#6 in multiple New York Times bestseller Larry Correia’s Monster Hunter series.

GO BIG OR GO HOME

When Monster Hunter International's top hunter, Owen Zastava Pitt, was given a tip about some hunters who had gone missing in action, he didn’t realize their rescue mission would snowball into the single biggest operation in MHI's history. Their men are being held prisoner in a horrific nightmare dimension, and the only way to reach them is through the radioactive ruins of a monster-infested war zone.

As if that wasn't bad enough, it’s also the home base of the powerful creature behind the devastating attacks on the Last Dragon and Copper Lake. It turns out ancient gods of chaos really hate trespassers. But this god picked a fight with the wrong crew, and now MHI wants payback. Calling on their allies, a massive expedition is formed, and with the odds stacked against them, a legion of hunters goes to war.

It’s D-Day at the City of Monsters.

Monster Hunter Siege :

"Correia’s latest slugfest between men and demons covers all the heavy-duty weaponry, slick military banter, humor, tough evil dudes, and a strong-jawed hero who’s ready to save the world."— Publishers Weekly

Monster Hunter International is one of - if not the best paranormal/fantasy series I've ever read. Each book is loaded with non-stop action, adventure, abductions, shootings, rescuings, blowing things (and monsters) up, plannings, maimings, plottings, killings, and fiercely devious excitement!

I can't recommend this series highly enough to anyone looking for something that has everything (except sex, there's no sex in these books and in my opinion the stories are better for it). I've been binge reading this series since Bean told me about it and I cannot get enough!

Book 1, Monster Hunter International is often free so you can give it a try at no risk to your wallet. And please do, you won't be sorry! http://amzn.to/2tmAs7C via Amazon.

An eARC was provided by Baen Publishers and in appreciation I'm giving them an honest review.

Another supremely entertaining book, Monster Hunter Siege continues the story of top monster hunter Owen Z. Pitt, raising the stakes higher than ever and upping the already epic scale of monster related mayhem.

Siege picks up the threads of the main MHI storyline following the events of Legion and the battle at the Last Dragon in Vegas. Guilty over the loss of two men in Vegas as a direct result of a decision he made, when Owen hears that they may be alive he leaps at the opportunity to save them. There is, however, the small problem of a literal army of monsters standing between MHI and their missing men. So naturally, MHI forms its own army of hunters and goes after them.

After a book focusing on Agent Franks, Siege is all about Owen. He and MHI take center stage in this story. The book almost seemed split into roughly two sections. The first was primarily preparation for the massive rescue operation, and the second was the operation itself. I actually found that I enjoyed the first part better. There were some good character interactions, especially between Owen and his family, and several really fun scenes. One encounter with an off the books MCB asset and another with a questionable Russian ally were particular highlights for me. A tense sit down between two supernatural factions was another hilarious scene.

Once the operation gets underway, things get pretty chaotic. There were a few twists toward the end that I’m not sure I loved, but overall Siege was another strong MHI story that left me impatient for the next book to come out.

As always with a MHI book, reading this was just plain fun. Correia’s MHI series is easily near the top of the list of most entertaining books I’ve ever read. They’re well-paced, have phenomenal action, and an underlying bantering tone that keeps things from ever feeling too bleak, no matter the situation.

Continuing my re-read of the series

"Skippy crush! Drive enemy! Hear lame things from their womens!" Skippy had almost gotten the Conan quote right. I was so proud.

MHI gets information that some of the hunters who disappeared in the Nightmare realm while fighting in The Last Dragon still remain alive. To rescue them and face off with the Chaos god Asag they will need to fight their way through the City of Monsters to access the portal to that realm.
Pitt finds out from his father that this is the battle that has been keeping him alive.
So with his wife staying home pregnant & his father dying, Pitt, along with the greatest collection of hunters ever gathered are heading to battle.

The sixth book in the series. Spoilers ahead for earlier ones.

Especially since it opens with Owen's father revealing the last information to his sons, and collapsing on the floor, and then goes on with the news Owen had gotten, of the trapped survivors in the other world.

The whole process, starting with drawing up a plan and selling it to the others at Monster Hunters International. And outward.

Among other things, this involves a hunt, a magical ring, a talk with a ghost who had been the Chosen, a cyclops, a convoy, using an icebreaker in the summer, bribes, a revelation to a bunch of monster hunters, and a lot more.

Like the rating says I liked this latest book in the series. I don't know if it's the fact that all the other books have been awesome, and that my expectations were too high for this book, I just felt like it was just ok.
I think this book would be easy for someone to pickup and start reading that has not read any of the other books, but at the same time that was one of the problems I had with the book. Seemed like everything had to be tied into something that has happened in the series.

I love MHI, and was really excited to read Siege since it purported to really raise the stakes.

Siege was enjoyable, but it wasn't as good as the other books in the series. Looking back, Alpha, Legion, and Nemesis were all badass, and all very different. Siege wasn't as good as any of those.

There were three major things lacking for me in this book.

First is there just wasn't enough involvement from other characters. The interplay between the team and the feistiness of other characters really help Owen's character shine. This book was basically *just* Owen for long periods of time.

Second is there was a little too much luck in the story and not as much genuine character cleverness. I know we're in a world of freaky ultra-powerful supernatural stuff happening, but in past books (Alpha and Nemesis in particular) the characters had to think their ways out of situations vs. just being helped out.

Third is the characters never really felt in jeopardy, and so the plot felt flat. The climax didn't feel like a climax, if that makes sense.

Still, overall enjoyable. It's an MHI book after all. I just hope that the next one picks it back up to the standards of the rest of the series.

The largest army of monster hunters has been assembled from all over the globe to lay siege to an island crawling with monsters. In a remote and inhospitable part of the world these courageous men and women journey to rescue some of their number thought lost in Monster Hunter Legion.

Mr. Correia writes an enjoyable story. One that I hope he is able to continue for many more fun books.
In fact, someone needs to option this for a television series!

Very Recommended!

In fact, go to Amazon and download the first book, Monster Hunter International for free. I hope you enjoy it.

It feels like a long time since I got to sink my teeth into a Monster Hunter Internal story. Well at least one that takes place in the main story arc that is.

I did indeed have rather high expectations on this one and Mr. Correia certainly delivered.

The book continues the story from book five. Hell, at least as far as I remember. The last book was published three years ago and I have to confess that some of the details might have faded in my memory.

We get introduced to Owen’s father who, not surprisingly, is just as much badass as his son. He also has a secret. I do not think I can explain it without spoiling too much so I will not try but it’s a big one and it’s pretty a damned important one for the story.

As usual with books from Larry Correia it is a well written book, no bullshit, plenty of action, enjoyable dialogue and lots and lots of hardware that makes loud noises (okay there was a few Katana’s and other cutting instruments as well). Actually in this movie the amount of hardware is overshadowing all the previous books taken together. MHI is going to war! Not only MHI but pretty much the entire monster hunter community…all over the world.

With all this going on the book is a bit different from the previous books. It is on a different scale and although Owen is still the main character, and one crucial for the story, the books is not so much about the MHI team as the other books but rather about good versus evil on a global scale. I have no problem with that.

My one gripe about this book is, where the fuck is Frank? Yes, yes, I know he was briefly present in the beginning but I really miss the little altercations between Frank and the MHI team.

Overall a great book and it was so good to sink my eyes into a Larry Correia book again.

I really have to say that MHI is one of those series for which I will put (nearly) anything else down to read. It has everything I could ask for - action, humor... in other words, fun! Some would even say... WrongFun! (Then again, what would you expect from someone who's been described as "not a real author"?)
Can't wait for the next book!

After finding out he is The Chosen One, our monster hunter finds himself in another dimension where things are terrible. The Wild Hunt is out and about, and occasionally hunting after him.

The Wild Hunt is certainly interesting, and in real life, there are sightings to this day.

It's the sort of thing you either like or you don't.

I used to enjoy Correia's novels because they were fun and action packed, and since the focus was on those aspects, it was easy to ignore the right-wing politics that poked their head every once in a while.

By this point in the series, the smug and self-congratulatory tone of the p.o.v. character and most people he encounters (right-wing gun-nuts are awesome people, everybody else is a coward, or a liar and a pussy without honor), the Mary-Sueness of his obvious stand-in character, and the fact that a fat accountant who's obsessed with guns and writes fantasy somehow seems to think he and his politics are the gold standard for what's cool, finally got tiresome.

When I read "MHM: Grunge" I was surprised by how much of a smug asshole John Ringo seemed to be judging by his foreword, but I guess it's not an accident that he collaborated with Correia, since it's becoming apparent that they share a lot of personality traits. And not the good kind.

When most of the book is only inconsequential filler both for its own plot and for the overall arc of the series, and many scenes start feeling reminiscent of the one where his main character in "Dead Six" runs into a character who is described in a way that he's obviously Michael Moore, despite his name never being mentioned, in the palace of a Saddam Hussein analogue and expects us to find it clever because "liberals are traitors to America" or some such bullshit designed to pander to the lowest common denominator, then you know fun and entertainment are no longer the main objective.

Then I read about his involvement in that "Sad Puppies" thing, and yeah, the guy is a self-absorbed asshole alright. But hey, what can you expect from a guy whining that the Hugo Awards go to "literary works with heavy-handed progressive messages" while he writes endlessly about how liberals suck and only gun-obsessed alpha male types "like him" get things done and unironically writes quips about PETA being probably outraged because a six-legged monster freak got torn to bits by heavy gunfire in the middle of a war-zone where a battle to prevent the end of the world is being fought.

I'll probably finish the series just to see what happens, but man, more and more this guy seems to be a jerk who delights in being a troll and thinks he's much more clever than he actually is, while ironically being proud of not being a "literary" writer (because culture is for snobs and so on). So, he's a fucking idiot douchebag increasingly pandering to his dumbass core audience, and that's not funny in the current climate where American Right Wingers are doing exactly what they accuse liberals of doing: ruining everything for everybody.

Synopsis:

Owen Zastava Pitt is the top hunter for Monster Hunter International or MHI. When Asag, a god of chaos, launches a devastating attack on a convention of monster hunters, some hunters are missing in action. They are now being held in a nightmare dimension. The only way to rescue them is through the radioactive ruins of a monster war zone. This is also Asag’s home base. MHI does not leave their people behind, and they want payback.

Owen Pit must assemble an international team to invade the City of Monsters, and penetrate the nightmare realm that follows no natural rules that humans understand.

Review:

I did not read the previous volumes of the series, but the story held together well enough that it could stand by itself. Monster Hunter Siege was a fun read that once one got started it was hard to put down. While the action was serious, the story had some lighter, quirky elements. MHI has a network troll. Really. A troll runs their computer network when he can be pried away from Call of Duty. Orcs act as mercenaries. One orc has an elf girlfriend. Her mother does not approve.

The story is told in the first person, from Owen Pitt’s point of view. Hence, the story is told the way Owen speaks, and I found this to be distracting for an otherwise good book. This doesn’t detract the intense action, making the story a fun read.

This is the 6th book in the Monster Hunter International series by Larry Correia. In my opinion it is the best one yet and they have all been good. This one takes place just after the attack on the Monster Hunter convention in Las Vegas where many Hunters were killed and some were lost to the nightmare pocket dimension of the ancient god of chaos, Asag. The Monster Hunters decide it's time to take the battle to the monsters and retrieve their lost people. With the help of Monster Hunter organizations from around the world Owen Pitt and crew decide to lay siege to Asag's realm and stop him once and for all. This book is a great read in this series and I recommend it.

GO BIG OR GO HOME.

Well Larry Correia went definitively big in this one. Another book from MHI series and another move further in the main story. What I really love about the MHI series is a fact that each book move story further and there are no blank fill ups. Each new entry in the series introduce something new and change the game in rapid way. This time it is just...... you know the end of the word. But that's not obstacle for Owen Zastava Pitt. This book is mostly about him and he really shines. So for story itself I recommend it. Performance is top-quality too, as usual for Audible, so that's one extra star from me.

While in some ways you can say this is a bit of a transitional book, it is still very well written and feels like it is advancing the overall story arc. Though it really does only go so far. That said, I really enjoyed the story in this one and liked how all the characters developed, and the details about Pitt's family that were unveiled.

The whole Monster Hunter series is an entertaining read, this is no different and you get pretty much what you expect. Many die hards will no doubt dislike me for saying that I actually preferred some of the earlier books in the series that have explored other characters than the main one, and protagonist on this book, Owen Zastave Pitt - the (somewhat unusual) mystically 'chosen one' who returns as the main character in this book, and we go back to the main arc of the series.
As I said, a very decent entertaining read, I just didn't think that Correia stretched himself as well with Siege as he has with others.
