Something was missing here (for me) and (again, for me) this resulted in there being a lack of spark and connection between the two main characters.

I also didn't like the whole Sloane aspect. It wasn't cleaned up enough for my liking. And Heather. I needed more details on that. I felt like she was put there to create last minute drama and, as a result, it was too glossed over. I wanted to know the extent to which that relationship reached, if you know what I mean.

I just wasn't feeling it. Full-ER review later. Maybe.

Suffering a tragic loss, and after a car accident lands her in the hospital. Eve knows she needs to get some help. She is having nightmares and suffering panic attacks. She is slowly losing herself. After a brief meeting at the hospital with Dr. Preston Montgomery where he offers her his card, she just can't seem to get him out of her mind. Finally ready to take the steps necessary she contacts him.

Dr. Preston Montgomery knows it was stupid to offer Eve his card. She reminds him of a painful past, and of someone he failed to save. He is her DR. and her his patient. Soon enough sparks fly and boundaries are crossed. With both of them playing with fire someone is bound to get burned.

I actually don't know where to begin with my review of this book. I enjoyed it so completely. It is just beautifully written. So emotive in its style. You could almost taste these characters passion, and pain, and desperation.

This is what "I" would deem a slow burn type of romance book. It is over halfway through before we get any sexytime action, and even then it's more on the mildly descriptive side. I think those type of scenes is what was needed for this book and the more graphic erotica type would have seemed out of place.

description

Both characters for me were likable. I had a harder time warming up to Eve because I found her frustrating for the first half of the book. I just wanted her to pull herself out of her funk and get on with life. She comes into her own in the second half of the book, and a decision she makes near the end of the book, though perhaps frustrating for us readers, really shows how much as a character she has grown. Preston was lovely and frustrating, and sweet, but I wanted more from him as a character.

So why not 5 stars? A couple reasons. One, I wanted more background on Preston. I didn't feel like he was as developed as Eve. I wanted a little more insight into his relationship with Sloane. Maybe more of his interaction with his family. Just a BIT more depth. My other issue was right from the start I felt we were getting these tantalizing tidbits dropped like bread crumbs leading us to some BIG revelation. Unfortunately when it came I was underwhelmed. I don't know, perhaps I was reading too much into these little glimpses we would be given. Lastly, I would have liked a bit more time with this couple at the end. It wrapped up fairly quickly.

That said, those things were just minor issues and didn't stop me from completely loving this one. So two HUGE thumbs up from yours truly.

"I’m hollow. My pain is an open festering wound. Unbearable. I hear the words that are spoken but they have no meaning. They’re only words. They will never bring him back."

"The pain inside me roars out in a silent scream. Like ice spreading through my veins and numbing me to the outside world. Sucking me under, until all is gone."

 photo 561CAD53-BD67-4842-B2F2-0CFD969DCCB1_zpsluisplvj.gif

I wanted to start my review with a few quotes! If those words don't gravitate you to the book, I don't know what will! Those words are from the very first page and they sucked me right in! Ava's writing style and words are so poetic and beautiful they hypnotized me from the start! BEAUTIFUL!

"Sadness can break a person. It can make a home inside you, slowly building a wall around your soul."

"But my smile is an imposter. It lies. It says I’m okay. But I’m not. Every smile is a plea. Every smile is a prayer that they don’t see my pain."

Hooked, lined and sinkered!
Ava could write a whole book on watching paint dry and I would read the whole entire book because of her way with words!

"We are two pieces of a puzzle and eventually we will be put back together."

This is a forbidden romance between Dr. Preston Montgomery and his patient, Eve! I think Ava did a phenomenal job with the point of views! When we are in Eve's POV we get a glimpse of the side of the psychologist who forces himself to wear a mask of professionalism, where he successfully hides his true feelings from Eve. Then, she switches to his POV where we get to experience his inner turmoil that Eve doesn't get to see! I really liked this approach to the story! It really helped to mirror how things appear to Eve!

"I was warned in graduate school this could happen. That one day a patient could walk in and knock me on my ass. Make me rethink everything I believed about myself. But what I feel surpasses all that. What I feel threatens everything I know, because this isn’t some hunger I need to quench. You’ve embedded yourself in my soul. And without you I would cease to be.”

This is who I picture as Eve
 photo DCA0F2CC-1E71-4BBB-986F-B362C86A271D_zps9nuj0dqz.gif

Because....
“You’re really pretty. You should be his girlfriend,” she teases in her little squeaky voice and I wonder how old she is to have so much sass. “You look like Elsa. Are you Elsa?” I can’t help but stifle back a laugh. “No sweetie, I’m not.” “Oh.” She lets out a huff and turns around, no longer impressed by me. My lips part in a smile and I catch Dr. Montgomery suppressing his own smile as well."

Haha! That part was so funny! I was thinking of people to pick who look like Eve and then I read that part and I was like....OMG PERFECT! ❤️ Lol!

So the moral of this story is "Let it Go! Let it Go! Can't hold it back anymore!" Ava is a poetic genius!

If you like to read books where you feel like you should backtrack and reread those profound words or section a few times to really let them sink in.....then this ones for you! If you like a forbidden romance with an age gap....this ones for you! ❤️

This is a short review coming with the facts that I had my doubts about this book. I am a person who enjoys an emotionally damaged love story every so often, but somehow this book portrayed a vibe that did not approve to my interests...

Yes, something can be said that it was beautifully written, but written with the wrong ways to attract a reader to continue on. For my tastes, a story line that has an emotionally and psychological person damaged, there has to be something that persuades the reader to continue the story line and follow the story of the main characters. For this story, there was no spark, there was no persuasion as to what is to come and what can be said about the characters. The whole time I was thinking, "where the heck is the author leading these two characters?" She answered my question when I was 99% done with the book...

...

...

...

LIKE WHAT?! 99%!! I wanted it before so I could no more on the male's background story with his ex-partner! Would I recommend this book to someone? Maybe, I honestly don't know, but for my tastes this story line was just a no-no for me.

Mi Corazon....
Just finished reading Trans-fer-ence and I have to say the emotional rollercoaster that I just went through.... I'm going to need a therapist too.

Soo much heartbreak and the lies I don't know how Eve survived and I think that's why I loved her character because no matter what was thrown at her she would always make it through the tough situation. Preston is another story.... His character was the most put together in the beginning but you could see the cracks starting to unfold. So much emotions that he kept locked away had him breaking which was difficult because he was the strong one.

With all the ups and downs not knowing how the story was going to end my heart beating erratically at some points I was definitely experiencing all the emotions the characters were going through. It was so easy to fall into that world and I loved every moment. I only wish it didn't have to end. Thank you for such an amazing read!

I had very high expectations about this book. I really imagined it would touch my heart and have a deep impact on me. Having had my own therapy sessions in the past, I thought I could relate to the characters and love this book. But, alas, it didn’t happen. I couldn’t feel anything. I was just bored, I guess, and if it counts, that was the only thing close to feeling something.

Our heroine Eve is a girl suffering from panic attacks and night terrors. And the hero of our book is Preston, who is a therapist. Preston happens to be at the hospital when she is going through one of her attacks after a car accident and he helps her with some breathing techniques.

There is insta-lust and attraction between them. He gives her his card, saying she needs therapy but Eve is so embarrassed to talk about her panic attacks and night terrors that the idea of talking about them with such an attractive doctor scares her even more. So, she doesn’t call him back.

I’m desperate to figure out my shit, but this guy . . . No. He’s too gorgeous. I need to see someone older—much, much, older. Maybe a man in his seventies who wears tiny wire-rimmed glasses.

Does she go and find another doctor? No... She expects to magically be healed or she is TSTL.

Whatever, after like 50 pages, she is having another attack in the same hospital where her mother is treated this time and Preston happens to be there (again). He helps her with the attack (again). He asks if she is getting help and insists that she should.

“Do you still have my card?”
“Yes,” I squeak.
“Use it, Eve.”

And on page 65, they meet again, this time in his office – as therapist & patient.

So in the first %35 of the book, our hero appears in two short scenes, where he accidentally bumps into her having an attack and helps her.

I must say that, up until then, the book was awfully boring. And when she started the sessions, I hoped it would get more interesting. But it never did. Neither the sessions nor the reason that caused her panic attacks were like what I expected them to be. They also disappointed me.

Although the book is told by dual point of view, Eve’s chapters far outweigh Preston’s so we never have a deep understanding of Preston and his feelings other than he formed a connection between Eve and his dead ex. As for Eves feelings, we learn how attractive she finds him and that kind of stuff.

We are given glimpses of very few sessions and a few encounters outside the therapy sessions where they meet accidentally as they live nearby.

And suddenly, there is a kiss, and with it, the pull/push sessions between them begin. As Preston knows that it is against the ethics of therapy, he is the one who pulls back and Eve is so attracted to him that she wants him to sacrifice everything for her even though she doesn’t say it loudly but she is the one who pushes.

At one point after some intimacy, Preston refuses to continue as her therapist. He advises her to go and find someone else.

Preston mentions to her that what they feel could be transference & counter-transference between the patient and the therapist; but Eve refuses to see it that way.

After a while, Preston also gives in the temptation and they have a weekend get-away where they live their forbidden affair and there, they say those very powerful sentences to each other and I really couldn’t feel it at all.

How and when did they form these deep and rooted feelings, I have no idea. In the therapy sessions that are never given to us in good detail, or when?

“God,” he shouts... “You belong to me. This connection will never break. You will always be mine.”

“Do you love me?” he asks through heavy pants.
“Yes. I’m in love with you. It’s you . . . It’s always been you.”
He is everything. My air, my soul.

I read those beautifully-written sentences without feeling anything. I just didn't believe them. Normally, these sentences could have a deep impact in my heart in another situation but in their case, I am sorry but I just laughed as they sounded absurd...

After this weekend get-away, they say goodbye to each other because even though they are not patient/therapist any more, there is a two-year limit they have to wait to be together.

One day, it is Preston, who comes and pushes that they have to be together no matter what and this time it is Eve who pushes back as she magically grows some backbone and with the common sense she never had so far, she decides that she has to solve her problems first before they get back together. She leaves him and months pass. We learn why she has these attacks, and it is no big revelation, in my opinion. And she gets better with the help of another therapist and then, after a small cliché drama, they have their happy end...

It may be me, perhaps you will enjoy it, or it may be the book, perhaps it is really not good enough. But it wasn’t good enough for me, that is for sure.

This was my first read by this author and for sure it won’t be my last since I really enjoyed her storytelling. Ava Harrison delivered a fast-paced emotional tale that really surprised me in a good way, of course. 'Transference' was well written for the most part, with an interesting premise and it held me captive from the very beginning. If you are interested in reading a therapist/patient story, with a damaged heroine and a likeable hero then you might want to try this one.

“…my smile is an imposter. It lies. It says I’m okay. But I’m not. Every smile is a plea. Every smile is a prayer that they don’t see my pain."

Eve is a young woman who recently, after a tragic loss, started suffering from panic and anxiety attacks. She has nightmares that frighten her and even if she can’t fully remember them, she can’t shake the feeling that she’s missing something important. She’s damaged and lost, feeling under so much pressure caring for her mother who is a hypochondriac. When a car accident lands Eve in the hospital she meets Dr. Preston Montgomery, one of the hospital psychologist, who thinking that he can help her overcome the loss she recently suffered offer her his card.

Preston decided years ago to be a therapist to somehow heal himself. Over the years he came to love his profession, helping others always bringing him joy. He’s taken aback by Eve’s beauty and brokenness from the moment he meets her, reminding him of someone from his past. He knows that he should stay away from her, but he’s too intrigued by her not trying to know and help her.

“There was something in her eyes. Something I had seen before. A deep-rooted sadness I wanted—no, needed—to fix.”

Eve feels good in Preston’s company. He makes her feel safe, feeling that he truly wants to help her. She knows the lust she feels towards him is not good for either of them, but she can’t help it. As much as Preston tries to stay away from Eve he simply can’t. He wants to heal her, to protect her, to care for her, to love her, but sadly he’s her therapist and he can’t break the rules. But rules are meant to be broken, especially when some strong feelings are involved.

“How can something that feels so right be so wrong?”

I enjoyed this one! Overall it was well written, with an interesting premise and a forbidden aspect that surprisingly was done pretty well. As the story unfolds we get to see how badly both characters are struggling with their feelings for each other and their inner turmoil regarding the relationship between them. The story line was interesting enough, but I have to admit I would have wanted something more. Don’t get me wrong it was somehow intriguing, but personally I would have wanted more mystery or something.

Both Eve and Preston were interesting, engaging characters I liked from the very beginning. My heart broke for our heroine, but I wouldn’t have minded her past to be more tragic, her nightmares to be more detailed and not so vague. The author did a great job describing her panic and anxiety attacks. With every chapter, you can feel her sadness, her despair, how lonely and broken she is. Preston was a likeable character, but to be honest I wanted a little more from his character. He was sweet, caring, thoughtful and considerate and I liked him for this, but personally I wanted for him to handle differently his relationship with Eve.

The slow burn relationship between the two main characters was done pretty well. The way it progressed felt believable to me and nothing was rushed between them which I enjoyed. The connection/chemistry between them was palpable and I loved it and I liked all the sweet moments between them as the story unfolded.

As much as I liked the ending, I have to say it felt a little rushed. Everything progressed a little too fast for my liking, maybe because I wanted more time with these two characters together as a couple.

All in all, 'Transference' was a pretty great taboo/forbidden romance with a nice well developed plot, likeable characters and some sweet/emotional scenes.

I am still new reader to Ava Harrison, but after reading Through Her Eyes, I fell in love with the way she told a story. trans·fer·ence sort of had me with just the author name, ready to see if the feelings would still be there, but then I read the blurb. And let’s just be honest here... It was the “He’s my therapist.” that hooked me. I am a sucker for a romance that has a forbidden type love, so that alone would have sealed the deal for me on this one. Lucky for me, she delivered with an amazing story!

In this novel, Eve wakes up in the hospital after an accident that occurs shortly after the funeral of Richard, the man who has been her father figure for as long as she can remember. With a few fragmented memories of what caused the accident, Eve begins to realize that the trauma has set off a series of panic attacks. Enter Dr. Preston Montgomery.
Preston has his own mixed feelings about treating Eve, but he can’t seem to stay away. His own past trauma has led him to his field and although he sees strength in Eve, he can’t help but try to absolve his own guilt about his past, through her. But what happens when the sexual attraction and chemistry starts to blur the lines?

Although the spark is there instantly for both Eve and Preston, this sort of all heats up with a slow simmer before it comes to a boil. Letting the story develop at a steady pace without the sex and relationship rushing towards the finish line. So for those that want that instant connection, you get that – but this is a story of two very broken people, two people that have to heal before they can be whole again, so that is going to take some time. And I love that Ms. Harrison took her time. She let her characters build themselves up.
As a reader I am a sucker for twists that I can’t figure out. I don’t really mind figuring it out, but I really love the guessing game I play with myself while I read. I had some scenarios that I thought would play out, but I wasn’t sold 100% that I had nailed it all down yet. I also must say that I rarely, if ever, jump ahead to spoil it for myself. I HAD to do this with her prior release, I just couldn’t stop myself. So understand that this is an author who will make you crazy (in the best of ways), dying to know what is going to happen. With the romance genre, where a HEA is 99. % guaranteed, it is refreshing to read a book that can manage to keep you on the edge throughout the whole book.
I do think that there was a little bit missing in Preston’s side of things. I was expecting a bit more overall from his big reveal, but I think what I see when I look back on this story a few days later, is that this was Eve’s story. Preston played a role, and he had his part, but this was Eve’s journey. Overall though, this is a fantastic read, it hovers around a 4.5, but the fact that I started this at like 11 PM and could not put it down, leaving me up at nearly 3 AM (on a work night), makes me nudge this up to a 5. I can’t wait for what other gems I discover from this author!

Title: Transference
Author: Ava Harrison
Category: Romance, Drama
POV Dual
Characters: 4
Plot: 4
Scorching level: 4
HEA: Not telling

Ava Harrison always writes emotional books with complex characters and this book is no different.
Eve needs help but she refuses to see it. After experiencing a traumatic loss, she is left bereft, existing but not living. She goes through the motions but even though she denies it, she knows that she is slipping away.
An unexpected trip to the hospital is enough to change her life. Dr. Preston Montgomery offers a lifeline. Will she take it?
He is her psychologist, she is his patient. Lines get blurred and boundaries are pushed as attraction has the power to destroy them both. Can Eve recover from what drags her down? Can Preston resist falling for his patient? Read to find out!
I loved the premise of the story; the forbidden romance, the taste of the impossible. Eve is a complicated character and I will admit that it took me a while to warm up to her
I don't know why. Maybe because I wanted her to fix herself so badly! In the end, I can safely that I was able to relate to her.
Preston was...DREAMY. He was my favorite character and I fell in love with him. His inner battle and turmoil over doing the right thing touched me.
If you want something emotional but at the same time romantic, I highly recommend this book. Give it a chance.

Forbidden pleasure! Lust filled frustration! Clearly drawn lines that must not be crossed!

Here's the thing ...... lines have a way of becoming so blurred they start to disappear!

I am new to this author, but she delivered on my expectations. Engaging H and h. Engrossing storyline. Intense, anxiety filled emotions of wanting what you can't have. Was very well written and held my interest. The cover (my, oh my) and name of this book drew me in immediately.

So why 3.5 Stars! While Preston and Eve were engaging and likable, I kept waiting for that deep connection with them, that tug on my heart strings. I also needed/wanted more of Preston's POV, instead of the few page snippets here and there. Maybe it was just me, but the ending felt rushed and slightly underwhelming. But all in all, I was glad I took the time to read it and would most certainly recommend it.

trans·fer·ence: n. in psychotherapy and psychoanalysis, a client's feelings for a therapist. May be used to understand the origins of the client's emotional and psychological problems.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. The panic attacks the heroine suffers are very detailed and very true to what it feels like to actually have a panic attack. You truly feel the anxiety she feels right along with her as she in the throws of a panic attack. I was actually a huge fan of the heroine and routing for her the whole time.

The reason I gave it 4 stars and not 5 stars is that I really did not like the hero at all. He takes this VERY mentally unstable woman and develops this annoying push and pull relationship with her (ALL ON HIS END) in which one second he wants her, and then realizes he can't have her and breaks her heart. This literally happens 4 or 5 times throughout the book and to be honest, it almost made me not want to finish reading. That poor girl. She needed someone stable in her life and the hero was ANYTHING but that. Also, that man had no business being a psychiatrist...just saying...

The writing was something that I enjoyed. The author has a way with words and the book flowed very nicely as a result.

I'm so disappointed. After slogging through typos and scratching my head over editing issues where I didn't know who was talking and who was thinking what, I finally had to admit defeat when the scenes became cheesy and too far-fetched to be believable.

I had so looked forward to reading this book. Everything about it drew me in, from the cover to the title to the plot. It all seemed unique and ingenious.

I'm going to ramble a bit here.

Why does it make me so mad to start reading a book and find it unreadable? Logically it shouldn't affect my mood. There's always the next book. But it does. It literally pisses me off.

I've been reading for more years than I can count. Prior to the eBook trend, I could count on one hand the books I dnf'd in my life. Since switching to ebooks (and many indy authors) 2-3 years ago I bet I dnf close to a quarter of the books I try to read.

So...

Nothing I guess. I just felt like rambling. :-/

This is the second book by miss Harrison. Eve had a past trauma that she blocked from her mind. But she has difficulty controlling her panic attack. So she went to therapy. She met a hot therapist, Prenston.

Like always miss Harrison writing style is full of angst. Many emotional layer that need to be strip one by one. But on this book, i do not like Eve. Yes i know her trauma past makes her panicky. But she is too much.

She is selfish and everything must be about her. The angst that miss Harrison throws into the story, does not help at all. Even after Eve past revealed, she is still bitchy about not having Preston as her significant other.

Anyway, i still do enjoy the writing but aside from that, i do not find any connection with this book. Especially the character.

Own in Best of 2017.

Eve (h) suffers from panic attacks and nightmares since the death of the man who was like a father to her. Eve's father died when she was young and Robert was her dad's best friend. When Eve's father died, Robert took charge of Eve and her mother. Ever since her dad died, Eve's mother descended into almost pathological hypochondria. Eve has been taking care of her for many years. Preston (H) is Eve's therapist.

There are lots of twists and turns and I was never sure where the author meant this story to go. It meandered. The reveal and root of Eve's problems is so drawn out that when I finally got to the end, I thought that this book should have been a novella. Usually, I think most stories suffer from novella length. A novella would have allowed the author to stay on point.

Preston could've have been a good H - but the main focus was Eve. So, Preston's character suffered for lack of attention. Preston's background was not all roses either. There is quite a bit of back and forth, I shouldn't/we shouldn't/ we won't/ we'll risk it/ can't risk it - get another therapist. Lots of talk about transference/counter transference, whatever. It was exhausting. Toward the end, Eve has been working with another therapist and H/h haven't seen each other in months (almost a year.) Eve feels strong and wants to see Preston again - too see if he still loves her or for closure if he has moved on.

This was an ok read - I just lost interest through the detours and lack of focus. Others may really like it. But for me, 2.5 not rounded stars

"Butterflies fly in my stomach at the sight. That spark when our hands touched has rendered me useless - and apparently melted all the strength I have to keep my distance."

I have loved everything I have ever read by Ava Harrison. Her words flow off the pages with an emotional accuracy that sometimes leaves me in anguish. The way she captures the helplessness of depression and anxiety, and the symptoms that accompany it - the slow, slogging journey back to the land of the living after those spells - is devastating and empowering all at the same time. Devastating because I understand that journey all too well. Empowering because it fills you with a light, a hope, a knowledge that it does get better and you can overcome.

Then, when you add in a romance that gives you butterflies and weak knees, a love that is forbidden and uninvited - it only adds to the emotion, and by the end of Transference I was a wreck in all of the best ways. Traveling through this story felt so much like real life, where nothing - not love, not happiness - is guaranteed. It takes will, determination, and courage to attain it yourself. It can't be accomplished by a feel-good romance, even if that does help for a time. It has to be fought for, and on your own. One must be complete in one’s self, before they can give of themselves to another person.

That growth and determination seems to be a theme in Ms. Harrison’s books, and one that socks me in the feels every time I open the pages she's written. The strength that lies inside, that journey of self gives me inspiration and hope. It's a wonderful romance, but it's so much more than just that. It oozes sexiness and butterflies, but it's so much deeper. That's the beauty. It's more, always more. ~ George, 5 Stars

Wow... just wow... this book was fantastic. It's about the power memory and fear can hold on you and about a love that won't let anything stand in its way even if it means some blurry lines and bumpy roads.

Our H is hot as heck and love struck right away. Our h is broken and needs to learn how to heal herself.

I seriously loved this book. First book by this author and it won't the last. It was a solid story with great character build up. And I loved the love story. It wasn't all about sex( even though that was hot) it was so much more. Ugh so good

Trans.fer.ence by Ava Harrison
3.5 stars!!!

“Sometimes the most amazing moments are the ones we can’t talk about.”

Transference is a captivating story and centres around one of my favourite tropes…patient and therapist. A boundary that should never be crossed, a breach of trust and the code of conduct that therapists are strictly bound by, but what happens when a patient is “the one?”

“…my smile is an imposter. It lies. It says I’m okay. But I’m not. Every smile is a plea. Every smile is a prayer that they don’t see my pain.”

Eve is a woman that has suffered loss after loss and despite her best efforts, her life and in particular, her mental state begin to implode and all she can do is sit back and watch. The hardest thing to do is firstly admit you have a problem and despite knowing she is on a slippery path she doesn’t succumb until her panic attacks become debilitating and embarrassing. One such attack landed her in the hospital and it is here she first crosses paths with Preston.

“Every tear pours out with strangled breaths and a broken heart. The tears of a child who grew up too fast. The tears of an adult who lost too much.”

Preston is a psychologist; he has his own practice but he also does gratis work at the hospital. When he first sees Eve, he feels a connection and despite all the danger signals he still leaves her with his card should she need sessions when she was released. Preston was a man that had his own issues and none more so than a guilt complex that was totally unwarranted. It is this that keeps him anti-relationship so to feel something for a woman was far from a regular occurrence add into the mix a patient and it was unheard of.

“She lingers in my office like a sin. She’s my sin. Not my salvation. And I don’t give a damn.”

This was a slow burn and Ava Harrison really delivered on that feeling of anticipation and intensity. You were constantly kept in that state of “will they, won’t they” which was climactic in itself. The pages oozed chemistry and you felt that hard fight from both of them to keep those feelings and urges under wraps.

My only niggle with this one was that the ending seemed rushed to me, I wanted more of these two as a couple, after all that build up I just needed a few more chapters. Maybe it was because I had grown so attached to these I didn’t want to leave them, or maybe I’m just greedy but for me, a little more would have gone a long way.

I loved the way that Ava Harrison portrayed Eve’s issues, they were delivered with emotional reality and you couldn’t help but empathise and sympathise with Eve’s plight. Life delivers you curveballs, life is not always pretty but it is how you deal with it that makes you stronger. Eve needed to find herself in transference and the way this was depicted throughout only made you believe in what they had all the more.

“Say I’m enough. Sacrifice for me. Fight for me. Wait for me.”

Transference was a really good read, for those that love a taboo romance this one definitely ticks the boxes. I will definitely be checking out other titles by this author.

4.5 I Didn't See That Coming Stars

Eve and Preston were compelling.

There were parts of the story that I was less on board with than others, namely the way they handled being doctor and patient, but there were parts of this that really worked and drew me into the story in an impressive way.

The writing and the pacing were strong. Both characters stayed true to who they each were. Neither of them acted in ways that didn't seem real or authentic. As this was a forbidden relationship, there needs to be a balance with the time they spend together and the time they spend apart is balanced. I thought this was handled effectively and in a way that kept the reader's interest.

This is my first book by this author and I will definitely be interested in reading her other work.

Oh this story is a goodie. Ava Harrison did a phenomenal job creating such grief and heart ache.

Eve's life has not been easy. Always feeling she was never enough for anyone she loved, Eve has clinged to anyone she could, that showed her love. A love she needs to breath each day. A love she needs to feel to make it thru the day. But now, that love she has clinged to has died, leaving her completely broken and experiencing panic attacks. Her only hope to making it thru her grief is to seek help with a psychiatrist.

Preston knows he should keep his distance from Eve. The attraction he has to her is not good and goes against all the things that he must uphold as a psychiatrist. No matter how hard he tries to keep their relationship professional, their need for each other can't be fought off.

Together they each fight the other's demons from within but know that what they are experiencing is not healthy or safe. Not able to let the other go, they will experience a heartache so great that one must take the step to fix them self before they can truly be together.

Saying goodbye can be the hardest words to ever say.

"I'll love you until forever and a day."

One thing that is a guarantee when reading a book by Ava Harrison, the emotional feels that she gives you in her writing. This story is no exception.
Eve, Suffering from so much loss in her life...Everyone who she loves, she looses. Why start living your life and learning to love, when you know its not going to end well...
After a accident, Eve finally realizes that her life needs help. Time to find someone who can fix her.
Preston, Therapist/Volunteer... very loving, very understanding, very likable... After loosing someone dear to him, Preston takes a different route in his career path...becoming a Therapist to fix broken people.
This story is one that starts out as a sad story that you feel like Eve will never figure out her life and what is causing her to have all her problems....but the ending, gives hope and belief that a person can be 'fixed'.

No rating.

I made it to about 30% and I skimmed to get that far. I guess I don't like books that start off sad. I don't know what was really wrong with it. I just couldn't connect.

At a quick glance, the male model reminded me of Chris Pine.....so, one-click :). Duh.
Should I read a book solely based on the cover. IDK, but I do it all the time. In this case, the story wasn't awful, but it could have been better.

——————————
”trans·fer·ence: n. in psychotherapy and psychoanalysis, a client’s feelings for the therapist. May be used to understand the origins of the client’s emotional and psychological problems.”

My Thoughts: The following are my thoughts about this book:
General:
- Trigger warning - mental health issues
- Setting: New York

Characters:
- Preston (age: 34, psychologist):
- ”Helping people is what I was meant to do, but everything has changed. What became my passion is now, once again, a constant reminder of what I lost."
- The following words/phrases were used to describe Preston: likes helping people, compassionate, non judgmental, kind, observant, sharp, serious, deep

- Eve (age: 24, works in marketing): recently suffered a loss and suffers from anxiety and panic attacks (most likely depression too).
- The following words/phrases were used to describe Eve: sad, burned out, depleted, exhausted, fearful, depressed, anxious, grieving, tired, overwhelmed, broken, alone, strong, loyal

The story:
Something was missing. I’m going to leave it at that for now. Maybe the points below will expound on this better.
- The female character: I completely understand how someone acts when they are depressed, but something about her behavior just didn’t ring true for me. So, rather than empathize with her, I became annoyed because she seemed weak rather than sick.
- The male character: who was he??? So little of the story was told from his POV so I never really connected with him.
- If I can’t connect with one of the main characters, then it’s hard to connect with the couple. Yes, they had steamy scenes, but sex doesn’t mean an automatic connection. I felt like I didn’t know them as a couple. They were either having sex or scared about their feelings because of the taboo nature of their relationship. Therefore, I felt their relationship lacked the depth that I needed to connect with them and root for them.
- The “Sloane” aspect of the story had a ton of foreshadowing and little information once it was revealed. This fell flat for me.
- This was a slow burn, which I was ok with. However, their first lengthy interaction wasn’t really until 25% into the book. So the first quarter was not about building them as a couple. In fact, seeing as it was told mostly from Eve’s POV, it had a more depressing feel/tone.
- When Preston did share his POV, it was only a few short paragraphs. No more than a page. Why so little of him? If the main issue is his profession and ethics, his side of the story should have had more insight.
- What triggered the constant nightmares all of a sudden. Was it the concussion? That was confusing to me.
- I have a feeling I would have loved Preston if I would have known him better and been able to feel what he was going through. He had the potential to be a book boyfriend, but without his POV, it was a missed opportunity.

Overview:
- POV: mostly from Eve’s POV
- Tropes: taboo (doctor/patient), age gap (10 years)
- H likable? Yes
- h likable? I struggled a bit with her.
- h virgin? no
- First time they kiss: 47%
- First time they sleep together: 65%
- First time they say I Love You 89%
- steamy? Yes, but I skipped some of their bedroom scenes because I just didn’t really care about them as a couple.
- OW/OM drama? not sure. “Heather” appears out of nowhere acting a little possessive and “very” friendly with the good doctor. So did he sleep with Heather during his break with Eve? He said it was just a date, but the way she acted made it seem like they were more. 🤷‍♀️
- H/h cheat? see above 👆
- Time apart? yes. They spend 10 months apart
- Did I skip pages? yes
- Big secrets? There were a few things revealed toward the end
- Did I cry? no
- Did I laugh? no
- Cliffhanger? no
- HEA? yes
- Epilogue? 9 months later
- Recommend? it was so-so for me.

5 BEAUTIFUL AND RAW CROWNS

Transference is one of those rare books that not only provides the reader with a heart-wrenching romance that will become embedded in readers’ hearts but also a beautifully written story that truly shows the talent of Ava Harrison.

When the story begins, Eve is overcoming a plethora of traumas in her life that have left her mentally scarred, and she is reeling in all avenues of her life. She is struggling to survive and function in the normal world, and, as a result, seeks out help from a therapist. From the beginning the reader’s heart aches for Eve. The amount of loss she has been dealt, the feeling of abandonment with which she is struggling, the dreams she cannot understand serve to tear reader hearts up while making her a sympathetic character. Readers desperately want her to figure everything out, to get better, to become whole enough to love fully. With Eve, Ava Harrison has crafted a heroine readers can root for.

Preston is another character who is also still dealing with loss in his life, even if a significant amount of time has passed since then. It is clear throughout his internal dialogue that the event is still something that plagues him, that has shaped and molded that man he is today. What will ultimately endear the reader to his character is the fact that he is supportive and kind, and he sets a course of action and sticks to that plan. Preston is a man of integrity, of compassion, and an insatiable desire to fix, certainly a hero worth adoring.

The story of these two characters is wrought with turmoil and the struggle for emotional health, and this journey will grip readers from the beginning and will refuse to release them until the final pages. The way in which this author describes the feelings and emotions plaguing Eve makes the reader feel as though he/she is feeling the same. Readers will hurt with her and feel the helplessness she feels so many times throughout the book, but readers also get to experience her strength and growth of her character and make her journey, an incredibly rewarding experience. Just as with her use of literary elements to convey the struggles, she also uses these elements to convey the struggle to resist their forbidden romance. The draw, the resistance, the satisfaction and regret in the surrender is all so vividly described that the reader truly feels everything these characters feel. Their story becomes the readers story, causing them to live and breathe this raw and gripping tale. Ava Harrison has truly wrote a moving and compelling read.

One additional aspect of this novel that really sold the book is the authentic way she conveys the struggles of mental illnesses. It is the difficulties, the successes and setbacks, and the desire to be “normal” is dealt with in a way that screams authentic but also shows reverence to the battle. Through this story she shows not only the struggle, but the strength people have in order to fight every day to be better, whole. This exploration of struggles with mental illnesses also leads the readers to the idea that one must be whole on their own before they can enter into a real relationship, and this realization leads to one of the most heart-wrenching scenes, truly tearing up the heart of the reader. And although readers want to be angry, they can’t be as the desire for self-healing is right and true, and in the end is ultimately rewarding.

Ava Harrison, for her writing alone, has found a spot on my new author list. Her words are poetic, beautiful, gripping, and real, and I have fallen in love with her writing. Luckily for readers, the story is also one for the ages as it is more than just a romance. It is a look at the struggles of people with social issues, the struggle to resist emotions when the threaten to consume, and of course, the need to fight for love, self-love, real love, whole love. It is truly a raw and emotional story that readers must experience!

I've sat on this review now for the last few days, wondering how exactly to put all my thoughts and feelings into words, because there are many thoughts and feelings FLYING around me since I finished Trans•fer•ence. I feel as though I need to say so much, bleed all over the pages as I purge every emotion in this review, but you know what I'm going to go with "less is more" because I want you to experience this book, I want you to feel everything I did with no expectations.

What Ava has done with Trans•fer•ence is weave a tale that is so captivating, insightful, emotional and intelligent. The words that fuse together in this book are breathtaking. From start to finish Ava leads her reader, on an adventure through so much vulnerability and pain, strength and passion. Ava manages to perfectly balance the good with the bad. The happy with the sad. She makes even the downright heartbreaking, beautiful.

Eve and Preston are two beautifully broken souls, thrown together in a time of pain, confusion and devastation. Two souls that are both seeking, searching for answers. Together they form a raw, intense relationship that swept me off my feet.
While falling in love with Eve and Preston it's clear to see the underlying issues they both have, but in a twist of events Ava adds in suspense and angst, suspense that consumed me, angst that burnt at my very core and signed its way through my veins before blooming into intense passion and searing heat. I absolutely ADORED Eve and Preston. They are electric, raw, powerful and so, so beautiful.

Trans•fer•ence has well and truly blown my mind, left me breathless and engraved itself deep in my soul.
5 imperfectly perfect, heartbreaking stars.

Una storia matura e coinvolgente.

*ARC gentilmente offerta da Sassy Savvy Fabulous. Thank you!*

Ava Harrison era già presente nella mia WL con il suo Through Her Eyes — che devo assolutamente leggere — e quindi, quando ho visto la cover del suo nuovo romanzo e ho letto la trama, ho fatto i salti di gioia.

I ❤ FORBIDDEN ROMANCE

«Lo so».

I nostri cuori battono ancora allo stesso ritmo.

transfert
[tràn-sfert] n.m. invar.

1. In this story we find Eve and Preston a taboo and forbidden romance between a patient and her doctor.

Eve is a girl suffering from panic attacks after a very close person to her died. This triggers events that take her to the hospital where she meets Dr. Preston and he offers his card to help her.

This is where everything starts. And where you can't stop reading until you know how everything will end.
My anxiety had anxiety.

Borders you don't know if the characters are willing to cross. Or if in spite of all the obstacles will be together.

I admit that at first this book cost me a little and I even felt that I would not connect with the book but this changes by 20%. You get to the point that you can't stop and you can't put it down the kindle .

I have read almost every Ava Harrison book and let me tell you that I love as she writes. It is elegant and sophisticated. . And I will certainly continue to read HER.
I love that her characters are not perfect and make you want to embrace each defect.

Highly recommend.
