Runner is the cruel tale of a young girl trapped in the legal system.
Orphaned by the death of her parents, Runner is sent to live with her aunt and uncle. While there she becomes embroiled in a series of crimes, resulting in a conviction for murder. The police sergeant responsible for her arrest offers to marry her to keep her from going to prison for the rest of her life. Though he appears to be her knight in shining armor she soon discovers she made a big mistake. Prison would have been a happier choice.
I have lived in several states. Like most things, that brings pros and cons. It was interesting to see the people and landscapes of each state. I have since wondered about the lives and landscapes in other countries around the world. I finally took the trip of a lifetime to England, Ireland, and Scotland in 2015. I'm glad I went then, because the following year I was diagnosed with cancer. It was while I was undergoing chemo that, unable to sleep, I wrote RUNNER. Just as I was struggling to rid myself of my disease, RUNNER was struggling to escape, first her feelings of isolation and then law enforcement. She had been forced to choose between life imprisonment and marriage to her arresting officer. She chose marriage. RUNNER is the story of a young girl on the run. I am RUNNER, RUNNER is me. I mean, only made it to 27% so not going to rate, but when the hero of the book is a guy with a psychology tv show named “Dr. Bill,” that’s a hard pass for me.
Marie is missing a link between her core deep within her soul. Loss of loved ones, battered, betrayed, and beaten. Her fears were her worst enemies. You won't believe the life somebody has lived until you read this story! We take advantage of our day-to-day lives, but this young lady had very few choices. Heart Wrenching!
This is beyond intense reading. It will take a long time to process everything wrapped up in this story. Serious trigger warnings, but definitely worth reading twice.
