The Kitten and Friends series will help you teach your child friendship skills, manners and etiquette in a fun and engaging way. Kitten shows, through words and action, how to make a new friend by asking questions, sharing his own likes and dislikes, and trying new things. Kitten always treats his new friends with kindness and respect.
Each book ends with a "Moral of the Story" that reinforces the message of getting along with others who may look and live differently. Your child will learn something about each creature featured in a Kitten and Friends story. Like the fact that snakes can swim (Kitten & Snake) and Koi like to eat algae (Kitten & Koi).
Each Kitten and Friends story has a companion version in Spanish (Gatito y amigos) for a rich bilingual reading experience. Perfect for a child in a Spanish immersion program or living in a home where both English and Spanish are spoken. The companion Spanish version of Kitten & Squirrel is Gatito y Ardillo.
Aviva Gittle was born and raised on Long Island in New York. She earned a B.Sc. in General Studies at National University in La Jolla, CA. Now a grandmother, she writes and publishes children's books. Although Aviva has been owned by many cats through the years, today her only furry friend is an imaginary kitten named Kitten. He lives in Aviva's heart. Kitten is everything a friend should be: kind, patient, loving, understanding ... and fun!
I just love the illustrations in this book! Kitten is so beautiful and squirrel looks so real. I also love the moral of the story--we can be different and even be better at some things while others may be better at other things, but that doesn't mean we can't be friends. A great book that children will love while also bringing them a wonderful message about friendship. 5 stars
So cute and the perfect friendship with so much fun. Kitten has so many new friends but Squirrel is the most fun. And loved the art of them both cuddled uo together napping. 😊
A story about friendship perfect for the bilingual learner. The companion English book is available. It is not a word for word translation. The translator captures the tone and spirit of the original story.
What better animals to bring to a children’s book than the most adorable on the planet? The illustrations alone are wonderful and mesh with the story well. Aviva Gittle tells a story of fun and friendship. Both the kitten and squirrel which feature in ‘Kitten & Squirrel’ have an encounter which is almost human-like, enabling children to be able to easily connect with what is happening in the book. This is the type of story which would stir up a child’s imagination in such a way that they would be left with a smile.
I received this book via a Goodreads Giveaway! Thanks, Aviva!
Not only is this book autographed, but it is beautifully written and illustrated with a simple and straightforward message for children. I liked the moral of this story. Sometimes friends do things better than you, other times you do things better than your friends. But most of all, it's best when you do those things together. There was no jealousy and comparison in this book, just the pure love of friendship.
Overall, great story! I'll definitely read this to my kids someday (once I have some).
