Ever wonder what happened to the crew between the end of the last book and the epilogue?
Wonder no more.
In this holiday volume of the Between Life and Death series, there are no epic battles, no desperate search for the truth, no struggles to find love in a world of the dead. In Christmas Between Life and Death, the crew experiences the calm after the storm. With the smoke cleared and the battlefields left behind them, they now have to face a world that needs to be celebrated. They need to bring the traditions back.
It’s time to re-imagine Christmas.
NOTE: Christmas Between Life and Death is one long spoiler. If you haven’t read the series, don’t start here! Try reading Between Life and Death: The In-Betweener first.
Ann lives by the sea under the benevolent rule of her canine overlord and an incredibly foul-mouthed cat. A scientist and Navy officer by profession, the writing bug somehow got inside her during her travels. She's now stuck with it and can't stop writing.
She writes fully immersive works of science fiction and apocalyptic fiction. Ann is also a voracious reader, and adores a well-done audiobook. If she's not writing, then she's reading or listening.
I’m sure you’ve read books that left you wanting more. More about the characters, more about the book’s world – how did your favorite character fare as time passed? What direction did society take? Ann Christy’s fans had those questions and more at the end of her Between Life and Death series. She took pity on us and wrote this Christmas story in that world.
Know that you should not read this excellent story before reading the Between Life and Death trilogy and the Book of Sam. Seriously, don’t do it. This story is one big spoiler for the original series, starting with the names of the surviving characters. And there are elements in Christmas that are meaningless without knowledge of previous events. Read the other books first; I promise you won’t regret it. The whole series is one of my top five favorite reads in the dystopian genre.
The spoiler issue makes it tough to review this lovely novella. The time period covered is a hiatus for the characters, a time for some rest, and for recovery of more than one type. The events and the characters' feelings have a sense of closure, of leaving the past behind and looking toward the future with a bit of hope. They’re moving past being merely survivors and away from the emotional debris of a society that’s gone. In the process, they re-invent Christmas, the start of building new traditions for a new way of life.
It’s a very satisfying conclusion to the series, a wonderful prelude to the epilogue at the end of Between No More. I enjoyed it very much. If you’ve read the original series, don’t miss this wonderful story.
I read an advance copy of this book, and bought a copy today.
This is a sweet little treat for fans of the Between Life And Death series. It offers a peek back into the lives of the survivors and their Christmas celebrations.I love this series and it's really nice to revisit the lives of characters I care about. As a newsletter subscriber I received a copy of this book without any expectation of a review.
Must-have companion book! Just as awesome as the others in this series!
This was the coziest Zombie Christmas book, ever! ☺ These characters deserve some good times and I cried happy tears for them. There were certainly a couple of LOL moments... Black Friday, the diamond ring...This was a wonderful gift to the readers that have become so invested in the series! Thank you!!!
The In Between series is already a favorite and this little gem just added some sweet transitional detail. If you haven't read the series yet do not read this, it's one huge spoiler. Do pick up the series...well worth it in every way!
I read the original trilogy back in 2015 ... so it's been years, but it has remained as a fond memory. I really liked the series. I was browsing KindleUnlimited and happened to see this was a free offering, and as Thanksgiving was yesterday and I finished my book and needed to start something new, this Christmas themed bitty book taking me back to a favorite series seemed perfect. And it was.
Even after years, I did have a basic memory of some of the events and the characters ... I think I'll re-read this series at some point (it would be great if the audio was included in KU. As I read them myself the first time around, I'd love experiencing the audio edition ... but I'm so cheap!)
I loved the little touches at humor, even though this didn't get as down and dirty and nitty gritty as the past books, or zombie books in general. This stayed pretty light-hearted, a peek at the hope and good that can exist, even after devastation. I'm very glad I stumbled upon this little offering. I see the author has some other books (I liked HH's Wool series, so it would be interesting to have another peek at that world).
If you've read the other books in the series, hopefully in sequence but not really required, this is a good Christmas story for the Zombie apocalypse. If you havent, you can't understand the horrors that the characters survived to get to this point. You may like the story but the richness of the series, just can't be crammed into a 64 page novella. To her credit, she doesn't try to do that.
I would have given it a 5 star rating but for the lack of true standalone quality. The story and characters are still her superb writing. Her descriptive skills alone would probably send you directly to her other books. It's just that to truly appreciate this story, you'll probably want to read the series first.
She is one of my favorite writers and I really, really like everything of hers that I've had an opportunity to read.
I have really enjoyed this series of books, not just the 3 main books but the 3 origin stories and the epilogue Christmas book. Really sad it's ended, I'd love to (spoiler alert) read how they built the village up and the farms. How they came by the animals and other groups of people. 20 yrs is a long time and could have loads of great stories! I've read quite a few books by this can author and highly recommend her books. I look forward to reading any other books she writes!
This is another wonderful story from Ann Christy. It includes all our friends from the series and is NOT to be read before the other books! I love every book in this series! Thank you Ann!
This was a sweet Christmas story a few months after Between Life and Death, book 3 in the series. The danger of zombies around their warehouse has gone down a lot by either killing them or curing them and life is a bit more peaceful. So the group of survivors decide to have a month a Christmas celebrations! The best thing was the very special Christmas surprise Emily and her group had for the other suvivors!
This Christmas epilogue story is a must read if you loved the series!
