd ancestors and believes her descendants ARE her. So, since Shura is like 26 the demon says it is time for her to bear a child which Shura refuses to do and has decided to rebel and has accepted she will die young. This, of course, may make people uncomfortable since the demon is so controlling and dictated on Shura. Adamant about her bearing a child, downright forcing her to do so which I will explain.

Of course, Rin and Yukio do all that is possible to stop Shura's imment death. However, since one non human being and one MALE being have arrived on the scene, the demon uses his powers fo freeze Yukio and hypnotize Shura. So, this leads to the 3rd uncomfortable scene - near rape between Shura and Yukio.

Luckily, both Rin and Yukio work together to stop the demon and let me tell you throughout the whole battle Yukio about gave me a heart attack. I cannot even explain. If anything wants to see me screaming about Yukio and Rin follow me on my tumblr (kuramirocket) and just search my 'okumura twins' tags to see why this is. I swear, I was flailing around and screaming. Lol.

Finally, the fourth uncomfortable scene. How Shura was basically throwing herself to Shiro in a flashback because again she had accepted her fate and had only left the demon's side because he gave her the okay to have a child with Shiro! Of course, Shiro rejected all of her advances and told her to live and respect herself.

Now, all these four things are things that will make many people uncomfortable, but it will depend on each individual. Personally, I did not mind it at all. Sure, it had me screaming like holy!!! But I love dark and angsty themes. And as last volume showed, this series is becoming dark very quickly.

Anyways, the volume ends with Rin launching one final attack and it ends on a cliffhanger.

I had some mixed feelings about this one. The twincest jokes bothered the hell out of me (though the old woman who thought Yukio and Rin were lovers was cool with it so it wasn't quite as homophobic as it could have been). And I've never liked Shura much as she seems like such an exploitative character (strong woman yes but also hypersexualized with the breasts of doom, which by the way you get to see her nipples in this so if you wanted to see that, wish granted).

On the other hand we have some very interesting themes. We see what made Shura who and how she is. I don't want to spoil that but leave it as it was an interesting arc with a very cool bad guy (I loved how the hydra was drawn). In a mild spoiler, poor Yukio nearly has something bad happen to him at the hands of a friend (and the bad guy actually sees Yukio as more of a threat than Rin). There are some funny bits at poor Rin's expense (but he brings it on himself).

While this adds to Shura's character development (and I didn't need to see her lap dancing Father Fujimoto) I'm not sure how it adds to the overall plot development. That said I enjoyed it and the art in this is just fantastic.

When Shura disappears, Mephisto sends Yukio and Rin to find her, telling them to go to Aomori Prefecture, as that is where she is from. Plus the most recent GPS reading places here there. Yukio claims he can handle the assignment alone, to Rin’s dismay, but Mephisto insists they work together, so off they go. He also lets Yuki know that he knows about his dangerous training, and to be careful.

They take a train to Lake Towada and find room in an inn. The old lady who runs the inn assures them they’ll have privacy, having totally misinterpreted their relationship. As they relax in a hot bath, Rin questions Yukio about the dangerous training, which his brother blows off, then reveals how he has messed up with Shiemi. He asks Yuki if he likes Shiemi too, but doesn’t really get an answer to his question. Later, in speaking with the innkeeper, they learn that Shura spent the night there and said when she left that she was sort of going home.

Meanwhile, Shura meets with a mysterious figure she calls Hachiro who is insistent that she keep to the terms of her blood contract and have a child! As Yukio and Rin search for Shura, Yukio tells his brother the story of the baba yaga of Lake Towanda, and of how Father Fujimoto rescued Shura, who was being held prisoner there. Rin senses trouble ahead. They find an injured Shura lying in the snow, and she tells them she is going to die soon! She tells them the story of the blood contract that began even before she was born…

This volume is primarily about Shura, but it’s also about Yukio and Rin, giving them some brotherly alone time which they seldom get. Shura’s backstory is interesting, and the contract she was burdened with horrendous. Finally resigned to her fate, it takes the two brothers to make her see she can have a life of her own. I love the flashbacks of when she met Father Fujimoto. The things she said and did made me laugh, especially when she said she wanted to have his baby! I loved seeing Rin and Yukio working together. I worry about Yukio, and whatever power is coming to light inside of him. I think he’ll be all right. After all, look at Rin! He’s a good boy, just high spirited. And not likely to be swayed to the dark side.

Another great volume, look forward to more!

Shura's ancestors backstory of how she escape from people and meet hachiko dude n made contract with him. I love shura ♥️ she kind remind me of erza scarlet from fairytail n I don't want her to die like her past generation. Shura's backstory - the day she train her sword skills against hachiko, going to village n meet shiro, shiro give shura her first name. Shura & shiro moment, shura love shiro because he's strong but shiro in other hand want her to live well like normal should do. Yukio put his both hand at Rin eyes so he can't see the hachiko eyes😂 (I remembered that Rin with careless act moment). Rin doesn't want shura to die so he gonna kill hachiko dude even yukio got a suprise plan that made Rin been fool 😂. I give it 4.5⭐, there's most of sexual thing in some of the panel & when Rin about to used power against hachiko after that it stop there. Shura need some new clothes that doesn't show her chest. Next volume 18 pls ~🤩 I wanted to know what's happened next~

This was actually a really good manga. As of now this series has been catching my interest and my love for manga again. So to the story, its clear in the picture it has to be about Shura one of rin's mentor and yukio's longtime coworker in a way. The story starts with shura going back to her home town and rin and yukio going after her. With this her story unfolds and we start knowing more about her and her abilities. To how she got them and why. It had humor which I love and good humor to say that got me laughing out loud literally. We start also seeing more of yukio's ways of trying to cope and understand his thoughts about keeping everything that's happening to him from rin. We also see a really scary side of him if you read or see between each others expression especially Shura's. Good Manga, manga lovers should read this.

While I am used to Shura being scantily clad, this volume takes it a bit further. I'll put how far under spoilers just in case: she exposes her breasts, showing nipples, to Father Fujimoto while trying to seduce him. She and Shiemi have always been problematic because of the focus on their assets as material for jokes, but here we get an explanation of Shura's hypersexual behavior. Unfortunately, it comes along with jokes from a creepy old lady about Rin and Yukio being lovers instead of brothers (despite Yukio's protests) and all of Shura's power is in connection with an old snake not wanting her to grow old (ugly), which is a bit disappointing. And Yukio's ruse was way too good. I'm still not sure that he didn't actually mean it, despite the fact that it almost worked in the good guys' favor.

The main portion of the story was pretty cool--we get Shura's background, which has only been vaguely hinted at up till now. The brothers are sent out to save her by Sir Pheles after she disappears, and in the process we see Yukio and Rin really working together as a team--if not for the first time, than at least the first I can remember. Yukio in particular demonstrates how brains are worth a boatload of powers when well applied, and well, Rin is Rin.

Four stars instead of five because oh holy crap there's a lot of innuendo in this one. Unnecessary too, it serves no plot purpose whatsoever just a couple of twincest jokes and a boob sight gag that wasn't funny. Honestly I was disappointed in those aspects.

This was a pretty good volume. There was the humor of seeing the old lady’s misunderstanding of what Rin and Yukio were there for. It reminded me of certain parts of the fandom. Then we saw a bit of Shura’s backstory. Which was a lot darker than I was expecting. Yukio is kind of scary, and the fact that Shura wasn’t sure about his motivations is pretty clear proof that he’s in a dark place.

That last flashback of Shura and Fujimoto was gross, and I don’t feel it added anything to the story besides being fan service. The words spoken could have been poignant if not for the circumstances they were spoken in. It’s why my rating went from four stars to three. All in all, this is a good series though, with an interesting story. I hope the next volume is better.
