Rate this book
Toby Kincaid loves being the junior librarian in his hometown of Sandy Lake, Ohio. He spends his days surrounded by books and chatting with the library patrons. Sean Miggles is also pretty cute—especially for an older guy who wears ties and suit pants every day.

But Sean keeps himself at a distance, and there’s a sadness about him that Toby can’t figure out. When Sean is accused of a crime he didn’t commit, he gives up without a fight. Toby realizes that he alone can save the library—and their head librarian.

Toby will need to uncover the darkness in Sean’s past and prove to him that he deserves a second chance at life and at love too. And while Christmas miracles are being handed out, maybe Toby will get his own dearest wish—to love and be loved by Mr. Miggles.

I beta read this book, but my rating has naught to do with that. I was enamored with Mr. Miggles (the book AND the character) from the get go.

Sean Miggles, town librarian, is a man entirely dedicated to his job. He loves books. And he loves to share books with others. He's a quiet, unassuming, kind-hearted man who dresses like a professor and keeps to himself.

Toby, laidback and loyal, is Mr. Miggles' assistant, his one and only employee. Mr. Miggles is just a few years older than Toby but so reserved, he seems much older. Toby adores his boss, but he can't imagine Mr. Miggles anywhere but the library.

Unfortunately, Toby's dating Justin, a selfish dude who takes advantage of Toby's giving nature and borrows money he never pays back. Mr. Miggles is not a fan of Justin. I wasn't either.

Mr. Miggles loves Christmas and starts decorating early (he's especially fond of tinsel). He has a dry sense of humor, and the banter between him and Toby is hilarious.

I liked how Toby’s thoughts about Mr. Miggles slowly progress from “Oh, he’s my old boss who’s kind of weird and awkward” to “He’s not that old, and he has a nice ass.”

At one point, Mr. Miggles becomes Sean.

The sexual tension under the surface, the way Sean initially rejects Toby’s flirtations, made me that much more invested in these MCs getting together.

Even though Toby narrates the story, I felt like I got to know Sean well by seeing him through Toby’s eyes. Granted, Toby isn't always the most reliable narrator (the way he chooses not to see what a douche Justin is, for example), but he's smart and self-aware, and his narrative voice rings true.

The secondary characters really stood out for me; I liked that each of the regular library patrons had a story.

When Sean attempts to help a little girl often abandoned for hours on end at the library by her abusive mother and the mother's fuckwat boyfriend, the unthinkable happens. Toby is protective of Sean, and he rallies the community to stand up for their Mr. Miggles, who becomes withdrawn and resigned.

This is such a sweet, romantic story. While there is some angst and sadness (Sean's backstory will break you a little), love totally wins. You'll cheer for Mr. Miggles, for his courageous heart, and for Toby, who works so hard to be the man Sean needs.

Includes: literary references that made me geek the fuck out, inspirational speeches (grab a tissue or two . . . or three), music (Because. It's Christmas.), best family ever (supportive families rock!), and sex in a library (you're welcome).

If you enjoy holiday romantic stories, then you don’t want to miss Eli Easton’s newest release. Once again, this author delivered an enjoyable, Christmas-y story that warmed my heart and sucked me in from the very beginning. 'Merry Christmas, Mr. Miggles' was a sweet and lovely story about family, community, dedication and last, but not least, love and while it wasn’t my favorite read by this author, I really enjoyed it.

Toby Kinkaid is the twenty-four years old junior librarian at the Sandy Lake Library. He loves books, his job and the role the town’s library has in Sandy Lake and he adores his boss, the head librarian, Mr. Miggles, even if, most of the time, he acts older than he actually is. Toby has a great, supportive family and he’s in a relationship with Justin, a guy who constantly tries to take advantage of him. Sean Miggles wears ties and suit pants every day, he’s dedicated to his job 100% and loves books as much as Toby. Mr. Miggles is always serious and often sad and Toby is so curious to find out why. He always believed his boss is a handsome man, but lately he can’t stop thinking about him. He knows he should forget about him, firstly because he is the boss and secondly because he’s convinced Sean is not interested in him.

When Mr. Miggles is accused of a crime he didn’t commit, he gives up without a fight. Toby believes in him so he tries to save him…in every possible way, showing him how to live and also love again.

“We were a thing now. A thing. I very much wanted to keep it. Possibly forever.”

Like any other books by this author, 'Merry Christmas, Mr. Miggles' was sweet and very low in angst and drama. To be honest, I would have liked the story line to be more engaging, but overall I found this Christmas-y story to be quite enjoyable. Both main characters were endearing and I liked them individually and together as a couple. Both Toby and Sean were well portrayed and I have to say I liked how different they were from each other. Sean was a fantastic character. I enjoyed his personality and I absolutely loved how loyal he was as the story unfolded. The way he fought to prove Sean’s innocence and the way he didn’t let the other man give up on everything warmed my heart. With a big heart, Toby was sweet, caring, considerate and so, so supportive. I totally loved him!

Sean’s character was pretty well developed considering the entire story is told from Toby’s point-of-view. Toby was a great narrator and surprise, surprise, I didn’t miss Sean’s POV at all. Mr. Miggles is a sad and quite man, but he’s also patient and considerate.

While the story is short-ish I didn’t feel the romance between the two protagonists was rushed, but I have to say I would have liked a little more. I wanted more scenes with them as a couple and of course more sexy times.

“I had everything I could possibly want, for this Christmas season and all the Christmases to come. After all: I had Sean. My Mr. Miggles.”

All in all, 'Merry Christmas, Mr. Miggles' was a fantastic, heartwarming, light-hearted holiday romance with an enjoyable story-line and two adorable main characters.

The more I thought about this book, the less I liked it, though the adorable ending alone bumps it up 1/2 a star.

Eli Easton is a sure thing for me, and her Christmas stories have been winners in the past. While this story was cute, and I liked Toby, I really didn't connect with Mr. Miggles. Toby was snarky and sweet, and I liked being inside his head. I also really like an age-gap romance, and so I was prepared to love this one.

For me, the worst part about this story was the romance. While I can see how Toby and Mr. Miggles admired one another and had affection for one another, they really didn't have that romance vibe. Maybe it was how formal Mr. Miggles was with Toby, but I just didn't feel that "umph" feeling like I was hoping to feel.

However, I did adore the library-lover elements of the story. I've loved books for my whole life, and being surrounded by books in a library always feels like coming home to me. The way the town rallied around the library in the story made me tear up a bit. The ending was classic movie wonderful, though it couldn't quite make up for the lack that romantic punch that I was anticipating.

This is a book for library-lovers who want a holiday-themed hurt/comfort story. While it wasn't quite Eli Easton-amazing, the bookish girl in me still enjoyed it.

Oh Mister Miggles!!

What a lovely Christmas story! If you ever feel sad and depressed, make sure to read this, it'll lighten up your world for sure!

Toby has been working as junior librarian at Sandy Lake library for the last two years. His boss, head librarian Mr Miggles is a decent guy, but stays mostly to himself. Only around Christmas does the guy lighten up and thrive in decorating the library and spreading Christmas cheer among the library regulars.

Toby doesn't have much time to think about the enigmatic Mr Miggles as his boyfriend Justin and his family keep him busy around Thanksgiving, but when a tragedy endangers the future of the town's library, Toby needs to find a way behind Mr Miggles' uptight facade to learn what makes the man tick - and why the new developments are threatening to make him fall when he should stand up and fight!

I absolutely adored both Toby, whose first person POV is telling the story (and boy do I *heart* him, to use Toby's youthful expressions) and Sean (who is the man behind the ever so friendly and helpful Mr Miggles). Sean's secret was like a beautifully wrapped present. I could hardly wait to unwrap it, although it's clear from the start that Sean's past is a dark one.

The story had its dark and sad moments, but in the end, it's a beautiful Christmas Tale that was my PERFECT start into the season!

In case it's important: The age gap is only about 10 years. As Toby puts it: 'Mr Miggles is *not* in his fifties!'

I highly recommend this! Read it and enjoy the 'Mr Darcy standing in the rain' moments you'll find here.

5 stars and a Christmas favorite!

Ok. So, I have mixed feelings about this book.
Actually, I have strong feelings that made my hands shake while reading. And quite frankly, ruined the book for me.
It's evident that Easton is not supportive of law enforcement. There is no other conclusion for the ridiculous police scene that occurs here. And while this wasn't my favorite story by her, I'm deeply saddened that such disregard was taken in putting that part of the story together.

So here's the thing...
Toby and Mr. Miggles run the small-town library together.
Toby is in a relationship but unhappy.
Mr. Miggles is not in a relationship and is unhappy.
The library is a central hub in town, but its budget has been on the chopping block recently.
An assortment of people use the library regularly and one mom takes advantage of the librarian's kindness and drops her 5-year-old daughter off for 'free daycare'.
One day the child shows up badly beaten and Mr. Miggles reports the child abuse. *hugs him*
Then one day, the police show up and detain Mr. Miggles, handcuff him and escort him out of the library for questioning.
And this is when my head almost blew off!
Because...that wouldn't happen.
Or more precisely, it shouldn't happen that way.
So why portray it that way?
Why paint the police in such an ugly manner?
What would happen is an entirely different situation.
Anytime a CSC (Criminal Sexual Conduct) case begins, a forensic interview would take place with the child. The police officer conducting the case would be present as well as the CPS caseworker.
I can't come up with any reason that the police would cuff and hold him for 72 hours on account of the mom accusing him without a shred of evidence.
Okay, yeah, he had a gun at the library. But the Chief's excuse of 'there was a rumor a weapon was on premise' was weak at best. The handgun must be registered, presumably to Mr. Miggles. It's not like it's library property. And even so, that is a half-assed attempt at explaining the scene.
When my husband was promoted to Detective 6 years ago, I discovered firsthand the ugly monsters in this world that are called child abusers. I had no idea how many of his cases would be CSC. I am often his sounding board when cases are so terrible they try and pull him under.
And I am appalled that the police officers were used in such a manner in this book.
Cops are not villains.
And I wish authors would remember police families are fragile these days.
If I wasn't such a fan of this author, this would be the last book I'd read.
But I can't deny how hurt and upset I was while reading.
*heavy sigh*
And yeah, the rest of the book was okay.

A Christmassy story!

It was a decent light book, if only a lacking one. It’s well written, and the moral is positive and warm. The characters are nice, the plot is nice, the development is nice.

Super nice.

Mr. Miggles is such a good person. Toby is also the best. Everybody in town is good and the bad guys are easy to find. Very black-and-white. If you are looking for a trouble-free love story, this is the one for you.

Unfortunately, it didn’t fill me with the myriad of emotions I was expecting.

Something was missing for me here. More passion, more love. More feelings coming out of this.

It’s very decaf, very dull. Very flat.

My reasons:

1. Toby already has a boyfriend. And surprise, suprise, he’s an asshole. So fitting.

2. The plot focuses too much on the major obstacle: a legal one.

3. That means there is not much to see in terms of romance. A few sex scenes, a few “I’ve always been in love with you”, a short epilogue to say, “Yes, it worked out in the end, so no worries”.

4. It’s extremely sappy. Both characters, yes, but more importantly, the people surrounding them. I mean, I know Christmas is a sappy time in general, but there is so much sugar I can take. And here, damn, here I OD’d.

So I’m sad to say this time Eli Easton wasn’t a win. Not bad. Just average. There were times when I had to do a conscious effort in order to pay attention to the story. It didn’t call me.

Not my cuppa.

4.5 Stars, rounded up because -- LIBRARY SEX!!!!

So, I have this thing, where I think that men who are intelligent and are readers are supremely hot. I can't help it, and I really don't want to, anyway. Reading is sexy, after all. And Merry Christmas, Mr. Miggles was exactly what I needed this week.

When I was growing up, I loved going to the library. The smell of books, the card catalog, the quiet. Though I never got quite as lucky in the stacks as a certain couple, I just loved everything about the library.

Toby Kincaid has been the junior librarian for Sandy Lake Library for a couple years now. He has a boyfriend, who, frankly, is a douche-nozzle, but we won't talk about him too much. Toby comes to his senses, anyway, and puts his attentions somewhere infinitely more worthy. Toby is kind and caring and when Mr. Miggles needs his help, Toby does not hesitate to step in.

Sean Miggles came back to Sandy Lake in 2010 and has been Head Librarian since then. He is a man with a damaged spirit. But he's got so much love inside him, and he quietly just makes the world a better place, so even though he appears a bit formal, you know he's just a big softie. Events of his past may have left him grieving, but he's not as broken as he thinks.

Both Toby and Sean grew up in Sandy Lake and after time away for college or life, they both made their way back home. Sandy Lake is family and friends and community, and though I sure don't know what that must be like in reality, I certainly like the fantasy.

Everyone needs to know they have people that care for them, that will stand by them or stand up for them. I think recent events have shown this to be very true. And this story is sweet, and happy and adorkable that I could not help but fall in love. Merry Christmas, Mr. Miggles is about community and family and having a place where you know people have your back.

Read this for the Christmas Spirit. Read it for the Library. Read it to fall in love again.

Re-read December 2020
I'm making it 3.5 stars instead of 4 this time.
I thought Sean was just a bit too stuffy and the whole police case frustrated me this time around.

---------------------------------

description

This was cute with a more serious undertone added to the mix. Just lovely.

Toby is the junior librarian in the small town he grew up in. He is very happy working with the head librarian Mr. Miggles.

Mr. Miggles is only about 10 years older than Toby’s own 24 years old, but because he is so proper, evenyone just calls him Mr. Miggles.

When someone accuses Mr. Miggles of something terrible, Toby knows he has to help Mr. Miggles, because for some reason Toby has been thinking of Mr. Miggles as Sean lately, instead of just his boss.

This was such a wonderful read. There were a few times where it felt a bit strange because of the boss/employee relationship they had. And because Toby called Sean Mr. Miggles at first, but I wasn't too bothered when the clothes came off....

We got some amazingly hot sexy times. In the library no less!

This was a great read with a nice Christmas feel.

Toby Kincaid is a junior librarian in his sleepy hometown of Sandy Lake, and has developed a wee bit of a crush on the head librarian, Mr. Miggles. As Thanksgiving is approaching, the library is already getting ready for Christmas, that special time of year when even the shadows under Mr. Miggles eyes seem to disappear. Toby knows there is more to the quiet and reserved librarian.
When Mr. Miggles is accused of a crime, Toby learns exactly how special Mr. Miggles really is. He gathers the troops to not only save the library, but the very special librarian who secretly brings joy to the people of Swan Lake all year long.
I loved the way the author portrayed Toby as such a sweet guy, and Mr. Miggles is so serious and acts much older than his 34 years. The contrast made the pursuit even sweeter.
The title of the book alone made me smile and I highly recommend the book for anyone looking for a sweet, holiday read

I meant to only read a couple of chapters of this at lunch...but quickly got sucked into this story and didn't stop until I was finished.

Gah! The feels in this!!! My heart is so full from this! I was enraged on Mr. Miggles' behalf. I wanted to strangle some of the characters of this story so badly, I was totally invested...

And there it is. Eli Easton got me again. Totally immersed and caring for these characters, which, to me, is the sign of a fantastic story.

So, yes, this will give you all the feels and get you into the Christmas spirit.

If you're looking for a short, but packed with emotion, holiday story that also has some very nice spicy times toward the end...look no further.

Recommended.

Merry Christmas, Mr. Miggles started really good for me. I snickered and giggled reading about Toby's crush on his boss, and how he tries to deny it (he has a boyfriend after all!).

Toby's one-liners are amusing and the dialogs are delightful. I loved Mr. Miggles right from the very start -- the quiet, kindhearted, Christmas loving head librarian (how can I not love a man who can quote Dalai Lama in a spur of moment?!).

It looks like it's going to be a perfect office (well, library) romance with a dash of holiday flair ... and a couple that has a decade age-gap between them. You can see the stars in my eyes.

Until ...

The part where the community members work together to save their town library and head librarian was touching. And the slow-burn romance worked for me.

But I can't dismiss the bitter taste in my mouth due to those I mentioned in spoiler. Which is why in the end, I can't say that I love this... sadly

This was pure holiday fluff, with all the much needed warm and fuzzy feels. Eli Easton nails Christmas stories. If you haven't read Blame it on the Mistletoe or Unwrapping Hank, you should!

Oh, Mr. Miggles...

Sean Miggles is the head librarian of The Sandy Lake Library. He's a good man and a gentle soul. Mr. Miggles likes Christmas decorations and he works hard to make the library a warm and festive place during the holidays. I loved his devotion to his work, his kindness, and his dancing Santas ties! When you have a problem, you go to Mr. Miggles; he'll go out of his way to help you.

But at the same time, there's an air of mystery surrounding him, a past he can't share. He never gets too close, and always keeps people at a distance. Especially his junor librarian, Toby. We don't get Mr. Miggles's POV in this book, but somehow this story is all about him.

Toby is the exact opposite of Sean. He's laid back, easygoing and approachable. In the beggining of this book, Toby sees Sean just as his boss. A boss he respects and admires. But slowly, the admiration becomes something much deeper, and despite Sean's reluctance, Toby will not give up. He will fight for his Mr.Miggles.

Their interactions were perfect! Sometimes snarky, sometimes awkward. Sometimes boss-employee talk, and then so much more. There is a lot of slow burn here, but when the two of them come together, it's pretty magical. Almost like poetry.

I LOVED the library and the imortant role it played, and I loved the the town's strong sense of community. When shit hits the fan, everyone is there for Mr. Miggles.

You definitely need to add this to your Christmas romance shelf. Recommended!

This was another fabulous read from Easton. The woman really knows how to deliver an M/M Christmas romance!

This story follows the growing relationship between two small town librarians, Mr. Miggles (head librarian) and Toby (junior librarian).

The two men have worked together for several years and get along quite well, sharing a passion for books and a great working relationship. But when a shocking accusation against Mr. Miggles results in a criminal investigation and the possibility of him being dismissed as head librarian, Toby finds himself suddenly faced with strong feelings for his boss which he's spent the past two years ignoring.

In reaction to his worry and heartache over Mr. Miggles situation, Toby finds himself impassioned to fight these false allegations head on (and the assholes leading the charge), so he rallies the tropes and enlists the help of several library loving townsfolk in order to help save dear Mr. Miggles from persecution.

There was so much to love about this story. The characters are wholly likeable, with Toby and Mr. Miggles sharing great chemistry that included plenty of literary supported banter and eventual sexy-times that made the awesomeness of libraries even more impressive (hot sex in the stacks, people!!).

As always, the story itself was beautifully written - no surprises there, this is Easton we're talking about. And I even have to give props to the cover design, because that font is truly divine and that cover model is positively delicious - double win!

*** At the library, they began getting ready for Christmas before Thanksgiving.
The Head Librarian, Mr. Sean Miggles, 34,

loved Christmas, had no family, so he lavished his gaiety on the town.

Toby is the Jr. Librarian, and at 24,

is forming his values and life goals along the way. He's dating Justin, but realizing he's using Toby, he quits that relationship.
His Mom is his confidant and tells him,
"...when you love someone, you want to do things for them. Little things and big things...." Sean began doing just that, and stunned Toby.

A derelict Mom began dropping her 5 yr. old daughter at the Library for hours at a time. But after weeks of this, when Sean notices the bruises, he reports it - the Mom and her new boyfriend accuse Mr. Miggles and he's questioned. Meanwhile someone on the board wants a ballpark, and to cut the Library money. This man jumps at the chance to taint Sean's reputation. This town is full of fun, diverse, loyal folks, all terrific characters, and it's an interesting tale,
plus we get some sexy anticipation, and hot loving. I loved it!

It's a marvelous Christmas tale that will capture your heart.

Eli Easton has a fabulous writing style, with great flow, that has us turning the pages with lovely hope!
Highly recommended. ENJOY !

I'm going to be the minority on this one.

I'm going to make this short. There's some good stuff here.

-Likable characters. Mr. Miggles and Toby were adorkable. They had this funny, snarky banter. The supporting cast was great as well.

-The plot piqued my interest. Romance with a little "whodunnit" on the side.

-And the message of the story was touching and sweet. It's about forgiveness, second chances, family, and friends.

But I couldn't connect with any of it. I found myself like an outsider looking in. Reading this book felt like I was just going through the motions- there was a disconnect. I wish I'd had the same connection other readers had with this book. All the elements were there- but it didn't all come together for me.

What didn't work for me?

-The pace felt slow.

and

-I wanted more on page interaction between Mr. Miggles and Toby. Once the crime took place, it felt like that completely took over the story.

I'm sad this one was a miss for me. 2.5 Stars.

What's your favorite Christmas movie...

Mine just happens to be Frank Capra's 'It's a Wonderful Life' starring Jimmy Stuart. It's based on the book 'The Greatest Gift' by Philip Van Doren Stern. I admit I've never read the book but Jimmy and I go back many, many Christmas's because I've watched this movie every year at least once during the holidays for most of my life and I'm over 50. So I can probably say with a relative amount of certainty that I've seen the movie 50+ times and I've also watched a number of remakes/variations and enjoyed them all.

What does this have to do with 'Merry Christmas, Mr. Miggles'? You might ask if you probably hadn't already figured it out. It's the story itself. 'Merry Christmas, Mr. Miggles' has the same wonderful underlying theme and while there are very definite differences there are also some similarities just enough to give me that same warm feeling that I get from 'It's a Wonderful Life'. For me this story was like a beautifully wrapped tribute to a traditional holiday classic. Mr. Miggles like George Bailey is a solid rock upon which his community depends. He goes out of his way to help people and enrich their lives never asking for anything in return and when trouble lands on his doorstep does he ask for help? Or any kind of payback? and the answer is no he doesn't just like George Bailey, Sean fails to see his value to a community that loves him and like George it's the people who care about him and whose lives he has touched who band together to give him support and make him realize how much he is truly loved and appreciated by his community.

There were other things that put me in mind of my favorite holiday classic as well, things like...
the fact that both George Bailey and Sean Miggles have tragedies in their past that have altered their lives from their chosen paths.

Both George and Sean are faced by a crisis in the present that has the ability to destroy them...personally and professionally.

With George we are shown the impact he's had on the people in his life by the angel Clarence who shows George how life in his town would have been had he never been born and with Sean we see it through Toby's eyes as he tries to help defend Sean and finds out about all the people that Sean has quietly been helping over the years.

Both men are loved by someone whose faith and belief in them is unwavering and unquestioning.

Both George and Sean have a powerful community member whose goals will be their undoing. For George it's the banker, Henry F. Potter for Sean...pfft, really? you thought I'd spoil the story and telly you? Sorry...no, you'll have to read the story to find out.

Ok so I could keep going with this list but I don't think I need to. I only did this to illustrate some of the similarities between this story and my favorite holiday movie. Does this bother me? Hell no, because for all the similarities that I may have seen I also saw a wonderfully well written story that contained it's own unique and original ideas. I loved this story and I can't say for sure because it's early days but it wouldn't surprise me if this ended up being one of, if not my favorite holiday story this year.

Whether the author realized how much this story reflected a holiday classic or not, I neither know nor care. What I do know is that I loved it from the first word to the last. In part it was because it reminded my of what for me is a much beloved story and it was also because of all the differences that I saw, differences that made this story into it's own unique and wonderful holiday story and there was just one other little thing...library sex...sweet and sexy and seriously hot!!! oh-my-god-start-the-cold-shower-library-sex for that alone this book should get 5 more stars.

So if you love holiday classics and authors who can put a unique and original spin on them, you'll want this on your holiday reading list...seriously, right now, add it, read it and if you don't love this story...maybe get a cardiogram done...just sayin'.

⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱*It's Christmas* ⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱

Not really a time to read a Christmas story BUT it's short so I decided to do it anyway. Though there was no depth, no deep connection between readers and characters, it was still a straight forward and a easy read. The book is about junior librarian Toby Kincaid (24) and his boss and head librarian, Sean Miggles (34/35?). Toby has worked at the library for two years with Sean as his boss. They've had a nice and good friendship. Though lately there's been some tension between them. Sexual tension. At least that's what Toby believe. That all gets put on hold when Sean gets arrested for something he didn't do and Sean accepts it with no fight; as he feels he might deserve it. Toby isn't about to let Sean give up. Specially not when there's a chance that there could be something between them...
Do you ever have that feeling something's wrong, but you don't know what it is? Like, your stomach and your body are all tense and tight and stressed, as if there's something important you should do, or some life-altering plot point is about to smack you upside the head, but your conscious mind has no freaking clue what it is?

Overall, the story was cute, I guess. However, the blurb kinds destroyed the excitement, with spoiling what would have been a decent twist. Since we already knew what would happen, all you had to do was wait for it to happen. There was nothing special about the characters, nor the story. It was simply and easy, not overall personal. I mostly felt on the outside, not really getting to know the characters on a personal level. I just needed something to read, and I chose this one, which I probably shouldn't because after the first five pages I already started to skim it. Which is not a good sign. But I finish it, so there's that. God, I'm so done with my bad luck in books. When am I gonna find a 5 stars book?!?
We were a thing now. A thing. I very much wanted to keep it. Possibly forever.

Quick basic facts:
Genre: - (A) Contemporary Romance (M/M)
Series: - Standalone.

3.5 Stars!

I admit that I could probably read about library romances all day, every day, and never grow tired of them. There's just something about a nerdy, more than likely, uptight librarian (in glasses no less) who can light up the sheets behind closed doors. Am I right?? You know I am.

Now Toby has been crushing hard on his boss for a long time, but Mr. Miggles is professional to the T, so much so, that crossing the line is something Toby has hardly considered. However, when a crisis comes to the fore threatening Mr. Miggles’s reputation and job, Toby must step up to help save the day, even though it seems Mr. Miggles has already given up the fight. Should feelings and desires be revealed in the meantime, then all the more better.

Having been written by Easton, this already garners several bonus points. Of course this is sweet, and of course this is sexy. Throw in a Christmas setting and I’m so there. I was not disappointed, and I know fans will surely feel the same!

Have you ever gotten near to the end of a book and peek at the pages ahead and think, 'Please, just one more page!' You finish and immediately go back and read over the last few pages, or paragraphs that you've bookmarked throughout. That is what I did here. Perhaps the greatest compliment that I, a lowly reader, can give to an author.

This love story set at Christmas time is beautiful and heartwarming, with a little heartbreak because bad things do happen to good people sometimes. It's how we move forward from the tough times, and learn, that shapes us as human beings.

I got all of that from reading this book, and more. Oh, I already knew of course, I've been down that road a time or two. It's nice to be reminded in a beautiful way, especially during the holiday season when sadness can sometimes overwhelm us. A lovely story that will bring a joyful tear to your eye.

For any naysayers that may think the issue of abuse wasn't properly handled, 'Bah humbug!' I deal with it nearly every day with juveniles in my work. Disheartening the likes of which you cannot image on some days. Was it handled properly in the format given? Yes. Could it have been fleshed out more? Yes. Would it have taken something away from the simplicity of the story? Yes. Did mom and the boyfriend go off without any retribution? Yes. Does it often happen in real life like that? Yes. Part of the reason why I read the books that I do these days, why we all do I would imagine.

Not enough stars in the heavens.

Highly recommended. Again and again, year after year. Comfort to all.

'God bless us, everyone!'

re-read audiobook - narration 4.5 stars

Dear CyberMonday Elf, thank you so much for this book!! I'm really looking forward to reading it!!

Another great story by Eli Easton that really lets you feel the Spirit of Christmas. I admit I even cried a little towards the end. Library-themed, slow-burn, age-gap, hurt-comfort, a bit of angst... What more could you want?!

Lovely holiday novel!

In some universe where this was a story instead of our real lives, the hidden protagonist of this tale would be the library itself, a secretly sentient mind that had somehow orchestrated everything in order to save her beloved librarian—and her not so shabby junior librarian—to give them both their deepest wish.

I liked that story. Maybe someday I'd write it.

3.5 stars rounded up. I'm probably in the minority here, but this just didn't do it for me. Toby, I liked. Snarky but not disrespectful, had a kind heart although he was a little too soft as far as the antics of his 'boyfriend' Justin were concerned . Mr Miggles? Well, he and I just didn't connect I'm afraid. The characters as a whole just didn't seem to be fleshed out fully enough, and yes I know it's an Xmas novella, but it can be done - read Jocelynn Drake's Walking on Thin Ice if you don't believe me. The frequent mentions of Mr Rochester from Jane Eyre only served to remind me how much I love that story, and am pretty iffy about this one. Sorry Eli.

I thoroughly enjoyed this nice cozy Christmas romance that got me in the mood for the holidays. There are some very important elements implemented into this story which work perfectly for me- the spirit of Christmas and its generosity to makes people happy ; an introvert and an extrovert character who complement each other; a library which is the living, breathing heart of a small town and which hidden mission is to save its 'beloved librarian—and its not so shabby junior librarian—to give them both their deepest wish'; the cover, OMG this stunning model could promote the famous high fashion houses or designers ;and last but not least all these wrapped up and masterly orchestrated by a great storyteller.

A note from Santa's Back-up Plan: 'I might have been peeking on your bookshelves and seen this and decided since I really enjoyed this one that you should be able to do the same...enjoy!'

Thanks my secret 'Mr. Miggles' I really did enjoy! I'd like to know who you are because ' when you love someone, you want to do things for them. Little things and big things.'

[3.25] i liked it at first, but then the big overarching conflict with false child sexual harassment accusation + poor investigative protocol adherence = a real doozy 🥴 lasts for almost the entire book too, so it was hard to get into the romance with such a dark cloud looming over them. i did love the library patrons who came in like a wrecking ball to save Mr. Miggles, that was really sweet.

more importantly though, did the child abusers really run away to California scot free or am i just interpreting that wrong? 🤔 if i wasn't mistaken....*screams*

anywho SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL LIBRARIES!!! ✌️

Well I guess I'm officially an Eli Easton fan. Who knew? I really, really liked this and Tristan Wright does a wonderful job narrating. Win. Win.

As per usual I didn't read the blurb, sold by the gorgeous cover, and I'm glad I knew nothing as I read/listened.

If you're looking for hot, sweaty, and sexy this isn't it. This is more of a quiet romance between two absolutely beta guys, but it's not like they're schlubs. Toby is young and beautiful like any 24 year-old and Mr. Miggles, in spite of the whole "older guy" rep, is only some 10 years older and keeps the tall trim fit of a former basketball player, but there is no macho posturing, they're not super buff or anything close. Like good librarians they're good at looking up stuff they don't know and, in Toby's case, asking for help when needed. Isn't that refreshing.

I really liked all of the community dynamics, the folks who use the library, and Toby's family. The Bad Thing that happens took me by surprise, as I was settled in for a gentle romance, and then I got pissed off, but not at the book. I felt that Mr. Miggles was too readily believed suspect & shamefully treated by the police not because of the crime he was accused of committing but because of who he is/was. A gay man. It made me sick and ragey too. I don't feel that those who rushed to believe the accusation, were apologetic or contrite enough towards Mr. Miggles, and the subject wasn't broached, rather it got folded in to a town board politics scheme, which ... meh. My last niggle is that Tristan Wright, though he gets everyone else perfect, IMO, overdoes, just a tad, Mr. Miggles' voice as an older person. He' really not that old, 34 maybe?

What kept my heart warm was the sweet and playful banter between Mr. Miggles and Toby, Toby's literary references and how much he loves his family and how certainly they love him. There's no angst about being gay, in spite of this being a sort of small town story. Yippee!!!

A sweet read - Toby works at the local library with his boss Mr Miggles. He clearly holds his boss in high esteem but starts to notice the " nice" things about him as people begin to mention his acts of kindness. Toby also realizes that the age gap is not so bad and slowly starts crushing on him - of course this realization also comes at the same time he finds out his boyfriend is a dick !
After an unfair incident, Toby rallies the community to show Mr Miggles how much they all love and value him. As Sean aka Mr Miggles, realizes that people do love him he lets go of his issues and allows others to help.
While Toby & Sean have a sweet thing going, there's no heat here. For me the message is more about acts of kindness
