There are times in a man’s life when he has to pull up roots and get out of town for his own sanity. If only to grow up. Luka Shaw did just that.
He was nineteen and stupid when he left Haley Cove. He had never seen the world outside of his small hometown. The decision wasn’t an easy one because he left Skylar behind.
Luka is back now for good. He’s made his fortune. As he confronts Skylar at her ranch he finds she’s no longer the sweet girl he left behind but a beautiful twenty-seven-year-old woman with a lot of hostility directed at him, not that he can blame her.
Luka came to let her know that he never stopped loving her. There wasn’t a day that he didn’t think of her. She is the only reason that he returned to Haley Cove.
There is a child standing on the front porch calling Skylar, Momma. A child that looks amazingly like Luka. Someone has some explaining to do.
I'm a small town girl who in early 2000 moved to New Jersey. I had been writing for years. I have so many manuscripts I started and never finished I don't know what to do with them all. I happened to be stuck at the Philadelphia airport with an editor from a publishing house in New York. She read one of my first manuscripts and offered me advise on how to improve it. I lost touch with her with my career in IT taking over. In 2013 I lost my job in IT after ten years with the same company. Found another, lost it again in 2014 due to cutbacks. During this downtime I started writing again and decided to explore Self-Publishing. I love living out the lives of my characters on paper. I love reading other author's works as well. There is nothing like getting lost inside someone's fantasy just for a little while because life sure isn't easy. You can forget your troubles inside the pages of a book.
I have found with readers you either love it or hate it. To each his or her own. I happen to love this one. I always take to heart what reviewers write about my books. For instance when someone reviewed The Christmas Bride, she was right about what she had written. I had made some huge mistakes. I went back and corrected what I had done. I'm human. I've seen big publishers make them too. With this book, in the beginning Skylar is vulnerable and strong at the same time. She was hurt badly when Luka left her so she guarded her heart and built some mighty big walls around it. She didn't hide her daughter from anyone in her small town but she didn't broadcast who the father of her child was. The typical small town was always guessing whether Luka was the father and left her high and dry or if his brother, her best friend was Ava's father and that's the reason he left Skylar. The child played soccer and the whole family went and watched. Ava went to school. Skylar just didn't tell Luka because she had her pride and his family backed her up with lots of heartache and regret. He left town. He didn't come home in ten years, cutting all ties to anyone in town including his family except for the occasional phone call home. Yes,there is social media but not everyone splashes their business on it and not everyone creeps on each other's pages so it is plausible that Luka wouldn't have discovered his child in ten years through social media. I have friends who refuse to have a Facebook page and my mother needs to stay off Facebook. Lord help us. There are also security settings on social media pages that prohibit you from seeing too much on anyone's page so even if Skylar had these outlets where Luka might have seen his daughter her security settings would have prevented it. I'm techie you don't get by me so if Skylar had a Facebook page Luka still wouldn't have found out this way. LOL. I find it interesting how diverse the ratings are on this book. I happen to love Luka and Skylar. In the end Luka is the vulnerable one which I love about him. He's a big guy not afraid of showing his emotion.
