Chris Pike grew up in the woodlands of central Texas and along the Texas Gulf Coast, fishing, hunting, hiking, camping, and dodging hurricanes and tropical storms. Chris has learned that the power of Mother Nature is daunting, from floods to category five hurricanes, to slippery ice or desert conditions. It pays to be prepared.

Currently living in Houston, Texas, Chris is married, has two grown daughters, one dog and unfortunately three overweight, demanding cats.

Chris is an avid supporter of the Second Amendment and has held a Texas concealed carry permit since 1998, with the Glock being the current gun of choice.

Based on hearsay Dillon Stockdale believes that his daughter died in the plane crash. Reluctantly, he and Holly Hudson along with his dog, Buster leave Louisiana and head back to Holly’s ranch in Hemphill, Texas. It has been over a week and the chances of even finding Cassie’s body are slim. The swamp claims everything that does not escape. Their trek back will be fraught with death and uncertainty. New friends and alliances will be made along the way. Once back on Holly’s ranch more trouble rears its head. Can Dillon and his group bring peace to the area or will they die trying?

Pike’s second novel in The EMP Survivor Series, Uncertain World: A Post Apocalyptic/Dystopian Survival Fiction Series, picks up within a few days of the first book. Holly’s character has been full of surprises. There’s more to her than the lovely lady attorney who’s a force to be reckoned with in a courtroom. Her ability to read witnesses provides her with a good judge of character.

Again, Pike has done her due diligence and the book is well edited and proofread. I can’t praise her enough for that. She tells a compelling story and her writing is maturing with each book. I still don’t like Buster having an inner voice, but that is a personal issue for me, nothing against Pike’s ability at all. The only complaint that I have about the storyline is that I think that Dillon would have noticed Amy’s necklace when he and Holly became intimate.

Good series. Read it!

Good story but a sometimes simplistic writing style. I'd read the next book in the series though.

Although it's not the most outstanding series of its genre, Pike's EMP Survivor is well-written, entertaining, realistic, and steady-paced. The focus remains on the two groups revolving around Dillon and his daughter. The survivors of the plane crash endure some interesting events as they make their way through the swamps and cities of Louisiana. Dillon and Holly fight their own battles as he struggles to keep hope alive that his daughter may have survived the crash. Their trails finally cross as the now escaped murderer, Cole Castle, has his own designs fall neatly into his lap, forcing the survivors to rush a plan to finally reunite their burgeoning family. Also, the introductions of two new main characters (which form book 3) was a great addition.

Addition: their time with the old man in the swamp proved to be a great chapter in the saga, particularly the events in town.

I enjoyed reading book 2 (Uncertain World) in the EMP Survivor series just as much as book 1. With everything that happens to Dillon in this story, it's hard to believe that he's still able to function after such a short period of time. Readers will learn the name of Holly & Cole's baby, and finally, get to witness the final confrontation between Cole and his followers vs. everybody else. New characters have joined the pack and the dog gets a couple of chapters of his own after getting lost. When I finished, I immediately purchased book 3 to see how the story continues. Great series so far.

The summary of this book describes it as a conclusion, however, this is not accurate as the series does continue past book 2.

In this installment, the bonds between Dillon and Holly as well as Cassy and Ryan continue to strengthen along two separate story lines. As expected, Cole becomes a bigger threat and is still eager to exact vengeance upon Dillon and Holly in spite of the devastation caused by the EMP.

This was great second addition to the series which sets up the third book well.

Lots of action and struggle

A lot happens in this book as different characters fight for survival and attempt to overcome the challenges of a country without electricity and electronics. There's a lot of character development and we meet new characters too. The plot depends a little too much on unlikely coincidences but if you can suspend your disbelief for a bit, there's even more to enjoy in this book than in the first one in the series.

Although this story sets up future books in this series, this storyline is fully concluded in this book. There are so many unlikely coincidences in this story that it requires a bit of suspension of disbelief, as does the anthropomorphism. Beyond that, it's fairly typical post-apocalyptic fiction with compelling characters which Kevin Pierce performs with his customary excellence.

Got to love Cowboy!

I believe Cowboy is the best... ok second best character in these novels. Buster rates best. But then all the characters are finely drawn, clear and natural. The quality isn’t just in the battles, the love, the grief. It’s one incredible journey right from the start. And oh boy, I cried more than once.

Like many other books, can read in a full day.

Enjoyed the characters. And the story. Like the author, I am from Texas also, but I'm from about 250 miles North of that area.

I'll read more when they come out.

Good read!!

I read a lot since I don't watch tv. I really enjoyed this book. Well written and didn't succumb to the over the top situations that so many authors of this genre fall into. Realistic! I'm on to book #3. Liking forward to it.

Just gets better and better...

This story kept getting more and more tense, building to a "holding your breath" climax. I am just now getting my breath back! Can't wait to start the next book.

Court to swamp

Uncertain world starts in the quart room and ends in the bayou! This book has it all! Father looking for a daughter, complicated, relationships, forming, danger, all around, and looking for a way to survive it all! This is a good read.

Dull

Instead of reading the first 50 pages to see if I liked the book, I read 96 pages to give it a chance.
To me this book is too scattered with the characters, and the base of a book I would enjoy!

Decent

Was a decent read. I preferred book one but the conclusion of the story was satisfying. There were a few more typos in this book. A good editor would have caught them.
