If you ask me my favorite thing to do in this world, my answer will be simple and pretty straightforward.
It is to watch the sunset near the banks of Bharathappuzha.
I had first seen Bharathappuzha only when I was 12 years old. But it feels like my whole childhood was connected to it. It might be due to the books I read from authors like M.T. and Alankode Leelakrishnan during childhood.
Bharathappuzha or Nila is one of the main reasons I started reading Non-fiction. I kept wondering why this beautiful river was getting thinner and thinner each summer. That led me to the topics of unauthorized usage of the river sand for construction and global warming. It took me to the books of authors like Rachel Carson and learn more about humankind's nasty side.
We keep on complaining about climate change and the cruel nature the earth is behaving towards us. These books showed me that it is not the earth that is acting in a hostile manner to us, but it is just the earth reflecting back the cruelty we are showing towards it.
This book by Rajan Chungath will help you to know more about this beautiful river and why people love this river so much. This is a must-read book if you are someone who loves nature.
