Does America face a jihadist threat that's even bigger than terrorism? While our homeland security efforts are focused on preventing terrorist attacks, another jihadist threat is growing right here in America--in plain sight.
In Stealth Jihad, Islam expert and New York Times bestselling author Robert Spencer blows the whistle on a long-term plot by Islamic jihadists to undermine the United States. This effort aims not to bring America to its knees through attacks with guns or bombs, but to subvert the country from within--by gradually Islamizing America. The ultimate goal, the stealth jihadists themselves declare, is nothing less than the adoption of Islamic law in the United States. Describing the disturbing ease with which stealth jihadists have already become ensconced in the American political and media landscapes, Spencer exposes the full modus operandi of the movement as revealed in a stunning document unveiled in a recent terrorism funding trial. In this unsettling book, he
* Which Islamic fundamentalist organization is behind the stealth jihad * How stealth jihadists have reinvented themselves as mainstream civil rights activists--despite their many past declarations of Islamic supremacism * How stealth jihadists played a key role in formulating U.S. government guidelines for the War on Terror * How insistence on "accommodating" Islamic cultural and religious practices in America is part of a calculated strategy to achieve a dangerous larger agenda * The effort by stealth jihadists to whitewash the teaching of Islam in schools * What can be done to defeat the stealth jihad and preserve America's liberty
America, Spencer demonstrates, is all but oblivious to a new kind of threat presented by a loosely organized movement whose activists are well funded, highly motivated, and relentless in pursuit of their agenda. This book is a wake-up call for a country so focused on foreign threats that it has left itself vulnerable to a growing danger much closer to home.

Spencer (MA, Religious Studies, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill) has been studying Islamic theology, law, and history in depth since 1980. His work has aroused the ire of the foes of freedom and their dupes: in October 2011, Muslim Brotherhood-linked groups wrote to Homeland Security Advisor (and current CIA director) John Brennan, demanding that Spencer be removed as a trainer for the FBI and military groups, which he taught about the belief system of Islamic jihadists; Brennan immediately complied as counter-terror training materials were scrubbed of all mention of Islam and jihad. Spencer has been banned by the British government from entering the United Kingdom for pointing out accurately that Islam has doctrines of violence against unbelievers. He has been invited by name to convert to Islam by a senior member of al-Qaeda.
This book provides a wealth of information on how radical Islam/Islamic supremacists are subverting America without guns and bombs! Robert Spencer is a foremost expert on radical Islam and national security matters. Examples of this jihad are present in our institutions, schools and even the military and intelligence communities. The author highlights the burden of being labeled "racist", "islamaphobic" and a purveyor of "hate speech" for those who speak out in the fight against "Stealth Jihad". However, the silencing of those who speak out is detrimental to our national security and constitutional principles. This is a must read book.
This was definitely an exciting and engaging book to read. Just conspiratorial enough to be a page turner. But it is also just a touch too conspiratorial, so that you cannot totally believe the author. I'll explain why. Anyway, the basic thesis here is that Islamic fundamentalists are infiltrating the west via "moderate" Islamic groups which are really Muslim Brotherhood fronts, via pressure on American academic institutions to generate apologetics for Islam in the vein anti-orientalist scholarship, and via popularizing certain memes like "islamaphobia" or "racism" as the automatic responses to any critique of Islam. And perhaps a few other techniques like proselytization and immigration and helping in the left's pro- political correctness pro-multi-culturalism pro-relativism "culture war".
To properly review the book would entail a LOT of fact checking, which I don't have time for. But I did fact check a few things. There have in fact been a surprising number of "moderate" Islamic non-profits which have connections with the Muslim Brotherhood, or other shady organizations. It has happened enough times that I believe some funny business is going on here. The same is true for middle eastern influence on ivy league academic appointments. Plus, the attempts to explain these connections by moderate Muslim leaders are frequently very unconvincing.
That said, I think that the author's standard of evidence is fairly low (this is why it is conspiratorial). If a single connection, be it a monetary link, a note of support on a website, a shared leader, etc, is discovered between a "moderate" entity and a "radical" one, the "moderate" is then presumed to be secretly infected with the "radical" ideology. This is true even if there is one or two middlemen between the two groups. I know from just working with/in various ideological organizations that people or organizations can easily become associated with various other groups or individuals which hold more "radical" positions, without adopting those positions. Organizations will pretty much take money from whoever will give it, and a lot of rich Muslim organizations based in the middle east are likely to be donating to both western moderates, and radicals. People also frequently work for organizations or endorse them for career, political, or other pragmatic reasons. There needs to be more than a couple stray links before we confidently assert that a moderate Muslim organization is involved in the "stealth jihad".
In general, I think this book overplays the risk here. There would need to be a LOT more proselytization and conversion to Islam, or immigration, before radicals had even the remotest chance of implementing actually Islamic laws in the United States. The book acknowledges this in its explicit wording, but doesn't acknowledge it in tone. But the book gets some things right too. We seem to be obsessively focused on terrorism or violent variants of Islamism. But Islamic rule can be achieved through democratic channels, demographic changes, or long run cultural subversion of other forms. We are also too obsessively focused on the frightening prospect of full implementation of Sharia as we see it in Saudi Arabia for example. But intelligent, non-violent Islamists wouldn't attempt to achieve that for the foreseeable future. They would attempt to do things like siphoning public funding for purely religious education (The actions of Hasidic Jews in New York provide a ready template for them to model). They would attempt to sabotage our foreign policy if it was effectively combatting Islamism. They would attempt to keep our discourse focused away from Islam's violent characteristics. Perhaps implement blasphemy laws. Perhaps offer monetary assistance to radicals in other countries. You get the idea. That is the stuff to be more watchful of. Not just the more "sexy" threat of radicalization and ensuing terror attacks. I feel like these points could have been made with a bit more caution and subtlety, but that would have made the book very "academic" sounding and killed sales Im sure.
A must read for all American's but beware, it will make your blood boil and your hair stand on end. I can't say I enjoyed reading this book however, I certainly feel more informed about what is going on behind our backs with the government's approval. If not approval, they are finding it easier to ignore than to fight.
The first half of the book is hard to read with all the Arabic names and organizations but it is very telling. The really scary stuff is in the second half of the book where we find that schools are allowed to teach our children about Islam when no other religion is allowed.........why aren't the same people who got prayer pulled from our schools tackling this one? Airports that build special rooms for Muslim cabbies to wash their feet before prayer, universities that make special allowances for Muslim students............sometimes these allowances start out as multiculteral but then the Muslims push everyone else out. The Muslims are the first to yell racism when they can't have what they want. Our own fear is going to kill this country.
Please read this book. You might not like what it has to say but at least you will know what is going on behind closed doors. Things we would never imagine.
IS ISLAM ATTEMPTING TO TAKE OVER OUR COUNTRY THROUGH COVERT MEANS?
Robert Bruce Spencer (born 1962) is an American author and one of the key figures of the ‘counter-jihad’ movement. His website, ‘Jihad Watch,’ reports on purported ‘Islamic extremism.’ (He is also a Fellow at the David Horowitz Freedom Center, and has written several politically conservative books.)
He wrote in the Introduction to this 2008 book, “In this book, I offer evidence for the proposition that terror attacks involving bombings and shootings are not the sum total of terrorist aspirations, but are just one component of a larger initiative. The goal of that initiative is the imposition of jihadists’ ideology over the world---over their fellow Muslims and non-Muslims alike. That ideology may be summed up by the phrase ‘radical Islam’… I have long contended that Islam is unique among the major world religions in having a developed doctrine, theology, and legal system mandating warfare against the subjugation of unbelievers. There is no orthodox sect or school of Islam that teaches that Muslims must coexist peacefully as equals with non-Muslims on an indefinite basis.
“I use the term ‘radical Islam’ merely to distinguish those Muslims who are actively working to advance this subjugation from the many millions who are not, as well as to emphasize that the stealth jihad program is truly radical: it aims at nothing less than the transformation of American society and the imposition of Islamic law here, subjugating women and non-Muslims to the state of legal inferiors. Those who are working to advance [this] … are not doing it solely by violent means… the evidence presented in this book shows that the distinction ought to be placed… between those Muslims who believe that Islam law is the perfect system for human society… and those Muslims who support Western pluralistic governments and seek to live with non-Muslims as equals, under secular tule, on an indefinite basis.” (Pg. 4-6)
He explains, “For this is a jihad---a struggle to advance the cause of Islam… but it is a jihad without any of the signs that law enforcement officials are trained to recognize as indications of terrorist activity. There are no guns and bombs… It is a jihad that advances without violent attacks at a time when almost all our ‘anti-terror’ resources and energy are devoted to heading off another violent attack on American soil… It is a jihad, but one whose leaders work within the American communities and organizations, and quite often have won the respect and gratitude of their non-Muslim colleagues and peers. It is a jihad whose leaders enjoy the respect of the mainstream media, who often aid and bet their efforts to present themselves as benign civil rights advocates and conceal their actual agenda. It… has a good chance to transform American society before most Americans have any idea of what’s happening. It should rightly be called a stealth jihad.” (Pg. 12-13)
Later, he adds, “there is a concerted effort in American today by Islamic organizations to further a series of initiatives that are outwardly quite different in their stated purposes, and are being advanced by different groups of people… they are all geared… to encourage Americans to downplay anti-terror initiatives, accommodate Muslim practices, and make special exceptions for Islamic law… The result… would be an America completely subjugated under Islamic law… An America in which non-Muslims must humble themselves before Muslims, not daring to say or do anything that they find offensive. This stealth jihad is advancing steadily and quietly, and most Americans have no idea it is happening at all.” (Pg. 29-30)
He states, “This brings us back to our central question: Why do they [Muslims] hate us?... they hate us not because of anything we have done, but because fundamental Islamic imperatives command them to do so.” (Pg. 41)
He argues, “The attempt to compel Western states to ban insults to Islam is quickly picking up speed… since Islamic supremacists and their allies routinely characterize all investigation of the Islamic roots of the jihadist agenda as ‘hate speech.’ … we’re pressured to accommodate Islam by placing the religion off-limits to critical discussion… One would have never thought that Westerners would give up free speech of their own accord, but we are now in the process of carving out a major exception for Islam.” (Pg. 80-81) Later, he adds, “With potential critics intimidated into silence by the knowledge that voicing their concerns about Islam will likely result in ostracism on charges of ‘bigotry’ at best or physical violence at worst, very few commentators are left who are willing to stand up publicly to the full scope of the jihadists’ efforts.” (Pg. 90-91)
He says, “[An] example is provided by the prominent U.S. Muslim spokesman Siraj Wahhaj, who is a former member of CAIR’s advisory board. In the early 1990s he sponsored talks… by Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman, the ‘blind sheikh’ now imprisoned for conspiring to blow up the World Trade Center in 1993. In fact, Wahhaj was designated as a ‘potential unindicted co-conspirator’ in the case… But soon after September 11, Wahhaj… pledge his efforts against the ideology of those who brought down the twin towers: ‘I now feel responsible to preach, actually to go on a jihad against extremism.’ … Having completely overhauled his image, Wahhaj is not often trotted out by the media as a spokesman for ‘moderate’ Muslims.” (Pg. 107)
He states, “In appalling … display of moral inversion, MPAC [Muslim Public Affairs Council]… posed the question: ‘Why does this campaign focus just on Muslims? Why not extremists amongst Christians and Jews? …. Without doubt Christian extremists such as Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, and Franklin Graham… need to be held accountable for their falsehoods and distortions.’ If Robertson, Fallwell, Graham… were beheading and blowing people up on the name of their religion, this equation of ‘extremists’ might be justified. But in reality it is a ghastly bit of character assassination… No one of any stature in the U.S. … has ever recommended ‘rounding up’ Muslims. And if Muslims are the focus… [it’s] because it is Muslim groups---not Christian or Jewish ones---that are behind the vast majority of terrorist attacks in the world.” (Pg. 131)
He asserts, “the accommodation of Islamic prayer in the workplace is not simply a matter of… adapting to the realities of our new multicultural environment. If the groups making these demands were not connected to an effort to subvert Western civilization, these accommodations might be just that… But since the stealth jihad effort has come to light… [we can see they are] an attempt to create a special class---Muslims---that has special privileges recognized in law.” (Pg. 157) Later, he adds, “Every Western capitulation made to demands for separate accommodations for Muslims only feeds these supremacist notions… This just postpones the inevitable conflict over the stealth jihad to impose sharia in America. Will Muslims receive special permission in American society to discriminate against certain people?... This debate is going to have to take place sooner or later.” (Pg. 176)
He contends, “If we are to win the war against the jihadists, we need to have a thorough understanding of their doctrine, history, and sources of inspiration. Sadly, the segment of America most suited to investigating these questions—academic experts in Middle Eastern Studies---has rejected this responsibility… As a result, many American citizens as well as policy makers continue to cast about in vain for a way to satisfy our enemies’ grievances.” (Pg. 254)
He concludes, “As we campaign to implement the Myrick plan [the proposals of Representative Sue Myrick, R-NC], we should advocate the following additional steps: *Enforce existing laws [against overthrowing the government by force]… *Reclassify Muslim organizations. Any Muslim group in American that does not explicitly renounce… any intention … to replace the Constitution of the United State with Islamic sharia should either be closed or… classified as a political rather than a religious organization… *End Muslim immigration into the United States… *Take pride in our own culture…” (Pg. 277-278)
Although Spencer probably does not intend this, his books contain statements that seem quite ‘radical’ and akin to imposing ‘Loyalty Oaths’ as well as limiting Free Speech. This book will appeal strongly to some, but turn away even more.
This is a fairly scholarly look at the inroads Islam has made in the United States, specifically when it entails the institutionalism of sharia law and/or the subjugation of non-Muslims to Muslims via various means such as vilification. The author cites many examples where people of seemingly-good intent have restricted the rights of others in favor of Muslims in an effort to appear multicultural or non-racist. Simply by not towing the party line “Islam is religion of peace” and treating Muslims as special-citizens, one may find his or herself castigated and without a job. Since this has already occurred in some of the higher-echelons of the US government, all citizens have a duty to be concerned.
The book raises some very good questions regarding the state of the Union and the freedom of her citizens. Ideally, a free society has no need of any law whatsoever since the law acts as a constraint on freedom. In order to achieve this, all citizens must be of a spirit of righteousness. This is of course achievable and available in Christ Jesus since the Spirit He gives us is just that. Anyone that does not know Lord necessarily needs constraint since they are of the flesh.
The power of “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” isn't some intellectual exercise or curiosity, rather it is due to the retroactive, instantaneous judgement of Christ unto believers: “Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.” This moral guide or compass is only available to believers in Christ.
Thus, the freedom of the United States is dependent upon the relationship of her citizens with the Lord. Should citizens become unfit to rule themselves, that is to say, each person rule his or her own self with propriety, then an external, draconian law such as sharia may inevitably result.
Poor argument that is supported with quotes from extremists and rampant use of the slippery slope fallacy. If you already believe that there is a culture war on, you might love the book, but he presents no real insight and doesn’t support his argument well.
Beyond the weak foundation, he is repetitive; using numerous quotes from the same organizations to beat the reader over the head with his intended point. He’s got enough material for a magazine article and that’s about it.
i consider this information everyone should be privy to. I follow this stuff daily, so it is not new to me and therefore the book was all repeat for me. But it is a book every home should have and know what is in it and they need to keep up with what is going on in the world.
Merged review:
He is a favorite of mine - Robert Spencer. Has the web site www.jihadwatch.org
Bruce Bawer covers the same ground in a much more cool-headed readable style. The second half of this book has some revealing news clips and anecdotes, but overall I would recommend Bawer's "Surrender" over this book to anyone interested in reading just one volume on the topic.
My group hosted him so I tried to give him a chance, but anything Islamic is evil and anything Christian is good. Some demands some Muslims make are reasonable and some are unreasonable, but aren't people just unreasonable, regardless of religion?
#Stealth Jihad: How Radical Islam Is Subverting America without Guns or Bombs by #RobertSpencer
Book #32 of the year '23
Published: 28-Oct-2008
Message of the book: America faces a jihadist threat, even more heinous than terrorism as the homeland focuses its security efforts on preventing terrorist attacks, rather than the burgeoning jihadist threat in plain sight.
The book is described in the media as "unsettling" - which it must have been fifteen years back, but having lived in India where the demography is changing quickly in favour of the local, legal and illegal immigrants - with the distinction between them increasingly blurring, I would use the word "deja vu". Unhappilly so.
Spencer outlines the disturbing ease with which stealth jihadists have already become entrenched in the American political, educational, military, investigating agencies, and media landscapes. They veil their true character, and thus they are welcome anywhere- they gather info/ documents helpful to Jehadi organisations.
Spencer explains, via connecting the dots, a long-term plot by Islamic jihadists to undermine and then control the US, by subverting democracy and plurality, after having elected a Muslim POTUS. This stealth jehad doesn't employ weapons like bombs or sophisticated guns to attack and inflict damage, but steadily works to subvert the US from within - by gradually Islamizing the country.
The ultimate goal declared by the stealth jihadists is: Adoption of Islamic law in the US. Ditto anywhere else in the world.
Spencer discusses in detail the vile strategy, the covert actions and odious repercussions suffered by the US, without shying away from naming the names. He elaborates, how:
1. the stealth jihadists, who earlier declared their allegiance to Islamic supremacism, have metamorphosed into "innocent" mainstream civil rights activists/ educationists, etc., while they either maintain a deadly silence at any terror/ destructive activities of Muslims or blame "poverty, destitution..." what's come to be known as, "playing the victim card".
2. the Islamic fundamentalist organizations, both from Islamic nations as well as the US, are squarely behind the stealth jihad. He gives examples, complete with names, relationships between them, common people at the helm of affairs in seemingly innocent organisation, the go-between organisation and the staunch terrorist organisation. He even gives example of similar person who contributed to and held funding rallies for Obama.
3. the stealth jihadists played an integral part in drawing up the US govt. guidelines for the War on Terror.
4. the insistence of the stealth jihadists on "accommodating" Islamic cultural and muslim religious practices in the US form part of a planned strategy to achieve a more sinister hidden agenda. Eg. whitewash of the teaching of Islam in schools to make it acceptable, segregation of girls and boys in classrooms, and, men and women in swimming pools; hijab/ burka/ burkini..., separate prayer rooms and floor level sinks for Muslims, educational courses thinly veiled as "assignments" that are formulated to leave an indelible biased impression against the American proponents of democracy and critics of jehad, islamic holidays, banning of pork/ alcohol from cafeteria/ restaurants, secret communities consisting only of converted Afro American Muslims, polygamy...
I found this really shocking! And, I realised that India isn't the only country to suffer similar covert Islamisation. There's France literally burning today, or the bloody riots in Sweden, major parts of London are solely populated by Muslims, and similar fate of other countries of the world. They gradually spread islamic beliefs to make them acceptable, and then convert. India has rightly seen an outcry against conversion of gullible Hindu girls and boys.
At the same time Islamic countries do not extend similar accomodation to foreigners, eg even the late Queen of England and Mrs Obama, both had to wear long skirts and hijab in Saudi.
5. can stealth jihad be defeated to preserve America's liberty. Spencer gives doable suggestions- most significant - investigate the SOVEREIGN FUNDS, for that's where the money is routed for stealth Jehadi activities.
"America, Spencer demonstrates, is all but oblivious to a new kind of threat presented by a loosely organized movement whose activists are well funded, highly motivated, and relentless in pursuit of their agenda. This book is a wake-up call for a country so focused on foreign threats that it has left itself vulnerable to a growing danger much closer to home."
Spencer uses the word Diman (Google gave this meaning: orbicular dung of camel) that muslims use for non believers of Islam, and they believe that Diman deserve to be first demeaned, enslaved and then destroyed. It's coming true daily.
Author Robert Spencer describes a long-term stealth strategy of jihad aimed at subverting American society from within. He proposes that while most counter-terrorism efforts focus on violent attacks, stealth jihad is a campaign to gradually introduce and ultimately establish Islamic law (Sharia) in the U.S. The author shows terror sponsors like Muslim Brotherhood and the Council of Islamic American Relations (CAIR) as the driving force behind this movement. They have reinvented themselves as mainstream civil rights activists to conceal an agenda of enforcement of Islamic values and Muslim culture. The strategies used by them are: Influencing U.S. government policy and guidelines on the War on Terror; the teaching of Islam in schools as a religion of peace; accommodations for Islamic religious practices at workplaces, public places like airports, and schools as part of a larger strategy; influencing government; and news media and entertainment landscapes. The goal is the same as that of violent jihad.
This is a very illuminating work where the author clearly exposes Islam as inherently a violent political ideology, where religion, society and government are strongly integrated to impose Islamic laws much more efficiently.
The author argues that radical Islamic groups are using different tactics like political pressure and manipulating the legal system to impose their ideology on American society.
The book has a lot of information and the author uses different sources like primary documents, experts' interviews and his own research. He goes into detail about the different strategies and tactics used by these groups and how it affects American security. The book is easy to read and understand, the author writes in a way that makes it easy to follow along.
